The Party Room / What Would They Do?

I'm sure he would sob his heart out.   :cry

What would Littlefoot do if he got a new step-brother/sister?

General Land Before Time / LBT sequel

X is my Favorite because Littlefoot meets his father. It's emotional, and I loved the fight with the sharpteeth. The solar eclipse was epic, it was just my Favorite LBT sequel and movie.
I actually watched it for the first time days ago, and was pleasantly surprised. :) After The Stone Of Cold Fire, I was hesitant to keep watching the sequels because I didn't enjoy The Big Freeze. But I'm glad I gave 10 a chance. It was a little more emotional than the others.
Seriously, "Best Of Friends" nearly teared me up... T__T

Aw snap, then I might be hated for saying: that's the only LBT I have left to watch before I'm caught up on the series - not counting the TV series... still have quite a few to go through... and I ordered it form my library :DD
Please don't hate meh!!
But looking at pic of actual Beipiasaurus' - aka the Yellowbellies - they are a pretty epic-lookin' saurian ;)
Here
Don't worry, I don't think we'll hate you for it! I will warn you, however, that the photo of the actual dinosaur is nothing compared to what you'll see in 13. I haven't seen the movie yet either (only bits and parts), but BEWARE!
Omg!  :!  How could they take something like that and turn it into something so ridiculous? No offense to any LBT yellow-belly-lovers, but still...yikes!

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Episode question
« on: April 08, 2015, 05:11:22 PM »
Quote from: DarkHououmon,Apr 7 2015 on  03:14 PM
There was an episode that revolved around the Hidden Canyon, which is a place that had a special fruit growing that repelled sharpteeth. I believe it was called The Hidden Canyon.

As for the supposed cameo, I have my doubts that it's Pterano and Petrie's dad. I think they're just a couple of other pteranodons. It's common for LBT to use similiar designs for characters of the same species. Look at Littlefoot and Ali, or Petrie and his siblings. Ali looks similar to a Littlefoot recolor (at least in LBT 4), and Petrie's siblings look like recolors of him. Then there's Ducky and her sisters, and they also look like recolors of her.

So just because that pteranodon looks like Pterano doesn't mean that it's actually him.
Yeah, I didn't think so - it didn't make sense that they would have brief cameos in the episode when they (or at least Pterano) were such prominent characters. Speaking of which, I'm gonna go see if I can find that episode. X)

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Episode question
« on: April 07, 2015, 03:49:37 PM »
I read on The Land Before Time wikia that Petrie's dad and Pterano make an appearance. There's a picture, if you scroll down to the gallery, with two Pterosaurs that someone seems to think are Pterano and Petrie's dad - yet on Petrie's wikia page, it states that his father is never seen, even in the original movie.
Even so, I'm curious to find out. What episode do these two flyers appear in? Below the image, it says something about a "Hidden Canyon," but I don't recall ever hearing about this place. XP
Can anyone tell me?

Character Discussion / Petrie's blind defense of Pterano
« on: April 05, 2015, 12:18:41 PM »
I agree also with Mumbling's point - I'm sure Petrie probably subconsciously saw Pterano as a father figure, even though of course he referred to him as uncle and saw him as such. Petrie's also pretty young, so it makes sense that his admiration for Pterano would blind him to things that older people would see as obvious.
Actually, having re-watched the movie, I forgot about his line that went something like, "It not his fault others not know how to fly away!" Now that struck me as above-average blind! Was watching it with my brother and we almost gasped, lol - totally forgot he said that. XD
Take all these together: he hadn't seen his uncle in a long time, Pterano charmed Petrie and his siblings with stories of (supposed) adventure and bravery, as it's been pointed out Petrie probably saw Pterano as a father figure...All of this combined would easily lead a young flyer to think the best of Pterano, no matter how much evidence was put against him.

Even so, I really can't argue with the fact that Petrie held out in Pterano's defense for a long time.
Guess he really didn't accept the reality of his uncle's actions until the end of the movie.

Episode Discussion / Return of the Lone Dinosaur
« on: April 04, 2015, 09:33:50 PM »
(Is it ok that I brought this back to the first page?)

