The following three poems, which I have decided to post all at the same time, were poems that I had written in 8th grade as assignments for language arts class. I do not consider myself a good poem writer, so please excuse my possibly poor writing skills. Note that they have also been on my FanFiction account since last year.

This first poem is based off of the novel "That Was Then, This Is Now", a coming-of-age novel by S.E. Hinton, relating to the character M&M. I had written only the second, third, and the first half of the last stanza, while a partner wrote the rest.

An Ode to M&M

He’s scared
He’s sad
He’s worried
About his
Life all
Cause of
LSD

He had gone
To a hippie house
Where he decided
To just have fun
But then he regrets
What he had done

He had met a
Travel agent
ëfore he went
On LSD
He had seen
Spiders in his
Imagination
He saw blue,
Yellow, and red
Steaming at him

And he wanted
To have ten
Children which
The doctors
Say it’s a
Risk to
Have a child
Cause they
Could have
Mental problems
Or physical

LSD may
Ruin your life
It will take your
Memories away
But even worse
It kills your
Brain cells
So never do
LSD, it will
Ruin your
Life

Next comes a poem based off of the main character of the short story "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes, Charlie.

The Handicapped Person Who Became Smart

Years ago, there was a man named Charlie
He was a person who was
Mentally handicapped
But, with the help of Dr. Strauss
He became smart

He went into an operation
To become a genius
The operation was successful
Afterwards, he met a small mouse
By the name of Algernon

(Error: He had met Algernon before going into the operation.)

He was a smart mouse
Who could finish a maze
In 10 seconds
Then one day, unexpectedly,
Charlie, who had already became smart,
Beat Algernon in the race

Charlie quit his job
At a plastic box company
But then, as he was becoming smarter
Algernon decreased in intelligence
Charlie tried to keep his I.Q. of 200
Trying not to get it back to 68

Then he falls in love with
Miss Kinnian
They think that they are about
To start a beautiful relationship
But then, the starting relationship
Is suddenly interrupted

Algernon is found dead!
Charlie is absent-minded
And mentally handicapped again
He goes away from New York
And finds another place to live

There has never been a man
Like Charlie
Who had gone from
Mentally handicapped to smart
At such a late age

The final poem is based off of the novel "Across Five Aprils" by Irene Hunt. Pretty self-explanatory.

The War Is Done

The Crieghton family
The family who is destined
To fight for the war
The Civil War, that is
Jethro, the youngest, is
The one who can save the world

Gettysburg was tough
A long, two-day, bloody (as it seems) battle
The Union wins
But the war still goes on
Antietam is worse
The war that killed thousands
Seems like victory?
Nope! The war still goes on

Jethro is the person
Who supports President Lincoln
Writing letters to him
Supporting his ideas
The tragedy struck, however
When Lincoln was killed

Before this, the troops surrender
All the slave are freed
Jethro did his job
He even gets some time off
At least from working, that is
Studying is more important to him
Yes, my friends
The war is done
The slaves are finally freed

That is all. I hope you either enjoyed or was quickly bored with these poems.  :p I do not own the rights to any of the stories these poems are written about; they belong to their respectful owners.

Later!
