The Fridge / Can You Spot the Error?
« on: December 29, 2016, 04:14:59 PM »
I went to make a bowl of oatmeal this morning, and noticed two glaring errors on the box's little challenge. Naturally I could not let something that so blatantly flew in the face of all my childhood dinosaur research go unpunished. Is it kids'oatmeal? Yes. Am I reading way too far into this? Perhaps. But a mistake is a mistake nonetheless. See if you can spot 'em!

Edit: technically there's a third error, too!

LBT Fanfiction / One Star Above

Hello everyone. Tonight I wish to share with you a story that sprang up as a result of a challenge to myself to write a Land Before Time holiday story within two days. This short work is my finished product, and I proudly present it to you here. However, since I basically go over all of this fluff in the link anyway, here! Have a link!

And Merry Christmas from me! Or Happy Holidays, if you prefer!

Hey everyone, meet Panzer! She's an eight week old Siamese rescued from the notorious "Windy Zone" on highway 2 between North Dakota and Montana. She's quite healthy for a stray, and she's loving her new surroundings. I think she'll be very happy in her new home.

LBT Fanfiction / To Tread Upon Fields Afar (Updated)
« on: October 06, 2016, 08:43:52 AM »
Hey all! I figured I'd give posting my work on here another shot, but since the formats don't translate too nicely from Fanfiction.net to here, I'm going to try this a different way. Each post will consist of a linked chapter and a short blurb about that chapter. This way, the format is preserved without errors. I'll be starting with the first chapter later today, hopefully with a few more to follow. If this works out, I'll continue it!

Synopsis: brother and sister Fyn and Zaura, two Amargasaurs living near the Big Water journey into the Mysterious Beyond following an age-old trail left by their father- a trail that supposedly leads to the mythical Great Valley, where dinosaurs once lived in harmony. Their trek takes them through the very heart of the Beyond, where forces beyond their understanding have been at work for years. Together with Sol the lone Longclaw, left to fend for himself at an early age, and Rear the dishonored Fast Biter clinging onto the last shred of her honor, they must unravel the dark secrets plaguing the Beyond, and work to finish what their father started when he ventured to the Great Valley so many years ago.

Role Play Discussion / "Like Fire in the Night" signup/ideas thread
« on: October 03, 2016, 11:19:16 PM »
Hello everyone! I'm back! And while I was away, I've been developing a potentially hefty RP that could be quite a bit of fun. Allow me to explain.

Our adventure follows a story format, with all participants writing in the past tense (as if we were writing a book). The end goal, actually, is to come up with something publish-worthy that we can come back and look at later on down the road, smile, and say "yep. We did that. Nice."

Jokes aside, our story would primarily follow a family of Cryolophosaurs (Crest-teeth? I dunno, still working on that one) living somewhere in the northern hemisphere- a frozen, wintry wonderland, if you will, with room for other characters to be introduced later on down the road. Age-wise, I'd set the generation of kids in their early adolescent years- just old enough to be competent travelers, but young enough to be plenty naive still. The appearance of the "Night Rainbow," "Night Fire," "Sky Dazzle," or whatever they call the Northern Lights would hold some special significance to their species- a sign that their youngest are ready to take the "Great Journey" (I'll probably have a better name for that, too, but I'm working on it). Primarily, the first and main parts will be a family of young Cryos undergoing this journey, but as I said, other roles will come into play later on as they meet more creatures along the way. Right now, I've nailed down a few potential motivations for this "Great Journey," (which, since the Northern Lights are quite common, perhaps only would happen when they're at their brightest):

-the recognition of a new generation of Cryos by what they believe to be the spirits of their ancestors. Basically a coming of age ceremony.

-a migration, possibly to flee a disaster of some kind, or even a seasonal relocation

-a dreamlike message, promising some Great Valley-esque "promised land"

Obviously I'm open to more suggestions. If this sounds interesting to you, though, please go ahead and let me know below, and we can work on developing this into a full-fledged RP!

Role Play Discussion / The Story Circle discussion
« on: August 14, 2015, 10:47:55 PM »
TL;DR I want to start an RP in which our characters swap stories.

That said, you should totally read what I have to say. You know you wanna...  ;)

Greetings to all!

I'd like to open up a new RP with an... interesting twist: the Story Circle. The Story Circle centers around a group of dinosaurs (our own characters) as they swap stories. Allow me to explain:

The Lore
No one knows exactly when the Story Circle began, but  how the tradition began is a topic less shrouded in mystery. Dinosaurs in traveling herds who were required to stay up late and keep watch for Sharpteeth eventually came to realize their task was much easier when they grouped up to share the stories they'd been told as young ones. As herds became more and more diversified, so did the tales. Some dinosaurs would even stay up late with the sentries just to hear the stories they had to offer. Word spread, and the tradition passed to stationary herds as well. It wasn't long before Story Circles were commonplace. They were an excellent way to get to know fellow travelers, and learn about one another's heritage. To this day, the Story Circle remains an important part of Leaf Eater culture, and it is expected to continue on far into the future.

