Title: Free Let's Play Software
Post by: Phantom on August 23, 2013, 03:35:25 PM
I'll keep this brief. I need a free software to record video games, as well as microphone input. I've tried Camstudio, and it doesn't work for me.

Fraps has one (but that has a huge watermark all over it), not sure if there's a microphone option (I always record that seperately).

Camtasia, you can get a free trial of that, although I don't really like it.

Then there are several other game capture software that I've never really used. You can always record your mic seperately with voice recording programs. Here's a list I once found online with game-recording software.

Mirillis Action!
Quobi – Game Recorder
Fraps (free/paid)
ZDSoft Screen Recorder
Camtasia Studio
LiteCam 3
WM Capture
CamStudio (its free)
Bandicam
E.M. Free Game Capture
D3DGear
Snagit
ACA Capture Pro
Sonne Screen Video Capture
Easy Screen Capture Video
Replay Capture Suite
Growler Guncam
Playclaw

---

Feel free to let me know which one you used and what you thought of it..

I've fixed Camstudio, but it lags. I've tried fraps before, but it also lags and has a watermark.

Recording the screen while gaming takes quite a bit of power.  Any modern i-series processor or AMD FX with at least 4GB of RAM and a decent video card are pretty much requirements to get smooth recording while gaming.  Even then you might experience lag from time to time.  If you're trying to do this on an older Core 2 Duo or AM2/+ processor with DDR2 RAM and an older graphics card, you'll probably have issues.  If your rig is older than that, forget it completely man.

I use Bandicam, but for MMORPGs (like Dead Frontier, for example) it causes the game to lag. That's the only bad thing I've seen about it since switching to it from Screencast-o-Matic. Screencast-o-Matic doesn't cause the game to lag, but the resulting video lags.
