Title: An idea I have for another planet
Post by: Chomper98 on August 15, 2012, 04:57:34 PM
This is about a planet I made up, and it includes dinosaurs and aliens, Xenomorphs, Predators, so on and so fourth. Any alien life form or prehistoric animal is generally included. It is alot like earth, with forests, deserts, grassland, savannah, mountains, oceans, and so on.

Aside from the normally familiar plants, there is alien flora like red mountain spike, a plant that grows high in mountains, and in the highest of forests, there are plants that act like plates, absorbing rainfall into their stems. But aside from the terrain, the planet is extremely dangerous, with so many types of dangerous creatures, plants, and other hazards.

There are two known sessile predators(life-forms that blend animal and plant traits), the Butchertree, and the forest Ghost Trap. For the Butchertree's victims, it is usually quick, but extremely painful, with one of four long, sharp legs impaling a hapless animal. The death of a Ghost Trap victim is far more painful, after getting caught, a prey animal is pulled into the mouth by tentacles, and dissolved in a stomach alive. These animals appear in Alien Plant/ Expedition and Aurelia and Blue Moon respectively.

The most feared land predators are also some of the largest. The first is the enourmous Tyrannosaurus Rex, and I don't need to give a description do I? Thanators are half the size of T-rex, but are just as dangerous, they have 10 pads on the back of their head that stick up when they are about to attack, and half sharp claws on their feet. The last is the Arrowtongue, slightly larger then a Thanator but smaller then a T-rex. These liquivores have tongues that are as sharp as razor blades, and as quick as chameleons, which can slash open even the thickest hide, they are also the fastest of the three giant predators, and easily a match for any.

Other smaller carnivores include Raptors, which inhabit the entire planet, and Bio-Raptors, creatures that appear in Pitch Black, but are less sensitive to light then their cousins in the movie. Viperwolves are nocturnal, hyena like predators that are very succesful, though they prefer forests over open woodland.

The sky is no safer, pterosaurs are actually the least dangerous, and are often prey to other, far more dangerous predators. The Stalker is a colony animal that appeared in Aurelia and Blue moon, that lives in the planets forests, attacking other air creatures. The Skewer is perhaps the planet's most potent predator, for when it attacks, a kill is nearly guaranteed, and no victim survives its long, deadly lance. The largest predator on the planet as a whole is the enourmous Leonopteryx(A predator that appears in James Cameron's avatar as the giant, orange flying creature) which prowls through the air, and will violently attack any animal when it is hungry, even the Alpha predators are fearful of this predator.

Surprisingly, there are several sapient or semi-sapient species, including Humans, Na'vi, Eosapiens, Xenomorphs, Predators, Martians(Steven Spielberg's War of the World's species). Most of the time, peace is the norm, although their are often conflicts between them.

The Human race are some of the most advanced, but are also the most vulnerable, they survived only by their intelligence. Na'vi are far more peaceful, and often mediate conflicts betweem the other sapient species. Eosapiens are the largest, though they are respectful and gentle with other sapients, they are deadly hunters that can create cages when throwing their clubs at prey.

Xenomorphs are by far the most dangerous, and live in small villages in the forests or plains. Because they evolved alongside other sapients on this planet, they will rarely attack other species, although their prowess in fighting makes them a favorite ally of other races.

Predators will, like Xenomorphs, generally leave other sapients alone, although they have been known to sometimes hunt other sapients when they're at war with them. Some have even been sighted hunting alongside Humans.

Martians are the most advanced technologically, and have built vast cities in the desert regions, and have constructed Giant Tripods which they use in wars against their enemies.

The sapient species all live in independent nations and tribes across the planet, and are known to trade with eachother. A major conflict was largely avoided due to the Na'vi's mediation, specifically the conflict occured when predators accidentally destroyed a human village, and the Martians backed the Humans, while the Xenomorphs backed the Predators, war would have been disastrous.

