Hey guys!! You all remember me as Hypno, and I have returned to the forum after a four-month hiatus (the Gang of Five has always been an incredible place, great to be back! :yes), and I am here to deliver some exciting news today! I have some HUGE news concerning deleted scenes in The Land Before Time sequels, specifically The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock! :SmugSpike
As you all know, this was the final LBT film to be released during the 1990s, and the final installment to use the old-fashioned, hand-drawn traditional animation. This was the movie that first introduced us to the legendary Lone Dinosaur, the mysterious longneck named Doc (who may or may not be the aforementioned legend), the magnificent monument known as Saurus Rock, Allosaurus, tornadoes, and... the concept of... bad luck... oh... and those annoying threehorn siblings known as Dinah and Dana  :lol
Indeed, the film isn't particularly well liked by many, however, for me, it was one of my favorite LBT films as a kid and still is now. But this isn't what you clicked on this thread for - no, so I'd better hurry up and get right to the news.

Many fans have been waiting for this moment for a very long time - some have even been thinking for over 15 years about when they will get to hear this very announcement. The original film is very well-known for the many, many changes that happened throughout its production (and now, as of the last few years, we have finally been able to piece together what the original cut was supposed to be like) but many seem to neglect the other thirteen movies that surely had content that didn't make it into the final release. Now... that moment is finally here. I am incredibly humbled and excited to announce that the FIRST EVER full script and CONFIRMED cut content for a LBT sequel has been FOUND!!!!! :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate

Yesterday, I had decided to return to looking at the deleted scenes for the original film, and this morning, I was checking out the original script once again (I still never did an analysis of it, I just have not found the time) and, while scrolling down to browse the search results, I stumbled upon a link to a script from eBay, and it said it was from 1996. This immediately peaked my interest, as this obviously could not be a script for the original LBT - and sure enough, I was right. I quickly found out that what I was looking at was the first draft for The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock script. It's a really early script - so early, that it is from April 29, 1996, which was over two years before the movie came out, and months before Roy Allen Smith's final LBT film (Journey Through the Mists) was even released! I thought that was pretty incredible; it proved that a lot of the sequels were being made as others were coming out or were also being produced as well. I first broke the news on the discord server, so if you're there, you may already know about this.

You can check out the script info and preview here.

THE LAND BEFORE TIME
"THE SECRET OF SAURUS ROCK"
Screenplay

THE LAND BEFORE TIME is one of the most beloved and successful of all animated film franchises. It launched in 1988 with STEVEN SPIELBERG's original "The Land Before Time" animated film. Since then, UNIVERSAL CARTOON STUDIOS in association with Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment, produced a number of sequels. Many of us have grown up loving these films and have introduced them to our kids. This 1996 script, written by acclaimed animation writer LIBBY HINSON, continues the saga of the dinos in another exciting adventure.

Now you can own the script - a piece of animation history! It's 99 pages and in very good condition.

The story synopsis:

On the distant edge of the Great Valley stands mysterious Saurus Rock, and twin baby Threehorns, Dinah and Dana, have run away to find it. It's up to Littlefoot, Cera, Spike, Ducky and Petrie to bring them back! The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock is a fantastic adventure filled with fun songs, humor, excitement...and mystery! Legends claim that Saurus Rock keeps bad luck out of the Great Valley. Is it really true? Could the mysterious Longneck named Doc be the famous Lone Dinosaur, who can defeat a Sharptooth with his lasso-like tail? To find out, Littlefoot and company must cross the Great Valley and face a dangerous Sharptooth themselves! Along the way, the young dinosaurs learn about change, acceptance and responsibility. If you look close enough, sometimes you can find a hero living right in your own family!

This would make a great addition to any LAND BEFORE TIME collection, for fans of the films, and for animation lovers.

