History Section / Apollo 11 moon landing
« on: July 20, 2009, 07:51:08 AM »
In case if you didn't know, today is the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. It's amazing to think that within a single decade, we went from sending the first human into space to sending the first human to walk on the Moon. I'll be spending most of the day watching the History channel, since just about every show on that channel today is related to the Apollo Program.

Unfinished RP's / A Disruption in Time
« on: July 01, 2009, 07:00:47 PM »
Steven slowly woke up and got out of bed. For him, this day would seem like any other. Once he was out of bed, he began his morning routine. With items retracting in and out of the walls, the bedroom turned into a bathroom. After taking a shower and getting dressed, the bathroom items retracted back into the walls and a treadmill came into the room. Exercise was important for his health, so he would run a kilometer every morning. Once he was finished his exercise, a table and chair came up out of the floor. His breakfast was already on the table. Once breakfast was finished, the table and chair retracted back into the floor, leaving the room completely empty. This was a typical home for this time period: the year 12000 C.E.

A display screen appeared in front of Steven, showing him his schedule for the day. He was pleasantly surprised to see that today, he was going on another observation trip to Earth. For him, this kind of day was one of the best ones he could ever imagine. He was always pleased to visit the planet his kind, the Rainbowfaces as they were called by the primitive residents of Earth, had once called home, even if there were some laws he had to follow. Ever since The Great Departure ten thousand years ago, his kind had never attempted to come back to Earth and rebuild their civilization. Their old civilization was never destroyed, just abandoned. It had taken only a thousand years for the forces of nature to erase most traces of their existence on that planet.

Steven turned off the display screen and walked to the only door out of the room. He placed his hand on the scanner and the door opened. He then walked down the hallway to the transportation ships. Just as he had expected, he would be going with his good friend Elizabeth again. However, one thing he found quite odd was that so many other people were also going on observation trips to Earth, about a dozen in total. Although their assigned areas were all different, it was unusual for so many people to go on the same day. He chose to ignore this for now.

Steven and Elizabeth climbed into their transportation ship. It was just barely large enough to give them a comfortable ride, since these ships were designed only for carrying people from place to place. They felt the ship undock and starting to move. They were now on their way back to Earth.

Silver Screen / 2012

I may not be much of a believer in the doomsday prophecy of 2012, but this movie definitely seems worth watching, when it comes out in November this year.

Role Play Discussion / RP Idea: A Disruption in Time
« on: June 15, 2009, 12:00:21 PM »
This is the first RP I decided to make, and I decided to wait until school was over, when I would actually have to time to do it.

Back-story: This RP is based on the theory about the Rainbowfaces from LBT 7 that I came up with over a year ago. Basically, they were not extraterrestrials, but rather the descendants of a global civilization that had long ago left the planet. Long ago, they lived like all the other kinds of dinosaurs, but their high intelligence allowed them to create civilization; eventually reaching a point where it resembled the modern human world, except in place of humans are the Rainbowface species. After a series of catastrophes, nearly all of them left the planet forever in spaceships (some chose to stay behind and go back to the wild). The events of LBT take place 10,000 years after this event, allowing plenty of time for most traces of such development to disappear.

For this RP, the plot starts with the two Rainbowfaces from LBT 7 coming back to the planet for a routine observation. The gang wanders into the Mysterious Beyond and meet up with them. However, when they all go back to the Great Valley, they find, not the valley they all knew, but a city; a city that had vanished thousands of years ago (think of it as an average modern American city). From there, things get even stranger. From what the people in the city see, it seems that all traces of civilization outside of the city had completely disappeared, leaving them on their own. After a few days of struggling to keep the city alive, it is revealed that the entire planet has somehow turned into a patchwork of time periods. Existing on the planet at the same time are: a Spanish colony in the new world, the heart of the Roman Empire at its height, and World War Two Germany, just to name the examples I've come up with. How is this strange new planet going to live on?

A few more things. Since this civilization is not human, the names for places will be different from what we're familiar with (example: America is not called 'America' but a different name (I haven't come up with one yet)). Also, the land on the planet is not the super-continent of Pangaea, but the continents as they were 66 million years ago. (That's right, 66 million years ago. I have no intention of bringing the asteroid of doom anytime soon.)

