Title: CONFIRMED: Xbox one, used games fee, system DRM
Post by: Campion1 on May 21, 2013, 10:52:44 PM
ALWAYS ONLINE SYSTEM DRM:
http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-in...lay-o-509164109 (http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-internet-connection-cant-play-o-509164109)

USED GAMES FEE:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/40791...e-for-xbox-one/ (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/407912/microsoft-confirms-pre-owned-fee-for-xbox-one/)

Thought I would post these and confirm that these are no longer rumors.

The Microsoft event held today was the worst reveal for a "Game console" I've ever seen. I will be transitioning to PC later this year.

Well, might as well purchase PS4 as my second console for the new generation of games.

I'll at least wait for something that interests me before getting it, though.

XBox1 has lost me as a customer, though. :(

Oh well.  I wasn't planning on buying the stupid thing anyway.  I mean, what can this piece of junk do that the old one can't, besides eat up more money?  Microsoft can suck it.

The graphics look good, the rest is shit. I wasn't an XBOX person anyway, so yeah... I'm out :p

So does that mean if you don't have an internet connection, you can't play the console at all? Why would they even do that?

Looks like a fancy VCR to me. Microsoft described it as "sleek and modern."
Really, I still can't make sense of all the information regarding the online functionality. One employee says you have to have it on once a day, while another says that is just a "scenario." What does that mean?
The fee issue is also confusing. I still don't understand how it all actually works and Microsoft isn't making it easy to understand.
The name also leaves a lot to be desired. It feels unimaginative, but I can't hold that against them. "PS4" isn't exactly ingenious either.

I'm just glad there are more options then just going with one of the large game consoles.  Besides PC there is also android, the apple one, and Ouya, not sure if it is out yet or not.  I also read in a magazine about the Gamestick and Nvidia Shield game consoles, that should be out this year.  More options are good.

*joke*Microsoft, be honest, are you trying to make this the WORST console ever?  It sure seems like it to me. */joke*

Why is Microsoft calling it the X Box One?

Because you take one look at it and go straight for the PS4.

Specifically, it's to keep more control over the games they sell and makes it easier to tell if the game you are playing is used or is a pirated copy, if I remember right.

PS4 doesn't have reverse compatibility.  I'm not giving up my PS2 games.  I have no plans of buying a new game system.  Once they stop making 360 games, I'm gone with buying games forever.

Sony is working on a workaround for that through cloud-based gaming and/or emulation. Not sure if they will actually put it on the final console or not. But at least they are working on some way to keep the ability to play previous PS games. That's more than I can say for Microsoft.

Well yeah if your sole goal is to pirate games, it's more difficult now (though NOT impossible).  But it's difficult to pirate console games too.  Steam makes it easy to sell your "digital" games.  Just give the new owner your account details.  Make a new account for every game.  Most gamers do this already.  And pirating the stuff is easy as pie if you know what you're doing.

I have my own code of conduct when it comes to piracy.  I'll gladly pirate something I never would have purchased in the first place.  But I will purchase games even at their ridiculous prices so I don't pirate those.  I don't have a lot of experience in pirating games from Steam and such, but I know it can be done.

You know, looking at all of these things that Microsoft have put into the Xbox1, I can't help but feel that there's some sort of law that they are breaking with this thing.

However, I'm still not sure on how well the "first sales rights" argument against this would hold up in court.

This thing just feels not only wrong, but illegal.

The only ones I can see getting this are the usual people who buy something just to resale it on eBay for higher profit.

Aside from that, I don't see a market on this.

I don't know what Microsoft is smoking, but I want some of it!

Yeah they need to stop making video games period. They need to stick to making software that is what they're good for. XBOX isn't really a good system I own one and I don't even use it. I haste the XBOX360 now they're making this abomination now. I'm not gonna gonna waste money on this either. I like Microsoft and all but there consoles just suck and I see not point in them making this XBOX One. I hope it bombs in sales so I laugh at all the people that work for the company and shove there stupidity down there throats.

You guys want to know their excuse for the "always online" DRM?  It's to "check for pirated copies".

However, didn't Nintendo do that with their NES?  That was BEFORE the Internet.  They did it with nothing more than a secret code installed into a chip.  It took 4 years to crack!

Simply, you don't need this "always online" DRM to prevent piracy.  It's quite unnecessary in the end. :)

I've known that the "always online" thing was their attempt at prevent piracy for some time now. I forget where I heard it from, though.

No. This is to increase their revenue by monitoring your Xbox one library. This is Microsoft being straight up manipulative of your use of their system after your purchase.

Personally I love XBOX/XBOX360.  The PS3 is okay I guess and the Wii is awful (though the Wii U is worse).  But it looks like it will be PS4 for me this round.  I won't support this crap.

I love my Wii and I support Nintendo fully. I don't think the Wii is awful Sony sucks a lot. I hate sony and there products =. They're made cheaply and poorly and they break easier. I've always hated Sony and the god awful pieces of crap. But to each there own. The Wii-U yes that is such a stupid thing. I don't see the need or purpose to have two screens to look at. I found that confusing and annoying. The controller is big and clunky and a pain to use. I will always support Nintendo tho. I never supported Microsoft's Game console's at all. If people like that that's cool I never loved them. They have very bad games. With the acception of Halo and a couple of others.

I don't hate Sony. I don't think it sucks. In fact, I happen to enjoy a lot of their games. They don't seem cheaply made to me; all my Sony stuff has lasted a long time. In fact, only one Sony console has ever failed on me, and that was the PS2. It finally died. But my PS1, despite being the filthiest console you'd ever see, it still works. And despite PS3 being vulnerable to the yellow light of death (supposedly) I never once suffered that.

Nintendo is not the only successful video game company. And it certainly isn't the "god of video games". None of the video gaming companies are superior to another. Besides, if Sony were as bad as you say it is, Petrie85, they would have went out of business years ago. And yet they are still around. Obviously they are doing something right.

Just wow...

I'm really happy this is the year I get a gaming PC. I'm sure Sony console will be "alright" but the only reason there doing well is because the Xbox One is the worst thing to happen in gaming ever. Not trying to say anything bad about Sony but it doesn't mean Sony won't do something bad as well like putting adverts before you start a game or what ever.

Looking bad my PS3 is still working and so is my PS2 and PS1 which is kind of wired because use to play five or more hours a day gaming.

Microsoft has suddenly removed all DRM usage for their new console

Even with all of this removed, it's still too expensive.  I will at least wait for a price drop and a game worth getting.

I still believe Sony won't betray the consumer.  If you look at their history, they have yet to do something that really qualifies as "ultimate betrayal" in the end. (And no, the PSN hacking fiasco doesn't really count as much of that was beyond their control.)

If Sony has a good launch title, they can expect my money right when PS4 comes out.

Hey now, lets not point fingers at those interested in a Xbox1 here.
Quote
They SAY it is removed, but is it really removed when we place this device into our homes?
The Xbox1 will require a day one patch to operate (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/19/xbox-one-will-require-day-one-update), but you'll never have to connect it again after that point. Compare this to the PS4 that requires no patches to work right out of the box.
