The Fridge / What if?
« on: January 05, 2018, 06:09:48 AM »
Well to be honest I don't think it would've mattered much for me. I'm in the PokÈmon and Digimon fandoms as it was at the time I was a young child when I had the VHS tapes of The Land Before Time films, so I don't think it would've made too much of a difference for me. That and considering the fact really the only thing I can imagine The Land Before Time would've impacted me in the long term was my affinity for dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, but aside from that, I was already long since hooked on them from the beginning of my childhood. I hate to be a downer saying I wouldn't have missed much without The Land Before Time, but when you consider the overall quality of the sequels in contrast to the original film, you can probably understand where I'm coming from in this regard.

1988 Theatrical Release / Is the earthquake in this one......
« on: October 30, 2017, 09:14:03 AM »
It's the same earthquake; by the time Bron finds where the nest originally was while the earthquake is happening, Littlefoot, his mother, and his grandparents had already began to travel to find the Great Valley, having long since abandoned the original nest in hopes of instead finding the Great Valley before things had gotten worse. Considering Bron wasn't mentioned at all in the original film, Bron's presence in the 10th movie would be a retcon of the original plot regarding Littlefoot's family.

In the original film, Littlefoot, his mother, and grandparents were the only survivors of that particular herd of longnecks; no mention of a father for Littlefoot is given, and the subject of this is never brought up as if Littlefoot's father was either dead or simply not important by that point in the original film. When Movie 10 happens, we learn that Bron does indeed exist and is indeed alive and thus his existence causes a bit of a retcon to the original film by making it so that he's the missing father of Littlefoot who was simply absent entirely from the events of the original film.

That's sadly the best way I can explain it I'm afraid.

Brain Food / Member Trivia

Nope. The correct answer is You Are Umasou. Why? Not only does it have the carnivores as the lead characters, but it also doesn't shy away from actively discussing the nature of how carnivores have to eat meat to survive, and when the main character is shown as an adult, he went from a sheltered, adopted baby eating berries to a fully fledged apex predator hunting prey to survive. It's an anime film I truly want to have see get more attention than it does by itself.

Unfortunately you are wrong with this one I'm afraid. Sometimes the most obvious choice here isn't exactly the correct one, you see. Try again.

Right then, this one is going to be a bit unorthodox.

My most favorite animated dinosaur movie of the below options is...

#1: The Land Before Time
#2: You Are Umasou
#3: Disney's Dinosaur

1988 Theatrical Release / Who killed Sharptooth?
« on: October 29, 2017, 05:07:24 PM »
Davy Jones pulling Sharptooth into his iconic locker? Could be, considering the size of the body of water they tried to drown him in kept constantly changing in size between a small puddle to a rather deep lake at odd times.

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Is Rhett a villain?
« on: October 29, 2017, 03:51:02 PM »
Well for one if they ever do anything based on the cast when they're older, I can imagine Rhett pulling a Ronno on Littlefoot and Ali, but as it currently stands with him being a kid, he's just innocent until proven guilty. Right now he's harmless and a bit of a jerk who doesn't know any better because he's a kid. Though to be fair his herd was more villainous with how they tried to flat out murder Chomper despite him when Rhett tattled on him, considering Chomper is just a child who could barely harm anybody despite being an infantile Tyrannosaurus rex, whom as we know is one of the more dangerous large theropods we know exist and thus killing one while they're young does make some sense, but not in the narrative of The Land Before Time in the case of Chomper in particular. Doc himself mentions the fact himself in his cameo episode, but even then he's relatively chill by the end of it on the matter.

The Party Room / What is the meaning of your username?
« on: October 29, 2017, 03:42:32 PM »
Mine is a play on the name "LadiesMan217" from the first live-action Transformers film. Instead of LadiesMan217, I decided to use a snow clone called "MightyFan217", which is based off the fact I'm a huge fan of a character named Mighty from the Bomberman Jetters anime based off of the Bomberman franchise. Mighty is Shirobon's older brother and has the look of a genuinely kindhearted person despite being a legitimately competent hero, considering his look makes him look like a tough character, but the fact he can look so legitimately gentle and caring is astounding considering how good of a person he truly is.

The Party Room / What is your avatar and why did you pick it?
« on: October 29, 2017, 03:24:57 PM »
Mine is from my main on an MMO called Mabinogi, in which my main for the game is a human character with the avatar called "Chronicler7". The image is a cropped version of a larger screenshot which showcases my primary battle and mount pet in the form of a 2-seater variety Thunder Dragon named "Darkdragora", but in the in-universe lore is now called "Stormcloud". You can see the full HD screen here.

