Title: Ask Diddy!
Post by: DiddyKF1 on April 22, 2019, 06:04:42 PM
I haven't really flourished anywhere on the forum other than the fanfiction section where I took the prompts by storm last year, so I thought I gotta find something to do so that I can have a good reason to be online more frequently, hence this.

Feel free to ask me anything as long as it doesn't involve oversensitive topics. I'll check back a few times a day to answer any questions you might be wanting to ask me. :) I'll be looking forward to it!

Do you like anime?  ;)

I have started watching a couple of anime shows. I've been getting into Sonic X (Japanese version, because I can't stand the 4Kids version), and Wangan Midnight, which was a Japan-only show.

What is your favourite non-LBT animated film?

I've seen my fair share of Disney films during my youth. I particularly liked Aladdin and The Lion King.

Worst game I've ever played ... Hmm ... I've had the misfortune of getting my hands on quite a couple of bad ones in the past, but if I had to pick one as the most unbearable experience of all the years I've been gaming, it'd have to be Sonic and the Black Knight. I just suck at Sonic games, period. At least I can say I've never played Sonic '06, and I never will.

I've never played Sonic '06 either, although I have watched some funny let's plays of it.

Conversely, do you have a favourite game?

Given that Petrie's your favorite character, do you see him in yourself? Also, would you consider Pterano a good role model or just a plain antagonist based off Stone of Cold Fire?

I've never played Sonic '06 either, although I have watched some funny let's plays of it.

Conversely, do you have a favourite game?

My favorites these days are those ultra-realistic driving simulators. Steering wheel controller is definitely recommended! Although, if I had to count those out, I do enjoy some occasional OutRun or some Super Smash Bros. Judging from my name, it's no question who I'd play as!

Given that Petrie's your favorite character, do you see him in yourself? Also, would you consider Pterano a good role model or just a plain antagonist based off Stone of Cold Fire?

In fact, I do sorta see Petrie in myself in that I have social anxiety, and also perhaps that I have a "snuggling stick" of my own (if you will), made of two blankets (one wrapped over the other), even though I'm 26! LOL! It's weird that I like to sleep with a very comfortable blanket in my hand. It does a pretty good job, though. :) I've also been practicing my Petrie voice for the last two years. I used to use it as my Diddy Kong voice, but I began to add a little squeakiness into it, and I think I have a somewhat cute Petrie voice. Chances are I'd make him sound younger than even Jeff Bennett. Nobody's ever offered me an audition, though. :(petrie

I don't seem to picture Pterano as being an antagonist, but I think he just has mentality problems. I wouldn't really see him as a good role model, either, considering what he did to Petrie. He seems to have a good heart, but a poor sense of judgment.

I don't play any instruments. I do, though, have a soft spot for the sounds of 80's synthesizers and drum machines.

I love summer, because I live in a place where winter seems to last for months.

What are some small things that make your day better?

It's hard to say. I guess it depends on my day. On mornings like this, simply waking up and being online for a while really helps boost my morning.

Oh, there are a huge number of songs from various artists that I've memorized, I couldn't possibly list them all!

As a fan of the original 1987 Lost Boys movie, I was greatly disappointed by its two sequels that came out more than two decades later. The problem I had with the 2008 sequel, "Lost Boys: The Tribe" was that it was just too quick plot-wise. Everything seemed to be revealed too quickly, and it took away the mystery sense that I think many horror movies should have. The 2010 installment, "Lost Boys: The Thirst"? I don't really have much to say about it other than, well, it's terrible. It's a clear sign that today's media has no chance compared to the 80's and 90's.

I'm more than likely not going to be a centennial, so if I was given a chance to look into the 22nd Century, I think the first thing I'd ask once I'm freed from my icy prison is, "What year is it?"

If you had unlimited funds to build a house that you would live in for the rest of your life, what would the finished house be like?

