Title: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on January 03, 2017, 06:36:04 PM
Hi guys,

I really like rhombus' idea of a somewhat continuous creative challenge to keep the GoF's creative masterminds busy so, in cooperation with him, I will host a fanart version of his fanart challenge, yep, yep, yep! The challenge will be purely for fun and aims at improving your art skills - whether beginner or pro, it doesn't matter :)

But I won't be hosting this alone. RockingScorpion (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?action=profile;u=829) is going to assist me :yes

Well, let's talk facts:

1. There will be a prompt every 2 months for the time being. I have this feeling that one prompt per month might be a bit too stressful for some but if it turns out to be too slow, we can always pick up speed.

The prompt can be a word, a name or a short sentence. Maybe even a quote? Examples could be
... word: Friendship
... name: Mr. Thicknose
... short sentence: The gang is in danger.
... etc.

At any case, there will be a few words to explain the prompt and to give some guidance :)

2. Anybody can participate! The only requirement is, that the artwork is uploaded here on the GoF. Besides, you will need to specify that the drawing was made specially for this contest in the Author's Note of your artwork (no using old artworks! ^^spike). Also, while only one artwork may be entered for voting, we encourage to create more entries if you have more than one idea. In such a case, you will have to state, which one to be voted for though.

3. As far as art mediums go, anything goes. From clay figure to pencil n' paper, from paper folding to digital or a good ol' watercolour painting and anything inbetween :)

4. It would be great if you let us know that you are planning to contribute your artwork so we can determine if we're still expecting more entries or not.

5. Once you've finished your entry, please PM me with a link to the artwork. Please do not use this thread for that. The links to the finished entries will be collected in the masterlist thread (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15345)

6. After the end of each challenge, participants may vote for the best entry based on creativity and quality (creativity should be more important though :)). Voting will be held in the voting thread (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15346) . Of course, voting for yourself is a big nope, nope, nope :smile
The prize for winning will be the permanent feature in the masterlist thread as well as the privilege to come up with the next prompt (if you don't want/don't know what to choose, Rockingscorpion and I will take the turn instead)

We really hope this will help some of you artists out there to improve and have fun expanding your horizon... and I hope it goes better than my last contest (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15175) :angel

If you have questions concerning the contest in general, the voting, the prompt or just anything, this is the place to ask us, yep, yep, yep :)

I will post the first prompt RockingScorpion and I agreed upon shortly. It will always be posted in the masterlist thread (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15345) however it will also be mentioned here.

First prompt for you, let's start easy and get the hang of it, shall we? :)

Draw your favourite character. You may have them interact with other characters of your choice and you are free to draw him/her/them in any scene you like. Be creative :)

I fully intend to take part in this event! Should give me something fun to do while the prompt challenge is going on, and since I've been telling myself I'll get back into drawing, this is the perfect kick in the pants for me! My only question- does it have to be the character as he/she appears in the series, or can it be our interpretation of said character?

If rhombus decided to draw Taunt (just theoretically) from his fanfics, that'd be perfectly fine. If he'd draw Littlefoot as a sharptooth, that'd be just as fine. In other words, yes you can draw them as you interprete them :yes And, OC's are okay too if you happen to have an OC as your favourite character :lol

Uhh, if nobody submits anything until tomorrow, Fyn is going to win by default. How disappointing that would be...

Fanartists, where are you?! rhombus and Fyn's fanfiction challenge is running well and the fanart challenge is a disaster so far  :(petrie

Come on, people! I don't want to win this! I know there are some quality artists out there vastly more deserving of this victory! Where are you?

Looks like I'll have to think of something. I'll talk to RockingScorpion later and see what we'll do with this prompt challenge...

But just let that sink, guys... Fyn is not one of the regular fanartists here yet he's the only one who participated. I'm not sure whether to be sad or angry about it right now. It takes less time to make fanart than write a story in many cases yet... oh I'll stop rambling nvm  <_<

ANNOUNCEMENT

I am going to extend the prompt challenge by another month, hoping that some more artists are going to make a contribution even if it's just a small one. Can I count on you? :)

New deadline will be March 31st 11:59 PM (American Time, I guess)

Remember the prompt is still very simple: Draw your favourite character. You may have them interact with other characters of your choice and you are free to draw him/her/them in any scene you like. Be creative

We have two entries as can be seen in the masterlist

(in case you didn't notice, Darkwolf91 entered this drawing of Mo (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=4874&view=findpost&p=40010109)

I was debating about drawing something too but I wanted to draw something original and didn't really make it to come up with something.

Now there's one problem: We have Fyn and Darkwolf. In case of a voting, both would have to vote for each other, therefore creating a tiebreaker. Now I ask both of you, do you want to have a voting take place (either me and RockingScorpion decide who wins or creating a strawpoll where everyone can vote?) or would you be fine with a tie?

Also, we need to come up with the next prompt. My original idea was that the winner may pick it though we may not have a winner here :p If any of you two have a prompt in mind, send me a PM please. Otherwise, RockingScorpion and I will pick the next one again :yes

I, too, would vote for Darkwolf's picture.

I've now got the conformation of both entrants that they're ok with a tie so there will not be a voting this time :)

Again, I ask you two to let me know if you have any ideas for the next prompt until the end of the week. Otherwise, RockingScorpion and I will decide for the next one again :)

Oooh, I have an idea! How about "draw a background character?" These are characters in the movies or TV show that don't really say anything (one or two quick lines at most) but appear in the background to add diversity. I think it would inspire people to look at the largely ignored characters of the series, and maybe even give them stories of their own :D

I could get behind that idea! Perhaps I can give my Elsie idea a try.

Okay, I'll make it official then.

The new prompt is to draw a background character. These are characters in the movies or TV show that don't really say anything (one or two quick lines at most) but appear in the background to add diversity.

suggested by DarkWolf91, good one  :p

Since the first round has already taken too long and we're already in the middle of April, I propose that we'll let this run for a few weeks and then I'll ask whether anybody is still working on their contribution and deciding thereupon how long this second round will take, okay?

Hoping for more participation this time and I'll try to get my lazy butt on an entry too this time  :bang  :lol

PS: Oh, and I think Elsie would count as such a character even though she has a little more than just 1-2 lines but characters like Mo, Ali etc. would be too much "Foreground"? I dunno

Post by: Sneak on April 20, 2017, 05:31:27 PM
background character? I have one. VERY SPECIAL one...
(does it count if he appears only in 6 seconds in single movie?)
Title: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on April 20, 2017, 06:49:44 PM
Yes, that counts. In fact, that's exactly the kind of character we are looking for now :)

Yes, I think Elsie could slide since we don't know anything about her backstory and she only appeared in one scene, but I do think Mo/Ali/other recurring characters who were central to their movie plots have a bit too much story and personality already associated with them for this prompt. They are more like "supporting characters" than "background characters" :D

EDIT: And I would also say that most of the sharpteeth "villians" can be included in this prompt too... since they don't technically have speaking lines we can understand :lol

Hmmmmm, that's true. While I would prefer to see people draw more minor characters, I think Sharptooth would technically be allowed, seeing as there is almost no official information regarding his history, motive, personality (other than obsessive and bloodthirsty, haha), etc. In a lot of ways he is treated more like a malignant.force of nature than an actual character, which is an issue that many people have addressed in fanfiction :D

fail
it was just a joke.

Sharptooth is one of seven main characters in original movie. Of course, calling his "backgroud character" will cause his anger toward you. You don't want he comes for you, right?

In case of doubt, the Rock Circle is the place to go... if it's more like a project, maybe the projects forum? A quick PM to one of the admins is usually helpful too (I can tell you I had quite a few of them when asking where to put my Civ 4 story :lol) rhombus and nick are most active so chances are highest if you contact them :yes

I am still looking for someone to co-host this with me, now that RockingScorpion is no longer active on the forums. I'm good at getting things started but keeping deadlines and all that is not my cup of tea so I need someone who helps me with that :p

That being said, all this time I was basically waiting for The Lone Dragon to finish the drawing he had started as well as hoping I would perhaps get around to draw something. Now I will put a final deadline that won't be extended:

While we still wait for the last entry... I've been talking to DarkWolf91 about the future of this challenge and she had some pretty good ideas to offer. Let me share them here for discussion :)

Quote
Well, I really like the way the Fanfic prompt challenge is set up this year with the prompt list posted in advance. I think we should do something like this starting January, as it allows people to plan in advance what prompts they may want to do, and also we could get feedback beforehand on the list and take member suggestions. Also I think it would be neat to allow some kind of tie-in to the the fanfic prompt challenge in which participants could draw a scene or character from one of the previous fanfic prompt responses. That idea is more of a work in progress though, and it's not too fleshed out. As for awards, I'm not too sure yet. We could do some sort of badges like the fanfic challenge is doing, but then we might overload people's signatures, haha
So, thoughts? :lol Also, I realize we could still get one more prompt done until next year. Are there any requests concerning prompts for this one? For instance, I could picture something winter-related :)

PS: Oh, and one more thing: I kind of lost track of the submission due to... well, the sheer amount of time that has passed :p I remember DarkWolf91 submitting something for sure and I could swear it was somebody else too... Fyn?  :angel
Title: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on November 04, 2017, 04:00:07 PM
The fanfiction season 2 format does seem to make a lot more sense from an organizational standpoint. The tie in with the fanfic was something that crossed my mind as well. It could be interesting to see people's interpretations and it might kick me in the butt to start reading some of them.

A winter themed prompt to end 2017 would be cool and can be pushed back to January's prompt if need be.

Just a reminder: Last day to enter!

