Title: Member Awards 2010 - Voting open
Post by: Malte279 on June 04, 2010, 04:14:47 AM
Once again it is time to open the annual award voting of the GOF and as tradition has it I will open by plagiarizing on a historical speech or document (I’m curious who will recognize who or what I am spoofing).

Good morning my fellow GOF members.
Until the latest of our award votes on the forum the GOF had no harmful degree of competitive spirit about the awards. Members of the GOF could, with time and as required, participate in the award voting and the regular discussions and activities of the GOF without any negative influence whatsoever resulting from the one for the other.
There has been some action following the last award voting that proved a risk to the spirit and consequently continuation of the award voting by bringing in insistence of individuals to get an award whether or not the other GOF members agreed and taking ill if they did not.
In the councils of GOFment we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether deliberate or non-deliberate, by ambitiously award-seeking complexes. The potential for the undesirable rise of misplaced eagerness for glory exists and might persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger the fun of the award voting or its nature as a democratic process.
With all this serious talk, let’s get down to the fun part and open the voting :)

The voting for the first eight awards ends on Friday the 18th of June. The eight awards to be voted upon are:
~Fanart Award
~Feedback Award
~Friendly Member Award
~Helpful Member Award
~Philosopher Award
~Proactive Award
~Project Award
~Role Play Gamer Award.
Title: Member Awards 2010 - Voting open
Post by: Malte279 on June 04, 2010, 10:30:28 AM
Very often it is extremely difficult to decide whom to vote for on a given award. There is one award however about which I am absolutely certain this year as I feel that the candidate for whom I cast my vote has really done extraordinarily. The award I am talking of is the Feedback Award and the one who I think deserves it most is Pangea. Compared to the feedback we have had so far in the GOF I think Pangea has really brought in a totally new level. He has credited almost every piece of fanart that has been posted here since he has joined us and he has done so by much more than the mere politeness of a “It looks awesome!” kind of phrase but has really examined the art he was reviewing with an obvious interest that in itself must flatter the artist and compel his or her gratitude. But Pangea is not a flatterer while his reviews are really kind and polite he does not subject himself to the limitations which politeness imposes on some reviewers who, for a misunderstood concept of politeness, dare not criticize what needs to be criticized and thereby give up honesty for fear of offending anyone. Pangea has never been shy to point out where things can be improved and has thereby helped artists a lot to further improve their works and I don’t know of any case in which his critical remarks came across as impolite or unfounded. Reviewers like him are really hard to find and are (I apologize for sounding so economical now, I don’t mean to) of incredible worth to any community they join. I really feel that his great job in reviewing the art posted in the GOF must be rewarded. Therefore my vote for the Feedback Award goes to Pangea .

The Proactive Award is often tricky. Amongst all the activity on a board so large as the GOF it is tough to figure out whose activity did so much to promote the board and the community or to introduce new elements to it that it would warrant this person to be given the special recognition expressed through this award. Sometimes people who bring about new things or new ideas may not even be aware of it at the time when they do it not realizing that they set the stone in motion that will create an avalanche... this is not meant to sound so destructive when we are talking about activities which prove so beneficial to the GOF. The reason for this long introduction speech is that I don’t think the candidate I want to cast my vote for expected for her idea to find such a resonance as it did. This is no reason however not to give credit for the good idea. On August 3rd 2009 a member of this board posted a simple thread titled “Ask me anything”. Within a few weeks there were dozens such threads up and two admins and a mod who happened to be in front of a screen in Sweden at the time were quite impressed at the success of the “ask me movement” (and created their own ask me threads). Unlike some other activities there is also a lot of content to the “Ask me” threads which help to get to know each other better and I think I am not speaking for myself only when I say that members really enjoy seeing new posts in their personal “Ask me” thread. By now the “Ask me threads” have an own section which enjoys a great popularity and it feels like the threads had been there all along in spite of the fact that the first one was started less then a year ago. And it was Amy who got the stone rolling. For the introduction of this simple but great and successful idea to the Gang of Five my vote for the Proactive Award goes to Rat_Lady7.

Compared to the other activities of the GOF the Projects have become a bit less active within the last months. I personally bear the blame for letting the land before time audio play project slide. I just didn’t have either the time, the leisure or the mood (and sometimes all of those) to devote to this project. I am sorry for that and one of the main reasons for me to bring it up in the first place is to give credit to Kor for writing a really good draft for a land before time audio play which should not be forgotten. The project that has sparked more interest than most (maybe even more than all) other projects in the GOF so far is the land before time computer game for which Tim has won a well deserved Project Award last year. There is however another Member of the GOF who I think deserves great credit for her role in this project as well as another project of her own. She has done much to create the webpage about the land before time computer game, she has created graphics for the game, she has lend great support to those who are working with the game, and she has created an independent project altogether by creating a Deviantart group devoted to the land before time fanart to which many members of the GOF have contributed their art. I am talking of Iris and because of all this my vote for the Project Award goes to Mumbling.

I shall briefly why I think certain awards must go to peoples :D

For the Fanart Award I would like to nominate Ptyra. I think she has been particularly active with her flyer drawings. I love the fact that you can see she is really improving. You've done a great job on developing your special characters and giving flyers a special spot in the Land Before Time fanart world. Great job! :)

Second of all for the Feedback Award I would like to nominate Pangaea. You have been giving me some very useful advice on my clay figures, and I have seen you active in other people's topics as well. I'm glad we have you here as a member! :)

Now for the Friendly Member Award I choose you! The Friendly Sharptooth!... (yay pokemon reference). While not particularly active on the GOF anymore, we have talked on MSN often. You have been there to check (or rewrite parts) of my English assignments for school, which I think can be quite messy sometimes (knowing my style of writing). Also you have been kind enough to send me a present randomly, which I think is very nice! So thanks for that :D

The most Helpful Member this year for me was definitely Malte279. He helped me (and Tim) by talking to us in times where it was quite necessary, trying to encourage us both to take action against the scammer. While it had no physical effect (we didn't catch the scammer nor got the money back), it sure helped me (and I bet for tim as well) mentally, to keep our sanity. Thank you so much for being there in those hard times!

I fear I have been too inactive when it comes to the GoF to decide on someone for the Philosopher Award :oops . I have not been checking many land before time discussion related topics, so I won't cast my vote in this section (unless something miraculously pops up in my head).

My Project Award nomination goes to action9000 for still keeping up with creating the game even with your recent personal issues. I think you are doing an awesome job and should keep doing it until we have version 1.0! :lol

Role Play Gamer Award - No opinion, I am not active in that section :D

There is one vote I have not yet decided on, this is the 'Proactive member award'. I shall add it later!

Post by: LBTFan13 on June 04, 2010, 12:33:48 PM
Ah it's that time again. Well, here are my nominations:

Fanart Award - This one was difficult for me because there is a lot of really strong fanart here on GOF. It came down to two people once again, but I have decided to go differently from before. The person I am nominating has shown true expertise in their artwork, even to the point where they could easily work as a designer for Universal. So it is with great pleasure that I nominate LBTFan, the one without the 13 by their name, for Fanart Award.

Feedback Award - This time around, I am nominating a person who not only has given the GOF a lot of feedback in numerous areas, but also me personally. Whenever I am working on something, she always gives her opinion on how it stands and how it could be improved. She has also given much feedback on various topics throughout GOF. That is why I am nominating DarkHououmon for Feedback Award.

Friendly Member Award - This is also hard because there a lot of really friendly members here on GOF. This person I am choosing however I have never seen disrespect another member in any shape or form. He is usually among the first people to greet a new member, and he goes above and beyond to make a person feel welcome. That is why I nominate Kor for Friendly Member Award.

Helpful Member Award - This person was a no brainer for me for this award. She has helped me through numerous problems I have faced in my life, most notably my roommate problems. She also provides assistance to other users who are in need, maybe not in an extreme like me but in the same manner. Also, she really helped me sort out certain things in my fanfic series. I am pleased to nominate Cancerian Tiger for Helpful Member Award.

Philosopher Award - This was also a no brainer for me. This person has always provided meaningful analysis in various topics. He always provides a new depth to discussion, and goes above and beyond simply saying "I like this because this,". I nominate Malte for Philosopher Award.

Proactive Award - To be proactive means to create topics that have meaning and are for the good or better of the forum. This person was once again a no brainer for me because all of her topics have been highly meaningful and nice additions to the forum. Just by the Ask Me section alone, she has started a trend that now consists of multiple threads. I happily nominate Rat_Lady for Proactive Award.

Project Award - I sound like a broken record now. Again, no brainer. This person has demonstrated prestige knowledge in her music videos and betas, and has been my inspiration for my videos. Short and simple, not much else to say. I nominate DarkHououmon for Project Award.

