General Land Before Time / Will LBT continue after JOTB?
« on: January 12, 2016, 08:07:28 PM »
It's a simple answer.  Universal doesn't care about LBT.  What they care about is making a profit.  They wouldn't have dug LBT out from the grave just to give it a good ending.  They did it because they thought they could make money off it.  If it makes a good enough profit (ROI), they'll try another one.  If it doesn't, it dies here and we probably won't ever see another LBT movie.  That's why it's VERY important that everyone here BUY a copy.  If you don't, they might not make another LBT movie, and that would be a sad day for sure.

General Land Before Time / Does 4 or 5 have more nostalgia?
« on: January 09, 2016, 08:45:38 PM »
The one I remember most (other than the original) from when I was a kid was LBT 5.  It's not that the story was necessarily "better," but it had more action/adventure than LBT 4.  Which is really strange because when you think about it, there's tons of action/adventure in LBT 4.  But LBT 5 just really stood out to me more.  Whenever I thought back to my old LBT movies that I used to have, I would always remember LBT 5.  I thought LBT 4 was rather drawn out and didn't have enough surprising things happen.  The cave scene seemed to go on FOREVER and it just wasn't interesting after a while.  I definitely think LBT 4 could have been better.  It's still one of my favorite sequels, but it had a different "feeling" than the rest of the movies to me.  It's weird.  I can't really describe it.

These days I'm doing okay with my RAM because I recently lost my session on firefox somehow so a lot of unneeded tabs aren't open anymore :p
Yeah, I switched from using Firefox as my main browser a while back.  I now mostly use Chrome (but I use Firefox too).  However recently Chrome hasn't been rendering some pages very well on any of my computers, so I find myself using Firefox more and more.  I just wish it was less memory intensive.

LOL.  We're going to look back on this in 7 years and laugh our butts off.  64GB of RAM?  Really?  That's standard on a $300 computer now!  512GB is where it's at!  All I can think about is this is exactly what it was like in the 1990's when I thought 32MB of RAM was all I'd ever need.  Now we're at GigaBytes instead of MegaBytes.  And eventually we'll be at TeraBytes instead of GigaBytes.  Even now there are servers that have several TeraBytes of RAM just like back in the 1990's there were servers with GigaBytes of RAM.

It won't be that long until server grade stuff is in our desktop towers at home.  And even then we'll be wanting for more.  With 3D, holographic technology and VR, the need for raw processing power and RAM will only increase.  I wonder what it will be like in 50 years.  I remember being impressed with your Core2Duo 3.0Ghz computer with 8GB of RAM back in the day.  That really was something.  But now our computers are 10x more powerful and it's still not enough!

I'm impressed how you can fill that much RAM with web browsers though. How do you keep track of all those tabs? I'd personally find it more efficient to close tabs after awhile, if for no other reason than to help ME keep track of why I have each tab open.  :lol

Don't get me wrong, I've hit 3-4 GB before without too much trouble, but I do get to a point where I just find it easier to close tabs versus keeping them open.
I do a lot of web development work and I never close anything.  I also have the browsers set to restore the windows and tabs from the last session when I shut down the computer (which I do infrequently).

What eats up the most RAM is probably Youtube video tabs.  I'm always in the middle of watching something.  Whether it be a PHP tutorial or a snythasia video, I've always got at least a few dozen videos open in tabs.

I do this because bookmarking all these websites is out of the question.  I'd have thousands of bookmarks.  Maybe even tens of thousands.  But when they're actually open in a tab, all I have to do is close them when I no longer need them.  That saves me a LOT of time and effort compared to having to sort through thousands of bookmarks to find the stuff I no longer need.

But it's not fun when I restart my computer and open the browsers again.  I've got a dozen Youtube videos playing at once and I've got to find them and pause them.  And it takes a good 10+ minutes for all my tabs and windows to be restored and for the internet to load them all up again.  But seeing as I only restart my computer around once every few months, it's an annoyance I can live with.

EDIT:  Oh, and of course Firefox always seeps a bit more RAM for each tab constantly.  If you keep Firefox open, you'll find it eat up more and more RAM over time, even if you don't open anything new.  It's not significant, but it can cause problems over time.  That's the only reason I restart the computer every month or two.

You can NEVER have too much RAM or CPU power.  That's been true since computers first came out.  Most of my machines still have 32GB in them.  They can all be upgraded to 64GB, but I have been fine with 32GB so far (though like you, I am pushing the ceiling quite often).  I'm waiting until I can afford to build a 128GB DDR4 rig before I upgrade these things.