Gamers Zone / My thoughts on Zelda - Breath of the Wild
« on: May 13, 2017, 02:52:08 PM »
Quote from: pokeplayer984,Apr 4 2017 on  01:32 AM
Well, despite the problem of breakable weapons, (That is NOT a good thing of the game!  Stop defending it, Zelda Fanbase!)
Alright I haven't played Breath of the Wild, but I feel I need to add my own two cents here. Let me bust out my favorite MMO of all time and one of my personal favorite open world type of games in the form of Nexon's Mabinogi to use an example for this. Mabinogi has a durability system much like Breath of the Wild, but how quickly you consume durability points on a weapon depends on what type of skills you're using with the weapon or equipment in question. The problem that every person claiming Breath of the Wild is at fault for having breakable weapons isn't that the weapons can break at all, but rather it's how exactly Link is USING these weapons in question that causes them to break so easily. Not only that, but often times when I expect a weapon or armor to be good for me in games like Skyrim, that game's kill camera feature can often render even the strongest armor you wear to be dead useless against a joke of an enemy such as a bandit chief, primarily because no matter how strong your own armor is, kill camera finishing blows will ignore every point of armor value you have and thus creates a sense of false difficulty despite having the best stuff.

Breath of the Wild, from what I've seen in the gameplay through online videos and Let's Plays, has weapons breaking very quickly regardless of durability because the videos I've been looking at feature the Silver Lynel enemy, and basically what I've been seeing in these videos is Link activating a form of bullet time every time he dodges an attack from the Silver Lynel and rapidly striking the Silver Lynel with multiple slashes in the span of probably less than a few seconds in real time. Due to the near superhuman speed he's hacking and slashing away at this enemy, whatever weapon he has will break incredibly easily because here's the problem most people are thinking in that weapons should be designed to be sturdy enough to deal damage and not break; that's NOT how a realistic weapon works. Increased stress on a real life weapon can either cause it to harm the wielder or at worst break in half if the applied stress on it causes it to degrade in a way it normally would. Not only that, but back to Mabinogi real quick, a very useful skill called Bash exists which can pretty much allow you to repeatedly attack and enemy and leave them completely vulnerable to spamming this skill against them til they drop dead. How does the game counterbalance this? Bash causes the durability of whatever weapon you're using to drop much faster than it would with any other skill.

Going back to another example I have, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, weapons do not have any durability to them... and that's exactly the problem. To train blacksmithing, you need to either pay a fee to a trainer for the skill, or craft completely brand new weapons, armor, or accessories. Why does the lack of a durability system in Skyrim ruin the game for me? You can't train the blacksmithing skill further by, say, repairing broken weapons you might have and then further refining them for increased damage output or even durability buffs. Not only that, but literally once you have all the perks, your entire set of gear will be nothing but Dragonscale Armor for Light Armor users, Daedric Armor for Heavy Armor users, and Dragonbone Weapons regardless of what kind of weapon you're ultimately using. Due to the lack of durability in Skyrim, you effectively become stagnant in progression once you have all three of those categories of stuff to use for yourself, and the game becomes less fun that way because once you have access to this specific gear, you'll pretty much never need to smith anything again unless you're wanting more Dragonbow Arrows for ammo. Combined with enchantments from the same game, even the most unique of equipment from the quest lines can be rendered useless compared to stuff you can make all on your own.

Not only that, but even though durability can be a problem in both Breath of the Wild and even worse in Mabinogi, both of these games have an immediate workaround in the form of a legendary weapon which, while having the same durability stats as other weapons in the game, can never truly break for good. I'm of course referring to Breath of the Wild's Master Sword and Mabinogi's Brionac. In Breath of the Wild, the Master Sword has a bonus to it in that not only will it deal double damage to demonic or evil entities, but it will never lose durability when in range of such entities as well, so using the Master Sword on the final boss basically gives you an infinite durability weapon. The Brionac in Mabinogi becomes useful with a previous set of skills you acquire before getting the Brionac itself; the Demigod skills associated with Neamhain, and with the one skill you get by default, Spear of Light, when wielding the Brionac becomes Spear of God, which increases the damage output of the skill to an absurd degree to which bosses in older dungeons in the game will almost guaranteed drop dead on impact of the skill, with the only exceptions being the bosses found in Peaca Dungeon, which is the hardest dungeon from the original region of the game. Even Cromm Cruaich, the final boss of Chapter 1 as a whole, will have a good 70%+ damage to his health upon impact with the skill merely once. The only true downside to the Brionac is primarily the fact to repair it, you need to spend Ability Points which you only normally get for certain quests, leveling up, or aging up once every Saturday at 12 PM PST up until Age 25+. The Brionac, much like the Master Sword in Breath of the Wild, will never truly break because unlike most weapons in Mabinogi, its maximum durability cannot be decreased.

