In one of Lucario's posts, I wrote a passage from my essay I tried to write. Well, I am finished with it and here it is:

Brave New World Essay

ëIt was after midnight when the last of the helicopters took in flight. Stupefied by soma, and exhausted by a long-drawn frenzy of sensuality, the Savage lay sleeping in the heather. The sun was already high when he awoke. He lay for a moment, blinking in owlish incomprehension at the light; then suddenly remembered-everything.’-Page 230; Chapter 18

This passage explains how the Savage tries to leave the “Other World” and finds an abandoned light house to live in. John Savage performs self-destructive acts such as whipping himself so he tries not to think about Lenina and tries not to enjoy himself. He receives attention from a few Delta Workers, who are able to contact a few reporters, but John tries to attack one of them with his whip, and the reporters go back to the “Other World”, with a filmed capture of the Savage with his whip. A film with that scene is made and John later gets attention from “adoring” fans. They all chant, “We want the whip!” When he sees Lenina nearby, coming out of a helicopter, he calls her a strumpet and tries to whip her as he sings, “Orgy-porgy”. The crowd of fans join John in his insanity. Lenina is able to get back in the helicopter for safety, but outside of it, everyone goes wild and they are indulged with soma that many of the fans brought with them. Out of insanity and of the energy of the crowd, John Savage turned to be just like the “civilized people” and in the end he became distraught because of what he had done.

The passage seems to suggest that even though the Controller in chapters 17 and 16 kept saying how the government was able to abolish sadness, disease, pain, tears, and all sorts of negative things that would fuel “instability”, there is pain and suffering anyway. It is everyone’s nature to have emotions, whether they are negative or positive.  Here however is an example of how someone who was so sane, so true, and naturally human became exactly what society wanted him to be and the result was unhappiness.

I think the fate of the Savage should be mentioned (he hangs himself at the end).

I don't think the Savage really has a last name.

I know he hangs himself, but I didn't want to be off topic with the passage I wrote :p so that's why I didn't add that fact.