That's a hard one. I already do have a huge bedroom, but if I were able to build a new house, I'd probably include a bar between the kitchen and dining room, and I'd really like to have some arcade machines in the basement!

Favourite band or musical artist? Or if you can't narrow it down to just one, feel free to name several.

I listened to a lot of metal when I was in high school. I particularly enjoyed listening to Killswitch Engage. I have every single one of their albums.

Ten years later, though, I listen to various kinds of music now. I really got sucked into drum and bass band Pendulum during my college years.

I accidentally discovered Modern Talking two years ago while I was writing my original version of "Secret Love," and I don't regret it! It's so crazy how my own DuckyxPetrie romance story got me into a German former pop band that has since broken up and never released their music here in America, and now whenever I listen to one of their 80's hits, I think about Ducky and Petrie!

I'd have to say Donkey Kong Country Returns. I never really played the SNES trilogy, because I never owned an SNES.

As much as I'd like to do both, I think I'd try being invisible first. :D

Oh, how did that come about? As in, how did your fanfic lead you to discover Modern Talking?

I was looking up romantic meanings for 'heart and soul' so that I could put some very romantic flavor into Ducky and Petrie's relationship. Instead, however, I found thousands of results leading me to the 1984 Modern Talking hit, "You're My Heart, You're My Soul." At first, I was hesitant, but eventually I gave in and watched the music video on YouTube. Writing a romantic adventure seemed to lead to an adventure of my own. LOL!

What would be your spirit animal?

I took a Spirit Animal quiz, and apparently, they said mine would be a tiger.

Have you ever had any LBT dreams? If so, which character were you?

I have had quite a few LBT dreams, but I wasn't necessarily in them as a character. I can vividly remember one where Ducky and Petrie went on an adventure to some ... strange land that seemed much like the Great Valley, but something seemed ... different about it, ... not in a bad way. It gave off some unusual vibes. I don't remember much about that place, and the one thing I vividly remember picturing is Ducky and Petrie staring down at the place from a high cliff in absolute amazement, much like Littlefoot's initial reaction upon his first glimpse at the Great Valley; their mouths wide open, letting out soft gasps of surprise, and their eyes widened in astonishment like they couldn't believe what they had just found. I wish I could say more, but that was all I could recall.

Do you have a favourite LBT sequel?

I really liked The Stone of Cold Fire and The Big Freeze, because we got to see great character buildup in both those movies. There really was a sense of maturity when one learned the hard way just how you should trust someone or if you can trust him or not, and the other showed Ducky's flaws for, like, the first time. It was the first time we really got to see Ducky grow as a character.

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?

I'd probably try full-time sim racing on either PC or PS4.

What’s the saddest scene in a movie or TV series?

This is a very difficult one to answer, but if I have to exclude LBT, then it'd probably have to be that scene in the final Harry Potter movie where Harry sees Snape's memories and discovers his true story and allegiances.

I'm not sure. I'm not an everyday listener, and I'm pretty selective when it comes to even looking stuff up, so I can't really give you a clear answer on that one.

What character would it be the most fun to change places with for a week? This isn't just LBT related, anything applies. :)

Probably Miles "Tails" Prower from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It'd be amazing to see all the gadgets he's made. :) Meanwhile, he's likely going to attend a science fair!

Well, the only comedies I vividly remember are the three Austin Powers movies that spoofed James Bond. I never forgot my reaction to hearing Michael York's voice again (he played Basil Exposition; the "M" of Austin Powers, if you will), and I thought 'Don't I recognize that voice somewhere?'

I would probably allow the movies to be just a little longer. I was especially disappointed by how the ending to "The Stone of Cold Fire" seemed somewhat rushed. We didn't see the families' reactions to their kids coming home, which particularly should have been the case for Ducky's family. Then again, I kinda did that justice with one of my fanfiction prompt entries last year.

