Title: I'm starting a Halo clan
Post by: Cyberlizard on November 17, 2006, 02:01:28 PM
This just came to me.  I have a decent amount of friends who have Halo for the PC and I host servers so we play multiplayer on a daily basis and I just thought "Hey!  Maybe I can start a Halo clan.  That would be awesome!"  :DD  This is open to any GoF members who have Halo for the PC.  I still have yet to think up of a good clan name.  Hmm.  Any suggestions?  My Halo gamertag is RAPTOR117.

We'll do it tonight.  Me, Action, Dark and LF Fan.  Do you have a Skype account an a PC mic?  The other four of us use that messaging program to voice chat instead of instant message.  A really neat program.   :)

Good!   :D   Now we have an even number of people.  As long as we have an even number of people in this clan we can play team matches like Team Slayer and Capture the Flag.  :)

does it cost to use it Halo? how does it work on Halo?

It doesn't cost anything.  It's completely free.  And you just simply run the program while you're playing Halo.  It's that easy.

Oh and the server name is "Dino Clan server" and it's password protected.  The password is GoF.

do I do that on skype? this server name? or is that on Halo?

I am not sure how it works while running. do I have to have you on my contact list? I am really confused here.

Yes, I have to have you on my contact list.  We start a conference with the other members of the clan, and we just start up Halo while Skype is running.

I may be up for such a clan now that I actually have Halo! B)

By the way, Teamspeak is a more efficient program for playing games over the Internet than Skype is.  This is because Skype maintains a constant connection between everyone in the conversation while Teamspeak requires the user to hold down a key to talk.

While this may sound like a pain, it is Much better when it comes to saving bandwidth and keeping that all-important Ping/lag to a minimum!  This is because Teamspeak uses nearly Zero bandwidth when nobody is talking (aka Dead Air).  Skype and it's constant bandwidth usage is convenient but it is a bandwidth hog.  If you have lag/ping issues, try out Teamspeak.  We're getting enough players that having them ALL on Skype may slow a game down to a crawl with all the lag.
Just my 2 cents. :P:

I see.

I think the reason we are using Skype is because Littlefoot Fan can't get his mic to work on any other program. Not sure if he's tried TeamSpeak.

Nope haven't tried teamspeak, although it will probably work for me as well. Messengers were the only programs that my mic didn't work for.

Teamspeak does sound better, but then it would be a pain if we wanted to just sit in the server and chat or something. We also sometimes may carry out a conversation in the middle of a game, and to hold down the button so many times just sounds aggrivating lol

But yea, Skype does take up alot of bandwidth. However I used to get a solid ping of about 110 the first time I played with Tanner and Kacie. I don't know why, but this last time I played with them, mine and Kacie's ping were skyrising to about 700. The lowest it would stay at was about 210, and that was pretty bad.

Maybe we could see which clan member has the best internet, and have them host? I'm not sure if that would help, but one of the main reasons I liked Skype so much, was because you could talk freely and didn't have to hold down a button everytime you wanted to say something.

Maybe we can take turns hosting and see who has the better internet connection that way.

I am upgrading my Internet connection on Wednesday.  I'll try hosting after that if we want.  Right now, I highly recommend I Don't host! :lol  Once I get my high-speed cable connection on Wedneday, I'll see how well it works. B)

You can keep your wireless.  At least my connection is always "Excellent" B)
i'm only 10 feet from my modem and 5 feet from my router anyway.  I don't really need wireless.

Hmmm, I have wireless, I'm just still hooked right up to my dad's router by cable (Don't feel like switchin back). I'm not sure what's better than what, I just heard that cable was the best. Meh, I dunno :p
