I really don't see the purpose for WEP encryption. It's designed to keep hackers and other people off of your wireless network so they can't gain unauthorized access to your computers, but it really doesn't work. I mean, if the people who want to get into your computer know how to hack the computers, they're also gonna know how to hack the wireless router encryption. The only real purpose I can see is in a public place like a school. They might have limited bandwidth or something and don't want the internet to be used for things such as games and other things like that with no real educational purpose. I for one don't encrypt my wireless network. Why bother? I have unlimited bandwidth and if hackers want to download my LBT stuff, let 'em.

but what if they download other, incriminating things through your connection, thus binding those urls to your IP number?

That is easily traceable. You can tell exactly what computer connected to your internet and downloaded things. If you don't have that computer, you can't be held responsible for what was downloaded.

that wouldn't necessarily be true, one could destroy, move, or sell a computer before action was taken

I don't encrypt ours either. Nobody is close enough to reach it. They'd have to be sitting on our lawn.

So they could use it if they were to sneak in and hide within a fake bush?

That's about it.
Its not super strong. I'm practically above it and I only get a "good" signal strength.

Installing a wireless router is easy. Just connect it to your cable box. You don't even really need to set up the software or anything. Then you just install the software on you wifi adapters (or cards for laptops if they don't have integrated WIFI) and you're ready to go!
