If it said it was blocked, you should be safe. But if you want, you can run a few scans with whatever programs you have. If you only have Avast, perhaps you could try the boottime scan.

At any event I think this is just a false positive. I'm not getting any warnings myself.

Png files, are as I know, can't contain viruses. But I think it is possible for a virus to pretend to be a png file. In any case, I think it was just a false positive, and if you aren't actually infected (you're not if Avast blocked it) then you should be just fine. But if you want to reformat, go ahead.

I haven't had any problems with viruses in the two years I've been here. Is your computer an older one? Maybe it's the browser or something. I don't know, I'm not a computer tech.

Like Kacie said, if it says that it is blocked then you should be fine. Try scanning your whole computer to see if there are just in case. I know that might take a bit, but it's better to be safe then sorry.

Your anti virus program is giving you a blind alarm there Waluifan. The file it names would be the PNG image of John's (pokeplayer's) awards. I made that PNG myself (without including any viruses of which I wouldn't have the vaguest idea of how to create them to begin with :DD) and unless John decided to host it elsewhere it is hosted at a tripod page which I have often used to host pictures.

I've never gotten a virus from this site either.

The only other possibility I could think of is there was another website open on your computer at the same time the GOF's website was opened.  The other website could've put a virus on your computer, and there could've been confusion about which site caused the virus.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense here :bang.  Something like this happened to me once.  I happened to be on here when I decided to go somewhere else on the Internet at the same time.  Things were fine until my virus scan program suddenly detected a couple of those damn Blastoworms and Trojan Horses <_<.  Took at least two hours to eradicate any threats.  Yes, I do run virus scans on a regular basis, but I had not used my laptop for at least two days when that happened, so I have no idea if that was the cause or not.

It is very possible to put a virus (or any other file for that matter) inside an image.  It's used all the time.  But there's nothing wrong with those pages or any of the images on them.

However, pictures do not contain any executable data, something that, from what I understand, viruses need in order to even work. So I don't know how putting a virus in a picture can do any damage, or how it's even possible.

You don't have to apologize ;)

Computers are strange machines sometimes. They can work for you, and they can be very stubborn. It was a simple confusion, and now that you figured out what was wrong everything is fine :D
