Hey all!
We're all ready for the new singing project! :D
I'm posting up 4 different versions of the background music. Since this song has some vocal harmony parts, I created a version of the background music containing the melody of each part of the harmony. You're welcome to choose whichever one you want. If we're short on people singing a particular part, we'll ask people to pick that one.
There is also a version of the background music which has no melody within it. Some people may find this easier to sing to.
Anywho, here are the links! If you can get your voice recorded and sent over to me within about a month's time, that would be awesome :D
For anyone who isn't quite sure how this all works, the details on how we do singing projects are all explained here!
http://z7.invisionfree.com/thegangoffive/i...?showtopic=1506 (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=1362)
[EDIT]
Download the background music file that suits whatever you want to do. We have 4 different files here because this particular song has a lot of different vocal parts which one person cannot sing all at the same time. So we're just letting everyone pick one of the many vocal parts present in the song and sing along to that part. Assuming we get at least one person on each part, blahblahblah, this should work awesomely!
I hope this makes more sense. :p
Background music with High Vocals (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZNWX3L69)
Background music with Medium Vocals (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K50I6243)
Background music with Low Vocals (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q62EMJAG)

Sounds good. I am a bit confused with the 4 different music files but I suppose I'll just download them all and see which one I find easiest to sing to.
Oh and please Action, NOT Megaupload! Anything but that! You've gotta wait a full minute to download a file. I can understand if you don't want to use my server but driveway.com has proven it's worth. Megaupload is slow and a real pain in the butt. :p
EDIT:
Ah, Megaupload seems to have gotten better. It's about time! They've been the crappiest filesharing service on the web for as long as I can remember! :bang
-
Wish I could use driveway but they won't let me anymore!
Here's what it looks like on my computer when I try:
I'll also try to edit that first post so the multiple music files makes more sense. Sorry!
-
You need an account to upload to driveway. BTW, you can always upload any files you want to the Universal Upload Folder on my server. I don't delete anything in that folder unless it violates the terms of service or it's something I've uploaded and KNOW isn't needed anymore.
To provide a direct download link to a file on the server, simply replace the IP address with "lbtserver.2myip.net" and make sure the filename has no spaces. For example, use the name "Cool_Image_File" as opposed to "cool image file". If you want the filename to contain spaces just link to the directory where it's located "www.lbtserver.2myip.net/universaluploadfolder".
The reason filenames can't have any spaces is because my server doesn't give browsers a security certificate so if you try to download a file with spaces, you'll get an error. Here's a link to a filename with spaces. It'll give you a security error:

sweet. I'll start doing some recordings as soon as my parents are out of the house.
-
It's been so long since our last recording I forgot how to do it. :p Looked back at the topic and everything seems to be in order. Well, except for the fact that I need a decent mic. I used to have one, but with the move and all God only knows where it is. <_<
And I'm sort of embarrassed to admit this but I have to go back and watch LBT 7. I forget the words to the song. :p Ah what time will do. I haven't watched LBT 7 in....well...probably about a year. It's not my favorite sequel. :smile
-
I'm off for a few days, so it might be a week before I get to record anything... so wait for me ;)
-
Great. Now I just need a decent recording application. I'm pretty sure my built-in microphone will do the trick, but I tend to get alot of background noise in my recordings.
If I can't fix that, I'll have to skip this.
-
No worries, you're welcome to enter no matte what your microphone makes you sound like! :p :D
-
I will definitely start my recordings as soon as possible!
One question. Are we limited to one recording? Say I wanted to sing the melody as well as the harmony. Am I allowed to send you two recordings, or would you rather have us stick with one?
-
I'd prefer to only have each singer only sing one harmony part at a time for the final song, however you're welcome to send me/us :p as many recording as you want and we'll pick the best ones or use whichever ones you'd prefer us to use :D
As for the lyrics to the song, they can be found here on my website:
http://members.shaw.ca/action9000/Songs/mysteriousbeyond.htm (http://members.shaw.ca/action9000/Songs/mysteriousbeyond.htm)
-
Just a quick question Action.
Do we record the speaking parts e.g. Mr Threehorn's speech to the stegosaurus. "Friend's of yours?" , "Err...not really..." and the Male Rainbowface's part "For example if this enormous black..."
-
I don't mind either way, your choice :D
-
I did a test run on this and have sent Tim some tracks. Synching is going to be an issue I'll give you that given that there is a lot of talk-singing.

Hope that helps.
I'll try to have mine ready by next week. Until then, see ya! :)
-
I think I¥ll do three recordings then. One for the kids, one for the rainbowfaces and one for the speaking parts.