Personally I do photo and video editing, gaming, web browsing, etc.  But what eats all the RAM for me is honestly Chrome and Firefox.  I keep hundreds of tabs and windows open at all times.  I'm on my invoicing computer right now (this is the computer I never push very far because it's just for writing up invoices, browsing the net, and buying parts online), and Waterfox (64 bit version of Firefox) is using 12GB and Chrome is probably at least another 10GB.  Then I've got a second administrative account that's running a data backup program, and my invoicing software is open as well as a hard drive diagnostic program.  All together I'm using about 25GB out of my 32GB.....and I don't even push this machine.

As for the processor, it definitely looks like a monster.  But I never buy the extreme series CPU's.  I generally stick around the $350 to $600 range for the CPU.  What I need more than anything is a good graphics card and a lot of RAM.

Not a long time.  I'd guess 2-4 years.

The Yellowbellies
My God, that made me laugh!  They're so EVIL for ruining LBT 13 for us!  Just joking of course.

As for evil characters, I don't consider sharpteeth to be evil just because they're doing what's natural for them.  Evil is doing something unnecessarily bad for no purpose other than it gives you pleasure to do so.  Rinkus and Sierra from LBT 7 would fit that bill.  Pterano....I'd call him conceited and overly ambitious, but not evil.  The difference between him and the other fliers was that he didn't enjoy violence and hurting others like the other fliers seemed to.  Strut from LBT 2 is close to being evil in my eyes.  Dill and Icky certainly aren't nice, but they're still doing what's natural for them so I'd call them a grey area.

Computer and Electronics / Desktop Monitor Making A Buzzing Noise
« on: December 30, 2015, 05:24:05 PM »
Unplug the 3.5mm jack from both the back of the desktop and the back of the monitor, then plug it in again.  If it came partly unplugged from either the desktop or the monitor, it can make a buzzing sound.  If that doesn't fix it, then it could be the sound card.  Try plugging the monitor speakers into your laptop and see if it still makes the same sound.

I hope it's not a Walmart exclusive as I don't shop there.  But I'll probably buy it online anyway in Universal's new digital format and strip the DRM so I can actually use it.

Or you could watch it with a friend once they buy a copy instead of going about it illegally.
Nah, I've been burned too many times by crappy movies and software (I don't listen to music).  I buy movies and software, but only once I'm sure they're decent.  I can't tell you how many software programs I have to pirate in order to find something decent.  When I do, I buy it.  The last movie I bought was the Angel Beats series, but I pirated it and watched it first.  Since then I've pirated about 20 different movies/tv series and they were all crap so I deleted them.  If it was like $1 or $2 for a movie (like it should be), I wouldn't bother.  But $20 to $70 for a movie/tv series is asinine if it turns out to be crap.  Most people my age are doing the same thing.

I used to rent movies before I bought them, but that doesn't exist anymore.  You've got Redbox, but the selection is limited.  Netflix isn't great either.  Netflix will probably get this new Star Wars movie in about 5 years and by then 2 more will have come out.

Why do you think they don't let you return movies to the store if they're crap?  They claim it's because people will just copy them and then return them, but the reality is, the movie studios produce such crap content nowadays if they allowed returns, they'd go under.  Sure you have binge movie watchers that just watch a movie one time and then never watch it again, but they're in the minority.

They claim that ever time a movie is pirated, it's a lost sale.  That's total BS.  If I couldn't pirate, I wouldn't own 1/10th of the movies I do.  I have a conscience.  The copy of Angel Beats I purchased hasn't even been opened.  Why would I bother?  I don't even have a DVD player anymore (except in my computer).  Haven't for many years.  I bought it because I wanted to show my support to the movie studios, not because I wanted or needed the DVD.

I'll do the same thing with LBT 14.  I'll probably pirate it first because it's quicker than buying the movie in the stores.  But I'll buy it a few days later when I see it in Target or wherever.

I'll pirate it in a year or two (it's safer to wait a few years before downloading something that just came out).  If it's good, I'll buy the blu-ray or something.  Honestly I don't have to have the latest and greatest.  Even as a star wars fan, I can wait a few years.  It's better than wasting $20 on movie tickets and/or buying the movie just to find out its crap.  I do the same thing with games.  I'm still playing new PS3 and Xbox 360 games.  I don't want to waste the money on new stuff when it can be all new to me later down the road for either free or 1/4 the price.