(and I made it in time :o )

We still haven't come to a conclusion concerning how to lay out our future prompts. Should we have our own prompts, follow the prompts of the fanfic prompt challenge and/or draw fanart for one of the entries there or anything inbetween? Having more than one option certainly isn't bad to increase participation :smile

Also, I still need to talk to rhombus about this but maybe we could use these award banners here too?

Would like to hear your opinions :)

Post by: Flathead770 on December 31, 2017, 05:58:05 PM
I think some of the fanfiction prompts would work but others seem a little too specific or hard to translate into a drawing. Here's the fanfiction prompt schedule:

--------------------------------------
January 2018 (January 1 – February 15)
Incorporate the following into your story: ”He (or she) had once imagined becoming the leader of the herd. But not like this… not like this.”

February 2018 (February 1 – March 15)
Write a story about "undying love." What exactly this means is up to you.

March 2018 (March 1 – April 15)
Write a myth or legend set in the Land Before Time universe

April 2018 (April 1 – May 15)
Nothing to see here, folks. Move on! :DD

May 2018 (May 1 – June 15)
Incorporate the following phrase into your story: “when the bright circle rose the next day, it rose over a very different Great Valley.”

June 2018 (June 1 – July 15)
Everyone writes a prompt of their own choosing, then the prompts are shuffled and redistributed back to the writers. The writers must then do a story based on their new prompt!

July 2018 (July 1 – August 15)
Your theme for this month: there comes a time in everyone's life where a choice must be made, one which may irreversibly alter the path ahead.

August 2018 (August 1 – September 15)
Goodbyes are never easy. Write a story about a parting.
-------------------------------------

Prompts like January, May, and July seem like they would be really hard to do. February seems reasonable and March and August could maybe be done but will probably be harder. The June idea could still work as well. Overall I would think keeping the prompt ideas for drawing to be a bit more on the simpler side of things

I do like the idea of drawing fanart from a fanfiction response (though it would be best if we drew the previous fanfiction prompt responses then we wouldn't have to wait). It might be cool to always have this option as a substitute if there is ever a fanfiction that you would want to do fanart of.

Yeah, having responses to previous fanfiction prompt entries as a substitute is what I would advocate for as well. And I also agree that the prompts shouldn't be too specific. I mean, a prompt like "Littlefoot" might be a bit too generic but something like "draw Littlefoot as he becomes leader of a big herd" would be too specific.

Either way, it looks like we're the only two who submitted a drawing so there will be a tie and no winner :P

Whoops! Sorry I've been a bit quiet on this front. Yeah, I was thinking that the "draw fanart of one of the fanfic prompt responses" could just be a constant alternate option, and I don't think it should be limited to the previous month, as sometimes there's only one or two responses. Fanart for any response would be fine, I think.

As for the prompt list, I could try to write up a beta version tomorrow, if you'd like? Then I can post it here for feedback.

Ok! After much ado, Ducky and I have finally decided on the prompt list for the Fanart challenge! The prompts will change bi-monthly, and are as follows:

Jan/Feb - Draw a scene from a future LBT movie.

March/April- How do you imagine the great valley celebrating the end of the cold time?

May/June- Draw an OC.

July/Aug- Daily life/Survival.

Sept/Oct - Draw your least favorite character.

Nov/Dec - Draw something related to the Time of Great Giving.

*NEW* There will also be a constant side-choice that you can choose instead of the bi-monthly prompts. You can draw a scene of your choice from any previous entry to the Fanfiction prompt challenge, or from the ongoing "LBT Roleplay in the style of the original movie" RP, found in the Land Before Time RPG section.

Which means we're now into the Jan/Feb prompt- draw a scene from a future LBT movie! Basically anything you want the gang to go through is fair game. They can be older if you want, and you can draw as many or few characters as you want in the scene. Have fun!

Let me know if anyone has any questions/concerns about the list!

Hmmm those sure are some interesting prompts and seem like they'll require a good amount of creativity! I...might have a crazy idea for the first prompt. I guess we'll find out if i can pull it off or not.

"Undying Love?" Very interesting. I did write a Ducky x Petrie story called "Secret Love," but I can't count that because I wrote it last summer. However, after reading through the epilogue again, I do have a good idea ...

So I guess we're at the 2 week mark for the first 2018 prompt deadline. Has any one else started or planning on participating? I've slowly but surely have been making progress on mine. I'm hoping to have it pretty much finished over this coming weekend (it's a long weekend for me).

I do plan to participate but I have been struggling with my art in some ways in recent weeks. Might end up being a smaller entry but I'll definitely give it a try again :)

But yeah, I would love to see some competition :(

Just a reminder, there's two days left to submit your entry if you have one in planning stage. Is anyone besides Flathead even working on something?

As for me, exams are torturing me this week so I'm not sure I can make something up on the spot... haven't really had any ideas but I'll figure something out and if it's just a sketch!

EDIT: And what do you know... here (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=11596.msg463404#msg463404) you go  :sducky  :sducky  :sducky  :sducky  :sducky

Well, the first round of 2018 is over with two participating artworks again. Sadly one too few to enable voting but maybe next time we'll make it? Don't hesitate to join, quality is not what we're looking for here (although of course, you should give it your very best :P)but creativity and new ideas! I think my entry is justice to the truth of this statement :angel

Anyway, the next prompt is:

How do you imagine the great valley celebrating the end of the cold time?

Looking forward to see what you can come up with, yep yep yep :)

All good DarkWolf! It seems we're always fated to get only 2 submissions in per prompt :lol

I second Ducky as well and openly encourage anyone to join in, even if it's stick figures. Heck, if you only want to draw shipping between Littlefoot & Ali but the prompt is to draw an OC character then draw the OC character being a third wheel. :p

As for the next prompt, I might already have an idea for it. This time I think I'm going to relax a little on 'cramming lots of characters in' front.

oops I forgot to make the official announcement :P

So, we had two entries (as always, I'm to blame this time :P) so there won't be any voting. However, both entries met the prompt splendidly, good work guys! :DD

Anyone planning on participating in the next one? Honestly, I'm not sure myself since my artistic motivation is a little non-existent atm :P But we'll see...

New Prompt: May/June- Draw an OC.

Oc stands for "Own Character," right?

How free am I in the invention of a character? Does it have to be similar to the dinosaurs in "The Land Before Time", or can it be different? Can it also be something unrealistic? Can it even be something completely different than a dinosaur? In which scope can I still participate?

Maybe I can give it a try.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on May 31, 2018, 07:17:18 PM
I believe it stands for 'Original Character' so it doesn't specifically have to be your own character. I'm not sure on the rules but if you do decide on someone's OC it's a good idea to get permission first to be safe.

For the next question I'm not entirely sure but I imagine it should be within the standard LBT universe so nothing too wild (though drawing a dino species not shown in LBT before would probably be fine).

If you do join that would be awesome! So far I'm the only one whose announced that they're working on this prompt so far so it would be great to see someone else join in! :smile
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on June 02, 2018, 04:09:02 PM
OC means that you may draw any character (provided it is somehow related to LBT obviously) that is not canon, which means that you may not draw any character that appears in the movies and the tv-series. It means, as flathead pointed out, that you may draw an original character for this prompt. Whether it's a character you created or a character someone else came up with, doesn't matter (however I'd advice to ask the creator just to be safe :) )
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: LeventeII on June 02, 2018, 07:56:42 PM
It must not be a direct character from LBT, but it must be something that could match LBT.
Am I understanding this right? So it must have something to do with dinosaurs?

Does it have to be a real species, or is it allowed to invent an own one?
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on June 03, 2018, 07:06:47 PM
that's a difficult question hmm... the story has to play in the LBT universe yes but I wouldn't know why you shouldn't create your own species for this. Obviously something like a lion or tiger-like species wouldn't really make sense but, generally speaking, I'd be rather curious what you can come up with there :)

So, in short, I'm fine with an invented species as long as it fits into the LBT universe. If you're not sure feel free to ask me/show me what you have in mind :)

How is everyone's drawings coming along? I know Flathead is pretty close to finishing his entry but otherwise haven't heard from anyone. If any deadlines need to be extended, you've just got to let me know

(To be frank, considering I barely made it to the planning stage and some terrible sketches so far, it'd make my own progress a lot less stressful :lol )

Well, we don't have all entries uploaded yet (yours truly is guilty as always, still need to colour my background :angel) but already now we can safely say to have 6 wonderful entries to review and vote on! How awesome is that? :wow

So far, this challenge has constantly suffered from either me or Darkwolf dropping out due to time restrictions or lack of ideas (or skills in my case :angel) thus ending up at only two entries. I'm so glad this has finally changed at least for this time! :)littlefoot

So, what now? Well, as soon as all entries are up (I think noone is going to be mad if we wait for all entries to be submitted :angel) I'll open voting and all 6 participants will be entitled to vote for everyone but themselves (obviously :OhYou ), if possible with a short explanation of your choice :)

On a related note, the next prompt is already open, so feel free to start brainstorming! Would be amazing to get more than 2 submissions again next time, yep yep yep :yes

Anyway, here's the next prompt as a reminder:

July/Aug- Daily life/Survival.

As always, the following is an option as well:

You can draw a scene of your choice from any previous entry to the Fanfiction prompt challenge, or from the ongoing "LBT Roleplay in the style of the original movie" RP, found in the Land Before Time RPG section.

If you have questions, this thread is the place to ask them  :exactly

There's a very real chance that I'm going to need an extension to get mine finished. I started it fairly late so if you feel like joining in don't hesitate! (Plus, if I'm the only one participating then I'm sure Ducky will be fine with it)

And all levels of quality are suitable for participation, it's all about having fun with this! :DD
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

Post by: Ducky123 on September 01, 2018, 09:52:26 PM
Deadline extended until Sept.15th!