-
One little correction about the lyrics on your page Tim. They say at the very beginning "beyond the smallest lights that's twinkling" while it should be "out past the smallest lights that's twinkling".
I gave it a first try this evening and really messed up badly :lol
The sentence quoted above is an example of a bad tongue twister for the poor folks who are not used to "th", especially if it has to be sung so quickly.
However, the part that is giving me the worst trouble is the end.
After "Or maybe even higher" I must confess that I totally loose track on when to sing the "Trust in your own imagination". Is there a way to indicate that one a bit more before the clearly indicated "you are a part of the creation" in the background melody?
-
If you're not hearing that part of the song, be aware that it is only present in the "Low" version of the music. This is because that line is sung by the lowest voice in this section of the song. The medium and high parts sing different phrases in this song; they won't sing that line at all.
Does that clear anything up? :)
-
i've done 2 recordings so far, and they turned out pretty good so far, though im planning on trying to improve a bit before I start sending recordings out.
-
Is there no single version for the entire text this time?
Which parts of the lyrics are included in which version?
-
Sorry but I'm afraid I might have to drop out. See this topic for more details:

I¥ll do my recordings when my voice is better. Anyhow I seem to be a bit ill :p
-
Malte, I used the lyrics here: http://members.shaw.ca/action9000/Songs/mysteriousbeyond.htm (http://members.shaw.ca/action9000/Songs/mysteriousbeyond.htm)
I added in the speaking parts to my recording since the silence would just seem unnatural.
-
Yes Adam, those are the very lyrics where I pointed out the little mistake. It should be "out past the smallest lights that's twinkling" rather than "beyond the smallest lights that's twinkling".
But which parts of the lyrics are ascribed to the high, or the deep, or the medium voice? So far we always sang the whole songs in a single recording that had the voice accompaniment for all voices.
-
I'm back, so I'll start recording as soon, as I get the chance... gotta get the family out of the house first, before I do it.
-
We could make several files for the different lyrics to each part of the vocals if you wish, Malte. It's basically impossible to sing the entire song at one time unless you're a miracle or something :D There are parts where text overlaps so that doesn't work. So we broke it down to multiple layers.
@ landbeforetimelover - Don't worry, make sure you feel better in time :) If you still wish to join once you feel a bit more relaxed you're welcome to!
-
I'm stuck on which part to sing. I'm deciding between the High Part, which would be Littlefoot's part, or the low part, the male rainbowface. I might record two seperate recordings, one for each, and you can pick and choose which one you like better.
-
Sure do one of each :)
-
It's basically impossible to sing the entire song at one time unless you're a miracle or something biggrin.gif
Then I'm a miracle I guess. :p I did it three time in a row and you were there to see the results I sent Tim. :p
-
Aye, of course I was not thinking of singing the overlaping singing of the same lyrics, but I think that a version without the overlaping parts would be quite possible, but there the different accompaniement make things rather tricky.
-
Ah, wow! I'd love to take part in this, If I may. I think I'm also confused about which lyrics would go with which vocal parts... But I have a pretty okay microphone, anyways :lol
-
All right, I'm going with the Low version. Now if only I can remember those lyrics. (It's been far too long since I saw that movie. Then again, it's not my most favorite one.)
-
Aye, of course I was not thinking of singing the overlaping singing of the same lyrics, but I think that a version without the overlaping parts would be quite possible, but there the different accompaniement make things rather tricky.
Oh I know, I told Tim this was the hardest recording I did for these things.
-
Ok I've finished recording. Pretty much I sang the entire song, but when necessary I split to either the high part or the low part.
So basically you are getting two recordings of the entire song, only each one is specifically split to either the high part or the low part.
Now how exactly do you want me to send them?
-
I've tried to record my singing, and found it rather unsatisfying...
I there for would like to hear, if it was okay that I play it on the saxophone instead of singing.
-
just finnished up recording the high version. So we just PM the recording to you.
-
Recordings should be put on a site like yousendit.com and give the links to Tim so he can get them.
-
OK thanks Petrie. I'll send them right now :D
-
Ah, wow! I'd love to take part in this, If I may. I think I'm also confused about which lyrics would go with which vocal parts... But I have a pretty okay microphone, anyways :lol
It would be awesome to see another girl joining! :D
Sadly enough we do get more female members but stil only the males will take part in these... :p
We updated the list of members that want to sing and have sent the files to action :)
-
Man! It has been hard trying to find a more peaceful time to do the recording within the past month. Every time I try to do it, I end up getting background noise of either birds, crickets, the air conditioner, my dog or a number of other things.