Some of you may be wondering, "Well Hypno, why haven't you bought it then if you're so excited about it?" Well, that's right, I didn't buy it, but that's okay - because fellow user @Sovereign did it for me!!!  :lol
Everyone truly must applaud him for volunteering to do this! I cannot thank him enough for choosing to obtain the script for everyone to see! Soon, we will be able to view the entire 99 page script in all its glory! (currently, only two pages are available as preview images). I would also like to thank @zero-point for contacting the seller (who is in fact a trusted seller; he has sold multiple legitimate scripts in the past :yes); he is currently trying to find out if the seller has access to other scripts as well. I will give a shoutout to @Anagnos as well, for they also volunteered to buy the script as well! And finally, I'd like to thank everyone on the forum who has allowed me to contribute to many discussions here over the last four years - in fact, this is actually my 1,000th post since joining the forum! I figured that such a special post for me also had to be an important for the forum's history! I know a lot of people have been waiting a long time for this!!!!!  :PAli

General Land Before Time / Journey of the Brave storyboards
« on: June 21, 2018, 06:56:39 PM »
Back in late February, I had contacted one of the storyboard designers for Journey of the Brave, Llyn Hunter, if she had any storyboards of the fourteenth film to share. She answered back, and linked me to her site that had some (I couldn't find her site through a quick Google search). This is something that I have frequently forgot to post about here, so here you all go.

https://hunter4story.weebly.com/storyboards.html (Scroll down till you reach Journey of the Brave; there are a few storyboards down there)

Just a neat little thing considering I don't think we've seen any storyboards or inside production content regarding the fourteenth movie :yes

1988 Theatrical Release / SCRIPT for Original Uncut LBT FOUND!
« on: February 23, 2018, 10:28:18 PM »
At long last, the script for the original, raw, uncut TLBT is available for all to see! :wow :wow :wow
Just go here to view the entire thing! :D

edit June 2019: that link no longer works, go here instead for the new .pdf link from the LBT wikia, this will be here virtually forever
Edit by Mumbling: here's the transcribed script, a tad easier to read/search: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12uQ-hzyvk-s-VIbr6MfoX3AaA6rNwsZTEy09zk86Zxo/

The script is from the May 1987 revision and contains never-before-seen scenes of the film and dialogue. We learned that Petrie was originally going to communicate by whistling, that Cera was going to have an even more angry side than in the movie, among many other new discoveries. Due to the sheer amount of info that this script contains, it's going to take a very long time to discuss every change and make them known to others. This may be the biggest news of the decade concerning the deleted scenes (unless you count the Sharptooth storyboards being more major than this), so I want to make it feel like it was worth it for Sneak to purchase it :yes
After the result of:

1. Sneak buying it on Scriptfly for $14.95 US

2. Which I found out about the script being on Scriptfly by asking the user "havesomedisney" on Tumblr (he had the script, he posted bits of it there so I definitely wanted to see the full script for myself)

3. Which I found the Tumblr blog from asking fellow LBT wiki user "Disneysaurus" about where he got the script images he uploaded

4. As he uploaded the script bits to the wiki and didn't post them anywhere, so I asked him where he got them and he told me the Tumblr blog he found them on

This script is finally available to view as a PDF file! While it isn't the absolute greatest news that I could give (the actual scenes themselves, fully animated, would be the biggest news of all) this is one step closer to experiencing the original uncut film in its glory.

I made a topic specifically for the script to specifically discuss the script itself as this is the second-biggest news about the deleted scenes that we could possibly get. So a big question to begin this topic for the script would be; what do you think is the most major discovery that is contained in this script that we were not aware of of before? :)

General Land Before Time / Favorite Sharptooth Poll 2018 Edition
« on: January 03, 2018, 07:57:42 PM »
This is a poll that I myself have been thinking about making for a long time. This is the official sequel to an old and outdated poll which can be found here. The poll itself is outdated and therefore is missing some sharpteeth that were simply not added as well as the ones from the fourteenth film. At least one sharptooth from each movie will be included in the poll.