Nobody's asked me this one actually. :P

Best purchase I've ever made? That would have to be Gran Turismo Sport for the PS4. :D

The worst one I've made would likely be that Xbox 360 version of NASCAR 08. I didn't have any idea just how horribly the car would drive in that game.

I was in the General Studies program, so I was practically free to study almost anything. I really got a kick out of Astronomy. The professor made it so fascinating that I'd take that course again had I been allowed to! :P Towards the end of my college years, I took media, film, and video and audio editing classes, and now I'm looking to get a potential job as a film editor.

What do you value the most in friendship?

I value the opportunities to open up to friends about my interests and getting to know the interests of those I make friends with. :)

Is there a particular idea that you would like to see explored in fanfiction or fanart (for LBT or any other fandom that you are part of) that you have not yet seen?

I'm glad you asked that. There was one LBT story I was once reading that portrays the Gang surviving the extinction of the dinosaurs (the alleged meteor that struck Mexico's Yucatan peninsula). However, the author left the story unfinished and abandoned, and nothing ever came out about what could possibly have happened to the surviving children. I've had many ideas about long-length LBT stories, but I haven't spent enough time putting thought into them, but that's one idea I have had in mind. Whether the Gang's families survive I'm not sure, since meteorite strikes would likely have come without warning (unless Petrie or someone in his family, being Flyers, would likely have seen what was about to unfold and frantically tried to warn the valley that they may have to evacuate). It would essentially be a story much like the first movie, where the children try hard to stick together through the tragic events unfolding and survive the apocolaypse.

I practically had that phase with the Land Before Time movies. You wanna know how bad it was? I spent so many years away from the series that I even forgot that Littlefoot had a mother and about the earthquake. I only remembered that he had grandparents, and I remembered that Topps was such a bigot, but nearly everything else I had forgotten, so it was so refreshing to watch the movies for the first time in years. It genuinely felt like I was experiencing it all for the first time all over again.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Graduating from college with a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. :D

Ah, right. Yes, I remember you had mentioned a similar story on my introduction thread. Interesting that our LBT experiences were so much alike in that regard, right down to us not seeing the original film for around 15 years.

For the most part, I enjoyed the sequels. I particularly enjoyed VII and VIII, but others I had mixed feelings about. Most of the sequels I've only seen once all the way through. I almost couldn't even watch XIII. It only took like five seconds of screen time for the Yellow Bellies to disgust me. Other than that, I basically enjoyed most of the sequels.

I'm very picky when it comes to food, so it's not often I eat something "gross." Most recently, I can remember going to a nearby restaurant to try out some kind of chicken they had, and the spices they used on it just seemed a bit ... odd. I somehow ended up not liking it.

I hide myself and listen to some depressing music, unless I'm out in public, in which case I prefer to shield it from anyone else.

Then again, I don't cry very easily. It's strange that I didn't cry when my grandmother passed away two years ago. Maybe, it's because I wasn't as close to her as I am with my mother. It was still a shock, though.

Most of the time, I tend to drink two cans or bottles of Coke per day, with occasional touches of Sprite and 7-Up. I also like Pepsi, and I have started to have an interest in Dr. Pepper.

Is there any childhood activity you wish you could still do now?

I can vividly remember having a nice little lounge back when I was living in Virginia, being about six or seven years old. On the weekends, I would sit on that little couch wearing just a t-shirt and a diaper (some aspects of my childhood were developmentally delayed :opetrie), watching Land Before Time VHS tapes all day long while the sun shone through the window just above the TV. Occasionally, I bounced along to "Peaceful Valley" on my cute bare feet.

I get teary-eyed just thinking about that memory. That may have sounded weird and embarrassing, but those were the gold ol' days. All of those aspects have since disappeared from my life, and now they're just memories. :(petrie

Are you good at analyzing people?

I don't think I can say that I am. I'm not one to turn to when it comes to psychology. :P

Ideal moveset if someone were to convert you into a fighting game character?