Okay, now for the characters list (I'll update as roles are taken. OCs will be accepted):

Steven (Male Rainbowface): The Chronicler
Elizabeth (Female Rainbowface): The Chronicler
Littlefoot: The Chronicler
Cera: The Great Valley Guardian
Ducky: Kor
Petrie: Kor
Spike: Kor
Chomper: brekclub85
Ruby: The Great Valley Guardian
Ali: Nick22
Shorty: Nick22
Guido: Myrkin
OCs-
Diver: Kor
Longtail: The Great Valley Guardian
Rita: brekclub85
Rory: brekclub85
Myra: brekclub85
Greg: brekclub85
Mim: Kor
Cyrix: The Great Valley Guardian

As you can see, there's still a lot of work to do. I don't even have names for the two Rainbowfaces, which is something I'd really like for this RP. Please let me know what you think of this idea, and feel free to give me any ideas you may have for improving this RP.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention, I originally planned to use this idea in a fanfic, but there were two reasons why I chose to do an RP instead: 1, I'm currently too busy with my other fanfic to start writing another. 2, the way I planned it left the gang with very little activity and I didn't want them excluded like that.

The Fridge / 200,000 posts
« on: June 10, 2009, 10:56:13 PM »
Just over a year ago, this forum reached 100,000 posts. Now, that number has nearly doubled. We are now less than 5,000 posts away from reaching a total of 200,000 posts for this forum. I'm estimating that we'll reach 200,000 posts before the end of this month.

P.S. If any of the newer members are interested, here's the topic that discussed the 100,000 post mark:

Silver Screen / Life After People
« on: April 18, 2009, 08:18:26 PM »
I've recently found out about this new series on the History Channel. It's a spin-off of the two-hour program that was first shown just over a year ago. Basically, it's about what would happen to everything left behind if every human on the planet were to suddenly disappear. Things like how structures and cities would disappear and how other life forms would thrive in a world after humans.

This page describes the two-hour program:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_After_People
The official website has been changed for the up-coming series:http://www.history.com/minisites/life_after_people/

Anybody interested in watching this?

The Fridge / Bionicle
« on: December 27, 2008, 09:12:26 PM »
I don't know why I never thought of doing this any earlier. Since I'm clearly a Bionicle fan, it would make sense if I made a discussion topic about it.

One of the main reasons I'm making this topic is because I know that at least some of you have at least heard of Bionicle, but I would like to know how much you know about it. I'm interested if you follow the story, buy the sets, or do both (which is what I do). I'm also interested in hearing what you thoughts on it are, as well.

(P.S. This is my 1000th post! :wow )

LBT Fanfiction / Want ideas for fanfics?
« on: July 05, 2008, 10:36:59 PM »
As you may know by now, I am currently writing my first fanfic. I am very determined to get it finished (this is because I have never yet finished any project I wanted to do during my free time). Once I have finished it, I will then work on a sequel for that fanfic. In fact, I'm already planning three sequels for it :wow . Since I'm the only LBT fan and Bionicle fan around here, I've felt like I should dedicate my writing of fanfics to this series of fanfics that I've planned and still planning for almost a year now.

As a consequence, I will likely never be able to write fanfics for any of the dozens of other ideas for LBT fanfics I've been coming up with. I think some of these ideas are great, and it would be a shame for no one to ever hear of them or see them actually turned into a fanfic. :(

The solution: I'll give away these ideas, and see if anyone would be willing to go anywhere with them. I won't be giving out any at this moment, but starting tomorrow, I'll post any acceptable idea for an LBT fanfic that I happen to have at the moment. If some of you think a certain idea would do better as an RPG instead of as a fanfic, go right ahead.

So, is anyone willing to accept ideas from me?

off topic: this is my 500th post :D

Silver Screen / When We Left Eath
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:14:08 PM »
I should have posted this over a week ago. :o  There's a six-part series on the Discovery Channel about the American space program. Each part is two hours long and on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. EST. The first part was on last week, which was about the Mercury and Gemini missions. This week, and on tonight, will be about the Apollo missions. Don't worry if you didn't see the first part, I heard that the first two parts on DVD were already available for per-order by the time the first part was on last week.

Silver Screen / Dogfights of the Future
« on: May 11, 2008, 05:16:58 PM »
I was watching the History Channel last night, and I saw a show about what dogfights (air combat) in the near-future would be like. Fictional scenarios were shown to show what existing or soon-to-exist aircraft would be capable of doing. I found it interesting to note that the F-22 is so well-designed, it could still be in use for the next two decades. Another fact that I found very interesting was that the first dogfight in space could happen as early as 2027, and up in the vacuum of space, the fights will indeed be very different from in the air.

The Fridge / 100,000 posts?
« on: April 05, 2008, 04:24:47 PM »
I recently took a quick look at the board statistics on the bottom of the main page, and I noticed that the number of total forum posts had recently passed 92,000. If I remember correctly, it was 90,000 only about a month ago. Because of this, I actually think we could reach 100,000 in no more than a few months if we continue at our current rate.

I think this proves that GOF has become more popular these days than it may have ever been.

What are your thoughts on this?

