Malte is correct; TV episodes do tend to be more vulnerable to cliches and jading than movies, since they need to be produced in greater numbers and their stories need to be more compressed.

I'm not against the idea of the LBT sequels having songs, but I don't really like the quality of many of the songs so far. One thing I really don't like is the goofy, bubbly modern-kiddie atmosphere prevalent in so many songs, because they feel out of place in a prehistoric world where dinosaurs roam the landscape. I think a more appropriate atmosphere would be similar to that present in The Lion King, Tarzan, or Dinosaur, with tribal drums and wooden flutes. I think they would fit more snugly into the prehistoric environment of LBT.

About realism in LBT:
If "sharpteeth" aren't allowed into the Great Valley, wouldn't the local ecosystem suffer? In real ecosystems, carnivores ensure that herbivores don't eat too much of the plant life. I wouldn't be surprised if the Valley foliage gets eaten up in a year or two, causing the herbivores to either starve to death or look elsewhere for food (now THAT would make a good sequel: The Land Before Time XIII: Search for a New Home)

I come to these forums as a fan of dinosaurs and animals, not as an obsessive LBT fan (though the first movie was neat IMHO). I also like Jurassic Park, the Lion King (especially Ed, arguably the greatest Disney secondary character in history), and Star Wars.

Not sure about new characters that they could realistically add...I recall starting (though never really finishing it) a LBT fanfic that included the hyenas from "The Lion King", but since the hyenas are Disney's intellectual property, I don't see them chasing the Gang anytime soon. I don't think anachronism would be a problem, though, since the LBT series is filled with lots of anachronisms anyway. 
(BTW, my fanfic has been cancelled until further notice. And, speaking of TLK/LBT crossovers, here's a nice songfic
here's a nice songfic which is an LBT-themed adaption of "He Lives in You", song by Bron; I think they should have used that song instead of "Me & My Dad".)
As for a plot...not sure, but hopefully they won't have too many bad songs. A few songs are okay, however.