Role Play Gamer Award - This is the most difficult for me, since I seem to be most active in this session. There are plenty of strong role players in the section, but one continues to provide strong characters. Before I reveal him, I would like to make an honorable mention to MrDrake. He has become quite an impressive RP'er lately and delivers quality characters. Having said that, for my nomination.  His current RP "A New World, Same Old Faces" has provided a truly dark look into the future of the Great Valley as well as its inhabitants, and his character Longtail continues to grow. I nominate GreatValleyGuardian for Role Play Gamer Award.

I won't vote in every category, since I don't know enough about some of the activities that go on in certain areas of the forum, but here's what I do know:

~Feedback Award - Third Pangaea. He knows an insane amount of info on dinosaurs, and is always willing to share it with others.

EDIT: Put "She" instead of "He" on accident. Sorry :oops Thanks for catching that, Rat_Lady.

~Friendly Member Award - For the past few months, MrDrake and I have gotten to know each other over PMs, and I've noticed that I'm not the only one hes spent a lot of his time talking to and getting to know better. In the role-play section, he's extremely open to befriending other users characters with his own, and above all others takes time to ensure he comments on what other users contribute.

~Philosopher Award - This one may come as a bit of a surprise, since I don't think we've ever been on the same side of an argument, but above all other users, Noname has consistently shown an interest in the philosophical and political debates undertaken in the AM section, and has always kept his points and arguments level-headed and sourced. While I know Malte is the obvious choice for this award, and he'll no doubt win it anyway, I have always admired Noname because he tends to be in the minority (sometimes alone), and yet he still sticks to his guns, illustrates his stance, and does not stoop to logical fallacies and personal attacks. In short, I can argue his points, but I can't argue his spirit.

~Proactive Award - Pokeplayer984 has always maintained a steady supply of new threads, including everything from movie reviews, to screenshots, to video uploads, to electronics/technology discussions. And he shows no sign of stopping. I'd call that pretty proactive.

~Project Award - Gotta go to Mumbling for all the effort I've seen her put into the RPG, but Malte has already nominated her. I guess I second the nomination.

~Role Play Gamer Award. - The founder of the one RP series I've participated in on the Internet, Serris appears in numerous role-plays throughout the RP section, and is both reliable and flexible as a GM. He does not disappear for long periods of timeand cause his RPs to fall stagnant, and he allows his players the flexibility to contribute to the plot to degrees that they feel like they're helping construct a universe, rather than just playing in one.

Erm...I think you mean he, since Pangaea is indeed a Mars symbol. :p

Letz zee...

The Fanart Award has to go to someone that not only is proactive in the arts, but someone that really works hard within the arts. This is definitely a tricky choice since there are three canidates that I really think deserve this award, but I really think no one could have rightfully recieved this award as much as Ptyra. Not only does she draw certain characters I heart, she is able to listen to critisim and take advice from it. That's definitely something I don't think I would ever do.

Feedback Award- This was definitely a no brainer. Pangaea does an awesome job giving the sandwich form of critique, good things first, then critique, then good stuff again. He also does an awesome job giving his opinion to others if he believes something isn't right or someone is not being treated well. I really admire his courage and his eloquent way to writing.

More will definitely be coming up...I just need to think a bit more about it. :p

Role Play Gamer-There were a lot a members I think that deserve this award. However, I don't think any member could deserve this award much more then Kor. He's always providing feedback about rping, he joins so many rps it's not even funny! He also does a nice, accurate portrayal of Petrie in the "In the Land Before Time" rp. And I'm glad he still plays in the rp.

Friendly Member Award-This is definitely NOT a no brainer, since there are so many friendly people here. However, if I were to choose a member who seemed to always have something nice to say to everyone, who ALWAYS greets them in the "Welcome" section, this award definitely belongs of Cancerian Tiger. She's such a sweet, beautiful spirit in our community, and I really feel blessed to have her as a friend. :^.^:

Proactive Award- Sometimes I wonder if this award is just a nice way to say the said person is a complete blow hard. :lol I guess part of that is true, but also the proactive award is granted to the said person that has provided a lot to the community. I think out of all the members here however, I think Pokeplayer984 really deserves this award this year. He has posted so many topics about LBT and about many things. I may not agree with his views on certain things, but he still sticks to what he says and that’s always awesome if someone can do that, no matter what other people say. He even posts all his project vids of Dink and so many other things. I was thinking of putting him in the Project nomination, but the proactive award seemed to have fit a bit more I think for him.

Project Award This award definitely goes to Mumbling for all her efforts on helping with the RPG project. While Tim was away with some things going on in his life, she was there to help with the project, and she even came out of her comfort zone and started a new form of fanart! That really takes a lot of guts and a lot of flexibility to try and experience different forms of art.

Fanart Award - Though there are many great artists on the site, the one who has done the most for me would have to be Sky.  He always takes the time to make my requests, and does an excellant job worthy of the movie animators themselves.  Far Away Home simply would not be the story it is without the artwork to go along with it.

Feedback Award - No debate on this one.  Pangaea is 100% deserving of this award for the time he takes to not only review but correct everything that I write on a weekly basis.  Though me and him differ on a few subjects such as humor and music, we are both at heart LBT fans and have achieved a profound friendship through this site.

Friendly Member Award - Again, Pangaea deserves this one because he is always nice all the time, and has always been honest about how he feels.  Though a bit too sensitive at times, he has a passion for the Gang of Five that runs deeper then any other member I can bring to light.

Philosipher Award - In my mind this award is very well suited for someone who involks thought in their posts and provides good insight into matters that are too complex for some to understand.  To that end, I nominate Malte for the exorbant amount of efford he puts into every post and the passion he has for thought and the LBT.

Proactive Award - There are a few members who are on here all the time and constantly contribute to the site, so it was really hard to single one out specifically.  To that end, I'll have to nominate Cancerian Tiger because of her contributions to my story while doing other things on the site.

Role Play Gamer Award - The member who has the most passion for role play gaming in my mind is Serris, and while my interest comes and goes he always remains completely devoted to Darwin's Soliders and Insane Cafe, carrying through until the end and then starting another one!

I don't know if this is the best place to put this, but I just wanted to let you all know that I will NOT be voting this year so please don't nominate me for anything.  I would vote, but I'm afraid that I haven't gotten the chance to get to know the newer members well enough to vote fairly.  It is unfair for me to just vote for those of you who I know well just because there are so many of you that I don't really know.  I wouldn't have even said anything except I didn't want to seem like a jerk or have people worried that I wasn't voting.  I have always voted in the past so this decision of mine would have seemed unusual had I not said anything.  Not to mention the fact that I don't want a vote wasted on me when it could go to someone who could actually potentially receive the award that goes along with it.

Okay, me to vote now!

Ahem.

For the Fanart Award, as I have only seen very few fanart stuff on here, I shall give it to The Great Valley Guardian, I mean, from what I have seen of his drawings, I find them to be rather interesting as it is.

The Feedback Award shall go to....hmm...tough one that one, but I believe that I shall give it to Noname, I mean, he has been givign good feed back on what posts of his I have seen, going into detail about things and what have you.

The Friendly Member Award is an easy one for me as the one who has been friendly to me all this time....is none other than LB&T, my vote goes to him for the sole reason that he and I have been getting to know each other through PMs quite a bit now and he's just been nothing but friendly in those PMs as it is.

Oooh the Helpful Member Award is also a rather tough one to go by, but I believe I shall still nominate someone for this one, and it shall go to Noname, why might you ask? I don't entirely know of a good reason on why, but it just feels right is all....

For the Philosopher Award, I'm actually going to be staying out of this one, I usually stay out of the topics in general, so I have no vote on that one at all.

Ah the Proactive Award, and I do know what it means too.....and my vote fot that one goes to Nick22, I've seen him on quiet a bit as it is, so yes, he does get my vote on that part.

Hmm the Project Award, not sure on that one, as I haven't really looked into the whole project one myself, so I believe I shall keep out of that one myself.

Ah, last but not least, the Role Play Gamer Award, so far, out of those I have RPed with, which might I add, is a rather tough one actually, but it shall go to none other than Noname....but it was still a close one, since others do have an honourable mention StarfallRaptor, LB&T, Serris, Nick22 and The Great Valley Guardian

Well, there goes my votes, two I am keeping away from, so I have no say in those matters.

I don't have many votes to cast at this time, but there is one person who I believe finally deserves her due.

Ptyra gets my vote for fanart, as she has shown skill, determination, and frankly, while her images of Pterano are good, it is her backgrounds that I like the most of any I have seen on this site. While there are only so many pictures of snakes, pterodactyls, and household appliances one can stand (all of which look pretty good), it is important to recognize effort and improvement over time, both of which she has shown.

