Of lately many of us have participated in chats with many others of us on MSN. We had literal Gang of Five chats and even larger ones. I think the largest we had so far was a GOS chat (with S as in seven).
The problem about such large chats is that there is a certain risk about them being dissolved into a number of individual chats between some participants on topics the others cant say anything about. Those chats tend to become confused or end with most members falling silent before long.
Nevertheless I think that there may be potential for really interesting chats with many participants if we can find a topic at the GOF (something LBT related would be the most obvious choice for something most of us could contribute too) to discuss on MSN. Maybe some GOF messages can provide inspiration for a continuation of the discussion on the more direct (and sometimes les long winded :lol) level that an MSN chat allows for.
What do you think?

That sounds like a wonderful idea. But with my home computer having dialup still...I may not be able to contribute as much as I would like. But I still say go for it!

I'm not too good in large chats, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them. If anyone wants an extra person and I'm online, I'd be happy to join in.

the most I've been in at a time is around 3 or 4, and those were fun.

I'm fine with group chats, but no more than 3 at a time......EVER!  It gets way too confusing and no one notices when one of the people are quiet.  Not to mention it gets harder and harder to find a topic between all of the participants that all are interested in the more participants there are.  I can't even imagine a chat with 6 other individuals at once.  Waaaaaaay too confusing for my taste.

Also, I can't chat between 2 people in different windows.  One person always gets neglected and I feel like I'm spreading myself too thin.  I stick to one-on-one communication all the time unless in a group chat.

I find myself chatting with multiple people everyday. I've gone with chatting with around 7-8 people in different windows on some cases. I personally find it a relatively easy task to handle more than one chat at a time.

Personally I have no problems talking to a number of people at once.  Though maybe that is because when I use to go to school back in the neanderthal age I use to be reading about 5 books at once and had no problem keeping them all straight.

I've been in chats with 17 people at the same time, me excluded. I could still follow it, but that's me probably. I love those chats, there wont be a silence. But 5 is quite good to follow still isn't it?

Good idea, malte.

Before I forget, in regards to Conferences, here's what I'd like to say:

I have a dislike of Conferences in general. I'm not very talkative in them and I don't tend to feel too comfortable in them. Although I will join Conferences sometimes, if I'm in the mood. I just have one simple request before anyone invites me to a Conference: Ask. Please, just ask me first. I'm not always in the mood for a Conference, and I really hate being randomnly invited into a Conference I don't want to be a part of.

I have always been biased (by bad experience) against large MSN conferences myself. This is why I was surprised at how well it was working out several times, which made me think that perhaps there is some interesting "new land" to discover if people are with this. If chats become too confused and unwieldy perhaps they could be "moderated"? I have just a vague idea that it might be interesting, I may be wrong, and I'm eager to hear your opinions and perhaps ideas. Maybe it is just a whim of mine, but maybe it is not.

They can be fun, though as someone mentioned it can be hard to keep it within an area everyone can comment on.  I forget at times but I do try to pay attention to see if everyone is commenting and if not ask if there are areas they like to talk about so they can comment instead of being excluded since they do not know much of the subject of the current conversation.
