Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Will the TV Series be continued?
« on: April 04, 2015, 03:58:02 AM »
Not likely.  Like with all shows, a low budget totally kills them.  You could tell the budget for LBT 13 was much lower than the budget for previous sequels, and the TV series' budget was like $5 an episode.

Pretty much ALL films and TV series that are wildly successful had huge budgets.  Some examples include Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Harry Potter, etc.

You reap what you sow.  If you give a show a dog sh*t budget, you're going to get dog sh*t.

I'm not saying that all shows that have big budgets will be a guaranteed success, but they're MUCH more likely to become popular.  I hope Universal has realized this and throws a good amount of money at LBT 14.  Otherwise I fear it might be another flop and LBT might be dead forever.  Still, I couldn't stand the fact that it died on the 13th movie.  The 14th would be much better.  Though honestly I'm hoping for as many sequels as they can make.

Frankly, I'll be happy to have the Gang of Five back.  Chomper and Ruby can visit from time to time if need be.  But I'd prefer it if they weren't permanent members of the gang in the official movies.

The Welcome Center / Ladies? Gentlemen? After 4 years, I have returned
« on: March 31, 2015, 06:14:11 AM »
Sheeeeit, I can't believe 4 years have passed.  It's good to see you again!  So many of the members I used to know and love have left.  But now with LBT 14 on the horizon and some old time members coming back, it'll be just like old times again.  Time to catch up again.  Have anything new planned?  Any new projects?  How about taking some snapshots of your current rig and/or room/house?  I've really missed having you around. :lol

General Land Before Time / Regarding ANY LBT 14 Topics
« on: March 29, 2015, 07:29:12 AM »
This is some really exciting news if it's true.  Until I hear anything official however, I'm not going to get my hopes up.  This still could be a hoax.  Unlikely with all the evidence, but any number of things could happen that makes Universal scrap the movie before it's released.

One thing's for sure though.  I'm going to actually buy this next movie.  I normally pirate movies before I buy them because I don't want to waste money on crap movies.  Unfortunately I only buy like 1 movie a year because 99% of them are so terrible I wouldn't buy them even if they were $1.  But I want to support the series.

I just hope they release it in Blu-Ray (1080p) quality.  Maybe even 4k later on.  But I'm betting it's just going to be a crappy DVD.  But if they release it in Blu-Ray or 4k, it will be the FIRST movie in decent quality.  DVD's were acceptable in 2005 and even in 2007 when LBT 13 was released.  But come on Universal!  It's 2015 now!  You've gotta keep up with the times!

LOL.  I just had a thought.  If they actually release this movie on Blu-Ray, I'll actually have to install a Blu-Ray player in my computer.  Maybe I can buy it digitally somewhere though.  But if it's DRM infested, I'll pass.  I want to actually OWN the content that I purchase.  *Sigh.*  It's so much easier to pirate than to buy legitimately.

So I basically have two choices:

1.  Buy the Blu-Ray and a Blu-Ray player and rip it into an MKV file.
2.  Buy it digitally and remove the DRM (not an easy thing to do, let me tell you!)

I can't wait to get new screenshots and design new images for thelandbeforetime.org and here on the forums.  That is, assuming the quality is better than a DVD.  Otherwise we're stuck in the early 2000's with the quality of images we can have.

Holy buckets.  I used to watch that show a long time ago when I was little (ages 7-8).  I don't still watch it, but maybe I'll go download it and watch some of it again for old time's sake.  The cartoon looks soooo old nowadays. :p

Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: January 20, 2015, 07:45:00 PM »
I don't know.  I just have no real connection to Spike.  He's almost like a background pony to me.  Sure he has a few lines, but it's mostly comedy relief and nothing really that important.  I'll admit he saved the Crystal Empire.  But it's rare that he does anything important or worthwhile for the plot.  It's really all about the mane 6.  But that's okay with me.  I don't dislike Spike, but it wouldn't really matter to me if he wasn't in the show anymore.

Recently I actually started writing an MLP fanfiction. It's the first time in a very long time that I am writing something for the joy of writing rather than something based on formalia and regulations (applications and the like). So far it's 25 pages and I am curious where exactly it is going to get.
Did you post it on FimFiction.net yet?  That's probably where you're going to get the best response.

Starday Wishes / Happy Birthday to me

41 huh?  I had no idea we had anyone on here over the age of 30 other than Kor.  Of course, I've been here 7 years so I guess we could have some members pushing 30 now that I think of it.  Anyway, happy birthday man!