Neither Flathead nor I are done yet (nor anyone else unless I missed an entry?) so it wouldn't make much sense to close this round with no entries at all  :sducky

The next prompt is open from now on as well by the way. It is: Sept/Oct - Draw your least favorite character.

Kinda expecting more participation on that one  :lol As always, drawing a scene from the ongoing LBT roleplay or drawing a scene from one of the previous fanfic prompt challenge entries is available as an alternative option :)

PS: @zero-point we are still waiting for you to vote  :OhYou
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

So... today is the deadline and I've been working for 6-7 hours on my entry and now I'm fired out. Gotta have to submit late I'm afraid. Ugh, whenever deadlines approach art starts feeling like a chore :(

Anyway, I had enough time and didn't use it. And I was stupid enough to take on a time-intensive project again... a short comic with 12 frames. Only started drawing the actual frames today because I was struggling really hard getting decent sketches done. It's about half done now but... I might need a few more days, sorry. :(

Hmm so who's all joining in on the current prompt? Darkwolf you said you might join in on this one? I sort of have an idea myself that I'm finally starting to work out so hopefully I can finish in a reasonable time.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on October 03, 2018, 12:50:51 PM
Do you want to wait voting on the last one or start without my semi-finished comic? I'm fine either way, I'm not doing this to win but I'm clearly halting the process here.

And on a related note, this contest really needs someone in charge who isn't lax as me. We haven't even started voting (and I think we're still waiting for zero to vote on the previous previous one? I won't count it after the 10th now for sure!) and the next prompt is due in a month :sducky With me unable to draw until mid-october (vacation ^^) and having to finish the old one so at least I can show it... well, it'll be tough if it has to be an original idea of mine. (Not to mention that I kinda wanna do Inktober again this year...)
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

And we'll have to discuss what rewards winners are supposed to get. We'll have another round of voting soon.

Anyway the results of the "OC prompt" are

Darkwolf91: 2
Ducky123: 1
Leventell: 1
Zero-point: 1
Flathead: 1

Thus DarkWolf is the winner, whohoo! :celebrate

Looks like @Flathead770 is the default winner this time around, as he was the only entrant! The new prompt is active, and is as follows:

Nov/Dec - Draw something related to the Time of Great Giving.

OR, as always, you can draw a scene of your choice from any previous entry to the Fanfiction prompt challenge, or from the ongoing "LBT Roleplay in the style of the original movie" RP, found in the Land Before Time RPG section.

This is the final prompt of the year! Hopefully we can re-vamp this challenge next year to be a little more appealing. If anyone has any suggestions for changes they'd like to see implemented in the future, please feel free to post them here or message me :smile

Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on November 03, 2018, 06:40:07 PM
For the Daily Life/Survival prompt I think it was just LeventeII and myself who participated in that one, so no vote would take place.

I also forgot to congratulate you Darkwolf on your win for the OC prompt, so congrats! :smile
I guess I have a win now as well. Yay? :p

Already on the final prompt for the year. Man time flies. I already have a basic idea for this one and have a small amount planned out. Hoping to end this year on a good one!

As for ideas, I know that a requirement for the fanfiction prompt is to post it on FF.net to pull in people. We could do the same with DA or something? The issue with that though is that this prompt already seems to be pretty intimidating, adding an extra requirement could end up hurting it more. It could help with drawing in more artists to the GoF though (maybe).

I once tried to hold a contest on the LBT fanclub there which is monitored by gof members (aka. for a  long while now just me) and participating was similar to the fanart prompt but died down after the second round.

But the idea itself is not half bad.

While we're continuing to work on our last prompts (I hope you guys are :) ), I would like to ask.

Are there any prompts you would like to see in next year's prompt list? DarkWolf and I will have to do some brainstorming eventually but it'd be easier having some suggestions from everyone, participant or not :)

(Either way, due to the success of the OC prompt I think that one might return :D)

I also have an idea for a possible award banner for this challenge that won't take up too much signature space, and might be a fun incentive. Details coming soon :P

I mentioned this a while back on discord, but drawing a sort of movie poster could be a whacky fun thing to do :p

As for this prompt, I started strong but as the way things are going now I'm almost certain going to go past the deadline. Haven't even finished the lineart, let alone colouring it in yet. Plus Smash is coming out to divert my attention as well as being gone for a week to visit the family over Christmas...darn it's going to be tough haha.

So we've got movie poster as a suggestion so far, really like it :) Could be with a twist too to design a poster of a fanfic (or make that two prompts! :P )

I'm proposing doing the OC prompt again too.

That's two possible prompts, any other ideas? I'd like to have a full list ready by 1/1/19 :)

(also, are we expecting any submissions for the last prompt of 2k18? I'm sorta trying to come up with something myself right now :P Deadline can be extended if it means more submissions, just ask. )

As you know I'm working on mine but will be late submitting (by hopefully not too long haha)

OC one seems like a given due to it's high participation.

Haven't really come up with anything yet with being busy with Christmas and family. Hopefully I can come up with something else to add to the list.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

That would be great!

I think I have some ideas by now but it doesn't sit well with me to decide them all on my own. At least if I don't hear from DarkWolf until New Years I'd like to hear your critical thoughts when I do release a preliminary list. At any case I'd put a prompt in for January/February which I do not doubt so people can get started in time.

PS: We'll have a voting for the last round of 2018, we'll have at least 3 submissions confirmed, even if one of them is coming late, it's absolutely fine! :)
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: LeventeII on December 28, 2018, 10:47:48 PM
I got the idea that we could make a promt to draw a portrait that contains something specific, for example a character.
I think the OC prompt should be again in summer. I had a lot of free time then which helped me a lot. But that's not important.  :)

In my opinion the prompts should not be too negative. For example, I don't like to try for something I don't like. So it was with me and the September/October prompt. But nevertheless I am open for everything and I am looking forward to next year's prompts and great drawings!  :)

I think it's safe to say that OC will return, and yes I agree summer works best for that one :)

The final prompt list for 2019 has been decided upon!!! Things aren't changing much from last year, we'll keep the 2-month duration for every prompt and continue to allow extensions of the deadline if such a request is being made in time. Also it is still always an option to draw a scene from any fanfiction submitted to the fanfiction prompt challenge or draw a scene from one of the ongoing LBT RPs!
:^^spike
The only change really is that from now on there'll be a short and a long prompt which both describe the same prompt but either as a short one-word prompt or a more descriptive one. It seems this has proven to be very useful for the fanfiction prompt challenge so we are adapting that now :)

Either way, here is the full list! The first prompt of 2019 is open from now on! Let's get creative folks!  :Mo

Jan/Feb

One word prompt: Movie Poster

Descriptive Prompt: Draw a potential movie poster for any of the existing movies/tv-series episodes, for any future sequels or a fanfiction of your choice!

Mar/Apr

One Word Prompt: Love/Family

Descriptive Prompt: Draw something portraiting the theme of Love and/or Family. From a romantic sunset to the everyday life of a family, everything goes!

May/Jun

One Word Prompt: Out of Character

Descriptive Prompt: We all have these moments when we're not ourselves. Draw a scene of any LBT character acting in a way that's unexpected of them, in a way they usually wouldn't act, be it a tame Cera or a smart Yellowbelly!

Until which day will the deadline be extended? I have already started, but I'm not sure how much time I still need. Is it possible to extend it until the weekend? If not, then I wouldn't colorize it so I can save some time.

I only got a concept for my entry together last week and haven't had any time to work on it yet. Can we say extend it until next Sunday? That'd give me two weekends to try figure out the poses. :smile

Looks like only me is still holding up the Jan/Feb prompt. I've begun coloring yesterday and should be done by the end of this week. Still, I shall submit a preliminary picture of the lineart.

Anyone already on the next prompt?

Hello! :D

I'm relatively new to the fanart prompt, but would like to continue participating in future editions. However, I am not a big fan of the voting section of the prompts. To me personally, participating and creating should be more important than picking a favorite in the end. I prefer to join in for fun, and not necessarily to have my work judged or compared to others. Especially since the fanart prompts are meant to improve your own art style, comparing it to what others have created just doesn't make much sense.

I want to propose removing the voting part from the fanart prompts, instead promoting participation. It's still nice to receive and give feedback and we can still discuss this in one central topic if that is preferred, though feedback in the individual topics could also suffice. Instead of voting for the 'best' piece of art, we could reward everyone who joins with a badge or banner for their signature, much like the singing projects back in the day. Ducky suggested we could have a banner that you can upgrade, so that it indicates how often you have joined in the prompts for a certain year. We could even use art made in the beginning of that year to use as the basis for the banners, and we could also decide on retro-actively creating banners for the previous years.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion for now. I'd like to hear your opinion and suggestions, to hopefully make this more enjoyable for everyone! :)

We've talked a little on discord about this idea and I think it's not a bad shot at all. Provided the other regular participants do not object (and, in particular, Erica who is helping me out running this) then we could really consider changing the format. I am certainly open to it, yep yep yep :)
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on April 08, 2019, 11:23:12 PM
I've talked to both of you a bit on this on Discord now so you probably are aware of my stance on this but I'll make it official.

I am in agreement with this change. I've never cared too much about the voting part and was more interested in coming up with fanart and seeing what others do as well (and we've only had enough participation on 3 prompts to allow for voting anyways so it's not like we'd be missing that much). I can see how the voting could be a deterrent so if this change will make others want to join in as well then I'm all for it.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

I think that's a great idea! The voting doesn't really add too much to the prompts. I've been thinking about a way to do banners for this, and I like the idea of using artwork from the prompts for it. We'll just have to decide on a way to make them 'upgradable' based on participation.

