I've got the perfect video pertaining to this.  Adam Orth, a microsoft employee just made a fool of himself on Twitter about this whole thing.

Gamers Zone / Nintendo President Looking to Retire
« on: March 07, 2013, 02:39:57 PM »
Shigeru Miyamoto isn't the president of Nintendo.  That's Satoru Iwata.  Shigeru Miyamoto is just the creator/creative director for most of Nintendo's key franchises like Mario, Zelda and StarFox.

This whole talk about him retiring has been circulating the net since before Skyward Sword was released.  When he does leave Nintendo I wish him the best of luck.  But for now it seems like some of the projects will have at least a little bit of involvement on his part.  It's nice that he's making it a gradual change instead of ducking out suddenly.

Silver Screen / 1990s overrated?
« on: March 06, 2013, 01:31:52 PM »
Absolutely not!  I think both the 80s and the 90s were awesome.  They were experimental, cheesy, and totally out there.  The early 2000s were great too, even with the cultural reset button of 9/11, the spirit of the 90s lasted a good two years after.

Animated movies were hand-drawn and CG movies didn't totally dominate the moviescape like they way they did in the 2000s.  Games of the time didn't rely on graphics as a crutch like so many do nowadays.  But that might be changing for the better.  Games of the 90s often relied on good storytelling, soundtracks and other atmospheric techniques to cope with the technical limitations of the SNES and Genesis.

Sometimes I wonder if I was meant to be born in 1981 rather than 1991.  Since many things that I feel good watching or playing come from 1980 through 2003.

Silver Screen / Wreck-it Ralph
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:27:50 PM »
I remember seeing it way back when it first came out in theaters.  And I'm definitely going to buy the DVD!  I have to admit, if there was only one movie I could watch for the rest of my life, it would have to be Wreck-It Ralph.  That was the first time the credits to a movie made me cry.  Because I didn't want it to end, and I didn't want to leave the theater.  All that nostalgia in the credits really struck my heart.   :p

The Party Room / Tell us something about yourself!
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:20:25 PM »
I'm a major foodie, specializing in East Asian cuisine, specifically Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

I spent the 2011-2012 school year studying abroad in Japan.  Which was an amazing experience that I wish would never end...  I plan to return after graduating university through the JET program as an English teacher.

I'm saving money to build a fursuit... Scalysuit might be a better term.  xD

In a week I'll be going to my first ever furry convention.

Visual Art / Fursona Refsheets
« on: February 13, 2013, 03:59:07 PM »
Heyall.  I thought it would be fun to start a topic where those on the GOF's furry community can share refsheets of their fursonas or characters if they have any.  People in the furry fandom most commonly comission refsheets or draw them themselves.  More specifically, refsheets based off "fursonas" or the furry avatar that people online identify as.  Though keep in mind, refsheets posted here have to be clean.  Since some on sites like FurAffinity can go into more detail than we're willing to read about. :lol  As an example, I will post mine first.

This is what I drew last week as a yearly update of my fursona.  Sketched on paper, scanned it, and the rest was done in Paint Tool SAI and GIMP.

Gamers Zone / Violence in Video Games
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:50:06 AM »
I find this whole argument to be completely disgusting.  I remember when my kooky old grandpa started complaining about gun control, what was his first excuse?  Video games!  Seriously, if I hear one more old codger use video games as a scapegoat I'm going to scream...

It seems like no amount of explaining is going to convince these people.  They'll find a scapegoat rather than address an issue practically.  It's bad influences on parts of the parents and not the video games themselves!  I was taught at an early age to distinguish between fantasy and reality.  I play violent games all the time and even though my mom hates it, she knows that I won't go shoot up a school or jack somebody's car.  The biggest problem is these senile old folks think that just because they're "old" that they're right.  They're out of touch with the generations after them.  It's always been this way for decades if not centuries, becoming more prevalent starting with the rebellious teens of the 50s and violent comic books.  Older generations will never, I repeat, never have a full understanding of their grandkid's generation.  Ever.

The Fridge / what do you use to be online?
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:43:01 AM »
I primarily use my Macbook when I'm home.  When I'm out at school I use my Droid 2 Global and my Fujitsu Stylistic ST5111 tablet, which is older than the Great Valley itself.   :lol

On occasion I also use the Wii to get on YouTube and once I get a new PS3 I'll be using that instead.