This time around, there will be a few changes, additions and removals:
-For this new poll, I will be adding sharpteeth that were missing such as the Ankylosaur-butchering fast biters from VII and the featherhead and horned sharpteeth from XIV.
-Perhaps the biggest change is that the original sharptooth will not be included in this poll. Dr. Rex gave the idea for a new poll not including him so I am going to roll with it. Chomper is not going to be included in the poll either. Those two would obviously be the top picks so I'd like to see what other sharpteeth people like.
-I'll be making things a little more easy to understand this time around ("Crusher and 2 other Sharpteeth from LBT 10" is pretty confusing so I'll do better than the me in 2015).

And with all that, the main question is: what is your favorite sharptooth from the sequels and television series? Make sure to give your reasoning in your post below.

The Fridge / Robert Guillaume has died at 89
« on: October 24, 2017, 04:44:01 PM »
Robert Guillaume, the voice of Mr. Thicknose in LBT VIII has passed away today. He also voiced the popular character Rafiki in The Lion King as well as Isaac Jaffe on Sports Night. He was a very good actor so this is sad news indeed. Thoughts go out to fans, friends and family of him, this was very shocking, I learned of this just now :(

General Land Before Time / In Defense of the Cool Gray Sharptooth
« on: August 06, 2017, 06:12:00 PM »
Here is the second "In Defense of" blog post that Logo has made.

Quote
This is the second blog post in what is essentially a new series I am starting in which I delve into some of the most hated characters in TLBT to determine if they really deserve the hatred they get from the fandom. To be clear, this blog is not an attempt to force any readers into liking the character in question. This is just an attempt to tone down the sheer hatred of many characters, something I really should have mentioned in my Red Claw blog post. The subject of this post is the Cool Gray Sharptooth, one of three Tyrannosaurus assailants from the tenth film.

Unlike the hatred of Red Claw or the Yellow Bellies (who will be covered in the next blog post), the hatred for the Cool Gray Sharptooth appears to be much more recent. The Sharptooth's first appearance is after the Gang, sans Littlefoot, have escaped from the Belly Dragger and are resting against a boulder. The next morning, they find out that the boulder is the Sharptooth, who promptly wakes up and begins to chase them. The gang hide in a cave, with the Sharptooth arriving at the entrance. He is strangely unable to smell them and proceeds to continue to run forward, believing that they were still running ahead of him. The Sharptooth was likely unable to smell them due to the size of the cave in question. The cave is seen as extremely small next to the Sharptooth. It is unlikely that much smell could come out of an opening that small, particularly when the Sharptooth didn't even look at or put his nose to the cave. He likely had no clue the cave was even there.

However, the core reason why he is hated is his failure to crush Shorty, a much smaller Longneck, under his foot during the battle at the climax of the film. In the scene, Shorty runs beneath the foot of the Sharptooth, who is already stumbling down the cliff, and pushes the Sharptooth's foot over his back to trip him and send him crashing into the Orange-Brown Sharptooth below. Upon watching the clip again, it is clear that the reason the Sharptooth doesn't crush Shorty is that he is not putting his full weight on him. The Sharptooth has one of his feet on the ground, while the other is only touching the ground by the toes. That means that the weight of the Sharptooth is concentrated on the completly grounded foot and the toes of the raised foot, not the back of the raised foot. Due to this, Shorty is easily able to support the little amount of weight. This also explains why he is so easily tripped, as he not only doesn't have good balance on the cliff but also doesn't have good weight distribution.

My final point is not just about the Cool Gray Sharptooth, but also encompasses the three X Sharpteeth as a whole. Many fans criticize how the three flee as soon as the eclipse arrives. A solar eclipse is an extremely rare phenomenon, one that likely had never happened in any of these Sharpteeth's lifetimes until the film in question. A sudden event that these animals had never seen before coupled with the removal of much of the visible light (the solar eclipse makes the scene instantly darker the moment it shows up) would eaisly scare away even the most hungry Sharptooth.

