Title: Fry
Post by: Lillefot on October 16, 2008, 10:08:56 AM
Someone has been taking lessons and entered a new level of drawing!
I've been studying and studying photoshop and here's the fruit of that work.
I feel waaaay better in my artwork now. Best of all, the messy skecthlines are all gone! :D Practised shadows and highlights etc aswell.
Here's what I consider my best peice of artwork ever.

He's a Tinysaurus and I call him Fry.

Isn't he adorable?

Thank you everyone!
I'm with no doubt very proad of Fry, and that Photoshop is, as you said GVG, my best digital friend!  :)

A little background:

Fry is an OC that I tend to bring into either a fanfiction I'm working with or an RP.
I'm not going to expose his personality yet.
His names was made up of the saying "small Fry" hence he's a Tinysaurus, a "small Fry creature". Therefor, Fry is his name. :^.^:
His color and structure is inspired by several of the Tinysauruses that we already know, hard acctually, especially to get his legs the way I wanted them. This color is Fry in daylight. Maybe a little lighter. Compare with my AV of Skitter in a dark area We know that Skitter for one is green/teal in daylight. I'm very pleased with Fry's colors and how they came out!

Here's a closeup: :^.^:

Absolutely lovely Gustav! :yes
I'm sorry my current computer problems kept me from responding earlier, but this is really an awesome job.
Looking at the light and shadow effects in your picture I think it might be a very interesting challenge to make a photoshop picture of the gang (or at least a member) in a thunderstorm with the special light and shadow patterns that would provide.
You also made the character really cute looking and I must say that here I do no longer see the reason for the suggestion I made to you at an earlier state of the drawing; my mistake there.
With your art advancing to this high level, did you consider creating background landscapes etc. as well? With your sense for the beauty of nature (revealed among other in the marvelous photographs which you showed me) I'm sure that you would do as awesome with backgrounds as you do with characters :)

Thanks Malte.
A thunderstorm would be cool indeed... But a mess to draw!  :wow

Yeah, I think they came out good in the end. Don't worry about it.  :)

I REALLY want to learn how to draw landscapes that I could use with my characters. I have the ideas, but I don't know how transfer them from brain to hand, from my hand to my pencil and from my pencil to paper!
Maybe I can find a tutorial or alike, but as you said; I have several photos that provide with inspiration. I just wonder how to draw them.

Any other artists here have any ideas?

You might try to put one of those pictures in front of you and try to copy them thesame way you could copy a character. It doesnt need so much detail in the beginning, you can advance from there on I'm sure.

What Mumbling said.

You might also consider starting by virtual landscapes, that have clear limits and are not as complex as real pictures. For example, I already tried drawing a landscape from agame, a not too complex one, and I was able. Guess what happened when I tried to draw out a mountain from a real picture...

I've seen some artists use real landscape pictures and put their characters onto them.  I also wonder if there may be public domain pictures you could use, or screenshots of the Great Valley, or other spots, that have no characters in them, maybe you could use those too.

I've done that with Powerpoint and Paint... its how I work the computer fanart. But to draw it with a pencil... man, that's tough.
