I've created a streaming music server that won't allow downloading, but will allow you to stream the music you want to other members.  It is exclusive and only the allowed members can access it.  You can all try it of course.  I've created a general guest account.

Username:  guest

Password:  guest

I will of course delete this account to keep the music available only to members later on.  Anyway, here's the server:

http://192.168.2.3:8081/

I thought we might be able to use this to share higher quality music clips cuz people can't download the songs.

Hmm, this may be useful.  I'm willing to give it a shot, to see how it works.

No, but anyone with Goldwave or a similar program can just capture the audio and save it in any format they want.  We will still need quality limitations, though we can probably be a little bit more liberal.

EDIT: The link doesn't work. 404.
Haha, I know why it doesn't work! :p

That's a 192.168 address.  That's a local address only.  Nobody outside of your network can see it.

Have you gotten it to work on a computer completely off of your network?  I don't see how that is possible.  192.168.x.x IP addresses are typically Always internal addresses only.  My networked computers are all 192.168 addresses in my network but that address doesn't give you access to them from anywhere :p

EDIT: I can put a computer on my network with that exact address if I want.  It will connect to it fine but you can't see it from anywhere else.

I found the problem.  I think I might need people's IP addresses to add them to the "allowed" list.  But I think I might have turned that security feature off.  Does the link work now?

Still not working.

I don't know how I can be expected to connect to your network without a path to it.
There are probably a million computers in the world with the address 192.168.2.3:8081 because anyone with a router could potentially have that address somewhere in their network.  The internet has no way to know it's looking for your server in particular.  You need a DNS host or at least some server software such as Apache running on the server in order to get it online.

according to my documentation, this is what it says about security:

Security
If you want to restrict one or more users to only be able to connect from a specified IP address, or if you want to keep all IP addresses except your own from logging onto your server, you can do that from the "Security" tab.
Right-click inside the ip access list to bring up a menu with the availible actions.

When you add a new access rule you must specify which user and what IP adress the rule should apply to. The IP address field accepts full IP addresss and wildcards. You also have to specify whether the rule should allow or disallow the user from logging on to your server.

and it also shows this picture:

Should I enter that to all users?

You need to know every member's IP address in order to use that then.

Okay, here's a question:
Is this software for use Only over a LAN, or can it stream across the internet?  That seems a bit odd...

I guess I could use this then:

It's meant for our purposes, let's just say that.  It is possible, I just need to figure it out.

Yeah, I think your'e on the right track.  Enter your IP in that box and see what happens.

I already did it.  If you give me your IP, I'll make a separate account for you to see if it works.  You can give it to me in a PM if you're worried about security here.

Just open it up to everyone for now, for testing purposes.  We'll deal with security later.

I don't think they have that option, at least, it doesn't have an option I can see and there's nothing in the instructions about opening it to everyone.  The security quote is the last thing you can do before activating the server and I've done everything before that perfectly.  I think I'll need everyone's IP who wants to join.

Hmm...not too sure I'm fond of everyone involved having to give up their IP to a master "keyholder"...I think we may need to go back to Plan A: Yousendit.

Can anyone try understanding these instructions?  I can't believe they'd make every member give out their IP.

Streaming is not something I'd consider especially with "higher bitrates" because it becomes expensive and may introduce buffer issues.  Plus, its pretty darn easy to record a stream.  That's specifically why I set a quality limitation.

Youtube I don't mind members using if it works better than yousendit or any other sort of download service.