In conclusion, the Cool Gray Sharptooth doesn't deserve the hate he gets, as he was defeated by a technicality of weight distribution. This blog post was a lot shorter than the Red Claw one, as the Cool Gray Sharptooth only appears twice in a single film, which doesn't give me much to work with. However, I believe that I have found the definetive answer to explain the Cool Gray Sharptooth's actions in X, and it's all down to science.

(Also, if he really is the Sharptooth from the opening of XIV, he may or may not have redeemed himself. We don't know if he killed the Stegosaurus in the opening, so it is open to debate.)
Any thoughts? Did this change your views on the sharptooth?

This is where I've got those lost sharptooth themes with less movie audio. Thanks to Audacity and Dropbox, I can do this. The LBT III sharptooth theme came out the best of all the others I think. I'll put up links for the other ones too, but they didn't work out as well. Download these and check them out :yes

LBT Fanfiction / Dangerous Times
« on: July 30, 2017, 07:49:35 PM »
Hello everyone. I decided to write a story about The Land Before Time and publish my first ever fanfiction (well, not the first, but I'm not even gonna get started talking about those monstrosities!).

This story takes place a couple of months after the events of The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave. If there is a fifteenth movie that is fine. Take a read anyways :p

Fanfiction.net link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12594177/1/Dangerous-Times

Chapter 1: A Somewhat Normal Day

It is a normal day, unlike any other day in the Great Valley. Well, aside from the many issues in the last few years since the herds discovered it. The sky was blue, there was not a cloud in the sky, and dawn had just ended, and it is no fully daytime. Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie and Spike were playing around the fields of the Valley, chasing each other. They were playing a game they had created not long after they discovered their fertile paradise. It is known as "Sharptooth Attack".

"Grrrr! I am being very scary, yep yep yep!" Ducky says. She was having a lot of fun playing as the sharptooth.

"Please no play as sharptooth from back when we look for Saurus Rock!" Petrie says. The gang wonder why he asks this. Why would he ask such a question? It isn't like the sharptooth was much a threat compared to Sharptooth himself, or the sharptooth that had plates on its back, back when they had visited Chomper accidentally on the Mysterious Island.

"Why ask that, Petrie? It isn't like he was much of - a threat, was he?" Littlefoot struggles to finish. He remembers when he had to literally enter the sharptooth's mouth (which he thought was dead, it fell into the canyon when it was attacking them), and pry a stick into its mouth. This was in order to get one of its teeth to fix Saurus Rock, the reason being Littlefoot was fixed on the belief that Bad Luck had struck the Valley that day. He remembers it nearly eating him. He remembers it chasing him, and then…

He was suddenly interrupted by Petrie, who had finally decided to answer him.

"Well, me had bad sleep story last night. It scary. Me no know why me have such sleep story. Only me know it lot bigger!" Petrie explains, telling them that it was much bigger than the time when they had actually encountered the browridge sharptooth a number of times.

"Hmm. Well then, it sure is strange that you'd have some kind of sleep story like that, isn't it?" Cera asks, trying to get Petrie to explain further.

"Well, me no know." Petrie says, stopping her there. He simply does not have a clue as to why he had the story, and the gang continue playing.

Meanwhile, Chomper and Ruby are off exploring some caves around the Secret Caverns (haven't seen every TV series episode, so I might miss some stuff)

"I haven't seen Red Claw in a while, have you Chomper?" Ruby asks to the young sharptooth.

"I haven't either, Ruby. Maybe he finally stopped chasing everyone away from the Great Valley, as well as his fast biters!" Chomper says, slowly getting more excited, as he believes that Red Claw and his fast biters have finally left.

"I am starting to take back what I said about Red Claw being the biggest and meanest sharptooth of them all. After hearing those stories Grandpa Longneck told us, and after seeing that sharptooth back when the Cold Time had ended, I really think Red Claw is pitiful, to say the least." Chomper says as he reconsiders his statement of Red Claw being the "Biggest and Meanest Sharptooth of them all". The two continue walking through the caves. They find it soothing down there, surprisingly, as hearing the slight dripping of the water from the last sky water fall is very relaxing.