Awesome! Well, I think we have a majority now to go ahead with it.

In terms of making them upgradeable... Perhaps we could do something similar to the Fanfiction awards banner, just indicate a number of submissions for that year? I can't think of anything more creative, but am open to other ideas!

Okay, I haven't received any inquiries for extentions so I'll consider the March/April prompt completed here (I still need to colour mine but I submitted... the lineart at least :D)

It seemed to me that nobody has any objections against cancelling the voting system so no voting will be held (although we should work on our participation banner concept a little more so we can hand out those soon :) )

The new prompt is hereby open

May/Jun

One Word Prompt: Out of Character

Descriptive Prompt: We all have these moments when we're not ourselves. Draw a scene of any LBT character acting in a way that's unexpected of them, in a way they usually wouldn't act, be it a tame Cera or a smart Yellowbelly!

On another note, this contest will be hosted on deviantART as well starting with this prompt. You can thank @Mumbling for this development and I'll announce it on the official LBT Fanclub we're running on there soon. Those of you who are on deviantART please consider submitting your entries to the site as well so we can give them some exposture in the group's gallery as well (and those of you who aren't on there, you can consider joining or giving Mumbling permission to upload them on DeviantART through the group account which had been used to upload fanart from GoF members to the group before many years ago). This development will not have any impact on the prompt challenge here on the forum, it's just in the hope to spark some more LBT fanart from some of those amazing artists on that site who aren't members of the forum :)

NOTE: masterlist not up to date yet, will get to that soon.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Mumbling on May 02, 2019, 04:35:32 AM
Hmm I'll still have to think of something for this prompt. Nothing that comes to mind right away.

Just linking to the DeviantArt group in case people want to join and perhaps submit previous entries for the prompts: https://www.deviantart.com/lbtfanclub

It'd be really cool if you could make a mention of the GoF or link to the forum in the description of your art work! No requirements of course, but we have noticed that the Fanfiction Prompts have led a lot of new members to the forum, and we'd love for the Fanart Prompts to have the same influence! :)

Just curious if anyone is planning on joining in on this prompt? Mines gonna end up being fairly minimal but I should have something done in time.

As for DA, I've made the incredible stride of making an account but still haven't actually uploaded anything :p
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on June 13, 2019, 04:57:35 PM
I haven't been on DA in ages... and I'm not sure if I'll become active there again. After not being there in a while, I feel no desire to go there again since usually I've just wasted time trying to stay up to date with things lol

Anyway, I'm not sure if I will submit something. I definitely want to but... I dunno, art never quite works out for me and I'll probably end up not coloring it again :sducky:

So I was thinking about potential banners earlier this week and got inspired by the fanfiction banners that DH has made, but slightly adapted to our needs. Here's my suggestion for a Fanart Prompt 2019 banner, with tree stars that can be filled depending on which prompts you have participated in for the year.

Let me know what you guys think!

Oh yes, this banner should be seen separately from the awards (if that is the vote you are referring to). It is moreso a participation trophy :yes

There's so many good artists there, I wonder why here's little entries for prompt.

Yesterday I thought about an idea: what about making one big collab picture? Everyone will take their specific part of planned picture, everyone would draw with his own style his character/background element, but at the end everything will be neatly combined to single one.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Mumbling on June 16, 2019, 12:23:42 PM
^ I guess it just takes too much time for most people to join into these prompts. However, people from all skill levels are welcome to join!

A collab picture sounds like a fun idea, but might be difficult to coordinate. If others think that it is a good idea too, I can create a separate topic for that.

@Flathead770 is something like the attached picture preferable?
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on June 17, 2019, 01:44:35 AM
Yeah Iris I think that looks a lot better personally!  :smile

A collab idea has been brought up before but as Iris mentioned coordinating would be a fairly big challenge. An issue with me would be that I mostly deal with traditional art and a collab would require it to be digital. Using Inkscape I've been able to create emotes fairly well but any changes that I want to do require me to either redraw my drawing by hand or try to modify it with a mouse and both of them sound undesirable for any larger scale drawing.

That being said I still am up for the idea of a collaboration (specifically the idea for the collab that came up when Rhombus wanted an image of the gang on the edge of a cliff looking over the Great Valley)

Yeah I can if you want. As far as I know I'm the only one working on it (though Levente usually sneaks his way in :lol )

Do you just want to see what I'm drawing for inspiration? If so it would probably be best to do it on a DM or something.

@Mumbling I had this weird idea of drawing the gang with a twist for this prompt: They're all villains and looking really badass  :bestsharptooth Then again, this might be taking it a bit too far haha and it's way too complicated haha

If noone's taking evil Ducky, I might try drawing that notorious scene from Search For Sky Color Stones haha but I'm too busy to make something good in time either way so feel free to take it for now  :^^spike

I don't want to seem as if I'm doing everything at the last minute, but time is against me right now. Fortunately the school holidays have started and I was able to make a sketch. I would like to try the actual drawing in the next few days. I'm not sure if it will work the way I want it to, so I can't say 100% whether I will be able to participate. Could the deadline be extended by one week? That would take a lot of pressure off me.  :)

While Levente is finishing up his May/June prompt I suppose I will post the next prompt for those who may be interested (since Ducky and Darkwolf are both fairly inactive at the moment).

Jul/Aug

One Word Prompt: Draw an OC

Descriptive Prompt: Those who have been competing last year already know the drill. Draw an original character in whatever situation/environment you want. If you use someone else's original character, it is advised to ask them for permission first  :exactly

I'm personally not too sure on this one. I got lucky with drawing an OC last year and may not come up with an idea for this year. That being said though this prompt was one of the most active we had last year so I'm curious to see who will join. Is anyone thinking about joining in on the fun for this one?

yes, I'm indeed super active atm  :opetrie

thanks for taking the initiative @Flathead770 ! Late entries are permitted although you won't see any entry of mine. Just not feeling like drawing. I mean, I did start something but I'm just not happy with it.

For those curious

Spoiler: ShowHide
Super smug Littlefoot + Cera admiring him

Dialogue: Cera: "Longnecks are just so GREAT at everything!"
Littlefoot: Yes, and I'm the best!"

Feel free to draw that lol  :PAli

I'm thinking about the OC prompt though since I have a few OCs to call mine and a bit of time on my hands for once

I will certainly participate again! But it won't be as creative as it was last year. At least it won't be a hybrid.  :p

I already started with sketches, but unfortunately the results were more than disappointing. :( I'll try it again, but if it doesn't work out I will have to try something else. But in the end something should be done by me, at least that's what I want. :)

I've done some copying and pasting and made a little Cera banner for 2018. If you have participated in the prompts last year, you should have received a banner through a PM. Please let me know if I missed you or any of your submissions! The art you submitted for each prompt should be highlighted in green, showing in which months you participated :)

Amazing, thank you very much, Iris! :DD

I'm debating which OC of mine to draw. Right now I feel most confident at drawing longnecks (and anime stuff ^^) but I've already done Cho and Lizzie isn't that much different tbh... Sucky is an option ( @Flathead770 I seem to recall you drawing Sucky last year?) and Thursel of course but I hardly even established her in my story before it went on hiatus... ugh :P

Thank you to everyone who participated in the last fanart prompt! Had a pretty good turnout. I should hopefully have mine up later today as well. In the meantime, here's the next prompt!

Sep/Oct

One Word Prompt: Hurt/Fear

Descriptive Prompt: The world is not always a happy place. Not every adventure goes according to plan, not every person you meet has your best intentions in mind. Draw a scene which incorporates the theme of "Hurt" and/or "Fear"

Might lead to some interesting ideas. Looking forward to seeing what people come up with!
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on September 09, 2019, 01:00:33 AM
Since we're getting close to the end of the year I figure it's time to start thinking about what prompts to have for next year. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please feel free to bring them up! Even if you don't normally participate you can still throw one out there (though I think it's fair that the people who do participate have priority when it comes down to choices in the end considering they are the ones doing the drawing). Don't be afraid of coming up with some crazy ones too as they can allow for some nice creativity (life the movie poster prompt from earlier this year)

This will be my first time organizing the prompts for the year so any help would be great!

Haha maybe! Though I only made the Loofah emote as an April Fools joke (I had submitted the idea for the emote contest but it only got one vote haha)

An emote prompt could be neat, but emotes are a lot simpler of a drawing since it's only the face so 2 months to draw it could be overkill (not to mention we already had the emote contest as well). Something to think about at least!

Looks like Flathead is slowly taking my place because I'm not really active on the forum anymore haha. I'm 95% certain I won't participate in the current prompt but I'll try something for the last prompt at the end of the year. I thought of this idea at one point or another but never got around to it. I had the idea of making an almost comic/graphic novel style drawing. Nothing terribly long, maybe 4 to 8 frames or something.

Kinda like this:

I really wanted to participate in the OC prompt but my drawing motivation  is near zero these days.
No problem Ducky! Good to see you poking your head in every now and then at least! :smile

^Ooh, I like the comic/graphic novel idea. We could do that one in the new year, perhaps?
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: ImpracticalDino on September 12, 2019, 02:12:35 AM
^I concur. But yeah, if this fanart prompt challenge idea comes to fruition, someone has to do a comic starring Sharptooth and The Lone Dinosaur! :lol

Yeah, yeah. Pretty obvious and cliche, right? But still, what's a comic without a classic hero and villain combo? :yes

As an alternative, perhaps a recreation of the battle between Littlefoot's Mother and Sharptooth, but in comic book style would also be such a cool idea. :)

That could be an idea. It would be up to the individual that's drawing it whether they go for recreating scenes from either the movies, TV series, fanfictions , or something new on the spot. I think the idea has a large amount of versatility.