Silver Screen / Walking With Dinosaurs
« on: March 22, 2008, 04:55:45 PM »
For those of you who didn't know, "Walking With Dinosaurs" was a three hour long program that was first shown on the Discovery channel back in early 2000. It was about all kinds of dinosaurs from various places and time periods.

I've recently seen TV ads for a remake of this program that includes new research and new theories. It will be on Sunday (tomorrow) at 8:00 p.m. EST. I'll try to watch this if I can. I'm expecting most, but not all, of it to be similar to its earlier version.

General Land Before Time / My new theory on the Rainbow Faces
« on: February 02, 2008, 11:08:23 PM »
I was watching Life After People on the History Channel a few hours ago. As I watched it, I came up with a new theory about those Rainbow Faces from LBT 7. It's complex, but interesting.

Basically, this theory states that the Rainbow Faces, as a race, are not aliens but were once just like the rest of the dinosaurs on Earth. At one time, they became so intelligent, they began to develop civilization. Eventually, the dinosaur world resembles the human world, in place of humans are the Rainbow Faces. They eventually realize that by building civilization, they are severely damaging the planet. It soon becomes clear that the only solution is to end civilization. Instead of dieing off, they choose to leave the planet and become citizens of space. Nearly everything they leave behind disappears after only a few hundred years. Some Rainbow Faces chose to stay behind and abandoned civilization, explaining their appearances in LBT 9 and 11. Many dinosaurs become determined to not end up like the Rainbow Faces, so they limit their area of thought.

Like I said, this theory is very complex, but quite interesting. This theory might even inspire some fanfiction. What do you think of this theory?

LBT Fanfiction / Quest for the Energy Stones
« on: January 28, 2008, 10:00:44 PM »
Alright, I'm ready to do something I've never done before, writing my own fanfic. I've thought out everything in this story for months now, and I actually started writing it only yesterday. This fanfic is a crossover of my two favorite things, LBT and Bionicle. I hope you will enjoy reading it. Okay, here it is.

-------
Quest for the Energy Stones

Prologue

Morning came to the island of Mata Nui. All across the island's six villages, Matoran woke up to prepare for another day of hard work. Before they could get to their work this morning, however, they gathered in the centers of their villages. The Turaga, the elders of each village, had a meeting the previous day and needed to inform their villages of the subject of their discussion, a new and strange prophecy.

In the village of Ta-Koro, one Matoran was sleeping against a wall. He slept here because he didn't really have a place in this village to stay. His name was Takua. Although he was Ta-Matoran, he wasn't accepted much by the other Ta-Matoran. Takua always loved to travel, often traveling from village to village and occasionally collecting a souvenir. However, his love of traveling had caused most Ta-Matoran to have very little trust in him. They did not like to travel and feared that his adventurous ways would bring them bad luck. In fact, they had so little trust in him that it was possible that he would soon be banished from Ta-Koro.

As Takua slept, one guardsman walked by and noticed him. He shook Takua awake and said, “Wake up! Turaga Vakama has returned from his meeting and has an important announcement to make.”

“Okay, okay, I'm coming,” said Takua, still a little sleepy. He grabbed his backpack and headed for the center of Ta-Koro. His backpack held all of the things he had collected on his travels, so he almost always held onto it. Takua soon arrived at the crowd of Ta-Matoran gathered in the center of the village. Compared to the other Ta-Matoran, even his appearance made him seem like an outcast. A Ta-Matoran's mask had a color of either black, red, orange, or yellow. Takua's mask was light blue. After so many travels, he still had not yet found out where he truly belonged, despite the fact that he considered Ta-Koro his home.

As Takua arrived, he saw Turaga Vakama stand up before the Ta-Matoran, signifying that the meeting was about to begin. In his hand, he held a stone tablet, the subject of this meeting.

“Fellow Ta-Matoran,” he announced, “I have returned from my meeting with the other Turaga with urgent news. A new prophecy has been revealed to us, one that even I have doubts for. It states that the six villages, along with all of the Matoran, shall be brought to another universe, a universe where unknown objects of power lie hidden.” He was silent for a few seconds before continuing. “I am uncertain of when this prophecy may come true, but we must be prepared for when it may happen.”

“How will we prepare for this, Turaga?” asked one Ta-Matoran.

“I am uncertain,” replied Vakama. “If and when this prophecy does come true, the best solution we have agreed upon is that all of the Matoran are to remain inside the villages at all times. This is because we are uncertain of what kind of universe we may end up in. It could be even more dangerous than what we are already facing these days.”

Stay inside the village forever? This was something Takua would not let happen. He was about to say something in protest when suddenly, the sky began to seemingly get brighter and brighter. The Matoran shielded their eyes from the blinding light.

“Turaga, what's happening?” asked one Ta-Matoran.