Role Playing_ There are many worthy roleplayers, on the rp forum.Serris, Mr Drake and Kor to name just three but my vote this year goes to a poster whose roleplay has covered more pages than any other. having the longest roleplay is an accomplishment worth noting and it is for this reason that i vote forNONAME.
Proactive-
There are a number of posters who can be counted on to be here frequently, and it was not easy choosing the poster i was going to vote for. Ultimately i choose NONAME because of his contributions, to the forum over the course of the past year. Honorable mentions in this award go to Serris, Cancerian Tiger anbd Mumbling.
fRiendly Member- While there are not shortage of friendly posters here  so again this vote is not easily cast. But thanks to his efforts over the past year I nominate Kor for this award.

Feedback Award-I vote for Caustizer, as he's given me some very helpful feedback over the course of my stories.

Friendly Member-I vote for Cancerian Tiger, as she's nice and easy to get along with, plus she also likes horror movies  :DD

Hmmm... let's see...

I'd like to vote Noname for the Role Playing Award. Like what Lain said, he's a good RP-er. :)

I'd also like to vote DarkHouomon for Project Award, for she makes pretty creative and epic MVs. Oh and I'm also voting her for Friendly Member Award; she's a really fun person to talk to. :DD

I think that's about it from me. I haven't been paying enough attention to some other stuff in here for me to vote more. :p

I read the rules, and will give six other categories now, having already covered fanart.

Feedback Award: I vote for Pangaea, who has been helpful when it comes to anything related to dinosaurs, which is a major issue on this forum, for sure.

Friendly Member Award: I vote for Metadude, as he has been not only friendly towards me, but enthusiastic about the RP games and everything in general.

~Helpful Member Award: MrDrake gets my vote, as he has been a great asset to everything I have ever done with him.

~Philosopher Award: This one was a hard one... but my vote goes to Pokeplayer, who is always talking about an item of some importance, often with insightful comments.

~Proactive Award: I vote for Nick22, who has, along with me and Kor, maintained very high posting rates, and like the others, makes up a large part of the GoF itself. Statistically, a random post is most likely to be Nick's, mine, or Kor's.

~Project Award: Mumbling gets my vote for this, partially because it is hard to think of anyone else with a project of such scope on the GoF.

Like others have said, there are so many members here I feel are worthy of the member awards, but only a few members receive awards.  That bein' said, I shall cast my votes now.

Fanart Award: There have been many members who have emerged as great fanartists, and I have been very impressed with a particular member's fanart.  Sky comes in a very close second, but my vote for Fanart goes to Ptyra.

Feedback Award: I don't have to think twice about who deserves this award.  Not only is the particular member very helpful in reviewing fanfics but also makes interesting posts in general.  My vote for Feedback goes to Pangaea.

Friendly Member Award: This one is the hardest for me, as everybody here is insanely friendly.  The member I have in mind is very friendly and fun to have around on the GOF, and has grown to be a very good friend of mine, and so my vote goes to Rat_lady7.

Helpful Member Award: This one is tough as well.  I would normally vote for landbeforetimelover due to his extensive knowledge of computers and willingness to assist members, but since he's not voting, my vote will have to go to someone else.  The member I have in mind is also helpful with technology issues along with making good-natured posts in heated topics in attempts to diffuse conflicts.  That said, my vote goes to DarkHououmon.

Philosopher Award: This member is very levelheaded and keeps their cool during times of conflict on the GOF.  The posts they make are very insightful and make others think.  Therefore, my vote goes to Malte.

Proactive Award: This member has made many contributions to the AM section, the Party Room, and has started a successful RP.  My vote goes to Rat_lady7.

Project Award: I understand this has been a busy year and not as many projects have been put on display by members, and hopefully this will improve over the next year.  I still continue to be impressed by DarkHououmon's MVs, and so my vote goes to DarkHououmon.

Role Play Gamer Award: Since joining the RP section, I have gotten to know many good RPGers.  This one is quite difficult, and while I have not joined any of this member's RPs as of yet, I still find the success of his series of RPs to be impressive.  Therefore, my vote goes to Serris.

Best of luck to everyone :goodluck.

Jeez, it's been a while since I posted... I might as well chip in as well.

I do think that the friendly member award should go to MrDrake - ever since he joined, he's been nothing but outgoing and friendly towards everyone else.

And the Philosopher award should go to Malte - his posts always provoke deep thought in me and make me reconsider my views on a subject.

Like many others, I'll need to think about the others for a small while.

Fanart Award - This award goes to Sky. His artwork is simply put, amazing. It displays a fusion of the LBT animator's style and his own unique style. Great Valley Guardian gets an honorable mention for his unique art style and collage.

Feedback Award - It is the rare reviewer who is simultaneously straightforward and polite. It is still rarer, for that same reviewer to provide advice on nearly every piece of fanart and fanfiction. It is for these reasons that I nominate Pangaea for this award. An honorable mention goes out to Caustizer for his reviews on nearly every chapter of Twilight Valley

Friendly Member Award - This member is the epitome of politeness and grace. While she may not always agree with everyone, she manages to remain respectful of other people's views. And she also makes new members feel welcome to this community. My vote goes out to Cancerian Tiger. An honorable mention goes out to Kor, who takes everything in stride and never lets his emotions get the better of him nor lashes out at anything.

Helpful Member Award - While every member here is helpful to some degree, there are some who go beyond that and do something extraordinary. Pangaea is one of those. He not only helps fan fiction authors in proofreading and providing ideas, he also helps those who are curious about paleontology. To top if off, his "LBT Glossary" has been an invaluable resource for fan fiction authors. An honorable mention goes out to the GOF's computer savant landbeforetimelover. He has provided an invaluable service for those who need help with their computers.

Philosopher Award - While I may not always see eye-to-eye with this member's views, they are still thought provoking and interesting. It is for this reason that I nominate Noname. An honorable mention goes out to DarkHouomon for being laconic but yet bringing up salient and interesting points in debates.

Proactive Award - It is the rare member who spurs the creation of an entirely new subforum with a single topic. It is for this reason alone that I nominate Rat_Lady7. Honorable mentions go to Nick22, Noname and Kor. They are the three most prolific posters on this forum and they bring a unique flair to this forum.

Project Award - This award goes out to Mumbling. Not only has she played a major role in the RPG project, she also designed the site for it. Furthermore, she has created a Deviantart group where other LBT fans can place their artwork. An honorable mention goes out to DarkHouomon for her simply stunning music videos.

Role Play Gamer Award - Because I am extremely active in this area, I find it hard to nominate just one person. I have RP'd with some stunningly talented people: Noname, Nick22, LB&T, Kor and Starfall all receive an honorable mention for their sheer talent in RP'ing. But the award goes out to MrDrake. His characters are very deep and blend perfectly well with the RP's settings and mesh perfectly with the other characters.

My proactive award vote goes to Rat_lady7 :) She has started a hype with her Ask me topics, and has created quite some topics that keep the GoF running.

I'd like to mention Landbeforetimelover here, who sadly does not join into the awards, for having designed the pretty buttons, header and background we use every day :)

Post by: Malte279 on June 05, 2010, 06:57:46 AM
Many a word have I spend on the explanations for the votes I have given so far and yet these have been the votes I have been most certain about. I am now getting closer to the votes where it turn out to be a lot tougher for me to make decisions because we have so many candidates who are well deservant of the recognition symbolized by an award. When I mention more than one person in the text of such a vote explanation it is not to show the one I ultimately vote for as way above the others but much rather to give credit to all of those I mention and maybe others will pick another of the candidates I name but didn’t vote for. At the same time it is not always (certainly not in the case of fanart) possible to mention everybody’s contributions. With art it is really as delightful that we have so many great artists as it is a pain to have to pick but one of them and another difficulty is that sometimes there are artists who produce not as much art as others but art which in quality is just adorable. There are others who create a lot of art which sometimes may not reach the quality (and even the term “quality” is wrong with reference to art as it is so much a matter of personal taste) of the artists who create much less. I feel a bit in a moral dilema there as sure enough the amount of work and effort should not be totally disregarded even if one may like a single piece of another artist even better. Oh dear, I need Pangea to teach me a lesson about how to express praise in such a manner that it doesn’t sound like criticism and criticism in a manner that may not be interpreted as impolite.
One artist who has not posted as much as others but whose art I just adore is DarkWolf91. Her art is plain awesome! However much a matter of taste and opinion this may be I do think that many will agree on this. Sky continues to post his art on the gang of five and holy awesomeness is it cool! Sky’s work is truly epic!
Artists who don’t post art frequently are sometimes overlooked which really isn’t fair. One example is Coyote_A. Your recent Ducky really has a great expression and I hope to see more art from you.
LBTFan too has posted really excellent pictures and I find it a particular joy to see how he improves his work. Even his first images are very good, but since then he has further improved for example on light and shadow effects which give his pictures real depth as well as the backgrounds which have become over more detailed and realistic. Seeing this development really makes me look forward to more art which can be posted on the GOF.
Anything written about land before time fanart in the GOF throughout 2009 and 2010 however would be utterly incomplete without including Ptyra. She has posted more art than anyone else throughout the last year and same as with the art of LBTFan it truly delights me to see her images’ development throughout time. Ptyra has also been particularly ready to try out new techniques and effects which hardly anyone here has tried out to create effects for haze, water, various surfaces, semi transparent images etc. In this and also in the great variety of strong emotions of all kind (where you can really imagine the scene that is depicted as if the image was a screenshot from a movie scene) there is great diversion in her pictures. Personally I regret a bit that there is not as great diversion with the characters depicted as almost all images show flyers only.
I am certain that Ptyra will get the very well deserved fanart award and it is with this certainty in mind and with regard to the greater variation in depicted characters that my vote for the Fanart Award goes to LBTFan who I hope will be encouraged to create and post more of his very decent fanart on the GOF.