I like the comic idea (although I don't like how much time that will probably take, lol)

Here's some random ideas floating through my head:

Post by: Flathead770 on September 14, 2019, 10:59:12 PM
Ok, those are all pretty darn good ideas! I'm sure one or two of those will be used for next year for sure.  :)littlefoot

I've already mentioned it to you Iris, but I think since the video game one is already a form of crossover it could be included with the more generic crossover idea.

Awesome stuff though! I'll try and come up with a couple more as well.

I like the comic idea :DD

Here a suggestion of mine: Imagine a cut scene from any LBT movie or episode from the tv-series.

Looks like there's less then a week until the official deadline for the Hurt/Fear prompt. Anyone been working on it? Stardust I know you said you were trying for this entry. How's it coming so far?

Mine still needs a good amount of work so I might have to leave it somewhat rough but we'll see. Was mostly preoccupied with other things this past so I didn't get much done.

Let me know if one of you will be needing a bit of extra time as well.  :)littlefoot

@Flathead770 rhombus: Yes please. Normally I wouldn't ask this, but is there any chance the deadline could be extended a little (and still get the medal for it)? I do have a drawing for the Hurt/Fear prompt I'd like to share, but I've been super-busy this month and I just need one more week to get it done.

Yes that's all good. In fact I've been late on numerous occasions and probably will be for this one as well. Just getting an update from people.

For future reference, there's no need to tag rhombus in this as well as I'm tentatively taking care of the fanart prompts until either Ducky or Darkwolf want to take it back over again.

Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on November 01, 2019, 11:16:59 PM
While all of us are trying to get our prompts finished, I'll put up the new one for anyone looking to get started on it.

Nov/Dec
One Word Prompt: Humanization
Descriptive Prompt: Haven't you all been wondering what the Gang would look like in our human world? For this prompt, it is your task to design as many LBT characters as you want in a human form. Let's get creative!

I'm going to be completely honest, I have no motivation for this prompt. For those who might not be aware though, each prompt has a substitute option that you can opt to do instead of the current prompt, which is:

You can draw a scene of your choice from any previous entry to the Fanfiction prompt challenge, or from the ongoing "LBT Roleplay in the style of the original movie" RP, found in the Land Before Time RPG section.

It came up as a prompt idea but there were concerns about if it has to be the current fanfiction prompt and people may still be writing it, also some people aren't into the fanfiction side of things as well. So the idea was in place to leave it as a permanent option. Might try and go this route for this one.

Good luck for anyone trying this one as you'd be way more creative then me!

Cool! I made a lil' something but I don't think I can get it finished due to my physical problems. Might submit it later this year if things finally go my way :)
I mentioned this to you on Discord already, but due to issues with your thumb, if you still want to slowly work on the prompt and finish it later then I'm fine with that! :smile Just don't work it too hard.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on November 05, 2019, 03:39:02 PM
I've been the one to squeeze the humanization prompt in so I've GOTTA join that one xD

I hope that I can submit my drawing within a week. I'm not planning to make it big or coloured, might go for pencil only and try some shading, we'll see :)

EDIT: I was talking about the previous prompt here
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on November 05, 2019, 07:02:49 PM
I'm hoping to get mine done by the end of this week as well. Managed to finally get an idea for the background so I just need to work that out then I'm good.

Cool! I made a lil' something but I don't think I can get it finished due to my physical problems. Might submit it later this year if things finally go my way :)
Wow you go and say this then show us all up by having it done faster then any of us  :PCera

I regret the use of my thumb last weekend, it's really been acting up the last few days. Always when I think it is getting better I instantly overwork it :( But at least I got it done. Worth it? :P

Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

Can we warp the prompt a little and focus on the first bit?

Quote
Haven't you all been wondering what the Gang would look like in our human world?

I'm no good with drawing humans, but would enjoy drawing the dinosaurs among humans/in our civilization.

Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

I might pass on the Hurt/Fear prompt. My drawing did not turn out the way I wanted at all, and I don't have the mental energy right now to try and re-do it. Sorry. :(

I'll try again for next time, though.

Edit: Actually, this might be salvageable. If I have time tomorrow I may give it another go.

Alright, time for the prompt list for 2020! Thanks to Iris for coming up with so many good ones!  :)littlefoot

Jan/Feb: Villains off-duty: Sharptooth just had a lovely meal. What is he going to do in his time off? (Other villains also welcome)

Mar/Apr: Crossover: Let your mind wander to another show or video game. Which characters will the gang meet there or create a scene of what game you would like to see with LBT characters.

May/June: Comic: Create a short comic/graphic novel strip to depict a scene or short story, whether it's your own re-imagining from the movies, a part from a fanfic (make sure to get permission first), or your own custom story!

July/Aug: Book cover: Create a book cover for your favorite book, with LBT characters! Alternatively: draw a cover for a LBT fanfic (make sure to ask the author for permission first)!

Sept/Oct: Stuck in school: The school year has started again and Mr. Thicknose has created such interesting lessons. Draw the characters in a school situation.

Nov/Dec: Unlikely friendship: Which two characters would likely never get along? In your imagination, they are bffs!

And as always, you can instead opt to do this prompt instead for any of them: You can draw a scene of your choice from any previous entry to the Fanfiction prompt challenge, or from the ongoing "LBT Roleplay in the style of the original movie" RP, found in the Land Before Time RPG section.

Looking forward to seeing what people come up with! :DD

A reminder to anyone else who might be participating that the official deadline for the current humanization prompt will be Jan 31!
Don't worry Stardust, I'm also going to be late as well. The 9 days of vacation I had for Christmas threw me off potentially hitting the deadline and I need to get my motivation back. Hopefully I can have it done before Jan 9 when the expansion for Monster Hunter gets released :lol

@Ducky123 How are your drawings coming along btw? You're reaching the 2 month overdue for the hurt/fear prompt. Not sure if I should be extending it indefinitely. Let me know when you might have it done please.

Sounds good Ducky, I'll make sure to pester you a bit more about it down the road  :PCera

Alright it's the new year, which means 2019's prompts are now (almost) over and done with. Since I picked up taking over the prompts in the middle of 2019 I just want to thank everyone who has participated in all of these prompts throughout the year, from all the newcomers that helped it grow to the people who have continued to support it over the years! I'm hoping we can continue this trend into 2020 and bring the fanart part of the community up to par with the fanfic section!  :Mo

I also appreciate the help Iris has done with a lot of the behind the scenes stuff like coming up with a majority of prompts for 2020 and coming up with the signature awards to help recognize members' contributions, which leads me into my next order of business. For the awards we wanted to use fanart that was submitted this year to give it a more unique and personal look. The question is do we just pick one for everyone or make multiple for people to choose? Iris has already made some of them as examples and I want to know what you guys think about this idea. Do you guys want to pick from a select few or do you want to pick a certain drawing that you submitted? Let me know!  :)littlefoot

And finally, the first prompt for the new year has now officially started!
Jan/Feb: Villains off-duty: Sharptooth just had a lovely meal. What is he going to do in his time off? (Other villains also welcome)

Just in time for the Sharptooth Showcase! What sort of crazy antics can you guys come up with? I'm looking forward to seeing them!

It’s not only the members that comprise this forum, but also the innovation and level of creativity that shines within everyone here is what keeps me coming back here everyday. That’s a pretty awesome idea Mumbling; showcasing their art on the fanart prompt awards shows them not only recognition, but also that their work is highly appreciated and that their dedication was worth it. :)
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Mumbling on January 20, 2020, 04:45:16 AM
Indeed! However it should still be decided how we go ahead with this.

- Will people be able to select one of these, like with the fanfiction award banners?
- Will you get to pick some of your own art that you made for the prompt and feature that on the banner?
- Will everyone get the same banner, like we did for 2018?

I don't feel strongly for any of these options, so it'd be nice to get some feedback from the community. Just gonna tag everyone involved in the 2019 prompts:

I believe I've already talked to everyone via DM that is still working on them so this shouldn't come as a shock. Hope everyone can make it in time to show us what you got!

Mar/Apr: Crossover: Let your mind wander to another show or video game. Which characters will the gang meet there or create a scene of what game you would like to see with LBT characters.

This one is quite unique so it will be interesting to see what people choose to cross over with! I already have a rough idea on what I want to do for this prompt. Anyone else think they will tackle this one?

I had ideas for villains off duty but no time to get started on anything, sadly.

I'm definitely planning to do something for crossover though.

Funny enough, that idea was similar to my initial idea for the Feb showcase. It was going to be Ozzy dragging Strut away from the produce section of a grocery store while he was either holding a basket or pushing a cart full of egg cartons. :p

Great! I will look forward to seeing what you two come up with then!

Okay, I finally finished my entry for this prompt. Who do I send the link to so I can be added to the masterlist/voting?
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on May 01, 2020, 12:26:38 AM
Oh! You just need to specify which drawing is for your prompt on the post itself (so you can't retroactively use older drawings as a submission). I generally check the fanart section frequently so I'll catch it and add it to the list!