“Mata Nui!” exclaimed Vakama. “The prophecy is coming true already!”

The light continued to grow brighter. After a few seconds, the light began to fade. Eventually, the bright flash of light vanished. The village of Ta-Koro, along with all of the Matoran within the village, was nowhere to be seen. It was as if the village was never there. If there had been an observer outside the village, he would have seen a large beam of light come from a particular point in the sky and shine onto the entire village. The same event had just happened to all of the other villages of Mata Nui; multiple beams of light had come from one point in the sky and shone onto the villages. Nobody in this universe could have possibly known what would happen to the villages and the Matoran within them.
-------

So what do you think? Is it a good start? Don't worry if you don't understand some of the terms, all will be revealed after a few chapters. Please let me know if there's anything I need to improve on, I really want this fanfic to turn out great.

I still have enough free time today, I think I'll start on the next chapter. Yes, it will feature the LBT gang.

The Fridge / Life After People
« on: January 19, 2008, 09:45:42 PM »
I know what you're probably thinking, a topic like this should be in a differant subforum, but I think the subject will be more talked about than the program itself.

I've recently seen TV ads about a program called "Life After People" that will be on the History Channel on Monday, 1/21/08 at 9 p.m. EST and will run for two hours. I decided to mention this ahead of time because I think some of you might find it interesting. Basically, it will be about what would happen to everything humanity created if every single human on the planet ceased to exist. You could think of it as a real life version of the movie 'I Am Legend', only there is absolutly no humans left alive. I've seen on the TV ads things like fameous structures covered in numerous plants and tall skyscrapers collapsing.

I find this subject quite interesting. What are your thoughts on it?

LBT Fanfiction / My idea for a fanfic
« on: December 26, 2007, 07:53:23 PM »
For many years, I've come up with ideas for fanfiction for many various things. But this idea seems so great, that I just simply can't forget about it like all the others. It's a crossover of LBT and Bionicle.

Here's what happens: the six villages of the island of Mata Nui and their residents are misteriously and suddenly transported to the Great Valley, where strange climate changes have made parts of the valley suitable for each village. Takua, a Matoran who loves to travel, quickly becomes friends with Littlefoot and the others, helping to estabish peace between Matoran and Dinosaurs. But after a few days, Rahi attacks indicate that Makuta had followed the Matoran to the dinosaur world. Without any Toa for protection, things seem hopeless when a discovery is made. Makuta can be stopped, but only by the powers within the Stones of Elemental Energy. So now, the gang, along with their new friend Takua, must travel to many dagerous places to find the Stones so they can stop Makuta and return peace to the valley.

If you're wondering on what part of the Bionicle storyline this takes place, it happens a few months before the arrival of the Toa Mata to the island of Mata Nui. There are two reasons I chose this; 1, Takua is my favorite Bionicle character, and I'd like to have the gang meet him as a Matoran, not as a Toa, and 2, Of all the places in the Bionicle universe, Mata Nui seems the most similar to the dinosaur world, and therefor easier for Matoran and dinosaurs to accept each other.

I don't know when I'll be able to acctually start it, and with all the school work I have, I might not even start it months! :(  Until then, I'd like to know what everyone thinks of this idea. Tell me what you think and who knows, if everyone looks forward to it, I might be more willing to start it as soon as possible.

The Fridge / I need some help
« on: December 26, 2007, 11:28:20 AM »
In case if you didn't know, I didn't have an e-mail address until a few days ago. Because of this, I know barely anything on how forums work. :(  If anyone is willing to help me, here are some things I want help on:

How do I get an avatar? There's one I'd like to use and I know where it is, but how do I make that image an avatar?

How does fanfiction.net work? I'm planing on writing a fanfiction there instead of here for reasons I'll explain later and I'd like to know how that place works before I join.

Again, I really would appreciate it if one or more of you are willing to help me feel more comfortable about being a member here. :yes

The Welcome Center / Hi everyone!
« on: December 26, 2007, 11:07:08 AM »
Hi everyone! I just joined and I'm very glad I did. I've been a daily visitor since late September. If you're wondering why I didn't join any earlier, the answer is simple but strange: I did not have an e-mail address at all! That's right, I didn't have an e-mail address untill just a few days ago.

Now, about me. The only thing I like more than LBT is Bionicle, the Lego product (explaining my Bionicle syle name and avatar (when I get it up)). I've bought Bionicle sets since they first appeared in 2001. I'm also a member of the largest Bionicle forums, bzpower, but I'm not active there anymore, mainly because it's far larger than this place (last time I checked, bzpower had no less than 38000 members). Back to LBT, I've been a fan again for no more than a year, and I'm gald that I found this place. I sure hope to be very welcome here. :)