Just quick reminders to those who have been voting so far:

1.)  If your original post does not have the minimum of 6 awards voted for, do not edit your original post to add other categories.  It will make tallying that much harder for us.  Make a new post.

2.)  Gut feelings about why members should receive an award are not acceptable reasons for why a person should receive an award.  Details are needed for the vote to count.  Most of you have done excellently on this, but I'm seeing a couple of vague votes and these will not be counted.

Allow me to cast 2 more votes (since I've only casted 3 so far)...

I hereby vote Sky for the Fanart Award, for he has shown such beautiful and impressive artwork, that even words could not have described just how well those pieces of art are made. Truly a great artist, keep up the good work. ;)

For the Philosopher Award, my vote goes to Malte, for he ALWAYS have something to say about anything, and is often indeed very inspiring.

I still need to think on who should get the Proactive Award... Other than that, I'm skipping Feedback Award and Helpful Member Award, mostly because I've never had any *huge* personal help from other members in here (no offense intended). Yeah... :p

If I may ask, which votes have been too vague, and if they have been vague, can the poster make them less vague or add a good reason in another post before the "polls" close?

I think I know one overly-vague one already.

Well, these are my two final votes, I hope they make sense.

Helpful Member Award I find this award also very hard to give to just ONE member since there are many helpful, friendly, sweet people here. I remember when I was and still am going through a tough time, there are many members that helped me, gave advice and what not. And then there are members that just are willing to give a hand no matter what and genuinely have a kind spirit and don't expect anything in return, which seems to be so rare in a world where a lot of people have that, "What's in it for me?" attitude. The said member I am talking about is Littlefoot1616. I unfortunately don’t know him very well and he may not be as active as some other members here, but he has helped out A LOT in this past year. Helping me with just one post to give me hope and just giving good input on certain things here and actually helping out with the awards here. ^^

Philosopher Award- This has to be the hardest one to choose. I have a few members at the top of my head that I really believe deserve this award. Whenever it came to land before time related topics to controversial topics, these members would always give in their input constantly and back up with info. There is one member I don’t think has been mentioned yet as a candidate, so I would like to make this member I am thinking about known, up front and center. F-14 Ace I believe really deserves this award. He may not post as much as some others, but when he does, he really is passionate about when he believes in and he usually is very calm about agreeing to disagree.

Edit: I was brought to my attention about how I formed my vote for the Philosopher award, turns out F-14 Ace has no "raptor" in his username. I hope I didn't confuse the ones counting up the tallys.

Noname, since you asked here is an example of vague wording:

Oooh the Helpful Member Award is also a rather tough one to go by, but I believe I shall still nominate someone for this one, and it shall go to Noname, why might you ask? I don't entirely know of a good reason on why, but it just feels right is all....

MrDrake can certainly change it so the wording is appropriate for his vote to count.  He has time.  Voting goes on for two weeks.  Also his wording for RPs has no detailed reasoning for why he chose Noname...just mentions it was tough and listed off honorable mentions as well.

If you guys are reading this, you now know what it is that will NOT count for votes. ;)

^ That was one of the examples I was thinking about. Maybe a list of those who give overly vague descriptions is in order? Not everyone is a good writer on the GoF, despite their enthusiasm.

In any case, there is time to fix these things. I don't believe anyone I voted for was given too vague a description in my posts.

Ah, well, I shall fix it soon enough.  Especially since I do have time for it to fix it all up.

So yes, I shall get to that soon enough, just, can't think of it at the moment XD

Anyways, thanks Petrie for telling me, and other members, about the whole vauguness ordeal....I mean, I am new to this and all, wasn't sure how much of an explanation was needed and all.

My votes are as follows:

~Fanart Award

I have always appreciated Sky's talented artworks.  He is always finding creative ways to use programs and illustrate his own characters and film characters.

~Feedback Award

A member who is always giving feedback to others and trying to help out is Kor.  He is quick to respond to messages and always tries to find the good things in every situation.

~Friendly Member Award

It has been five years we've had these awards, and for five years, I've always chosen Jason (Littlefoot1616) as the friendliest member around.  He's cool as a cucumber in tough situations, and always has rational and kind words to the audience no matter what the discussion.  Jason always has a kind word for all members, and always treats others respectfully in the GOF. :)

~Helpful Member Award

Along with the feedback award (since these awards sort of overlap) I believe Kor has been one of the most helpful members of the GOF.  As I've stated above, he is quick to respond and give a good message to every topic posted on the board, and is willing to give advice whenever he can do so.

~Philosopher Award

Many philosophers have spoken their minds on LBT topics, real life topics, and been good at giving their points out to readers.  One who never fails to give details to nth degree and make his point clearly known is Malte.  You never have to ask him to clarify--he does it the first time, and makes his point known immediately with examples, no matter what topic is posted.  He is one who certainly thinks things through.

~Proactive Award

I may be the first one to vote for myself in an award this year, but I'm going to, and here's why I'm going to put myself on a pedestal for a brief moment.  Back in September, members noticed a new section: the Rock Circle where they could penn ideas about what would help the board.  The Rock Circle was my brainchild, and I decided to add it as a section to the GOF so all members could have a public voice and provide ideas for the better of the GOF community.  I pretty much shoved it down the staff's throat and said this is what we're doing and how we're doing it, and I do feel it has been a very useful section for our community.  Take it with a grain of salt if you wish, but I do feel this section has made the GOF a more open, and democratic community where many have a voice and can share what's on their mind, and receive credit for their contributions.

~Project Award

I abstain from voting on this award because I have not actively looked at any projects created by members recently.

~Role Play Gamer Award

I vote for the same member I recently hired to help out moderate the RP section of the GOF--TheGreatValleyGuardian.  I choose him because he's excellent at role playing, plays within the guidelines of the game, and has great ideas to offer the role-playing community of the GOF.

Lack of proper writing was not the issue.  The lack of a reason for the vote was.  Anyway, the problem will be solved and fixed in due time, so no harm. :)

Philospher-I vote for Malte, as his posts are extremely well-thought out and detailed, and he manages to make his points clear.

Role Play Gamer-I vote for Great Valley Guardian, as his rps' storylines are very well thought-out and entertaining, he's great at drama and humor.

I have something to say. I would please ask to be disqualified from voting and being voted on this year. A rule was passed that I did not follow, and as such, I do not deserve to take part in the voting this time. I will have no drama, no rant, no complaint, and will not fight for an award this time around, as the fault is my own. I did something that was not against the rules when it began, but it is against the rules now, and so, I cannot take part in a vote and have everything be in accordance with said rules. Thus, I bow out of it this year.

If it is the admins wishes to keep or disregard the votes that have been cast for me, I will not fight that either. In any case, I am sorry. I can explain more if you want me to elsewhere. I had thought it was okay, I was even given the impression it was okay by an admin who took part in it, but now that things have been brought to my attention, I realize it is not okay, and so, I realize that if I do not follow the rules, I do not get to vote now. Beyond anything else by far, awards have been my Achilles Heel on this site; especially when I have the desire and will to get one, but lack the real-life time and devotion to this site to unquestionably deserve one.

The fellowship on this site is worth more than 100 awards, and I would be a fool to jeopardize it. I know that simply apologizing and bowing out of voting does not undo what I did, but it does bring down a punishment on me. Now, it is not for me to pick my punishment, but in any case, it is my wish to simply bow out of voting this year, regardless, as I clearly did not have the right approach to it.

I accept responsibility for my actions. I only ask that I may still be among you, and that you know that as soon as I realized that what I did was wrong, I admitted it right here, and asked to be disqualified from this vote. Thank you.