I watched this for the first time about a week ago, and was pleasantly surprised. :) I thought they did a great job of keeping Doc in-character (that is...aside from the singing at the end, which I honestly can't see the Doc from the 6th movie doing...) And, like everyone else, I was also surprised to learn that Doc's got a girlfriend. I didn't mind it, personally - actually I thought it was a nice touch. ^^ Dara seems good for Doc, haha.
I also love that Chomper is half the focus of the episode. Poor little guy was so afraid of the Lone Dinosaur finding him, and here Littlefoot takes his side over Doc's, who didn't understand the friendship between Chomper and the others.
Doc and Chomper in the same episode! I swear, all we'd need are Pterano, Rinkus, and Sierra and we'd have ourselves some kind of shindig :celebrate

I don't know if you mean if she captures his likeness well by that, but Ptyra is Pterano's daughter. Ada is his mate and Ptyra's mother.

This would be a good time to work on my latest revisions to the Ptyra story though, since I realized a lot in the story that doesn't fit Pterano's personality.
Basically, the update is "Pterano is better at being an uncle than a father."
Oh. In that case, she probably wouldn't be a good match for Pterano.    But I must have got the characters mixed up. I was referring to the Flyer who was widowed.  :)

Attic Treasures / What are you reading?

Did you read the ones written by Alan Dean Foster ("Dinotopia Lost" and "Hand of Dinotopia") Rachel? Those who are really good.
There are many others which I found to be of somewhat mixed quality (none really bad, but I don't recall having been utterly taken with one of them either).
I have! :) Outside of Gurney's own work, those two are my favorite Dinotopia books. They're very well-written, for being that they were done by a fan, and not Gurney himself.
Not to say that the stories can't be well-written if you're not the author, but I was pleasantly surprised that Mr. Foster had contributed so much to the world of Dinotopia without it seeming non-canon.
Alan Dean Foster does this remarkably well, imo. Sometimes I go back and re-read both the first and second book. :)

As far as the other, smaller stories, I'd have to agree with you on that one. Some of them stand out, and then again some of them just don't. I've always been fascinated by the fact that Gurney allows others to publish books based on the world he created (as long as he read and approves it, which I think he does...) But some of the things that authors write about in the books are hard for me to consider canon. And I have to admit, when I read something that I don't think would ever happen in the Dinotopia world, I secretly choose not to consider it canon - even if Gurney himself did approve of the book being published. XD

Attic Treasures / Favorite Harry Potter book
« on: April 04, 2015, 12:49:09 PM »
Goblet Of Fire and Prisoner Of Azkaban were - and still are - my favorites. :)
I agree with you on the 4th book, I got the same impression of it, like it was nothing we had yet seen in the stories.
The 3rd one appealed to me for the mystery factor, and of course the wonderful surprise with Sirius at the end (um, I'm assuming most people have read it by now, so I don't have to worry about using spoilers, right? XD )

Attic Treasures / Favourite Authors?
« on: April 04, 2015, 12:46:39 PM »
I completely agree, I read based on the book itself rather than who wrote it, regardless of how I do or don't like a certain author. ^^ But again, some authors I really do tend to like a lot of their work.

- J.R.R. Tolkien
- Richard Adams
- James Gurney
- Laura Ingalls Wilder (ok, I know these books are for younger readers, but they bring back such memories when I read them! I can't exclude Laura. XD )
- Randall Jarrel (sp?)

Attic Treasures / Watership Down

I've read it a few times, and am amazed each time. It's an extraordinary book, especially considering what it's about. I even got a few of my family members to read it, lol. Watership Down will always be on my Top 10 list!

Lately I've been re-reading some Dinotopia books - the ones not written by James Gurney. There are still a few more I want to get, but some of them are surprisingly hard to find (I've had the most luck on Amazon.) I love Dinotopia so much; I just wish it got more attention. -_-

Ptyra is gorgeous! I think you did an excellent job of giving feminine attributes to a Flyer. :D I'm not even sure how it's done, but you certainly accomplished it.
And she looks like a good match for Pterano, too.  ;)

That is absolutely beautiful. I can't tell you how in love I am with pencil and shading...And you know, movie scenes are definitely good for practice. :) It's how I start all of my first-time attempts, lol. Once you get the hang of it, you can draw the character(s) without a guide. ^_^

Character Discussion / Favorite Meat Eater
« on: April 04, 2015, 12:24:20 PM »
Chomper and Thud...although I voted for Thud.
Maybe after reading about him and having seen him in the series, he's grown on me (Thud, I mean.)

P.S. I, too, support the idea of Rinkus and Sierra being fisheaters. Their teeth and beaks were made for it, buuuut, again it's one of those things we fans will have to speculate on. You could argue that Petrie's beak is also suited for catching fish, yet he's clearly a leaf-eater. He doesn't have teeth jutting out of his mouth (we see his teeth sometimes, but they're not sharp.) Still, Rinkus and Sierra have the teeth and all... XD I just choose to think of them as eating fish.