General Land Before Time / LBT 14 accidently confirmed in my interview
« on: November 30, 2014, 06:47:31 AM »
If this is true it's gonna be so awesome to see LBT return!  They'll probably butcher it like they did LBT 13, but hey we can always hope right?  LBT is a great series and I would be the first in line to buy the Blu-Ray (or whatever digital content comes in the highest quality) right away!  Might give me the chance to get some good desktop backgrounds.  Since my highest quality source is DVD (640x480), I'd welcome a truly high quality screenshot to use as my wallpaper again.  Unfortunatley it's not 2007 anymore and technology has kinda left LBT behind in the dust.  I've haven't used an LBT wallpaper in a long time because of the lack of high resolution images.  I don't want a blurry wallpaper. :p

Hey, good to see ya Aves!  The board is still as alive as ever.  I know I'll NEVER leave GOF.  Though there have been one or two cases where I've spent a few weeks away from here.  I'm more of a lurker nowadays than anything, but I like to pop into a thread or two now and again.  It's nice to see a long-time member like yourself return to us.  I've been kinda missing some people and you're one of them.

The Fridge / Entire LBT collection for sale
« on: November 23, 2014, 06:49:56 PM »
Wow.  He's got some cool stuff there.  If I wasn't downsizing myself I might consider it.  But honestly I don't need a lot of that stuff as I already have it!  So breaking up the collection might be his best bet for actually selling it.  And the price seems too high to me.  But then again, I don't spend my time pricing collectable LBT stuff so maybe it's priced okay (or maybe it's a steal, I don't know).  I'm just offering a perspective from a regular person here.  I'd be interested in an item or two, but there's no way I'd buy the whole thing.  It's not just the price either.  I just don't NEED all that stuff. :lol

1988 Theatrical Release / "LAND BEFORE TIME - 35MM FILM TRAILER" on ebay
« on: November 15, 2014, 02:39:52 PM »
I have no idea how I'd even play the thing.  Not to mention the terrible quality it would be.  VHS quality is absolutely TERRIBLE.  DVD is acceptable I guess.  But 35mm film?  That's gotta be like 4x worse than VHS.

Of course maybe I'm wrong about this because I know you can still develop 35mm film and make a huge picture out of it that looks clear.  I don't know.  My knowledge of this kind of technology is severely limited.

Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:05:44 PM »
I watched Equestria Girls and even have it stored on my computer.  But I really disliked it.  It was your typical, cheesy, cliche show with high school concepts that haven't been a reality since the 70's.  And worse yet, they took the characters and bastardized them into these weird....things.  Applejack isn't really Applejack if you deform her into this weird human/hybrid thing.  She loses her spark, what makes her who she truly is.  Your body is...well....you.  If you change your body, especially into something TOTALLY different that kind of resembles the old body, it ends up being really weird and awkward.  No thanks.

@landbeforetimelower: Well, my opinion of the recent events of the show and the toys isn't quite that negative
Hey, I'm not saying I don't like the show.  I LOVE the show!  But these terrible decisions from the higher ups might end up ruining things.  I wouldn't be a happy camper if they ended up making the show a cheesy excuse to sell toys (which was basically what G1 - G3 was) with new characters popping out of nowhere and crazy stuff happening just so they can make a new toy out of it.  Frankly MLP was only as popular as it was back then because of the criminal lack of girls cartoons back in the 80's and early 90's.  If they released that smoking pile of crap today, it would most certainly fail.  No offense to any fans of the G1 - G3 shows (if there are any), but if you're a fan, you're definitely in the minority.  Not that there's anything wrong with that of course.  I'm just sayin'.

I hate Equestria Girls as well.  I don't like what Hasbro has been doing with the series anyway.  It seems all they're concerned about is selling their toys.  They're not selling well.  Gee, I wonder why?  Have you people seen them?  They're almost as bad as the G1-G3 pony toys.  But instead of redesigning them, Hasbro keeps changing the show.

Oh, it needs a wedding!  Girls LOVE weddings and pretending to get married!  Let's pull Twilight's brother out of NOWHERE and make him get married so we can make a wedding set!  Oops, that didn't work.  I know!  Another princess!  Let's make Twilight a princess!  Oops.  That didn't do too well.  I know!  Girls don't like the toys because they're not human!  Let's make the ponies humanized.  That will do it!