Yay! It's time to vote again. OK, let's start:

~Fanart Award
LBTFan has some really great drawings of the gang. Malte's embroidery looks amazing as well and it progresses really well. :yes Mumbling's sculptures of Cera, Spike, Chomper and Littlefoot are also great to see and I hope she'll continue. =D
But my vote goes to Ptyra for keeping us updated with a lot of new drawings of her own LBT characters. She may have posted more artwork this year from sketches to finished pictures than other artists together.

~Feedback Award
I vote Pangaea for the feedback award. He practically knows everything about dinosaurs and is always giving feedback to almost everyone on the fanart section, whether it's fanart or fanfiction.
He always replies to my artworks and pointing all the flaws I did on a picture. :yes Seeing those flaws makes me definately better at drawing someday. :D

~Friendly Member Award
The friendly member award goes to our friendly member Kor. =)
He's always neutral and helps people out as good as he can. He has his feelings under control and I have never seen him angry at somebody or something.

~Helpful Member Award
Caustizer may helped me out a lot of times without even knowing it. :p My works even inspired him to write an awesome story about my characters which keeps me going.
He's practically the reason why I'm back into LBT. He helps me by keeping me motivated to work on more LBT works than last year and is always replying on my works giving me contstructive criticism. I think I made myself a really good friend here. :yes

~Philosopher Award
Skipped - Heh, it looks like I'll be skipping this one as I always stay out of "meaningful" topics... which is actually dumb of me. D:

~Proactive Award
pokeplayer984 keeps the LBT section alive with lots of new topics to discuss about the LBT world including reviews from the movies and selfmade videos. :DD

~Project Award
My vote for the project award goes to action9000. He's been working on the LBT multiplayer game for so long now and hasn't given up yet even when he had a rough time in his life.
His endurance is something I really admire. :wow

~Role Play Gamer Award
Skipped - I wasn't active on the RP section to give a good reason for an award. =/

The Friendly Member Award -   Chiletrek : This person posts often to the welcome threads and helps to make folks feel welcome and his posts are also friendly.  I have enjoyed reading his posts and feel he is a very friendly person by nature.

Helpful Member Award -   LBTFan13 : This member posts detailed and helpful posts in the postings I have seen, with helpful posts and feedback among some of their posts that I have seen.  This member and Littlefoot1616 have made informative posts that help and support the other members, though Lbtfan13 has done more of them and with some suggestive and helpful detail, but not to much.

Proactive Member Award -   Petrie : He has started the forum as well as starting the most threads to The Rock Circle area of the forum and is the head admin as well as doing things behind the scenes that most of us likely do not see.

Projects Award -   action9000 :  This member has been working on a video game for lbt fans to play in as well as being the original person in charge of the singing project some members enjoy being involved with as well as being involved with the singing projects he was not in charge of running and starting as well.

Philosopher Award -   Malte : His posts tend to be very lengthy and detailed with quite a bit of information contained within the post.  He has also posted his thoughts and feelings in varous areas on various topics.

Feedback Award -   Pangea : Pengea's feedback, especially in the artwork section, in the ones I've seen at least, has been detailed with interesting information, with suggestions and tips at times, without being to long and lengthy.

Role Play Gamer Award -   Nick22 : He runs and is gm of both of the threads I am having the most fun in as well as the ones that seem most active, with the insane cafe running for a very long time across 4 different chapters / parts so far.  He can also roleplay a number of characters at the same time with skill and with them seeming to be different people and beings.  Though there are others I have had fun rping with in the past and present, to many to mention by name since I may accidentally leave some out.

Fanart Award -   Ptyra : While there are many folks who's artwork I enjoy, to many to name here since if I did I would likely accidentally leave some folks out, her artwork has been interesting to see and she posts with some regularity.  The artwork is decently detailed and while some are colored, even the sketch ones are interesting to look at and see.

Before posting my next vote I must confess a very embarrassing mess up of contemporary history :confused
Somehow I had projected the creation of the Rock Circle back into the year 2008 and therefore not mentioned and considered it in my vote for the Proactive Award. Indeed this has been an initiative for which Adam deserves great credit and which really ought not to have gone so unmentioned :oops

The Helpful Member Award is one for which I feel we have many members who well deserve this award and much will come down to individual decisions which are not always easy. Austin landbeforetimelover is always ready and willing to help, especially when people have computer troubles of any kind (however, he has already announced he won't participate in the vote).
Kor has always been very ready and helpful when it comes to providing pictures. For the creation of this year’s awards Iris and Gustav (Mumbling and Lillefot) have both been very helpful when it comes to providing pictures.
LBTFan13 too has often been very helpful and concerned in GOF matters :yes
For me personally there has been one act of helpfulness which goes beyond the uploading and downloading of pictures or information. The fact that the helpfulness came in reaction to a “wanted – reward” kind of call from my end did not change the fact that it took more trouble for the helper than the ordinary every day kind of helping does. Moreover, if this one single act of helpfulness is not enough the member I am thinking of has generally been very helpful when it comes to providing pictures or videos. Among many who are really worthy candidates for the Helpful Member Award I pick John, pokeplayer984.

It is going to take time for me to pick whom among the members deserves the awards.  However, one I cannot give is the Role-Playing Award due to the fact that I never go to that part of the forum.

So, with that out of the way, let's start with one I am confident with right now.

Fanart Award ~ For this one, I pick Iris, Mumbling.  Her artwork is just amazing.  I just love her drawings and her recent sculptures of The Land Before Time Characters are just incredible.  I just adore her work and for this reason I nominate Mumbling for it. :)

I'll get to the rest later.

Title: Member Awards 2010 - Voting open
Post by: Alex on June 06, 2010, 08:49:39 PM
Well at first, I didn't think I was gonna give any votes. Felt kind of overwhelmed, had to read the rules and such, and I had no clue who to vote for, and all that. But!, I think I've overcame my hesitancy. So, here we go. And y'all need to tell me if I do something wrong.

Fanart: To be honest, I've never looked at that much fanart. You know, mabye a few passive glances at our artists, when I have the spare time. But for good measure, I went and looked back at a number of their works, and I feel obliged to vote for Mumbling. She draws wonderfully. Not only that, but I took into account that "art" is a lot more than drawings. And those little sculptures she does are pretty sweet.

Feedback: This one was a lot easier than the others. You could write two sentences, and Pangaea could give you feedback of several paragraphs. So obviously, I have to give my cote to him. And feedback is sometimes taken for granted. I mean, what is a forum without feedback? Just a bunch of people posting new topics. No replies. Empty polls. So this category may just be the most important.

Friendly Member: I hated this category! I had like four people who've only ever been exceptionaly friendly to me. Before I say who my vote is for, I want to mention action_9000, Rat_Lady7, and Darkhououmon. Very friendly people. Thanks for being friendly to me. Especially Tim. Good guy like you doesn't deserve what you've been having to go through. I hope you get past all that mess real soon. But, my vote, once again, has to go to Mumbling. She's always real nice to me, even when it's evident that she's not in the greatest mood. And you know, friendli-ness, it's an important category for me, 'cause I'm a d--k, and I'm not very friendly to many people. So I appreciate it a little more.

Helpful: I vote Darkhououmon for the helpful member category. All of her posts are good natured, and just have that "supportive" overtone to them. I mean, she gave me Digimon advice.  :exactly

Philosopher: Pretty obvious, this one...can't really think of much to write for it, but here goes. Malte279 is basically a modern day Aristotle. Not just 'cause of his post's word count! 'Cause of his vocabulary too! A person above me (or on the first page) said his posts "induce deep thoughts", or something, which more sounds like an acid trip, but I'm gonna go with that too.

Proactive: This vote was a sure-fire thing, and then the boss reminded me that he made the Rock Circle thing..which I really like, it's a good idea. So, you know, I want to vote for both of them, but I'm going to have to vote for Rat_Lady7. She directly jump-started a new section in the forum, which has like 25 people participating in it. And that's not mentioning the individual thread's she's made. And proactive is more than that. She's pro-GOF, and she actively posts in basically all threads. And there you have it.

Project: Last one, thank god..I'm breaking a sweat with all this typing. My vote for the project award is for action_9000. His work on the GOFLBTRPG..just..wanted to type it like that..is nearly unwavering. And you know, working on something a lot isn't really justification, but if you'll look at how great the work is, then it's justified. I love this project, and wish I could do more to help it, but if I can't, I atleast know it's in good hands. Which brings me into an honoranle mention, who is Mumbling. There's a reason that she's getting just about most of the votes for the project award, also. She's a very close second, in my opinion.

Alright I think I got them all, 'cept for the Role Playing one, which I'm not qualified to vote in. I hope I justified my votes enough for them to be valid.

Yes, please change or edit the votes for me. I was led to believe something was true when it was not, and instead of trying to stay on in the votes, it is better for me to bow out this year. If I did NOT leave the voting this time, I would have been in trouble, and things might still be problematic even so.