If that feels to sketchy then you can always send me a PM or something to let me know :p
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: RainbowFaceProtege on May 01, 2020, 11:10:31 AM
Okay @Flathead770 thanks for clarifying!
If it's alright, though, I now have a new question. :thinking Last night when I submitted my picture, I was in too much of a hurry to make the deadline to notice you'd already extended the deadline for StardustSoldier. Now that I realize the prompts won't be judged until a week into May, would it be okay if I added more to my picture? I hadn't gotten to complete my original plan for it, which involved a background that I ended up not having enough time for. Let me know if continuing to draw until Stardust is finished would be okay!
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on May 01, 2020, 11:28:33 AM
Well we ended up dropping the voting part of it and it's now just for participation. But yeah, if you want to add a background to it that would be fine. May 7 is the current extended deadline and won't go passed that. The fanart prompts have a history of deadline extensions (and I will admit I was late a good amount of times myself) but I'm trying to slowly reel that back to follow the schedule better :p
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: RainbowFaceProtege on May 01, 2020, 12:07:23 PM
Oh, okay. Voting or not, I would've been in for the participation points alone to begin with. :^^spike Thanks for the quick response, I'll have a new and improved pic by May 7! :Mo

Yeah, participation was low and the idea was brought up that choosing what art is the best (even if it was stated to be based on creativity and not technical skill) was a deterrent for people joining in. Could be a coincidence but there has been more activity with the prompts since we dropped it.

Looking forward to your updated drawing then!  :)littlefoot

Hm, that's kind of surprising to me. :olittlefoot I don't know what makes it different than the fanfiction vote myself...guess the fanfic people must not mind it as much somehow.

Whoops, forgot to mention that the new fanart prompt is now up!

May/June: Comic: Create a short comic/graphic novel strip to depict a scene or short story, whether it's your own re-imagining from the movies, a part from a fanfic (make sure to get permission first), or your own custom story! (within the LBT universe of course   ;) )

This one could potentially be a lot of work, but it's something that I've wanted to try out for a while now. Might be a good idea to keep each individual frame more on the simple side to make things easier. I might also recommend starting early and with a rough storyboard to plan things out. I'm looking forward to seeing what people can come up with!  :chompysmile

whoa.  :olittlefoot
THAT is interesting.

questions:
1) how many comic frames and pages should be?
2) Does scene, pictured in comic, should be completed (well, beginning and its logial conclusion before next scene starts), or it can be ended in the middle of action?
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on May 02, 2020, 01:13:42 PM
I would say as many as you want to tell whatever story you're doing, but I think there will need to be at least a few frames, otherwise it would just be a regular drawing. Don't need to go overboard though. If someone wants they could potentially end it on a cliffhanger and do a "To Be Continued" type of thing, which could be neat.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Ducky123 on May 04, 2020, 04:33:42 AM
I think at least a page with at least 4 panels is what I'd consider the minimum to consider it a comic.

At least I know that Mangas usually don't go below 4 panels per page unless it's some specific detail-rich scene or whatever :P
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Mumbling on May 04, 2020, 07:06:39 AM
I don't think that should be a hard requirement. Most comics I read in the newspaper for example tend to have 3 panels, which works well enough.

Excited to see what everyone will come up with!
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on May 04, 2020, 12:45:31 PM
It all depends on what you want to go for. If you want to go for a more newspaper comic strip style then by all means go for it! Something like this would be acceptable in my opinion.

I want to thank everyone who participated in submitting comics for this prompt! I know it was a tougher one but it was neat to see what people came up with! But now that this current prompt is now drawing to a close and everyone that was vocal about submitting a prompt has now done so I figure it's a good time officially start the next prompt! The next one is:

July/Aug: Book cover: Create a book cover for your favorite book, with LBT characters! Alternatively: draw a cover for a LBT fanfic (make sure to ask the author for permission first)!

This one could be interesting. Much like the crossover prompt earlier this year, it can allow for some interesting creativity with showcasing the LBT characters in a new light or by trying to encapsulate a whole fanfiction into a single drawing. I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with!

Harry Potter was actually one of the things I thought about haha. I can totally see three of the main cast with wizard hats on running away from a threeheaded sharptooth standing on a trap door (though I guess that wouldnt make much sense for a cover :P ) ;)

Alright, it's a new month which means a brand new prompt! Considering school has started or will be starting soon for a lot of people this one seems like it will be relatable:

Sept/Oct: Stuck in school: The school year has started again and Mr. Thicknose has created such interesting lessons. Draw the characters in a school situation.

Let's see what sort of school scenarios the gang finds themselves in!

Alright, the Sept/Oct prompt is now finished. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Before I mention what the last prompt will be, I would like to once again open up discussion on possible prompts for 2021. This year we were fortunate that Iris dumped so many ideas to use, but I would like to try and get more broader suggestions. If you have an idea that you think would be interested in seeing different people draw or just have had an idea but were too lazy to motivate yourself into actually trying, then please let me know! I should also finish by saying that due to the number of prompts in the year, there's the possibility that not all ideas will end up being used. Looking forward to seeing some creative options to choose from!  :chompysmile

Alright, now onto the final prompt for the year!
Nov/Dec: Unlikely friendship: Which two characters would likely never get along? In your imagination, they are bffs!

What sort of crazy friendships will we see? Sharptooth and Littlefoot's mother? Mr. Threehorn and literally anyone else? Let's see what you come up with!
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: StardustSoldier on November 03, 2020, 12:33:03 PM
I thought of one idea already.

Unlikely scenario: Come up with something ridiculous and/or random that the characters are doing; something you'd probably never see them doing in the official series.

I'll try and brainstorm to see if I can come up with some more.

Prompt Idea: Draw the gang in an AU of your choice. Will you draw them as Space explorers? As dragons? Vampires? Dinosaurs living in Ancient Egypt? Who knows only you can know. Bonus points if you show how different the Great Valley looks in your AU.
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

^Ooh, that's a good one.

I thought of a couple more:
- Horror scene; draw something Halloween-related or otherwise spooky.
- Unlikely encounter. Draw two or more characters who were never shown interacting in official canon (or did so only minimally). How would these characters interact if they met each other?

I also notice this year and the previous had "Draw an OC." I would love to be able to give that one a shot next year.

The OC prompt might be the only one I would try to participate in (maybe).

Here's a boring but still funny idea for a prompt:

Swap colour patterns between two or more characters of their choice (with appropriate reactions to the sudden change)

We already did a crossover type thing earlier this year so this idea might be a little too similar to do again. Still a good idea though, might be able to do something with it.

Those could potentially work! I like the spooky idea. As for unlikely encounter, looks like I'm doing a Rhett and Shorty drawing   :rhett_brag

I'll have to think on the OC one again. It worked really well the first year it was implemented but not so much the following year. Could always be on the table though.
The colour swap might be an interesting one as well. Could get some funky looking characters  :PLoofah

Just want to also give a reminder that we are now half way through the final prompt of the year! I'm hoping to be able to come up with something now that University is starting to relax a bit as this semester finishes up.

Some good ideas here. I'd contribute, but unlike last year my brain is one big fuzzy mess at the moment, so I don't really have anything substantial.

I do wish to take part in this month's prompt still. Hope to get a chance for that during my Christmas break, when things have hopefully settled in my personal life.

How's your drawing coming along Stardust? Would an extension help out for you as well? I must admit I could probably use one as well since I only started mine after my finals were done.

Happy new year everyone!

The new year brings new prompts to look forward to! As a reminder though that the final prompt of 2020 has been extended to Jan 14. Get those prompts submitted! After the 14th we'll start to handout the 2020 fanart participation awards.

I would also like to thank everyone who came up with ideas for this year's prompts. With going back to school, I never had any time to think about them so it was very much appreciated.

Here's the first prompt of 2021!

Jan/Feb Palette Swap: Swap colour patterns between two or more characters of your choice (with appropriate reactions to the sudden change)

I think for this one it will be best to swap things around between visually distinct characters. Would be confusing with a swap between Rhett and Littlefoot for instance  :rhett_smile
I think including OCs would be fine for this as well if anyone is curious.

I will post the full prompt list for the year in the masterlist (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15345.0) if people want to plan ahead.

I don't think I'll have anything ready for this month's prompt, but I would like to post another LBT drawing sometime. I haven't forgotten. I'm just not sure when the creative juice will hit me again. I've been going through another burnout lately with both writing and drawing, alas.

I haven't seen much intention to participate in this prompt then from the people who already have submitted, but as a formality I'll send out a reminder that this fanart prompt only has one week left!
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

Well March has arrived, which means a new fanart prompt to go along with it! This time we're leaning into the April Fools' feeling for the prompt:

Mar/Apr: LBT Meme: Come up with or convert an existing meme into a LBT one!

I could see this one being very fun to see the results. You can either modify and existing meme format into an LBT one or create an entirely new one based off of any cliche or trope the series/characters have to offer! Would like to give a reminder though that the fanart prompts are for improving your own artistic ability in some way, so I don't think just putting in text on a ripped image would count as a submission.

This will be the first time I have submitted a fan art prompt.

I decided to tweak a famous Jurassic Park meme/ scene.

(https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/fr/cp0/e15/q65/165257590_272265791055251_2320983192048905149_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-3&_nc_sid=110474&efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&_nc_ohc=PpEiFVm8OdsAX9MgLJR&_nc_ht=scontent-sjc3-1.xx&tp=14&oh=547c5f812a901ab423a096dfdbd8d451&oe=6085C9BB)

I ability to cut and paste is limited with the device I have.

What I was going for was to make Ian run from a Yellowbelly,  I chose Doofah.

The joke is that many fans i would like to “run faster” and away from 13th installment of the LBT franchise, but more importantly I think it is hilarious how Doofah’s head feathers altered Rexy’s head.

Beware of the Doofahasaurus Rex! XD

Its vision is based on silliness. :D

Completely forgot to send out a reminder that the current fanart prompt to create a LBT meme is still going and the deadline is the end of the month. I'm hoping to get something quick done now that homework is wrapping up for the semester.

Hopefully we can get more submissions then just Mumbling and myself this time?  :rhett_smile

Forgot that it's a new month and with it a new fanart prompt!

May/June: Unlikely Encounter: Draw two or more characters who were never shown interacting in official canon (or did so only minimally). How would these characters interact if they met each other?
Or
Come up with something ridiculous and/or random that the characters are doing; something you'd probably never see them doing in the official series.