Our Role
Each participant represents one or more characters of their own creation. These characters have gathered for their own Story Circle, and each will have multiple chances to share their own stories. These can be anything from creation tales, to scary stories, and even myths and legends. This differs from a standard RP in that dialogue is minimal. Instead each post will be a small story introduced by our respective characters. For example- if I were to post it would look something like this:

Ex: Fyn regards the young ones that have gathered near the circle with admiration, briefly wondering if any plan on sharing their own stories before he speaks.

"Tonight's tale is The Story of the Five"

Long ago, [blah blah blah, five young dinosaurs, yaddah yaddah, tragedy, something something, Great Valley]

There would be no dialogue to interrupt this tale, and the whole thing would have to fit within one post. If there's interest, I could set this up so that one person posts a story each day or each week (depending on personal time constraints).

Why am I Doing This?
The Story Circle came to mind under the guise of creating a laid-back RP that isn't story-driven. It's a hangout of sorts where we can gather to share our stories, and in doing so, bring out our creative sides. The Land Before Time is a diverse universe- imagine if you will, how differently a Longneck and a Spiketail might see the world, or what little Threehorns might tell each other at night to scare themselves away from sleep. It's this cultural diversity within the series' dinosaurs that I want to capture in this RP, and we can get a chance to do that- and practice our own storytelling to boot- with this series of stories.

If you're interested in giving this a try, please let me know, and we can get started as soon as possible! I think this could be a lot of fun!

LBT Fanart / Getting Back into Art
« on: July 31, 2015, 03:19:09 AM »
It's no secret to most of my irl friends that what drew me away from The Land Before Time for a while was easily MLP:FiM, and while my time there may have shifted a few things around, like my writing ability and interest in dinosaurs, it also managed to teach me a few things I was able to bring back to this community- namely digital art. This picture should look familiar, since it's just a bigger version of my avatar. However it also represents a little demo of mine, a test of the waters, if you will, to see if I can fall back into LBT art, better than before. Any feedback would be much appreciated, and I apologize in advance if this pic comes out larger than intended. I have no idea how big it's going to be when I actually post this :confused

LBT Fanfiction / Looking for a Pre-Reader
« on: July 23, 2015, 11:58:30 AM »
Hello!

As a few of you know, I'm trying to get back into writing fics here, but while my writing does seem to be getting better as I go, I personally don't feel it's at the level it once was. With that in mind, would anyone mind helping me out as (even a part-time) pre-reader? I'd certainly appreciate it, and I can return the favor (though if my self-criticisms are any indication, I can be brutally honest at times). If anyone's interested, let me know!

LBT Fanfiction / To Tread Upon Fields Afar
« on: July 04, 2015, 03:56:00 PM »
Quick note, this is not a sequel, but rather a reimagining of my first original character, Fyn. As always, I'm open to having a proofreader if anyone's interested. This is set years after the movie series, in a secluded part of the Mysterious Beyond, and this fic only contains passing mentions of the show's characters. So if you're fine with a piece set in the universe but not featuring the main cast, then read on, dear reader, and let's begin our journey...

Prologue

"I'm sorry- there's no other way."

"The Valley exists! Others have seen it!"

"You are delirious- your poisoned words will not foul our herd."

"This land is death, don't you understand that?! The waves will come again- bigger next time! The Farwalkers said they've seen it before!"

"The Outsiders seek nothing more than to disrupt the peace we have he-"

"No! You lie! I will not have my children grow up in the shadow of the Big Water."

"You want to find this mythical Great Valley? Go ahead. But know this- you will never be welcome here again."

"When I return, we will see what weight your words hold over mine. They all know it's only a matter of time before the waves return. This Great Valley is not a myth. And if you can't see that, then you have truly given up."

"Chase your Valley, then. Chase it to the end of this land, as a mirage. I don't expect your return, Outcast."

"No, I suppose you don't. That's up to fate to decide."

And with those final words, the lone Sailneck turned to the vast, empty Drylands ahead of him, turning his back on his home for the last time.

LBT Fanfiction / Looking For Assistance!
« on: July 03, 2015, 08:16:47 PM »
Hey all!

So marking my return to the LBT community is my reimagining of an old character, Fyn the Amargasaurus (or "Sailneck" as they tend to call themselves). I'm working on a story detailing his new experiences, "To Tread Upon Fields Afar," and I'd like to extend a request to anyone interested in becoming a pre-reader! Now a few things to consider- this is a Land Before Time fic in universe only. Characters from the show may get a passing mention, but will largely be out of focus. Instead this takes place elsewhere. So if working with an OC isn't your thing, this probably isn't for you. However if you'd like to help a fellow writer get back on his feet after years of absence, give me a holler! The first four chapters are done, so I can and will provide them.

Hello again, everyone!

It's been a while- like YEARS by now- but I'm back! Lately I've rediscovered TLBT, and I'm back, mostly on the fiction side. I don't even know if anyone here's gonna remember me, but I'm glad to be back!

Random Role Play / Transformers: Prime- More than Meets the Eye
« on: December 08, 2012, 02:40:00 AM »
First post!