This also means my votes should be canceled, too.

I am touched to hear it, LBT. I know this comes as a totally unexpected surprise for many of you. Like... a basketball player leaving the sport for a time to play golf instead.

In any case, I was already given an award this year, although it was by a different means (the highest forum racing award), and it was for something I actually did, not just what people think about me (based on fact rather than opinion), so I am happy with it.

I dropped out because a rule was not followed on my part, although I was led to believe it was within the boundaries of the rules by an admin. When I learned it was not, despite his sanction, I realized that I should just not participate in the vote this year, because of that. Think of it as being disqualified from a soccer match because I did something against the rules, even though a referee led me to think it was okay. Note that it was as likely to be an error on his part as much as anything else, not a concerted effort to do something contrary to the rules, an error I also bought into.

Now that I know better, the only responsible thing for me to do it to just not take part, so the consequences of this stupid fiasco don't affect the voting results.

To be fair, there was a good chance many of the voters would have voted for me in the role-playing category anyway, and I might very well have come away with a 2nd place award (runner-up) for philosopher (something I did not expect) but it doesn't matter now. Yes, I know I had been looking forward to this... for seven months. In the last five months, real life has forced me to re-prioritize things.

As for the people who still want to vote for me (like LBT), I will not re-enter unless all four other admins who did not mislead me tell me it is okay, and even then, I have no enthusiasm for the contest this year.

But, for everyone who voted for me under the RIGHT circumstances, I thank you all VERY much.

Title: Member Awards 2010 - Voting open
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on June 09, 2010, 05:40:47 AM
Hey gang!

Reckon it's about time I got my votes in. So here are my nominations for this year's GOF awards:

Fanart - This section of the forum just goes to show the blossoming talent that many of our members have amongst other pieces of fanwork (e.g fanfictions etc.). There have been a huge amount of great pieces that our members have put a lot of time and effort into. Ptyra has been a great example of how skill and artistic talent can progress and develop and has since produced some wonderful pieces. Still, one artist continues to astound me with his artistic pieces and that is Sky. His creation of the Wingtails and digital illustrations of Caustizer's fanfic "Far Away Home" are just subliminal. Alongwith his other pieces showing various members of the original cast and others still amazes me. Sky gets my vote but well done to all those who have contributed to this forum's outstanding fanart collection :D

Feedback - It's not always easy to offer criticism that is both eye-opening and detailed yet reserves personal feeling and construct. A true skill of an open-minded individual that offers helpful advice whilst pointing out what could be improved without sounding condescending or insulting. Whilst quite a few have always pitched in to offer his/her two pence worth, I feel that Pangaea seems to do it best. Always offering to overlook or review a piece of artwork or a new idea for a fanfic, Pangaea is pretty much always front and centre, willing to offer constructive criticism that shows room for improvement whilst congratulating a member on their effort without being patronising. Not just with fanwork, pretty much any topic, be it personal or trivial, he's always straight in there giving truthful and honest opinions whilst taking careful consideration of others and their ideas. Well done Pangaea, my vote is for you ;)

Friendly Member - Uff...*sighs* Boy! This is a tough one! What currently active posting member on the GOF ISN'T friendly?! This is a doozy of a category coz everyone does their very best to ensure that the GOF is a warm and welcoming community and all new admissions are always guided by the hand and encouraged to join in wherever they feel comfortable. And with the influx of new members since the turn of the year, it's made things even harder with more perfectly eligible candidates to pick from. After careful consideration (and believe me this has been a hard one to nominate just ONE person for) I will nominate Rat_lady7 for this award. It was difficult to single any one person out but I've found Rat_lady7 to be a true demonstrative member that shows just how warm and welcoming our forum can be. Always there to offer time and patience to a fellow member who needs to chat about something personal or just needs to natter for a bit and offers sound advice where needed. You can chat to her about anything and she remains unjudging and respectful always. She came up with the "How are you feeling?" page in the Fridge section that I reckon just about everyone has written in at least once and has clocked over 700 posts! And it still continues to roll. Well done Rat_lady7! Keep doing what you do best! :D

Most Helpful - Again! Another nasty category that is so darn hard to select only one candidate for. Everyone here, as well as being friendly, is also very helpful and is quick to rise to any requests any member has about... well... anything! LBTLover would be a prime candidate in my books for this award for his constant sourcing of LBT material through his own websites and eagerness to assist were necessary. Sadly, since he is not running for nomination this year I've had to think even harder about this one. Members like Cancerian Tiger, Kor, pokeplayer984 and Pangaea (to name but a few of many members) all pounce on the opportunity to help someone out when need arises making the selection process even harder (thanks a lot guys :p :DD). Still, I feel that DarkHououmon stretches just that little bit further. She's always willing to help someone out and prepared to go to lengths to ensure a requesting member gets what they need. Anything from artwork, movie clips, pictures, she's a gold mine for it all. Thanks for your support DarkHououmon and everyone who has ever offered me assistance with something. My gratitude to you all  ;)

Philosopher - Many a grander word be spoken by many a member here. Truly inspiring words from a wonderfully diverse mindset of people from many different backgrounds and worldly point of views. Still, one voice has continued to speak out and preach to the masses (only ever in the most positive of ways ;) ) about LBT and of course, Beyond the Mysterious Beyond (Yeah I went there! More cheese than you can spread on a cracker but hey... had to be done :lol). I am undoubtably speaking of our very own Malte279. With more historical references than an encyclopedia on human history (and boy can he fill you in on some stuff! The lectures I've had... sheesh! :smile :p), Malte is not only as friendly as he is historically accurate, but his pearls of wisdom and depth of conversation on any topic is always meaningful and thought-provoking (LBT or otherwise). As most of you will agree (perhaps not always with him but agree nonetheless), Malte has a deep and unbiased view on just about anything and is never afraid to share those gems when necessary. ;)

Proactive - Now, with so many people coming up with new ideas for the forum, it's tough to once again single someone out over the mass of great ideas we've had in the past. SouthPawRacer's "Forum Racing" Game was a huge success and spawned a great number of responses for the game section. The addition of the "Ask Me" section was a wonderful ice-breaking area where members could get to know each other on a personal level whilst maintaining the friendly aura of the forum. The "Caption This" section has seen an explosion of new material and some pretty darn funny captions to boot. That being said, I still feel that Petrie has made some huge improvements to not only how the forum is run, but how it is perceived. His inclusion of the Rocky Circle open community section has allowed members to have more power and more of a direct say in how we as admins bring about change on the forum. He genuinely wants the forum to be a place where all members can communicate freely and openly with each other and bridge the somewhat daunting gap between "us" the admins and "you" the members to help us all realise that we are ALL members first and our ranking status second. Nice one boss! My vote's for you!  :D

Project - With so many different ideas floating around, members of the GOF are always looking at new ways that they can expand their creativity skills and make something new. DarkHououmon's impressive catalogue of fan made movies are always a delight to view and Action9000's on-going endeavour to get us our hugely ambitious LBT MMORPG from a string of coding into a playable article is a feat to behold in itself. Alongside that, his right hand man, or lady in this case, has always been in support of Action9000's LBT game project but has also found time to include some works of her own. My vote is for Mumbling for her undying, never ending commitment not only the LBT game project, but for introducing the GOF into areas like DeviantART and creating the LBT Fan Club. Her campaign to get the LBT movies translated to her native language and her fansite, that we were more than happy to affiliate with, are all signs of her laborous commitment and unwavering enthusiasm for all thing LBT. Well done and thanks again Mumbling :D

Role Play Gamer - Despite being a fanfic author myself, sad to admit but RPGing is a factor of fandom that I personally have never really been into. In light of this fact, I feel I cannot vote within this category purely because I hardly know who is responsible for what and what achievements they have accomplished (which I'm sure all have managed to achieve by one means or another). Congrats guys and gals. Keep on RPGing and my apologies for being unable to select one of you. :(

Those are my votes guys. I wish you all the very best of luck! Hope you get the awards you're gunning for ;)

The Philosopher Award is often difficult to figure out and every time making up ones mind about this one requires a lot of rereading. One member who I found posted most interesting posts throughout the last year, especially in land before time discussions with Pangea and The Friendly Sharptooth (both of whom are very well deserving of credit in the Philosophical department as well) is Almaron. It is a pity that we haven't heard so long from you Almaron (but I am happy that you are still visiting the GOF and hope to read more of your really interesting posts again). Sam f-22 "raptor" ace started a good number of historical threads which I found most interesting to read and participate in. Rat_Lady7, pokeplayer984, and Kacie DarkHououmon too are frequent starters and contributors to very well thought through threads. One aspect about many threads in the GOF which I found interesting with regard to the Philosophers Award is that often members found interesting contents or materials made by others which were suited to provoke discussion in the GOF. Examples are the LBT movie reviews linked to the GOF by pokeplayer984, the articles on the original movie found and linked to the GOF by Flathead and the contributions of Pikkutassu about outcut land before time scenes (I really hope that they will show the Finnish movie versions which includes the outcut scenes again).
A decision between all of these really worthy candidates cannot go without some arbitrariness as I cannot name one of them as writing more interesting contributions than the others. My final decision is based on the fact that on the one hand threads on history are relatively rare on the GOF on the other hand because I personally am very interested in them. For this reason among the many worthy candidates I pick Sam f-22 "raptor" ace for the Philosopher Award.