Meanwhile, over at the Rock Circle, the Great Valley population are planning their strategies for surviving the coming heat and blistering summer ahead of them. Bron's herd had left soon after his rescue, though they did hang around for a few days, but that was back in March. It is now far into May, and the temperatures in the Valley are starting to rise quicker than usual.

At the Circle, Grandpa Longneck, being one of the oldest and wisest of the dinosaurs living here, tells them to drink plenty of water, and make sure to avoid too much exposure to the sun. Even Mr. Threehorn, who often disagrees to a lot of things the old longneck says, agrees with this obvious advice.

Later, Littlefoot decides to head over to the Rock Circle, and says bye to his friends.

"Bye, guys!" he says to them. "Bye, see you later Littlefoot!" they all say together. The little longneck smiles as he runs towards down the Valley.

It is almost time for the far-walkers to visit as well, Ali's herd makes a yearly trip in the late Spring. Littlefoot makes his way to the Circle, as a Flyer makes an announcement. It is Petrie's mother, known as Mama Flyer.

"Just so everyone knows, some far-walkers will be making a visit here soon. Some of you longnecks may know them, as they are your cousins." Mama Flyer announces, mainly focusing on Littlefoot's grandparents, and other longnecks who have gathered, as well as a smirking male adult Camarasaurus known as Cam.

Though everything seems to be going okay in the Great Valley on this day, things are about to get much worse...

That was the first chapter. It is not as long as the rest are going to be (it is only around 1000 words), but it is just to give you guys an idea of what is to come. Things are gonna get worse soon, I guarantee you, there are going to be a combination of things that are going to strike terror in the hearts of the herds ;)

It's Party Time! / Language Game
« on: July 27, 2017, 12:51:48 PM »
Alright so, I came up with an idea for a game (possibly hard game) where you have to try and translate a word, sentence phrase, or even part of a song. It an be any language you'd like.

The aim of the game is to be the first to earn 50 points (100 or more if you guys want). 50 points racks up a win, and someone can keep track of the wins. I have a feeling that someone with good language knowledge will do good here :p

You can try and guess the language or the word, sentence, or phrase.
You have to guess the language of the word/sentence/phrase first, and then you can guess the word/sentence/phrase itself and translate it in english in the same post. If you don't know the actual word/sentence/phrase/song lyrics you can pass that part.
It is encouraged to try not to use Google Translate, okay? :)

5 people get to guess, but the first person to answer THE FULL word/sentence/phrase/song lyrics correctly gets to make the next phrase. If nobody answers the full word/sentence/phrase/song lyrics correctly, then the person with the closest guess(s) can make the next word/sentence/phrase/song lyrics.

Point amounts:

For words:
0 points for getting everything or the word wrong
1 points - guessing the language at least
2 points - guessing the word correctly

For sentences/phrases/song lyrics:
0 points for getting everything wrong
1 point - guessing the language at least
2 points - guessing part of the sentence/phrase/song lyrics
3 points - guessing the whole sentence/phrase/song lyrics

This might be tough :sducky
If there are any flaws in my explanation or the rules, please tell me :sducky

Edit: I forgot one thing! I forgot to start!

Sisi ni sawa (should be an easy one :p)

General Land Before Time / How I wanted LBT XIV to end
« on: July 24, 2017, 08:45:21 PM »
We all agree that the ending for JOTB was rushed. This is how I wanted the ending to play out, right after the main characters save Bron.

Bron jumps over the lava with Littlefoot and everyone is safe. In this ending, Grandpa, Topps, Chomper, Ruby and Wild Arms aren't quite at Fire Mountain yet; they're only around that waterfall at the exit of the cave.

Red Claw, Screech and Thud suddenly appear behind the overhanging rock where the main characters had gone to to discover Bron down the hill trapped. Only Red Claw advances and Bron tells the kids to stay behind him. Red Claw roars at Bron and takes a snap. Bron hits Red Claw away with his neck. However, he then calls Screech and Thud to get the children. The fast biters chase the gang, with Etta looking on helplessly, wondering what she can do to help.