Gamers Zone / Steam Box
« on: January 08, 2013, 11:14:03 AM »
Though X3i can't reveal it's name, though we suspect it's the Steam Box, they seem to work in correlation with Valve in marrying PC games with consoles.  This would allow people to play Steam games on their TV!

As a console gamer, I am stoked.  A little device the size of an orange that I can hook up to my TV and play all the PC games I can't play on my mac.  It's perfect for people like me who are console gamers at heart and can't afford to build a dedicated PC.  Knowing Valve, I hope this will exceed the service provided by similar hardware such as OnLive.  Despite their delay of Half Life 3, they still haven't disappointed me yet.  I hope they don't start now.

Gamers Zone / Pokemon X & Y
« on: January 08, 2013, 10:26:46 AM »
Finally!  My 3DS has been collecting dust for nearly two years and finally there's something worth playing on it.

I stopped caring for the Pokemon after the 4th generation, but what continues to draw me to the games is how each game looks different from the next.  I'm stoked that they finally ditched sprites in favor of legit 3D graphics.  What has also caught my interest is how each region is based off real-life locations and I like trying to make cultural comparisons between what goes on in the game and what there is in real life.  I chuckled a bit when I went to Mt. Aso in Japan and found the cable car and lava rock peddler, and the giant steaming crater.  Just like in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.  :lol

Gamers Zone / Wii U
« on: December 03, 2012, 01:18:05 AM »
While I do have an interest in the Wii U, I think I'll wait a bit until there are more games I would like.  So far, Super Mario Bros U and two other titles are what I'm interested in.  Other then that, nothing much else.

At the latest I'll probably wait until the other two consoles are out from Sony and Microsoft.  I've already have Wii, 360, and PS3 in the same house.  :lol  I'll most likely do the same with the next gen as well.  Depending on whether or not I can buy used games on the next Xbox and Playstation.

Computer and Electronics / New Windows OS Might Launch in 2013
« on: November 30, 2012, 02:39:41 AM »
Didn't they already come out with Windows 8?  I'd think they'd finally settle down with one operating system that was upgradable and lasts a long time, like XP.  They just cut all support for that OS last year and people are still using it over ten years after it came out.  If I'm gonna stick with a new operating system, I'll be using Windows 7 until the 2020s come by.

Gamers Zone / So With the Wii U Coming Next Month
« on: October 13, 2012, 01:11:33 PM »
Looks like GameStop isn't taking preorders even though it's only a month away from release.  I just hope Nintendo learned its lesson with the Wii by keeping more in stock than just five at a time.

The Fridge / When Younger, I liked and disliked...

When I was younger, I loved bananas.

Now, I hate them in fruit form.  Banana bread I can tolerate, but I don't like the texture of the fruit.  :p

The other night, was at a point where I was thoroughly convinced that where I am now is just a dream and I was really back in Japan, going about the routines I had over there.  Guess that's a calling to go back.  xD

Gamers Zone / Overused Settings
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:45:21 AM »
And I don't mind that at all.  There are instances where I have enjoyed a few fantasy games.  Whether they could be considered medieval would be questionable.  Chrono Trigger is not entirely a medieval fantasy game, but I love it for it's story and beautiful soundtrack.  In regards to games that gravitate closer to the medieval part of fantasy, I like Soul Calibur, if only for it's blend of Eastern and Western techniques.  Same with that of Monster Hunter.

Gamers Zone / Overused Settings
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:18:43 AM »
Though this topic may spark a bit of controversy for some, but what video game settings do you think are overused?

Personally, I think it varies from genre to genre.  The biggest problem plaguing shooters for the last decade was WWII.  I'm happy that it's seen a die-down in the last couple of years.  Now it seems like modern military shooters, which sprung up after they caught on that people were tired of WWII games, seem to be suffering the same fate.  Every one of them is the same.  COD, Battlefield, and Medal of Honor to a lesser extent.  In some ways, interstellar wars are hardly a new topic either.  But these days, it seems like modern military shooters are the ones over-saturating the market.

In terms of RPGs and RTS games, bleeding into other types of games as well, I feel it's medieval fantasy.  Especially ones that use Tolkien-esque tropes.  Skyrim, Everquest, Warcraft, and the list goes on and on.  So many tropes of western fantasy are so overused in video games that it would take a hell of a miracle to come up with something original.  What I find even more annoying is the fanbase.  The never-ending, pushy, stuck-up fanbase stereotype that shuns and humiliates you if you make the simple statement that you "just don't like it".  Granted, that subject should be discussed in another topic.