The one exception is LBT movies.  I'll buy LBT 14 as soon as it comes out to show my support.  Even if it's crap, it will be worth the investment.

General Land Before Time / What Makes the Sequels Good?
« on: December 15, 2015, 02:02:15 PM »
I do agree that I look back on the earlier sequels that I grew up with and they seem more special than the later sequels.  However, I also want to know more of the story.  In movies, they try to make you care about the characters, and I care about Littlefoot, Cera, and the others.  I want to know what happens to them.  I want to see them as they grow and learn and have fun with each other.  Even LBT 13 was special because we got to see more of the gang.  I didn't like the storyline, and the yellow bellies annoyed me.  But it was still nice to see what was going on with the gang again.  And regardless of how LBT 14 turns out, it will be nice to get an update about how things are going after 8 long years.  I realize the characters aren't real and it's just a movie, but when you're watching it, you get into it.  And that's the goal of movie makers.

The Fridge / My sister is such an idiot
« on: November 27, 2015, 11:52:23 PM »
NOT smart.  Maybe when she gets raped or someone breaks into her apartment, she'll come to her senses.  The only thing I could think of is if you have a big scary friend she doesn't know, you could ask him to be a creeper to her while she's there and make her feel unsafe.  Just have her look online at crime statistics for the area she's wanting to move to and that will make her change her mind.  When she sees that in the last week there have been 3 murders, 6 robberies, and 19 assaults, she'll change her mind.

I'm not around as much as I used to be but I'd love to participate if Action is up for doing another song. It would be fun to do another community project on the brink of the next sequel.

The Fridge / What will LBT XIV Bring to TGOF?

It'll certainly breathe new life into the fandom.  But I wouldn't count on anything major.  Maybe 100 or so new members over the course of a year or so.  What would be really neat is if they create a dozen more movies over the years (and they're actually good of course).  That would give the forums a whole new life.  Us old timers on here would probably be in the minority. :lol

They might still have scenes to cut in order to get it down to the 90 minute mark.  We'll just have to see.

Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: September 22, 2015, 11:54:20 PM »
I just wanted to share a link with y'all where you can get all the episodes in FULL iTunes quality:

https://yp1.yayponies.no/episodes.php

First choose either 720p or 1080p, then go under the "downloads" or "torrents" heading to get the files.  They're all the same quality so you won't have a huge collection of higher and lower quality episodes.  Through the "downloads" links, you'll download the files from MegaUpload, which is the fastest way to get the files.

General Land Before Time / Journey of the Brave (LBT 14)
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:34:01 AM »
I'm very excited to see the new movie!  I can't help but wonder what it's going to be like after all these years.  Hopefully they learned their lesson with LBT 13 and won't give us a steaming pile of turd again.  They need an actual plot with actual plot development.  Hopefully they'll give it more effort this time.

I'm also excited to see that the animation has gotten a lot better.  I'm also excited that they are offering an HD version of it.  Though I'm not a fan of the cloud enabled stuff, I should be able to find a way to rip it from the cloud to the computer so I can use it in projects and watch it whenever I want to.

I wonder if this is how things are going to go now.  Instead of buying a physical disk in the store, you buy a product key card in the store like they do with software so you can watch it online or download it to the computer.  That would be pretty darned awesome.  So long as it's DRM free.  I don't expect it to be, but you never know.  I guess I can always remove the DRM if necessary.

Remember people, BUY IT when it comes out so they'll want to make the next one.  I know I'll be buying it - and I never buy ANYTHING when it comes to movies and TV.  It's mainly to show support.  I'll be pirating it before I buy it just because it's easier and I want to see it ASAP.

I'm just going to say this. To me, Anndi McAfee IS Crea! There's just no one else I can see doing the role these days. You can get the greatest voice actor ever, and I would STILL choose Anndi McAfee over the great voice actor. It's also the same with Aria as Ducky.

Disagree about that all you want! I'll support the role they have until the end.
I agree! I love Cera and she just isn't the same without Anndi Mcafee voicing her.. In movies 1-4, Cera sounded like too much of a brat. Now she sounds more tough, proud, and a bit stuck up, which is more like her character that I love haha
I also agree with you two.  After learning even more about Anndi, she seems to be more bada** like Cera...can't imagine a "soft" female portraying Cera😊.
Yup.  Totally agree.  I don't understand where all the hate is coming from with Anndi's voice.  I think it's great.