Meanwhile, the search party (Grandpa, Topps, Chomper, Ruby and Wild Arms), look over and see the Fire Mountain. "They should be over there," Grandpa says, before a loud roar cuts through the air. It is the Carnotaurus. It charges at them, though the two larger dinosaurs (Grandpa and Topps) defend the kids and Wild Arms. The Horned Sharptooth jumps at them, but is pushed away by Topps. Wild Arms then tries to run away to save himself, and the Horned Sharptooth turns his attention to him, sprinting at full speed, though struggles to get to him, as the trees are getting in the way. Though as the two dinos get closer to the volcano, the number of trees start to lower.

Back at the Fire Mountain itself, Red Claw charges at Bron and Bron turns and hits him away with his tail, sending him into the hill. Meanwhile Screech and Thud chase the children and trap them over by the place where Cera had pushed the rock over to expose all the water. They are trapped.

What happens next? Not sure how they wouldn't die here
You guys can decide :p

This is something I've wanted to discuss on here in a long time - I have before, but on the wrong topics.
We all know of the Canyon Sharptooth, right? The sharptooth that Littlefoot encounters in the climax of LBT VI, right after escaping the Allosaurus.
He has a very similar look to the "Biggest, Meanest, Most Ferocious Sharptooth Ever". They both have the same coloring, eye color, and shape. They also make the same sounds.

I've thought about this for a while: are they the same individual? Is the Canyon Sharptooth the ghost of him, or a manifestation caused by the bad luck that descended upon the valley from the tooth falling off of Saurus Rock? (The area around Saurus Rock is actually an abandoned area of the Great Valley, but doesn't this bad luck start to get worse and worse? Does it extend past the Great Valley?)

Or is it just a coincidence that these sharpteeth are the same looking (just because they're males due to being dark green and being in the pre-art shift, movies I-VI)?

Littlefoot is trying to remove the bad luck because it'll get worse and worse if he does not take the tooth from the Allosaurus. But it is still alive, and it chases him. He loses it by getting through a bunch of rocks, which it starts to break through, and then he runs into a Tyrannosaurus that looks a lot like the Meanest Sharptooth from legend.
Littlefoot says: "I don't wanna be a lone dinosaur anymore!". Why doesn't he say this when he is being chased by the Allosaurus? Because this sharptooth is either the Meanest Sharptooth of some form, or at least looks a lot like him, causing Littlefoot to yell this out.
It chases him, and trips on a rock, allowing the sharptooth to get closer, though a shadow looms over them. Littlefoot looks up, and, thinking it's Doc there to save him from the "Meanest Sharptooth", it is actually Grandpa Longneck, along with his friends. The sharptooth begins a fight with Grandpa Longneck, and struggles greatly against him. Could it be because the Meanest Sharptooth has lived all these years and can now barely fight?
As Grandpa is taking care of business, the Allosaurus appears and roars in anger, presumably from having to use its energy to destroy those rocks. The sharptooth finally kicks Grandpa to the ground, though he is sent a hundred feet or more! Is this because he is some manifestation of the sharptooth from the story?
Both sharpteeth move towards him. Why do they not turn to each other and fight? Large theropods normally do not take kindly to having another one in its territory. Instead they ignore each other, as if one of them is not there.
Doc then appears and takes down the Allosaurus. The Tyrannosaurus turns to him, angrily. Could this because this is his past opponent who killed or nearly killed him? Grandpa then gets up and knocks him away, however, before any sort of confrontation can happen.
Both sharpteeth get up and charge at the longnecks, again ignoring each other, and, stupidly run into a rock spire. The longnecks pull it down, killing them for good. This causes problems with the ghost theory, but the others could still work.
A tooth from one of them lands near the kids. Which sharptooth is the tooth from? It is not known, at least I don't know. But maybe it is the tooth from the Meanest Sharptooth or the manifestation of him? That might fix the bad luck, but a normal Allosaurus tooth would not.