Hopefully more people will be able to join in on this one?

The year is now halfway done, which means the start of a new prompt!

July/Aug: Epic Fail!: Draw a character or characters of your choice as they experience a moment they'd rather forget. Whether tripping over a root in front of everyone or being caught doing something embarrassing, nobody is safe from the occasional fail!

I'm sure there's a lot of ways to get creative with this one!  :rhett_smile

Our current prompt is for July & August.

Epic Fail!: Draw a character or characters of your choice as they experience a moment they'd rather forget. Whether tripping over a root in front of everyone or being caught doing something embarrassing, nobody is safe from the occasional fail!

If you're unable to make that one though, there'll be another for September & October.

Hey! Glad to see a new member interested in joining in on the fanart prompts! Yes you can join in on the current one running as Stardust has pointed out. There are 6 prompts a year that run bi-monthly. Also feel free to check out this (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15345.0) to see any previous prompts, the current one and the ones coming up for the rest of the year!

By all means jump in if you can and good luck! Though remember that this prompt ends at the end of this month.

I unfortunately won't be joining in on this prompt for the first time as I've been far to focused on moving. I did have an idea in mind but I don't have the time, and probably not even the skill, to do what I had in mind.

Well I should mention that the fires weren't a problem at all during my move. Actually barely even saw any smoke as well, which was good.

Anyways, this new month brings in a brand new prompt! Thanks for everyone that participated in the last one! Since we are approaching spoopy season the next prompt is:

Sept/Oct: Horror Scene: Draw something Halloween-related or otherwise spooky.

Pretty basic, but I suppose it leaves things quite open for you to do whatever you want. Hope to see some frightening stuff!  :MoEvil

@The jewelstone queen Hey that sounds great! For submission all you need to do is to comment in the post in which you have the fanart that you're submitting it for the prompt. Something along the line of "this is my submission for the Sept/Oct prompt: XXXXX" works well enough. I usually keep track of every post in the fanart section so I can add it to the master list myself. No need to PM me if you don't want to, though if you want you can just mention that you submitted it and I can track it down from there.

Looking forward to see what you come up with!

The spoopy prompt is done now that we're moving into the penultimate month of the year. Thanks to SRFG and The Jewelstone Queen for your participation! We're now moving into the final prompt of 2021, and it will definitely allow for some creativity.

Nov/Dec: Alternate Universe: Draw the gang in an AU of your choice. Will you draw them as Space explorers? As dragons? Vampires? Dinosaurs living in Ancient Egypt? Who knows only you can know. Bonus points if you show how different the Great Valley looks in your AU. (Note: Bonus points are not actually real, but will add to your drawing regardless  :rhett_smile )

Real bonus points if you include Rhett in your drawing though  :rhett_brag (ok not really  :rhett_sad )

Looking forward to seeing some crazy ones!

Were you still thinking about participating @The jewelstone queen and @RainbowFaceProtege ?

Also since the year is coming to a close, I always like to open the floor up to any suggestions for prompt ideas for 2022. If you've had any crazy ideas you've always wanted to see come to life then now is the chance!

And yes, I still plan on doing something for this prompt. I just hope I don't bite off more than I can chew!

Suggestions, huh? Hmm... draw your least favorite character? (don't know if we did that one already.)

maybe choose a color and make or draw a character.

My brain doesn't have its creative hat on, I'll let ya know if I got any other ideas!

So... prompt ideas... Here's a few I've come up with:

- Favourite couple: Love is in the air! Draw your favourite couple enjoying each other's company! It doesn't have to be canon and can involve OCs.

- Age up/age down: Draw any character as a different age to how they appear in the series. Will the gang be all grown up? Or will their folks be younger (or even older :lol)?

- Water: Draw a watery scene! It could be fun in the pond, a rainy day, or a look at life beneath the surface.

- Fight scene: Draw a scene of two (or more) characters getting into a scuffle. Was it an argument that got physical, is it defence from an enemy, or is someone being a bully?

- How it should have happened: Draw a scene from one of the films/TV series that you think should have played out differently.

- Redemption/Betrayal: Draw a villain who has turned to the side of good. Alternatively, draw a good guy that turns to the dark side.  :evilsmile

- Comfort: A character has fallen ill or is sad about something. What do their friends/family do to make them feel better?

- Be Careful What You Wish For: Your wish to the Stone of Cold Fire has been granted, but has some unexpected consequences. Draw a character's corrupted wish!

- A New Friend/Foe: Draw a dinosaur that hasn't yet appeared in the series that you would like to see.

- Maybe the return of the Draw an OC prompt?

- Draw Rhett.  :rhett_brag

...I know we only need 6, but maybe we can take a vote on these and other people's ideas?  :p

@The jewelstone queen
Least favourite character was done a couple years back I believe, so it would probably get less of a priority over newer ideas. The colour restriction could be interesting. Don't worry if you can't come up with any ideas atm, part of the reason I open this up to everyone is that I also can't come up with ideas  :bestsharptooth

I have a lot of other projects going on right now for the holidays, so I’m not sure I’ll get to draw any LBT this month, but I’ll let you know if that changes.

@somerandomfangirl
Oh these sounds like pretty good ideas! Be careful what you wish for sounds particularly fun  :PteranoPlotting

I've never actually done an official voting on all the ideas, but it could maybe be something that we could try this year? If not, people can express what ideas they like in this discussion topic.

Jan/Feb: Favourite couple: Love is in the air! Draw your favourite couple enjoying each other's company! It doesn't have to be canon and can involve OCs.

Mar/Apr: How it should have happened: Draw a scene from one of the films/TV series that you think should have played out differently.

May/June: Age up/age down: Draw any character as a different age to how they appear in the series. Will the gang be all grown up? Or will their folks be younger (or even older :lol )?

July/Aug: Fight scene: Draw a scene of two (or more) characters getting into a scuffle. Was it an argument that got physical, is it defence from an enemy, or is someone being a bully?

Nov/Dec: Be Careful What You Wish For: Your wish to the Stone of Cold Fire has been granted, but has some unexpected consequences. Draw a character's corrupted wish!

So that brings us to the next fanart prompt:

Mar/Apr: How it should have happened: Draw a scene from one of the films/TV series that you think should have played out differently.

Marvel is getting away with milking out the MCU with what ifs, so why can't we!? Maybe a scene in which LF's mother survives and Sharptooth dies? Or perhaps Pterano really does gain magic powers from touching the stone of Cold Fire? Even better yet, the brave longneck scheme shows off how brave Rhett really is and he scares Chomper away with his mighty tail, causing the plan to backfire and Ali to appreciate Rhett all the more  :rhett_grin Let's see some really creative ones!

I was going to do something with Guido but I like that Rhett one a lot more! I'll have to think on it though.

Yeah, it's kinda been me and SRFG doing a couple of these, kinda interested in seeing some entrys from Cyadical, he's got some great art.

Fancied doing a comic for this one, but there's no way I'll get that done in time.  :taunttroll Might be able to sketch something this weekend or next for this, but we'll see...

Would love to know what your idea was, Flathead.  :p

Hm... well, I'm going to be honest that I completely forgot about last month's prompt. I had an idea, wasn't too excited aobut it, planned on doing it but I forgot to, hehe.

I can't remeber April's prompt, but I can assure you that I have plans for all of them! I might draw March's prompt on my own time, we'll see.

^It's the same prompt for both March and April, so don't worry, you still have plenty of time.  :bronGoodJob

Honestly, I don't know if I'll have time to do this one. Was too stressed last month and I've got a hell of a lot planned this month. I'll try to get at least a sketch done though.

And don't worry SRFG, take care of life first. Hope you're doing ok!

Oh yeah I forgot to do a half way reminder at the start of April, whoops  :PLoofah

I've been once again way too into the thick of things with school to even consider having free time so probably nothing on my end once again.

Show us how it's done Jewel!  :bestsharptooth

But once again, nice work SRFG!

Thanks peep! I'm always eager to see your entries.

And Manofwar, I think it would be awsome if you joined in on this! Though the May and april promt is almost over, you have like... a few days left. But if you don't mind the rush, go ahead, just make sure you notify Flathead so he knows what's going on.

Thanks for the entry SRFG! Also no worries Jewel, it's completely understandable.

@ManOfWar GT
Thanks for showing interest in joining the fanart prompts! We accept all skill levels in the prompts and is more a collaborative showcase over a competition and are meant to help facilitate creativity and productivity of artists through set deadlines and forced topics to narrow ideas down into certain topics. More importantly, it's to help improve and develop your drawing skills while having fun! Each prompt is bi-monthly, with a total of 6 prompts per year. As for official rules, the only real previously established rules for the competition as far as I know are as follows:

        1. Artwork has to be submitted in the GoF fanart section (feel free to also post in on DA or other art sites and share it there if you want)
        2. The artwork has to be specifically stated as an entry for the prompt in the post description, so you cannot use old artwork as submission. Previously you needed to send a PM out to the person running the prompts, but I find stating in the post itself works well enough as I'm generally around enough.
        3. Any art medium is accepted. So traditional, digital drawings, paintings, sculpting and whatnot is acceptable.
        4. Not really a rule anymore as voting is not a thing now, but it would be nice if you can mention if you plan on participating on any of the prompts so I know who still is working on their artwork. Not as applicable now as we're trying to be a bit more strict with deadlines due to past issues with that, but a possible 1 week extension could be implemented.