Sorry for taking so long to vote (You know me; I take time to make decisions, especially when it’s vital that I explain them :p). I am not yet certain of my nominations for the Projects Award and Helpful Member Award (if I vote in them at all), but here are the others:

Feedback Award: It is perhaps ironic that the individual I am nominating for this category is the same member who has repeatedly and emphatically expressed his appreciation for the feedback I have left on HIS work. However, I honestly consider Caustizer to be an expert giver of feedback in his own right. His reviews for Twilight Valley, for example, were so thorough and well-put that I didn’t think Serris needed my input for anything other than proofreading. He also has a talent for identifying and instilling meaningfulness in things. I once suggested a name for a prospective OC to him, and he immediately told me what he perceived the name to imply about the character; details which I was completely unaware of even being present. As far as I am concerned, he probably contemplates aspects of fanfictions as much or more than I do, and I feel that he is definitely worthy of a nomination in this category. :yes

Proactive Member Award: I knew who I was going to nominate for this award weeks in advance; a member who has introduced an astounding number of brilliant threads and ideas to the GOF in her relatively short tenure here. In the last year alone, these have included the “In The Land Before Time” RP, the “How are you Feeling?” thread, and the ever-popular “Ask Me” series, all of which I have immensely enjoyed both reading and posting in. I wish I could be a tenth as proactive as this member, who is, of course, Rat_lady7.

Role Play Gamer Award: This is a slightly problematic category, because I am not very active in the Role Play section, and have read almost none of the recent RPs. However, in the one RP I am active in, I have come to particularly enjoy the posts of Cancerian Tiger. They are incredibly detailed, interesting and entertaining to read, often quite humorous, :lol and clearly have a lot of work and thought put into them. Moreover, she always seems to have something good to post even when the RP is going slowly, and has possibly done more to keep it running than any other participant.

I’d also like to give an honorable mention to the abstaining nominee Noname, one of the few members whose role playing exploits outside “In The Land Before Time” I know anything about. In a PM conversation of ours, he mentioned that he was playing in six ongoing RPs. That, in my eyes, takes dedication. :wow

Philosopher Award: I’m taking a cue from Malte279* (who looks certain to earn yet another award in GOF Philosophy this year :p), and nominating a member who may not prevail in this category, but whom I firmly believe should be given her due. In my eyes, DarkHououmon has been very proficient at making clear, concise analytical posts, often on controversial topics, firmly stating her opinions while taking care not to offend other people. Her points are well explained but not excessively long, and easy to understand (all of which I have perpetual trouble with :p). Time and again Kacie has amazed me by pointing out something about a topic that I probably would not have noticed on my own, but which made absolute sense once she had brought it to light. She has also shown herself to be quite good at introducing thought-provoking ideas to a discussion (particularly in the numerous PM conversations we have had).

Malte at least deserves an honorable mention in this category, as does Almaron (It’s a shame his visits to the GOF are so sporadic, given the quality, thoroughness, and stimulating his posts are.

*specifically, his nomination for the Fanart Award

Fanart Award: This is a challenging category, because the GOF has so many fantastic artists (Sky, DarkWolf91, Malte279, DarkHououmon, Mumbling, and LBTFan, to name just a few) whose respective styles and areas of talent are individually unique and therefore incomparable to one another (in my opinion, anyway). My nomination, therefore, relates to the level of personal involvement I have had in the artist’s work. I started reviewing this member’s art thread in late December 2009; since then she has posted over a hundred pictures (including alternate and edited versions and works in progress), nearly all of which I gave her feedback on. Time and again her artwork has made me gape, laugh, and smile, and even tickled my tear ducts on at least one occasion. If you page through her art thread, you can see the phenomenal amount of development her artwork has undergone. I hope she continues to produce art, and perhaps broaden her horizons a bit (though seeing as most of her work relates to her fanfiction, which centers around flyer characters, I consider it understandable that they are the primary focus of her art). I feel honored to have been involved in Ptyra’s growth as an artist. :yes

Friendly Member Award: This could be the most difficult category of them all. There are so many kind and courteous people contributing to its warm and welcoming atmosphere of the GOF, that isolating the largest source of this cordiality is like identifying the body of water whose evaporation spawned the largest cloud in the sky. However, by excluding members I have already nominated for other categories, and those with whom I have had little personal interaction, and focusing on ones who have not yet received much voting attention, I have narrowed it down to Saft. In every post of hers I have seen, and every PM conversation we have had, she has been nothing but polite, compassionate, and sympathetic. She is always respectful and concerned for those around her, and strongly conscious about not making others annoyed or upset.

I would also like to give an honorable mention to The Friendly Sharptooth, with whom I have regrettably had only a few brief conversions, but who has always been impeccably polite and considerate.

Well, most of my choices have been difficult (save one  or two :p ), but it's time for me to cast my votes

Project Award
The only project I've loosely followed was the online RPG that is updated by Action9000. The idea was brilliant, and I would have thought it would have been impossible to achieve. But I was wrong. While I have yet to play the latest version, I was delighted by what I COULD play, even though it was just a flying cube.

Role Play Gamer Award
Despite being in an RP with No Name for a very short time and only got as far as formulating new ideas, he has also sparked some ideas for my LBT fan fictions in my discussions with him

Friendly Member Award
Now, there are lots of really friendly people on this board. I can't LIST them all. However, there's one person who's really stood out to be a friendly person, through numerous PMs both here and on dA. That member is Jrd88.

Helpful Member Award
I owe SO MUCH to Pangaea. Of all the critics I have met, Pangaea is my favorite. He's straightforward with his reviews and brings out the positive and the negative of my works. From that, he helped me to grow and improve as an artist. I feel so obliged to him for this.

Philosopher award
Of course, this one was extremely hard to pick. There are so many people here who have REALLY gotten the gears in my mind buzzing like a swarm of bees. For me, it would have to be Malte. I really feel like I'm learning something in his "lectures", especially during the summer when I'm out of school, and it helps me to look at the world and the minds of people in different ways

Fanart Award
Hm. Naturally, I'd like to vote for myself, but I don't think that would be right. While I am extremely proud and happy with my growth as an artist (thank you again, Pangaea), I think I might have to put Malte forward again...mostly because his fan art expands over a very broad variety of categories, but also because his latest cross-stitch gave me warm fuzzy feelings, thinking about my grandfather's cross-stitching (That can sometimes be confused with an extremely shiny painting)

~Fanart Award

With the limited amount of time I spend viewing fanart, my vote goes towards someone I know to be taking on a new form of art that she has shown much success with so far!  I'm curious how her work will continue in the future and I'm really happy she's enjoying this new artistic path.  I nominate Mumbling for her recent clay work, as well as her LBT photography, which is contributing towards a website/database of LBT items.

~Feedback Award
While I haven't posted much outside of the LBT game topic that 'requires' feedback, there has been a strong trend towards Pangaea as a recipient of this award.  Based on my readings, I have seen plenty of reasons to nominate Pangaea, who never seems to miss a beat when it comes to giving that boost of confidence or support, no matter what the task is!

~Friendly Member Award

Where do I even start with this? There are too many candidates to honestly pick one! Malte279, not only were you outstandingly hospitable when I came to visit you around Christmas, you've been firm with me when it was necessary and there to listen anytime I needed it.  I can say something similar for a few people here, which is why I don't like this award very much, but I'm going with you, Malte, for consistently being you since the day I met you, back in 2005, no matter what life has thrown you. You're genuine and everything one can hope for in a friend. :)

~Helpful Member Award

Talking off the GoF for a moment, I have to go with Mumbling who honestly has been more than incredible to me these past few months, helping me through literally the worst time in my life.  She's part of the reason I'm here on the gof, posting LBT game updates and writing these votes today.  I can't show you how much you've done for me, Iris, but at least I can put you down for some public "hey, thanks for being awesome! :D " Thank you!

~Philosopher Award

I am not taking part in this award.