What I'm trying to say here is that with games like Skyrim in which weapons have infinite durability regardless of type, the weapons eventually become stagnant and boring to use over and over again, and the fact most of all of the weapons are nearly interchangeable with gear you can craft yourself for superior special effects, even the game's most unique weapons and equipment will become outclassed by some of the stuff you can easily make yourself. There's ultimately no risk to using certain weapon types, and not only that, but the armor you craft can often be dead useless because often even with the strongest armor in the game, you can often get one-hit killed by bandit chiefs that have primitive weaponry compared to a late-game Dragonborn's armor and weapons. In Breath of the Wild and Mabinogi, there's an actual form of risk to the weapons you use to the point it makes you actively seek out trying other weapons or alternate means of taking out threats. Not only that, but both games also have the advantage of having a weapon which cannot be compared to any of the other weapons in the game, those being the Master Sword and Brionac respectively. Skyrim, despite being a highly acclaimed game, does not have the benefit of having a very distinct set of equipment and armor that cannot be compared to any other type of equipment you can simply make all on your own; pretty much any unique weapon you do somehow get is eventually outclassed by Dragonbone Weaponry you smith on your own.

I have both the PC and PS2 versions of the game. Often times I mod my PC copy to restrict myself to 3 dig sites just like what the PS2 version has, if merely because none of the campaigns in the whole game require you to have more than 3 dig sites at any given time. Often times when I make parks with just 3 dig sites used, I often use solely the Jurassic Period dig sites because of the fact A: the title Jurassic Park, and B: all of the Jurassic Period dig sites give you very popular animals to make use of.

Gamers Zone / PokÈmon Sun And Moon

So right now I got to the Battle Tree and I had to make a choice between getting a Lucarionite for future plans or getting Pinsirite. I chose the former because due to how easy the Battle Tree was for me that getting the BP I need for the Pinsirite would be no problem at all.

Xurkitree gets the job done too well to the point Tail Glow is hardly needed on this thing...

Either way I'm enjoying Sun and Moon so far, though I'm actually quite surprised with how overpowered Ash-Greninja is turning out to be so far. It will demolish anything that lacks bulk, priority, or has an ability like Sturdy or the Focus Sash item. I wish I was joking; prior to resetting some of its EVs and before getting better Pokemon, it served as my absolute ace in the Battle Tree.

Now then considering I've been personally wanting to get into contact with DarkHououmon over some things relating to DinoSquad since both of us have fanfics associated with the series that, by pure coincidence, ended up sharing ideas with each other. Most of this is just the fact the show itself had wasted potential that could've been expanded on among other things, and some of the specific wasted potential we both decided to make use of in our fanfics in the near exact same way.

But enough about that, let's get to the point; my fanfic DinoSquad RX which I've recently decided to continue work on after a lengthy delay from its original upload in February of this current year. With DinoSquad RX, I'm basically doing the same as Truth and Ideals when it came to the Pokemon anime; a complete AU/Reboot in my own image, but otherwise based primarily off of concepts already appearing in the original work.

I've considered both numerous times. However, when it came to actually animating things, I just couldn't get around to doing such a thing with how I currently drew things back then and also now.

Next up are two Dinosaur designs from my AU Fanfic; DinoSquad RX. These two you can probably guess who they are simply based off of the appearance and or genus they came from; Joanne Moynihan as Acheroraptor instead of Velociraptor, and then we have Max as an updated Tyrannosaurus rex. Pics of the other five are being worked on as we speak, but it is worth noting that Buzz (Pteranodon) is not actually part of the main cast in DinoSquad RX; he instead (possibly) gets to later appear as a shifter later down the road, but that requires dragging Pterosaur DNA specifically from Quetzalcoatlus instead of his original form. The others that don't have their standalone pic yet are already on the cover in my original post.