Well, I'd preferably be a wild-going monkey just like Diddy Kong, and I'd share most of the moves he has, but I'd come with a few of my own, such as charging down from above and clapping my feet hard against an opponent to do some damage, and spinning around very fast while stretching my legs out to do some very painful kicks to anyone close enough! I would shoot lasers rather than the peanuts that Diddy prefers, and being able to fly for a short distance would be nice, too! :D As for my finale, I pull out a boombox and make it play some distorting, loud jungle drum and bass music and would use my jet pack to zip towards enemies and rhythmically beat the crap out of them, while at the same time shooting lasers at others, also in rhythm to the loud music. I'd more likely make it "My Sound" by Potential Badboy.

It's funny how I'm 26 and my voice is naturally deep, even compared to others my age around my area. Even then, I can still hit those high pitches. I practiced in character as Diddy Kong for years before I found out that Petrie's voice sounds very similar to Diddy's voice from the Donkey Kong Country cartoon series. I'd say Petrie is probably just the tiniest bit squeakier, being the younger of the two. :)petrie

You could try practicing every once in a while, without overdoing so that you don't blow out your voice or hurt your throat.

I've already dubbed my Petrie voice for the whole first movie, and if we ever do end up doing the sequels, I might give those a shot, too.

Well, I may have mentioned this when I started this topic, but I tend to typically check this section once every few hours or so, except for when I'm not home or if I'm asleep, and if I see a new question, I get right on and answer it. It may sound weird, but most of the time I only tend to be online after there's new activity in topics that I follow regularly. I know that sounds a little ... awkward, but that's the way I roll. It goes back and forth. I do have a good taste for many fruits, but I will have the occasional habit of having pizza at least twice a month. Thankfully, I can say that my balance is okay. :)petrie

Biologically, I have four siblings, and I'm in the middle. I live with both of my younger brothers, along with my biological nephew whom was raised as my brother because his mother (who is actually my sister) was not capable of being a parent. My oldest brother actually used to work for Blizzard and now he's living in Colorado, enjoying the Rocky Mountains and going to Rockies games; about 1,500 miles away from where I live.

The idea of being able to express my interests through art rather than just pure words.

I'm not very good with foreign languages, I'm afraid. I bailed out of Spanish during ninth grade and never attempted another foreign language class. I do wish I could study Japanese, but their system is so confusing. :opetrie You'll probably only ever hear me speak English.

I use a CAD Audio U37 microphone (USB connection), and I record using Audacity. As you've likely heard in the voiceover, it's a very good microphone. Highly recommended for studio quality and non-professional use. :)petrie

You do feel a mild prickling sensation, but aside from that, it's not painful at all. That's because your body weight is evenly distributed across all those nails, hence they're able to support you and so you don't get punctured.

I suppose if I stumbled across a little baby monkey, the first thing I'd say to it would be, "Hi there, little guy."

Right now, I'm looking to watch the Japanese version of "Sonic X." I refuse to watch the 4Kids version for obvious reasons. Sonic Boom was interesting for a while, but it quickly got kinda dull and I became disillusioned with the show, although I have a British friend on DeviantArt who is still writing Sonic Boom stories and is occasionally asking me for contributions.

As someone who ships fellow one jolly swimmer and one panic-prone flyer together as well, why Ducky and Petrie? Why do you personally ship those two, and was it instinctive on first viewing, or was it a ship that slowly grew on you after fanart/fanfics/repeated viewings/personal experiences?