~Proactive Award

The Rock Circle?  This is exactly what a forum of this style needed and Petrie Was right on the ball with this.  Bridging the gap between admins and members is a great way to encourage a closely-knit community to continue doing so, no matter how large it grows and this has been executed nicely.  I hope to see more of you around, Petrie, but your wonderful organization around the board, planning even for extended times of absense, is not to be forgotten.

~Project Award
For great variety and dedication to LBT projects, I vote Mumbling.  Not only has she been an incredible asset to our game project itself(it wouldn't be what it is without her, believe me!), but she has been doing promotional work for it, as well as her own complete projects at the same time!  I feel lazy just looking at how much she's doing for LBT and I believe that deserves something. ;) :p

~Role Play Gamer Award

I am not taking part in this award.

The friendly member award is certainly the most difficult one to decide about and I must stress my interpretation of it as credit to one member for his or her friendliness rather than suggesting the member’s friendliness to surpass that of anyone else. There is not much of a criterion for exclusion because outright acts of unfriendliness are a very rare exception at the GOF while friendly and respectful attitudes are the norm. Jason Littlefoot-1616 is seriously so friendly and goodnatured a person that knowing him might make you think better of mankind as a whole (if THAT person is a human, then the rest can’t be THAT bad :smile). However, perhaps I found one kind of criterion of exclusion after all. Not all of our members who deserve credit for their friendly attitute participate in the kind of threads where their friendliness is put on a test. It is good, but comparatively easy, to be friendly in a thread where you agree with everyone and everyone agrees with you. In complex threads where some participants may strongly disagree with you the patience, friendliness, and respect of a member is seriously put on the test. Not for the first time I must point out my great respect and admiration for Anna under such preconditions. She often participates in potentially “loaded” threads, she does take her stand and presents her opinions, but while doing so she always shows respect for other opinions and friendliness and (where necessary) patience with those who present her opinions. This has always impressed me and for this my vote of the Friendly Member Award goes to Anna, Cancerian Tiger.

I considered trying to read through the RPGs in which I do not participate hoping to be able to give a qualified vote in spite of not participating in them. However, it would take more time and leisure than I have at my disposal these days. So I do what I have done in the previous award votes and skip my vote on the Role Play Gamer Award.

Post by: The Chronicler on June 15, 2010, 03:15:25 PM
Seeing as I have nothing else to do today, I think it's time for me to cast my votes.

Fanart - Sky
I think the main reason why I didn't even mention Sky in last year's voting was because he had posted hardly any new fanart. This year is different. Not only has he drawn what the gang could look like as young teenagers, he is also planning to start a comic. I know he's made at least one failed attempt before, so I can't wait to see how he does this time. Ptyra definitely deserves some recognition for her very noticeable improvement in her fanart, even though nearly all of it features Flyers. LBTFan also deserves some recognition for his fanart, even though he seems to refuse to post here anymore.

Feedback - Pangaea
What can I say? Pangaea offers the best kind of feedback you could ask for. Be it fanart or fanfiction, he always talks about what he likes and points out the parts that could use improvement, making sure that it's always constructive. While some people might not like nitpicking, I do, be a perfectionist like him. When I first saw how he made reviews and comments for fanfiction, I quickly asked him to review my fanfic so I could improve it wherever it needed to be. I do not regret it one bit. If it hadn't been for him, my fanfic wouldn't be quite as good as what it has now turned out to be. So, for these efforts, I must cast this vote for him.

Friendly Member - Kor
Honestly, does this guy not even know what it's like to feel angry? Kor is always a nice guy, always posting in topics of importance, letting other members know that we always appreciate having them here. In one incident where another member cursed at him, I honestly couldn't see a reason why anyone would do that to him. As far as I can tell, the only posts he's ever made that even include an exclamation point would be in RP, while playing as different characters.

Helpful Member - Pangaea
For me, this one's a no-brainer. I asked Pangaea to help me improve my fanfic, and he did it. I honestly can't thank him enough for his efforts. He also help fanfic writers and fanartists on how to improve their works. I honestly, can't think of anyone else who deserves this award.

Philosopher - Malte279
Originally, I was going to give this vote to Noname, but seeing as he has decided to drop out this year, I'll have to chose someone else. I don't like putting it this way, but I see voting for Malte as pretty much a vote by default for this award. Having won this award three time already, I think it's obvious that he's not going to stop doing what he does best. As for why I would have voted for Noname, it's because in many discussions, he often takes the side in opposition to the side that most members tend to stand by, and points out the facts on his side without sounding like some crazy conspiracy theorist. Pangaea also writes long and detailed posts, but I'm not going to vote for him for this award. I just don't want to sound like I worship him by giving him more than 2 awards. (Besides, I don't want to add another member to what is now a 4-way tie. :p )

Proactive - Petrie
I'm sure there hardly anyone around here who's arrogant in any way, so for Petrie to vote for himself, there must be a big reason why. To tell you the truth, I had completely forgotten that the Rock Circle forum was only a recent addition, and was only reminded of it when Petrie voted for himself for this award. If I thought something so recent had been around for so long, then it's definitely a great addition to this place. Rat_lady7 also deserves some recognition for starting a topic that eventually inspired the creation of the Ask Me subforum.

Project - Mumbling
While the creation of the LBT online RPG is led by action9000, Mumbling has been offering a lot of assistance to this project. In addition, she also started the LBT Fan Club on DeviantART. And... I'm afraid I can't think of anything else to say here. :oops

Role Play Gamer - Kor
I'm still not much on RPs, but in the few that I have seen and participated in, there are always two people who seem to always be active at any time, Nick22 and Kor. I would like to cast my vote for one of them. I voted for Kor based on the quality of what he posts. On average, Kor posts about two, three, or four lines, while Nick only posts one line. Also, no offense Nick, but it would be a good idea to spend just a little more time to check what you wrote and fix any spelling errors before posting.

I'd like to add a vote that I had previously abstained from:

Helpful Member Award - I'm not the type of person who really needs help at the best or even the worst of times, but for those occasions when it comes anyway and makes a difference for me Pangaea has always been the greatest website companion anyone could ask for.  If you ask him a question, he gives you not only an answer but a comprehensive essay to boot.  This is probably the most obivous nomination I have done so far, so I can't believe that for this long into the vote I have forgotten to post it.

It looks like I don't have many votes to make this year.  This is mainly because I don't keep track of certain areas. :P:

Anyways, I thought for a bit about the Project Award.  It came down to DarkHououmon for her Music Videos and picking between Action 9000 and Mumbling for their joint project of the LBT RPG.  After some thinking, I have decided to settle upon DarkHououmon for her Music Videos.  I especially liked the little gift she gave me of a private file for her Music Videos. (Which reminds me.  I need to finish downloading them.) I cannot let a gift like that go unrewarded.

So, in short, I vote DarkHououmon for the Project Award.

Oh, and I seriously can't pick for the Friendliest Member Award.  There's just TOO much competition there. :P:

I have just been advised two change one of my votes, so I am going to do so.

For friendly member, award, I will give to someone I have known on the board for a long time. While opportunity for us to talk has been slim, I still love the conversations I have for her and getting the chance to talk about anything that comes up, either on here of MSN. Therefore, I give Rat Lady my vote.

Sorry about waiting so long to post. I've been busy with the college online course (Computer Technology). I also apologize if any of these votes are too vague. I have a hard time explaining things at times.

Friendly Member: Pangaea. It was hard to choose with this one, but I ultimately decided on Pangaea for his sometimes long but often friendly posts on GOF. He seems considerate of others and he is careful of what he says.

Proactive Member: Petrie. I feel his introduction of the Rock Circle has been helpful to the community of the GOF. In my opinion, the Rock Circle has allowed a more fair discussion and introduction of new things to the board.

Helpful Member: Pangaea. Through the PM system, he has offered me information to questions I ask of him. His information has been helpful to me. He has also been helpful to other members.

Projects: Action. Again it was hard to choose, but I picked Action for his work on the LBT MMORPG game. Him being the sole programmer, that's a lot of work put on his shoulders, but he seems to handle it well. A video game isn't easy to make. I look forward to future updates.

Feedback: I can't decide on this one.

Philosopher: Malte. He seems to understand the LBT universe well and has made some interesting posts in LBT discussions. Sometimes he makes points that I hadn't even considered before.

Role Play Gamer: I am unable to vote in this area because I'm not active in the roleplays.

Fanart: Ptyra. Although I haven't read her Pterano fanfic (or is it even up? I'm not sure) I do enjoy looking at the fanart she posts of it, as well as the other fanart she posts. The colorful pictures paint an interesting background story for Pterano.

Voting for the 2010 GOF Membership awards is now closed! Thanks to all who participated. But it's not over yet! There is still the Appreciated Member Award to go. Keep watching this space for the topic and the rules and regulations regarding voting on the Appreciated Member Award. Thanks guys! ;)