Anyways, now that those are out of the way, I have another side-project of mine I'm focusing on; say it with me...
"Mastodon!"
"Pterodactyl!"
"Triceratops!"
"Saber-Toothed Tiger!"
"Tyrannosaurus!"

General Land Before Time / The Cartoon Hero Will Review Journey of the Brave
« on: September 23, 2016, 09:38:16 AM »
Oh! This is going to be something to look forward to. Normally I don't watch the Cartoon Hero's stuff very often, mainly because I'm more focused on other reviewers, but I'll most certainly give his review of Journey of the Brave a watch once it is out.

...

THOUGH ADMITTEDLY, I still stand by some of my own opinions as to what exactly should've happened in the film for it to have been any actual good at all for the franchise's future. Regardless, hearing somebody else's thoughts on the film would most certainly help to mediate where exactly I stand on the film as a whole.

Silver Screen / Batman v Superman
« on: May 01, 2016, 08:48:46 AM »
So before treating myself to watching The Force Awakens, I had to force myself to sit through Batman V Superman to see if there was anything remotely good about it and to finally say my thoughts on the movie in full.

I still stick to my word that Batman V Superman was made too soon. THAT, and the movie is too much of dark and gritty to be either entertaining or have a cast of relatable characters. Supes and Bats were too dour in compared to their usual selves, Wonder Woman was shoehorned in, Doomsday was wasted potential, and the music used throughout much of the movie did nothing but give bleak undertones and overtones to the point the final fight was boring because A: the music made it look like an impossible fight to win so as to give up, and B: neither of the three Superheroes are anybody I can truly relate to in contrast to their older incarnations from animated films or TV series.

How bad do I think it is overall? DIDYOUEVENCARETOTRY?!?!/10

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / What makes a better final episode?
« on: April 22, 2016, 04:44:10 PM »

Again, TTEOTS wins out because the last episode of a Season or any show in general should always have a rather distinct feel to it. As in, feel like something different was done compared to prior episodes, or have something major accomplished by the cast. Or, in some cases, a much tougher obstacle/enemy crosses paths with the protagonists in the Finale of a Season/Series and serves to prove how far the protagonists had advanced based on how they end up dealing with this threat of sorts.

TGEA didn't feel like it accomplished anything major; it just felt like an ordinary episode with a few characters from the movies returning to guest star in the episode. We've had plenty of episodes like those already, so it was familiar territory. TTEOTS, on the other hand, is the ONLY time we get to see Spike having actual "dialogue" because of the fact, as the episode title suggests, we see things through his viewpoint and thus his thinking gets translated into dialogue outright. As a result, the episode felt like it accomplished something major; by giving Spike an actual major speaking role outside of a single word only moment of dialogue like in Movie 4 or Movie 8.
It still doesn't really qualify for what you mention makes a season finale.

I don't get why people don't like TGGE and don't like it as the season finale. Am I really alone in this boat, here?  :neutral
I literally just said in that post why it qualifies for a better season finale; Spike, a character who normally never has a major speaking role, actually has his first and thus far only major speaking role in that particular episode. It's something that normally you would only expect a finale of sorts to do; something big that hasn't been done before in the prior episodes.

Let me give a similar example from another two season series. In DinoSquad, Ms. Moynihan is revealed in the first episode to be a Velociraptor/Human shape-shifter much like Victory Veloci himself is. However, throughout the series, we never see Moynihan transform at all, even though she's had a Raptor form designed for the show proper which was used in a flashback for her and Victor's origins.

In the final episode of Season 2, and thus the final episode altogether since the show has ended, the five members of the DinoSquad have all been subdued and are unable to escape Veloci's henchmen due to an ambush. Moynihan, arriving on the scene and realizing this, finally transforms much to her chagrin since she doesn't like the idea of having to use her Raptor form anymore. As a result, we finally see her in the present day as a Dinosaur, and we have the first direct conversation between her and Veloci detailing a bit more on their past with each other. She's captured, yes, but she succeeds in freeing the other five so that they can free her by the end of the episode.

So, in short, both episodes did something with one member of the main cast that, up until that episode, had never been seen before prior in the context of the overall series they're from.

Got it. Ya, because of how minimal comments/replies I get on some of my works more so than others I have made which are long since outdated in comparison, I don't have very much high faith in my current artwork because unlike my much older stuff, my newer stuff is generally ignored much of the time.