What do you think? I honestly believe that this sharptooth IS a mortal manifestation of the Meanest Sharptooth from legend, and that he was summoned to attack Littlefoot "by the bad luck" due to how bad it is getting.

That was long, I need to rest :lol

General Land Before Time / Sequel Soundtracks gone from YouTube
« on: June 25, 2017, 02:55:33 PM »
Now, we all know that Ludichris started that project to get all the music from the sequels and more, so this isn't too bad for most. But a good number of these tracks were uploaded to YouTube by an awesome guy (Israel Barber, or Ibarber) for people to listen to and put in their own playlists. But I guess it was only a matter of time before his channel was terminated. I don't know if it was the music from LBT sequels, but either way, the channel is gone. He used to mix themes and make his own versions of the sharptooth themes that Michael Tavera didn't have in his possession. He had uploaded different sound effects and audio remakes of movie scenes. Bummer that the channel's gone, but I understand the reasons obviously.

Here is the blog that I have been meaning to write for months now. This blog post seeks to exonerate Red Claw from all of the hate he has been getting in TLBT fandom and is an attempt to instate his title of "the meanest Sharptooth of them all."

My main argument is that Red Claw only appears in a few episodes of a children's television show. In a children's show, violence is significantly toned down. Red Claw is thus unable to perform the same level of violence as Sharptooth or Plates, for example. We have no idea what he does off camera. When not in the spotlight, he could truly be a terrifying villain.

Now, let's go through all of his appearances and explain his actions and defeats. In his first appearance, "The Cave of Many Voices," Red Claw is defeated by the gang producing echos that scare him and Screech and Thud away. This actualy mirrors the behavior of real life predators very well. No predator is willing to risk its life or put in too much energy into a hunt where it thinks it can't get prey out of it. If it does so, it could lose energy and not be able to hunt as quickly later on or could be killed by the prey. The rule is only put in as much energy into a hunt as you can get back once completing it. Red Claw has no idea that the producers of the noise are small children. He believes that they are a large herd of fully grown herbivores who are willing to fight against him. Unwilling to take the risk, he and his subordinates quickly free, just like any other rational predator.

His next apperance is in "The Star Day Celebration," in which he only appears in a flashback where we barely see him at all. All he does is chase after Chomper and Ruby before the two lose him and his subordinates by hiding in a cave. The two are able to fake out the predator, a tactic that sensible prey would use in the wild. Red Claw is just unable to detect their presence and leads them away, still thinking they have continued to run through the canyon.

Red Claw's next appearance is in "The Meadow of Jumping Water," where he appears first in a flashback and appears again later on in the episode. In his flashback appearance, it is clear that he was able to find Chomper and Ruby after his earlier attack in the flashback mentioned earlier. He again attempts to chase Chomper and Ruby, before they again manage to escape from him. This time, however, he finds them again and continues the chase, only to be stopped by a surprise burst of water from a geyser. Geyser water is extremely hot, so it is not a strech to assume that being squirted with it would cause any animal to flee in pain. His sheer pain would explain why he doesn't notice Chomper and Ruby hiding in a bush in front of him. In his second appearance, he appears just after Spike has gotten covered in extremely smelly mud from the geysers. Just as he and his subordinates are about to kill the rest of the gang, Spike arrives and scares off the Sharpteeth with his smell. Both Tyrannosaurus rex and Utahraptor had exceedingly good senses of smell. Their olfactory nerves were larger than those of a bloodhound. If something smells bad enough to be a deterent to a bloodhound, it would likely smell around ten times worse to a Tyrannosaurus or Utahraptor, perventing them from being able to attack. Most predators don't like to eat something that's already dead. While T.rex is known to have been at least a part-time scavenger, the franchise seems to go with the notion that it was a complete predator. As we don't know what Spike smelt like, we could very eaisly assume that the geysers, who might have burnt small animals alive in the past, might have made the mud on Spike smell like dead animals and chasing off the otherwise hungry carnivores.