A/N: I had this idea for a long time, and decided to write about it, and incorporated my favorite aliens, dinosaurs, and other life into this planet. This isn't meant to be copyright, and all alien species belong to their respective creators, this is just for fun, if you want me to add anymore species request it below.

Could you add an alien that isn't primitive, or intelleigent as we understand the concept, or an animal, plant, fungus, energy being etc.? In short, create the most unusual alien you can think of. And maybe we can compare "things".  ;)

Is this strange enough for you? Here is a fact-file.

Life: Life

Domain: Kalidocasimasatai

Kingdom: Kalidocasmasa

Phylum: Kalidocasma

Order: Kalidocasmi

Family: Kalidocasia

Genus: Kalidoca

Species: Kalidoca Alienasis

It is not in appearance this being is strange, but in behaviour. This...creature does not reproduce, but eats, and spontaneously appears on dying or dead planets. It feeds on radiation and can survive atmospheric pressure that would crush a human. It's skin is acidic, yet never dissolves, it has no mouth, yet eats, and it doesn't reproduce, yet is still there millions of years later. It has no brain, yet moves, it has no heart, yet is alive, it has no lungs, yet breathes, it has no eyes, yet sees.

How strange is that for ya?  :lol

Ha ha!  :lol  It's pretty good actually.

I was thinking about a little rectangular piece, with milimeter dimensions 50 x 50 x 0,05. This piece uses rigid carbon structures instead of proteins, similar to porfirins and fullerenes doped with functional chemical groups, like organometallic groups. These structures don't offer the flexibility of proteins, but they make up for it by surviving in vacuum and not needing a solvent in order to react. Most of the body isn't actually made from these carbon structures, but from various metallic complexes and silicon compounds, which the carbon structures organise. The organism gets its energy from solar power, by forming a thin solar cell on its surface. It resides in open space or on asteroids.

Those on asteroids transform to a slightly more liquid form of chemistry, leeching materials from the asteroids surface by using strong acids in molecular cupola-like structures that separate the surface-eating chemicals from the rest of the organism. These materials are then used to build new organisms. The organisms are able to slide over each other using exchanging electromagnetic fields, like a maglev train. That way old organisms can move so that the newly created organisms underneath them can get access to starlight. The organisms can also transmit electricity among themselves, so even organisms with no access to light can survive.

Once an asteroid becomes overcrowded (when the energy available to an individual organism becomes low), the organism can propel itself into space by creating a single, short-duration powerful magnetic field, repelling itself from the organism below that creates a field of identical strength but opposite orientation.

Once in space, the organism can change orbits by transforming most of its surface in a mirror, and then by tilting itself or shrinking or expanding, acting like a solar sail.

It can spend billions of years in this state. Organisms prefer to approach the star as much as possible. They communicate using simple radio-signals, to optimally crowd the system. Over millions of years, so many of these organisms can be produced from asteroids that they may use the entire output of a star, completely surrounding it and blocking its light. By this point they number in the sextillions, exceding the number of bacteria on Earth.

Once the star system becomes overcrowded (again, when energy available to a single organism becomes low enough), a group of neighboring organisms who send the strongest radio-signals will form a solar sail, will shed almost all of its matter, leaving only a thin carbon-nanotube mesh coated with beryllium or aluminium atoms, with only the organisms in the middle of the sail remaining complete.

At a certain moment, due to other organisms adjusting their orbits (the sail sends a "make room" radio signal, and if there are multiple sails, the sail with the strongest signal will be exposed to light) the sail will be exposed to starlight, and will be propelled at incredible speeds, in the range of 1,000-10,000 kilometers per second. In a few centuries the sail will reach another star system and start crowding it too.

These organisms, although having no individual intelligence, can easily overpower most civilisations with their sheer numbers, leaving them in complete darkness.

They are a form of "cosmic pest" that advanced civilisations routinely eradicate.
