This month we would like to welcome two dinosaurs of mystery! Greetings, rainbowfaces!  Where have you two been?

“That would be telling, wouldn’t it?”

----------------

In this topic please feel free to discuss the rainbowfaces as characters, to share your own creations (fanfics or fanart) concerning them, or to mention some of your favorite fanworks of others involving them.  For a full set of rules please see the 2021 Monthly Character Showcase topic but keep in mind that this is meant to be fun as opposed to any sort of contest.

I will go ahead and get the discussion started with the following questions:

1. What do you think about their disappearance at the end of LBT VII? Do you like them being depicted as overtly out-of-worldly, or do you think that aspect should have been left up to the watcher’s imagination?

2. What is your personal head-canon about what the rainbowfaces are?

Go ahead and check out my fanfictions, The Seven Hunters, Songs of the Hunters, and Menders Tale.

Yeah that's most likely true. I mean what else could they be.
I love the Yellow Bellies.

I really like the other-worldly aspect of them, it adds to the mysterious, far-away feeling of the series. Makes you wonder what is beyond the mysterious beyond anyway. Maybe these aliens are from our future, too  :rainbowThinking
I can be your long-lost pal

Well, I'll concede that the rainbowfaces are definitely interesting, and they're decently entertaining characters even ignoring the elephant in the room. Between the two I prefer the lighter-colored one a bit, she has some good lines.

1.) I consider the reveal at the end to be a point against the movie as a whole - which I must stress that I generally enjoy - and one of the most absurd things to have ever happened in the series. I would have strongly preferred if they executed their departure differently - them just disappearing without any big hurrah would have been a good alternative to the movie's tractor beam(?) exit, and I think that Littlefoot turning back after the distraction to see them sprinting off into the distance and screaming 'Beyond the Mysterious Beyond' as a send-off would have been funny (if not incongruous with the general tone of the characters, I'll gladly admit).

2.) There are two answers I can give here that all coexist inside my head. I'll get the more complicated one out of the way first: this idea is in the context of an old take on the Land Before Time world of mine that I scrapped a few years back that isn't congruent with canon in any way, and had its own modified version of VII that didn't resemble its canon incarnation in every respect; without going into specifics regarding plot, the gist of the idea that the rainbowfaces developed on the same planet and in the same manner as all of the other dinosaurs depicted in the series, but possess human-level intelligence, are even more-well versed than humans in the workings of the cosmos, and have their own cities and technology that reside far beyond the wildernesses depicted in the movies.

In the context of the movies, I just consider them (at least the two depicted in VII) aliens, though I like to think of them as inexplicable alien dinosaurs as opposed to aliens disguised as dinosaurs.

Having read your fanfic, Rhombus. Tilted 'the seven hunters' (which by the way is esculent work and I am reading it a second time as we speak. As a matter of fact, it inspired me to continue writing my story that I had given up on)

Where was I...? Ah, yes, they do seem like a charming pair. Although, seeing them disappear in a pillar of light  didn't seem very natural to me. It just didn't seem to fit in the lbt universe. But giving it some thought and consideration I've changed my perspective about that.

They seem rather mysterious, and I'd like to believe that they did come from the stars. I would like to know more about them however... :thinking

What I like about the Rainbowfaces is they added a mystical element to the lbt universe. You now realize out there in Beyond The Mysterious Beyond are dino angels/ aliens watching over the Gang.

I had hoped they would return in a sequel (film) that explores more mysterium in the LBT world. I however, doubt they will.

Interesting! Love your headcanon with the advanced rainbowface civilization. Like the dinosauroid concept, but with the advanced dinosaurs living alongside their more primitive counterpart rather than millions of years after the KP extinction event. They'd probably view Littlefoot and the other dinosaurs in the valley much like we view uncontacted tribes today, and probably have pretty strict rules against making contact. Which, indeed, the rainbowfaces repeatedly seem to imply they do. Worth noting though is that Littlefoot and his friends are clearly sapient already, complicating things.

I however quite like the idea of them being a pair of alien shapeshifters. It's weird and corny, but fine for the 7th movie in the franchise. And I quite like the ending too. We're of course not shown the tractor beam, and if you're a kid, the pop culture reference might not be immediately obvious, and it sort of adds to the mystery of the rainbowfaces, who they are and their true motivations.

If we ever get any more LBT films, I'd love to see them make a return someday!

Oh, man--I thought I already posted here earlier, but I guess I didn't! (Thanks for the ping @Gentle Sharptooth !) :rainbowwave

So yeah, everybody can probably guess my opinion of these characters based on my username and profile pic alone, but here goes!

1. The Rainbow Faces' disappearance into the sky totally wowed me when I was little, especially because it was so uncharacteristic of the franchise to go as far as saying, "Yeah, they're from outer space!" But they did it anyway, and it put a smile on the face of some little girl who loved the idea of mysterious alien visitors. :) (I may have been a slightly weird kid.) Looking back, that tractor beam ending is one of the most memorable scenes I can think of from any cartoon I grew up with.

2. For a long time, I thought of the Rainbow Faces as being alien shapeshifters or possibly disguising themselves with technology. (As a kid, I remember thinking their true forms would probably look kind of like Crystal and Amber from that Scooby-Doo alien movie, haha!) But the funny thing is that after I got older and rediscovered LBT, I ended up changing my headcanon. Like @Nanotyrannus , I kind of like to think of them as alien dinosaurs. Doesn't make much sense, but I think it would just be more fun if those were their true forms after all, and there was a whole planet of technologically advanced dinosaurs out there in the LBT universe. And as much as I still love the alien twist, I think it would fit with the tone of LBT a lot better if these aliens actually looked like dinosaurs.

Alternatively, maybe the Rainbow Faces could be dinosaurs from an alternate version of Earth in a parallel universe, and they're traveling across dimensions to explore the alternate versions of their world. This actually wouldn't be a bad explanation for the "they really are dinosaurs" headcanon. Admittedly, though, there are a lot of signs pointing to them being from another planet. If they are dimension-hoppers or (as some have suggested) time travelers, it doesn't make much sense that they spend so much time talking about outer space.

Putting questions about the Rainbow Faces' true identities aside, I just love these two as characters. Their personalities are great foils to each other. :DD

Piggy backing off @RainbowFaceProtege incredible headcanon. I see the Rainbow Faces as seeders, that dinosaurs come from another world and were placed on Earth because it has the best conditions for life. The Gang and other dinos were created by the Rainbowfaces who take dinosaur form when interacting with their children.

I possibly would add dinosaurs are made in the Rainbowfaces image, but I am more inclined to see them as seeding worlds with dino DNA, eggs, and etc.

Perhaps the Asteroid that wipes out the dinos is a weapon created by Rogue Rainbowfaces to annihilate what is deemed a failed experiment, imperfect organisms (dinos), and that these Rogue Rainbowfaces have their hopes pinned to another species: humans.

So the whole dinosaur world is one big genetic experiment. Interesting headcanon. :thinking

Well to an extent, more akin to biosphere plan. I am not saying the Rainbowfaces are impersonal lab scientists, more like its an attempt to create a race of beings in the right conditions.