His next appearance is in the episode "Escape From the Mysterious Beyond." In the episode, Red Claw and his subordinates are chasing after the gang when he loses them again. Thud, however, finds them and attempts to signal to the others before an earthshake separates him from the rest of his pack. Strangely, Red Claw and Screech don't come to see what Thud was calling about. This is possibly due to them attempting to find safety during an earthshake or possibly just not hearing the call. Later on, after reuniting with Thud, Red Claw and his subordinates continue to chase after the gang before the gang hides in a cave. Thud is the only one of the three who knows where the gang are hiding. However, remembering how Chomper had saved his life by freeing him from a pile of rocks trapping his tail, Thud deliberetly leads Red Claw and Screech away and spares the gang's lives. This is not Red Claw's fault, as Thud deliberetly leads him and Screech away from food to thank them for saving his life.

Red Claw's final major appearance, and his most criticized one, is in "The Hidden Canyon." In this episode, Red Claw and his subordinates manage to enter the Hidden Canyon after the tree sweet deterents have mostly been eaten by the gang. The gang, along with Grandpa Longneck and Topps, soon arive to fight them, with the adults directly fighting off the Sharpteeth. Realizing that the Sharpteeth are starting to gain an advantage, the gang pelt the extremely smelly tree sweets at the carnivores, chasing off Screech and Thud. Red Claw stands his ground, only to swallow one of the fruits after it is shot into his mouth during a roar. He then proceeds to follow his subordinates in retreat. Now, as earlier stated, Sharpteeth have extremely powerful senses of smell. If the tree sweets are slightly off-putting to a young T.rex like Chomper, think of how much more pungent they would be to a fully grown T.rex with larger olfactory nerves. Also, swallowing a fruit like that might be the Sharptooth equivelent of swallowing poision. Red Claw is a carnivore, thus fruit has no place in his body. His body can't process the fruit, or at least not as well as it can meat. We also have no idea how the fruit tastes to Sharpteeth. To them, it could be like drinking acid, which any creature would run away from after consuming.

Red Claw's final two appearances are minor roles in the episodes "The Lonely Journey" and "Return to Hanging Rock." In the first episode, he is briefly seen chasing after a stampeding pack of Herrarasaurus. We don't get to see if he captures any of them, so it is possible that he succeeded in that hunt. In the second episode, he is only briefly seen stalking around Hanging Rock. However, he is the only non-Chomper Sharptooth to have ever interrupted a musical number, as he interrupted Ruby's version of "Feel So Happy" in this episode. He does not try to kill the kids, likely due to him not even knowing they were there.

In conclusion, Red Claw clearly doesn't deserve the hate that he gets from the fandom. As this extremely long blog post has shown, Red Claw acts rather sensibly for a predator in his situation. Due to the nature of his status of being a children's show villain, he is unable to use the violence that must have given him the moniker of "the most dangerous Sharptooth of them all." I believe that, instead of ridiculing Red Claw, we should understand that he acts in a way that is very consistent with a real T.rex. While that may not be as exiting, at least he didn't go full Sharptooth in front of an audience of children. Thank you for reading this blog. I hope it at least makes you think about the true meaning of Red Claw's moniker.

As he explains in this blog, Red Claw should not be as hated as he is.

Me, ADFan185, Sovereign, and Snik have been thinking about contacting Mark Pudleiner (an animator who worked on Don Bluth films) has any stills, cels, or information at least about the lost scenes of the original Land Before Time. We may ask about All Dogs Go to Heaven as well (not sure if he worked on the movie or not though).

General Land Before Time / Favorite Sharptooth Encounter Theme

You get two choices if you're not sure which one is your favorite, as most of them are good. I made this poll since some of my favorite soundtrack themes are the sharptooth ones and I've never seen this kind of poll before :)

I pick "Sharptooth and the Earthquake" and "Snowball" as my two picks.

Edit: The multiple choice option didn't work, I could only pick one. Oh no, I couldn't pick "Sharptooth and the Earthquake"!