I tell ya, it's been murder trying to get this recording done just right. :(
-
Keep trying, I don't think its an immediate priority for Tim. ;)
-
I'll record 3 things for us right now Tim and will send them to you ask soon as you wake up :)
-
Alright I sang all 3 of them and noticed a minor mistake in the background music with all vocals but it isn't of too much importance I guess! :p
I'll mail them to your account Tim. When I tried putting them together myself on the background music it sounded pretty good. Awesome job on that background music ;)
-
Tim, any updates on this? Any help you need on the listening/mastering front? I've a bit of time on my hands...not much because all the schools start up this week, but I'm offering if you have something available.
-
I don't think many people have sent their recordings yet...
-
I'll do my best to get mine in by tomorrow or Monday.
Hope you can wait that long, Action! ;)
-
Aye, the biggest reason is that I just don't have all the recordings yet. I'll poke everyone on the list who hasn't sent me one yet to see if they're still willing and interested. :)
-
I can't really figure out how to work yousendit... Is there a way to just upload to the site, or am I supposed to be sending to a specific e-mail address?
-
Ah, you can just send it to my e-mail at action9000@hotmail.com :)
Does that clear things up?
-
Sure, thank you!
I'll get to that right away.
-
Okay!
Files are sent.
I put the link to the high part in the message that contains the medium part, because I accidentally sent it to myself first :lol
Tell me if you get all three parts! Plus I re-recorded Cera's lines once, so I sent that too.
Hope they're okay!
-
That's awesome, thank ya!
-
i sent a couple of recordings to you Tim, i was hoping to do more, but with work and school, I haven't had much free time.
-
I'm still game for this Action! Just been chasing my tail a lot lately (you know of course ;)) Once I get a free space I'll get the recording done. Just need a kick in the arse to get into the swing of things obviously :DD
But will do it soon...Scout's honour! ;)
-
^ Same here. ;)
-
Ugh! This has been slipping my mind continuously. (Like so many other things in my life have been. :bang ) Hopefully, nothing distracting will come and I can get it done today.
See ya later! :)
-
For a while there I kept forgetting that I sent my recordings in already
-
Is it too late to sign up?
I can do just about any part, my voice hasn't changed yet. :D
-
Sure, come on in!
-
Why do I keep forgetting? Why? :bang
If I can still put it up, I'll finish it tomorrow or I'll beat myself dead! :slap
-
Okay Action, I have a serious problem here and I'm hoping you can solve it.
I went to do my recording (finally!) and I found that the mic wasn't being recorded. So I checked my settings and after making sure that they work properly, I then tried it again, and Goldwave didn't record my voice.
What is going on? The mic works fine, but Goldwave won't record it. Why?
Seriously! I need some help here.
Thanks in advance.
-
I'm backing out.
I simply can't find the time for it, and I've got too many other things on my mind at the moment.
-
Any luck getting it to work, Pokeplayer? Really sorry for the late response, I haven't posted on the gof in ages, been too sleepy...:oops zzzzzzz
Anyway :D
If your microphone is working, check a few options in Goldwave:
1) Turn off "ctrl key safety" unless you want to have to cold the CTRL key while pressing record.
2) Make sure the Microphone input is selected in Goldwave and turned up.
Read the options in goldwave carefully..if you can't find them click under the Tools menu to "Device controls".
It looks like we're not going to get anyone else besides pokeplayer now so I'll start working on the song in the near future! :)
-
Okay, considering time restraints of my own, I plan to do it either Saturday night or Sunday. I'll be following your tips in the hopes that I get it this time.
However, note that this will be the LAST attempt I make. So, if I don't get it, that's it, it's over.
Understand that I'm not going to put up with the crap my mic is giving me. Also, I can't get a new one based on the fact that I have quite the bill to pay. (It's a long story on that one.) So, either I get it or I don't. Here's hoping I do.
Wish me luck! :)
-
Please tell us if you're interested in this topic so we can make something cool out of it (maybe)
Oh,i'm interested...About 1 year it's up and it still not done ;) I have only one question-What is the difference between "different vocal parts"?I just don't understand or just don't know
-
I think I'd like to be interested too :)
-
There's no certainty that this will be finished any time soon. It has been in the works for a long time now, so I'm not sure if he is either uninterested in finishing or if he mainly forgot.
In terms of "different voice parts", they mean the different singing parts in the song. There are three parts.
High Part: Littlefoot, Ducky, Petrie
Middle Part: Female Rainbow Face, Cera
Low Part: Male Rainbow Face
The idea was to choose one or more of these parts and record yourself singing specifically that part.