Ironically I'm sure making the humanized ponies made them sell better because parents not in the know are more likely to buy a "doll" for their little girl than a pony.  Most parents nowadays don't even know what their kids are watching or what their kids like.  They're just too busy.  But a big purple doll?  For only $12?  That will work.  And honestly, they're made better than the pony toys.  Pathetic.

Many other companies have made some awesome pony toys and figurines.  Heck, even the McDonalds toys were better than what Hasbro came up with.  I just hope they're done f*cking with the series to try to make their HORRIBLE toys sell.  So far the writers have been EXCELLENT at covering up the blunders of the higher-ups, but eventually they will fail.  Now we have weird colored ponies because I'm sure Hasbro was thinking that the toys just didn't stand out enough.  So they took the already horrible toys and made them horrendously colored in the hopes that will make them sell better.  Honestly, the stupidity of large companies still amazes me.

The Fridge / I'm Typing to You From a Windows XP Computer...
« on: October 01, 2014, 12:56:14 AM »
Believe it or not, I'm typing this post from an old Windows XP computer.  For those of you not in the know, support for Windows XP officially ended in April of this year (2014).  This means there will be no more security updates or fixes from Microsoft for Windows XP.

When I first joined the GOF forums here, it was 2007.  I was using Windows XP Professional computer.  Boy has the world changed since then.  We've got the mess that's Windows 8 (though that should be remedied by the next version of Windows coming out soon, Windows 10 - that's not a typo.  Microsoft is skipping "Windows 9").

Anyway, I'm typing to you from a Compaq Presario V5000 (pictured below).  I originally wanted this laptop very badly back in 2005, but decided against it and waited a year and got a Windows Vista laptop (BIG mistake).  The laptop is loaded with Windows XP Media Center Edition and has an AMD Turion64 1.79Ghz processor, 2GB of DDR Ram (upgraded from 512MB), and an 80GB ATA hard drive.  Honestly it runs pretty darn well.  I'm using Internet Explorer 8 just like I was back when I joined GOF (technically I was still on IE6, but that brower is so old I couldn't even load up most websites unless I upgraded to IE8).

I got this laptop on eBay.  It looks BRAND NEW and they claimed it was only used for a few hours then put on the shelf and never used again.  SMART tests on the hard drive confirm it only had 8 hours on it when I got it!  Talk about a blast from the past.

I've loaded up some of the old programs I was using back then.  Office 2007, Photoshop CS3, Tradewinds, etc.  Really not a lot has changed and I can still use this computer today.  Of course Windows XP is a terribly insecure Operating System by today's standards.  But so long as you know what you're doing online and know how to avoid malicious sites and ads, you'll do fine.

Anyway, I'm just reminiscing about the past and how much technology (and society in general) has changed since I joined GOF 7 years ago.  7 years really isn't that long, but a LOT of stuff has changed.  I hope GOF continues to exist decades longer.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate you guys and what this forum as done to affect my life.  I hope we all stay together forever.  It might be a pipe dream, but that's what I wish for.

EDIT:  Fixed image

This next picture is NOT a real photo of my laptop, but it gives you a more realistic idea of what it looks like in real life:

^Jeesh, that's rough Pokeplayer.  I don't even like to SHOP at Walmart, let alone WORK there!  Nightmare job.  My Great Aunt works at Walmart, and get this......it's by choice.  She loves working there.  How that's even possible, I'll never know.  She was a computer engineer back when computers were the size of a room. She retired but got bored after a year or two and decided to go work at Walmart.  I know she didn't do it for financial reasons.  Her memory isn't what it used to be and she sadly didn't keep up with her education, otherwise I'm sure she'd still be a computer engineer.  Computers were sooooooooooo different back then.  Seriously, when she describes how the old computers worked I get totally lost. :p Vacuum tubes.  LOL

As some of you already know, I'm a computer repair technician with a successful business.  But lately I've been looking to find a job where I can live where I want to (not in the city) and still be able to make it.  So I've started a natural health products website.  I scored an awesome domain name, registered as a legitimate business (LLC), I have a wholesale license, and I'm really hoping this will be a good business for me.  I'm still working on the website, but if you guys want to take a look:

www.findnatural.com

For now it's a drop shipping business, but I'm hoping to take the most popular products and buy them in bulk so I can lower my prices and be more competitive.  It's not 100% functional yet as I still need to integrate my bank account so I can process credit cards.  I've already set up the SSL certificate (https) and everything functions okay.  But as always, Internet Explorer compatibility is an absolute B****.  I also need to modify the responsiveness a bit more (so it's compatible with smartphones).  But so far, everything is going pretty well.