Nellis AFB, Nevada

Colonel Jules Ire ran his hand over the smooth skin of the sleek, stealthy aircraft sitting in front of him. The YF-29 Pegasus was the only fighter of it's kind in the world. The Colonel had had a hand in designing it, and seeing the finished aircraft in front of him was awe-inspiring. Though it would remain classified for a while, he hoped it wouldn't be long before the plane went into production.

"Sleep well, beautiful," he said to the plane, blowing it a kiss as he exited the hangar.

He closed the door, failing to notice as a blue light quickly scanned the aircraft. Stepping out of the shadows, a large robot crouched down behind the plane.

"I'll never understand humans," he chuckled. "They get so attached to things..." he looked at the plane and made a whistling sound. "Although I must say this is a pretty sleek craft. It'll do for a vehicle mode, at any rate."

When Colonel Ire returned to the hangar the following morning, he got the shock of his life. Sitting in front of him were two YF-29s, completely identical.

"That's it," he said, "from here on out, I'm getting more than four hours of sleep at night, because my current schedule's clearly messing with me."

Role Play Discussion / Transformers: Prime Roleplay
« on: November 09, 2012, 01:35:26 PM »
Since my little brother got interested in it, I decided to watch an episode of Transformers: Prime, and I ended up watching the whole first season over a weekend on Netflix. It rocks that much. When I finished, I was left with a feeling of "I've got to do something more with this." Then it hit me. ROLEPLAY TIME!

So, here's the deal. If anyone's interested in starting up an RP, post here with an OC or canon character you'd like to be. As far as a plot goes, I'll create one based on ideas others have, or if no one has ideas, I'll write one myself.

Anyway, if you're interested, post some details about your OC. Pictures are nice as well. Even if it's only the vehicle mode, it can help get the mental image down.

So to start, here's my OC.

Name: Kulbit (after the aerial combat maneuver)

Association: Autobot

Vehicle mode: YF-29 "Pegasus" (modified YF-23)

Backstory: Kulbit was a part of a peacekeeper force on Cybertron before the Autobot/Decepticon war broke out. His ability to fly proved useful to the Autobots, and he quickly sided with them. During the end of the war, he left Cybertron in pursuit of a Decepticon warship. His ship was damaged in the pursuit, forcing him to change course, crash-landing on a strange planet populated by humans: earth. No one has seen or heard from him since... until now.

The Fridge / Fanfic Editing
« on: September 19, 2012, 05:29:14 PM »
Hey! :idea

So, I was thinking it might be a neat idea to set up a section of this site for those who would like to look over chapters of others' fanfictions before submission- i.e. editors. For those who are interested in giving this a shot, either as an editor or someone who just wants a chapter or two proofread, let everyone know here!

I, for one, would like to announce my (semi) availability as an editor, though I don't have a ton of time on my hands.

Sound Off! / The Land Before Time OST
« on: August 20, 2012, 12:11:30 AM »
So...

I just went on to Amazon and bought the Original Soundtrack from the Land Before Time. That's right, it's the real deal. I didn't even know they made CDs back then!  :lol (jk). Anyway, it should be a real blast to listen, and I expect it'll be well worth the $50 I paid for it.

Role Play Discussion / Ace Combat: Frieben Rising Sign Up
« on: August 17, 2012, 03:26:19 AM »
I'm starting a new RP up entitled "Ace Combat: Frieben Rising." The story essentially takes place around the events affecting three countries in the AC universe: Frieben, the smallest but most economically powerful, Ardval, the largest, known for its strong military, and Remertia, a currently neutral country which lies between the others, and contains the Remertian Peace Embassy, where leaders of the three countries meet. Here's the briefing:

After Frieben is discovered to be a veritable treasure chest of natural resources, Ardval begins to mobilize troops on its borders. Both Frieben and Remertia suspect an imminent invasion, though Ardval's representatives deny this. Frieben finds itself under immense pressure to prepare a fighting force it does not have, as its military is weak. Under secrecy, Remertia begins deploying "peacekeeping" forces and supplying new weapons systems to strengthen Frieben's own military. Before long, Ardval finds out about Remertia's clandestine troop movements and makes a declaration: Remertia has two weeks to remove its forces from Frieben, or its actions will be considered as acts of war, and will be dealt with as such. The RP starts in the days leading up to Ardval's deadline. Tensions are high, weapons are readied-

And in all three nations, Air Forces are preparing for what they see as imminent war...

So, there's the story, now here's the deal: Each RP'er will designate a squadron and country of origin for their OCs. Squadrons can be as big or small as you wish. They also do not have to be affiliated with a government (i.e. Mercenaries). I would also recommend selecting specific aircraft for squadrons to operate.

This is not to say you have to be a pilot. Ground and naval forces are participating in the situation as well. Heck, even civilians can (and often do) play an important role in Ace Combat.

Most importantly, remember that as of now, there is no "wrong side" to choose. All nations have their own reasons for preparing for potential war. No one is more right than the other, and not everything is as it seems...

Now to select squadrons. When I feel we have enough players, the game will begin. Feel free to spread the word. The more, the merrier! Now choose your allegiances and prepare for battle!

In the tumult of battle, as warriors fight, who is truly noble? Is anyone right? Is anyone wrong? Only those courageous and pure of heart know the answer..
