Since 2001, Disney had owned the rights to the Power Rangers, turning a once-great series into a mockery. The rights for Power Rangers were purchased from Saban by Disney at $3.2 Billion, and Saban bought them back for about $100 million.

The original producer, Jonathan Tzachor, is back, and 20 new episodes are in the works to begin with. To top it off, there is the possibility that there may be a new film.

Best of all, my sources are not wikipedia!

EDIT: Could someone please fix the extra "e" in the title? I was so excited that I misspelled it.  :slap

I'm glad to see that Saban has bought back Power Rangers and is bringing it back.  I miss the days Saban did it.

In all honesty, it did go downhill after Disney bought it, but I feel they did a good job with the RPM Series.  The plot alone made it worth it. :)

I can't wait for it to come on Nick.  I'll keep an eye on that channel for it. ;)

I hope it's done better then what Disney did with it.  Some seasons were interesting, or had interesting ideas, but overall I think Saban did it better.

For the first time since I was roughly 12, it is in the hands of the people who originally made the series. Let's hope they still have the magic they used to have, although we won't find out until the first quarter of 2011. That said, there will doubtlessly be information about an upcoming series before it is released.

At the very, very least, we will have 20 new episodes.

Hello:
That is the best news I have heard in all this day, even though I was told last night by Noname.
I really hope the new episodes will be good ones, maybe with a renewed air from plots and everything else.

Only time will tell.  I do hope they have good writing, directing, and pick a good cast.

I'll update this thread as soon as new details come in.

This is the best news in the entertainment field I've seen in a long time. It even raises hopes that the Land Before Time itself might be revived, if something similar can happen to another long-running franchise.

I do hope it works out for the best.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.   I do have some hopes it may be better.

What I loved about the saban era was that they looked at martial artists or gymnastics skill first before acting. Disney looked for actors who could be trained, while saban looked for those who had certain skills and could be taught how to act. This is certainly good news, so hopefully the fight scenes will be back to the quality of mighty morphing and zeo.

That would be nice, but they are likely thinking now.  For some tips we'd have to see what the Japanese series is like for this season to get some rough clues on the setting and such.

The current season has an angel motiff to it. Along with card themed weapons and such. The mecha/suit designs and even the team's name is a throwback to previous series.

There was another season before that, but I doubt they'd use it due to the very prevalent Japanese theme to it.

If they avoid using wire-fu and come up with interesting characters and plots I might get back into Power Rangers.

To me, the news isn't the best, I mean yes, Power Rangers were good, but I'm just not too sure on it myself.  Might watch it when it's shown on TV over here, just to see if it lives up to the original series or not.

I can't really see any previous actors coming back, unless for a cameo. I'm petty sure Jason David frank, the actor who played Tommy, is now involved in an mixed martial arts career. Also, other actors may have wanted to move on from power rangers. Otherwise, I'm sure johnny yong bousch willake an appearance one way or another

Yeah, but I wish she would at least come back for a cameo as Kimberly so she can explain herself with that "Dear John" letter she sent.  Seriously!  She broke Tommy's heart! :(

That would be a very, VERY overdue explanation. I can't believe that a 12-13 year-old reference would still be mentioned in such a series. In any case, if they bring back any of the old characters, it will likely be with different actors, given how long ago the old ones were.