(I'm pretty sure no one has asked this... I hope. Can't remember if A/N in Secret Love stated this)

You would probably imagine that I first got the idea while watching the first movie when I saw "that moment" when Ducky planted this big kiss on Petrie's cheek. The sequels had these numerous moments where Ducky would open her arms out and Petrie would dive right in for a hug. Also, in movie VII, there was a moment where it seemed that Ducky was the only one who cared about Petrie (although Littlefoot was probably worried for him), and she went as far as to sneak off in the night to try and comfort him (only to be kidnapped by his own uncle). Even then, she was quick to comfort him when he voiced his doubts about Pterano, and for me, that was what pretty much did it; there I was, an eight-year-old boy and suddenly daydreaming about Ducky and Petrie possibly "becoming more than best friends." Obviously, I didn't know much about romance at the time, but I kept having these dreams where I saw them hugging and kissing each other, and overtime I began to realize what was happening to me: I was slowly descending towards becoming a Ducky x Petrie shipper!

Years later, I read at least three fanfics that involved the two falling in love (one of which was in the Portuguese language and I translated using Google Translate). There was a few pieces of artwork that helped me realize that I wasn't the only one who kept having those daydreams all those years ago, and I finally decided to write my own story on them. I watched through all 14 movies last year so that I'd know what I was doing once I started my rewrite of the story.

There was also a YouTube video with a song called, "You Make Me Happy," that featured a short compilation of DuckyxPetrie scenes in the movies, and that further fueled my desire to ship them.

I'm not sure if you've made it very far in "Secret Love v2," since I haven't had a review since before I wrote the epilogue, but I suppose this would be a good opportunity to ask what chapter you made it up to if you've read any chapters over the last seven months.

About Chapter 10 or so, I think. I still have a soft soft for the original version.

Fine, this is a cop-out question to not make it awkward that the question got reversed onto me in an "ask you" thread, but what would your favorite canon and fanon (in this case, fav fanart/fanfic) evidence of this ship be?

Well, when it comes to canon, it would have to be the "Good Inside" scene from movie VII. It just defined their undying friendship.

In terms of fanwork, it's hard for me to pick a favorite, but I really liked AllegroGiocoso's "The Time of the Great Growing," which additionally shipped Littlefoot and Cera together.

I wish I could, but trying to find the GoF's Discord server has been a pain.

Not counting Chomper or Ruby, I would probably have to say Ali. Out of the very few children we see in the sequels, Ali is the most deserving of them.

Packard Bell Legend 10CD - DOS & Windows 3.11
1997-2001 (I accidentally ripped the disc tray out while trying to pull out a CD-ROM that was partially sticking out.)

Compaq Presario - Windows 98
1999-2017 (Had internet until it suffered a massive heart attack in 2003, and was then only used for retro gaming.)

DELL Inspiron E1505 - Windows 7
2012-2015 (Motherboard failure)

HP Notebook - Windows 8.1
2015-2019 (Wi-fi card failure)

HP Laptop - Windows 10
2018-present

These are only the computers that I've owned, but not the ones my parents used.

I had some Japanese chicken, steak and shrimp as my main course, and a very warm soup as an appetizer.  It had these tiny things in them, but I'm can't recall what they were.

And previously I hated seafood, but Fuji Grill actually makes good shrimp.  For once, I enjoyed it.

It's utterly ridiculous.  As we speak, all future laptops will be less powerful and have less space, ... and yet they will still be more expensive.  In my opinion, laptops are becoming a dying breed, and this is why I want to go back to desktops.

Oh, okay. That makes sense. For some reason I thought it was a different character depending on how many stars were in the banner, and that there was a different "default" character for 1 star, but that you'd put in a special request for Petrie on your banner.

@StardustSoldier Didn't see this, but I'm answering anyway. There was a pool of OC character participant banners that one could choose from when this was up, but you could make a request for a personalized star-banner. For instance, the dino in Sovereign's award, is Yarel, someone which I finally realized was his OC from his own story. :p Diddy went for Seeker in 2017 but a Petrie banner in 2018, which wasn't in the default pool (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15338.msg464671#msg464671). That was why I asked the question in the first place, so apologies if I worded it in a confusing way.

All that said, I never had the nerve to ask and trouble Darkwolf to customize, so I just went for Taunt from the default pool.