As for new guidelines, I would also personally include:
       5. The fanart has to be completely your work. That means not just copying and pasting backgrounds or characters or anything. All that typical plagarism type stuff. Though using screenshots as references to help with poses and such are fine.
       6. As it is LBT fanart, it generally is within the LBT Universe, though things like OCs are generally permitted. AUs have also been done in the past and are sometimes part of the prompt topics as well. I suppose this is a bit more discretionary and subjective to the artist and is hard to enforce as creativity is the name of the game, but it should at least be recognizably LBT I guess?

Participation in the prompts can earn you a treestar on the annual fanart awards, which can be shown below in my signature. We also pick out some of the fanarts that were submitted that year to use for the banner (if you are against us using your artwork, feel free to let us know). Finally, previous and current fanart prompts can be found here (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15345.msg533829#msg533829). I will also mention the new fanart prompts in this topic when they start up.

Let me know if you have any questions.

For anyone who's curious about the 2021 fanart banners, yeah that is something that still needs to be done at some point. PM's will be sent out at some point regarding them. Sorry for the wait.  :PLoofah

Ok, deffinetly gonna do this one. "Age up/age down"

Nothing too chaotic, just a group pic of the gang in their teen years. But for this I'm goning to design them in the way my current fanfic described them. Like how Littlefoot will have a scar over his back and Cera growing her two other horns. ^w^

Always love drawing characters in a different age. This one is proably most enjoyable since during the whole franchise the gang never grows up (which I hate.) Alright enough from me!

Sounds good Jewel! Also thanks for the reminder. I've been busy these last few days with late nights dealing with school club activities.  :PLoofah

As Jewel has mentioned, the next prompt is upon us for May and June: Age up/age down: Draw any character as a different age to how they appear in the series. Will the gang be all grown up? Or will their folks be younger (or even older :lol )?

How old can the Old One get? Maybe we'll find out in two months  :bestsharptooth

Hopefully I'll be able to join in on this one now that school is done and my summer break/work has (almost) arrived.

Hello everyone! As the year passes the halfway mark, a new prompt arrives. This one is for July/August and the topic is: Fight scene: Draw a scene of two (or more) characters getting into a scuffle. Was it an argument that got physical, is it defence from an enemy, or is someone being a bully?

What sort of fight will we end up seeing? Cera and Littlefoot? Cera and Shorty? Cera and Rhett? Actually...I don't think Rhett could ever be in a fight as it wouldn't end up being much of a fight  :rhett_grin :rhett_brag :rhett_smile

Thanks a lot SRFG for your submission for the prompt!

I'm a little delayed in announcing the next prompt as I was busy moving into a new place. So let's see what the next prompt is shall we?

Sept/Oct: Redemption/Betrayal: Draw a villain who has turned to the side of good. Alternatively, draw a good guy that turns to the dark side. :evilsmile

Oh, maybe there's a chance for a legit Rhett drawing this time around?  :rhett_smile
Hope to see some interesting choices for this one!

Lol, I'm so tempted to draw a sequel to the October prompt from last year but I'm not sure if that would be too much of a betrayal.  :rhett_ohsnap

Or maybe just draw something fun with Rhett. We'll see.  :rhett_smile

Ok, for realizies, I'm deffinetly doing these from now on! Last time, I had something planned but I had to start over because a littlefoot running away from a sharptooth is not a fight scene!

For this one, I have an idea in mind, but I feel it's not that exciting. I was gonna draw Littlefoot being evil, but I kinda want to take advantage of dis one. Hee heem :rhett_grin

Anyways, we're just a little under half way for the current prompt of betrayal/redemption. I know SRFG and Jewel, you both were interested in trying to participate in this one right? Thanks again for carrying the fanart team  :PLoofah :rhett_smile

All good SRFG. Hopefully we'll see something from you this next prompt!

And speaking of the next prompt, I suppose it's about time I get off my butt and officially announce it right?  :bestsharptooth

Nov/Dec: Be Careful What You Wish For: Your wish to the Stone of Cold Fire has been granted, but has some unexpected consequences. Draw a character's corrupted wish!

This is a good one! Who knew the Stone of Cold Fire had Monkey Paw qualities to it?  :PteranoPlotting Hopefully this will be as creative as the writers for LBT deciding on canonizing aliens into a dinosaur franchise  :smucky

Also a good time to give a massive shout-out to SRFG for coming up with all of these very cool prompt ideas for this year! I'm sure everyone knows how lazy I am when coming up with new prompt ideas every year. In fact, I think I've only ever come up with like 2 of them  :PLoofah This might also be a good time to open up the floor for possible ideas for next years prompt list! Feel free to post any ideas  you might have! (Doesn't have to be only relegated to fanartists as well, though they would be given higher preference in the final decision)

Hey thanks a lot Jewel! I'll take a look at it right away. Sorry for my delay, was enjoying spending time with my family over the holidays.

Speaking about proceeding into the new year, I think we may need to unfortunately stop with the bimonthly fanart prompts. A lot of the previous fanartists have caught up being busy with life, myself included. I've thought about whether I'd participate in prompts in the future and I can't really see myself finding the time to do so within the next couple years and activity in both the fanart section and the GoF in general have been on the low end currently.

Part of my drive to be so active with fanart in the past was to have a second chance at being engaged within the community when I rejoined back in 2017, and I am happy with both the progress I made as an artist during that time as well as the possible influence I had in keeping the fanart section alive and active. I'm not the same person as I once was back then where I felt like I could not reach out and make friends with people both on the forum and in real life. Now after making several friends on the GoF and finding seemingly finding a place within my educational journey, I feel a lot less of a desire to put in the effort, especially with the increased demands of my engineering degree. While I won't say that I'll put down drawing and LBT fanart for good (someone still needs to show the world how great Rhett is  :rhett_grin), but I wouldn't expect anything at the levels that I did in the past.

I would like to end things off with thanking everyone that supported me during the 4 to 5 years that I participated in the fanart side of things, as you guys really did make it a joy to participate in!
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion

As unfortunate as it sounds, I agree with you flathead. We've all been busy and sometimes things just don't come through. I will tell the truth and say sometimes I didn't always have fun making these entries, as I was stressing to get something done before the deadline.

As you've said, I'll still continue lbt fanart as well, and they might be in higher quality depenging on my amount of interest and time. Thank you Flatead for being our amazing art prompt leader! And also the lovely SRFG! (Like sireously, how do you draw so good?)
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on January 14, 2023, 01:48:21 AM
Yeah I can see how they could maybe feel like a chore. It was never recommended to participate in them for the sake of participating, and moreso a way to help your creativity and expanding your drawing skills by drawing something you might not have thought of drawing before.

Thanks to you as well for all of your entries for both you Jewel and SRFG! Both of you kept it alive in this last final year.

Maybe one day it can make a return and LBT fanart can retake it's rightful spot as best place on the GoF!  :PLoofah
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: somerandomfangirl on January 14, 2023, 11:00:37 AM
As sad as it is, I agree with this as well. The activity is no longer there and unfortunately I neither have the time nor the enthusiasm to take part anymore. I had a lot of fun and the fanart prompts helped not only develop my art but other creative ideas too (helped a lot with that fanfic that’ll likely never see the light of day whoops). My free time now is mostly occupied by writing for another fandom I’m interested in and on top of that I’ve just started a new job which will also take up more time. It was fun while it lasted and it was a privilege to take part. I may continue LBT fanart in the future, but we’ll see. The prompts may have been seen as a chore but for me they were a good way to push me into form of creativity I had been straying from for a while.

IIRC, I think I started this way back but only when you took over this really became a popular thing for a while. I'm glad we had so many entries over the years (a lot less from me than I'd like to admit) but sometimes life if more about the journey than about the results. It's been a great time and we can pick this up any time again if there's enough interest, I guess?  :bronGoodJob

I wonder if the fanfic challenge is going to meet the same fate? Looking at participation last year  :bolt

@Mumbling Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. I liked snooping around to see what other people had come up with every so often. It was fun to see people’s creations.

Feels like there’s a bit of a gap in the LBT generation right now. I wonder if the next wave might actually be the people who’ve been growing up with the series on YouTube Kids…
Title: Re: Fanart Prompt Challenge Discussion
Post by: Flathead770 on January 24, 2024, 10:26:27 AM
Hey Rainbow  :rainbowwave

Yeah i stopped it for a couple reasons. The first is that there was almost no participation throughout all of 2022, with only a few artists such as Jewels and SRFG keeping it going.

This was also at a time when I was pulling 12 hours a day, 6 days a week away from my house either at school or doing extracurricular stuff, so I didn't feel like it was currently worth the effort with maybe only 1 submission per prompt.

If there's enough interest in it again, it's something that I can possibly bring back. It also doesn't have to be me to do it again if someone else feels like taking on the job.

Feels like there’s a bit of a gap in the LBT generation right now. I wonder if the next wave might actually be the people who’ve been growing up with the series on YouTube Kids…
That's an interesting point, and very well could be possible. It's either that or parents that watched it and now showing their kids. One of my coworkers at a job I worked at last year mentioned that he watched the first 2 LBT movies with his son, though this was for the first time for him as well. He made note of the drop in quality between the two and the amusing fact that there's 14 of them.  :PLoofah

Hi, Flathead! :rainbowwave

Well, I suppose that all makes sense. I can definitely understand life getting in the way of these kinds of things. I mean, it’s the same reason I seldom post here anymore. :oops

On a similar note, my brother was playing a trivia game not so long ago that asked what children’s movie series has “14 unnecessary sequels”. Come on, people, if you’re going to criticize LBT at least get the number right… :p

Yeah posting art here has kinda lost its novilty,  I used to post artwork here every other day.  But in the last few years when ever I post art I only get one or 2 comments or non at all. In fact you probably already mentioned this but this site in general isn't as active as it was 10 years ago.
