General Land Before Time / Possible Locations of the Great Valley
« on: April 13, 2012, 08:40:06 PM »
If you're writing a fanfic, I'd say that Ashley Valley is a good place to imagine where the fictional Great Valley might have existed. But I also agree with the other comment someone posted - millions of years ago the arrangement of the earth was quite different (Pangaea), so, if hypothetically the Great Valley had indeed been a real place, for all we know it might have split up like pieces to a puzzle.
Thank you for sharing the photos, by the way - it's intriguing to see the semblance between the Great Valley and Ashley Valley. =) I had actually never heard of Ashley Valley before this, but its' likeness to the Great Valley is interesting!

General Land Before Time / Meaning of the LBT characters' names
« on: April 13, 2012, 08:28:48 PM »
Very interesting! =) A lot of characters' name origins are fairly obvious, but others are less so. Until reading the list, I had never even heard of Rinkus or Sierras' species. For the most art, I thought some of the characters' names were just randomly chosen and not connected with their species, or much of anything else.
I honestly can't think of any certain connection with Ali's name. It's possible it was just chosen without having been based off of anything.

Silver Screen / Kung Fu Panda sequels
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:53:05 PM »
I have to admit, I thought more-or-less the same thing.
The ending did seem slightly out-of-place when we saw everything that Po went through to come to terms with what happened to him in his past, and not to mention the seemingly newly-forged relationship, the father/son bond between him and Mr. Ping.
I honestly can't see how they would continue with that in later movies...it would be weird if Po's biological father met Mr. Ping...

Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:47:52 PM »
I don't have much to say, except that I was first aware of the new MLP show when I saw a few images on Photobucket. I think after doing some research out of curiosity, I found out about the show, and that it was a new MLP.
I didn't choose to watch any of it until later, when I realized more and more what a big fandom it was - so then I got curious and decided to watch a few episodes to see what all the fuss was about.
I can see how it would get addicting, but I actually don't watch it. XD
The biggest appeal, in my opinion, is the 'artwork' - the charming new look of the ponies in comparison to the original.

Character Discussion / "Secret emotions"
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:32:44 PM »
Lol, it would be interesting to see Cera fall for someone. I agree with LBTFan13, I can't see her falling or becoming infatuated with someone easily. And well said, that even if she did, it would most likely strike up competition. ^^ I'm thinking of an episode from 'Rugrats' (a show I really don't like, but had seen this instance) in which Angelica falls for a tough-guy kid like her, but instead of acting like she was smitten (which she was), she was competitive with him and tried to prove she was better, or tougher. I can see Cera doing something like that with a boy three-horn. Would actually be pretty cute if they did it right.

Character Discussion / Pterano
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:22:29 PM »
I'm not surprised there's a thread dedicated to Pterano, as he seems to be a fairly popular character among fans - myself included. =)
In fact I'd say that he ranks as one of my favorite characters in the whole series (the movies and shows I have seen, that is.)
In one of my other posts, I tried describing why I found Pterano a more interesting character compared to the others, but you're right, it's a bit hard to put into words. It could be that I find redeemable characters fascinating, because their consciences seem to be in a perpetual battle - like Pterano's, even though at the end of the 7th movie, he did seem to lean more on the 'good' side rather than someone who still struggled with his good and bad side...but we don't really know for sure.
I admit it'd be interesting if Pterano had a mate and if she were introduced in the movies or series, but...given his character, I don't imagine many female flyers would be willing to be with Pterano for an extended period of time. X) I could maybe see him with a female flyer who shared his ambitions, but that could just as easily result in the two of them competing, rather than getting along.

Pterano's dynamic character is also oddly appealing. It's not just his faults that are amusing, but his ego and belief that he (and maybe flyers/pterodactyls in general) is better than everyone else. Mix that with a misplaced desire to do good, and you end up with a fascinating specimen. =)

General Land Before Time / Does anyone but me...

I always felt more bad for Ducky when Mrs. Maia (or whatever that dinosaurs name was) tossed her away. Not when she got stung by bees.

General Land Before Time / Favorite Sequel
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:13:56 AM »
I cat my vote in for #7: The Stone of Cold Fire.
Ever since I first saw it it's pretty much been my favorite LBT sequel. And it's not all because of Pterano, either (he's always been a favorite character of mine ever since the 7th movie came out.) I can't quite put into words how the whole movie - the plot and the characters, even a few of the songs - tie in very nicely together in my opinion.
I'll start with the obvious - I'm rather charmed by the fact that a complex relative of Petrie's finally makes an introduction. Up until the 7th movie, as far as I know, we've only seen Petrie's mom and his siblings. I'm glad they introduced a relative of his that's more involved in the story, and what's more is that Pterano seemed to me to be a very 'human' character. He seems neither completely bad, nor completely good. He has faults, he makes mistakes, he has a conscience and can feel guilt.
So can the other characters, of course, but Pterano, more than anyone else, stood out as a LBT character who was more faulted than the others and who also seemed to struggle trying to live with these faults, and even either being unaware of them or being in denial of them.
And, as much as a lot of people didn't seem to like this, the Rainbow Faces also struck me in a funny, amusing way. =) I wasn't at all sure what to make of them, especially at the end of the movie, but they were a very different touch to the LBT universe.
I guess if I were to sum it up, I love the character development in the 7th movie, and I like the idea that a person who has done wrong can repent and make peace with those around them. It's the characters I really enjoyed from the 7th movie. =)

Welcome & Welcome back.  Always great when a member returns.  Do you have a favorite of the sequels and or a favorite character?
My favorite sequels have always been The Stone of Cold Fire and The Secret of Saurus Rock. =)
The Time of the Great Giving does come in pretty close to being another one of my favorites.
As for my favorite character, I think Pterano wins that one. To me, his character is one of the most intriguing, and somehow I find it easier to speculate on him more than the other characters. Pterano seems a little more of a mystery; maybe because he often seems at odds with himself.
How about yourself? =)

1988 Theatrical Release / How much time...?
« on: March 10, 2012, 04:15:04 PM »
This might be an insignificant point, but you could also take into consideration that (at least as far as I know) no one really knows how young dinosaurs age. =)
In the first post it was mentioned that Cera looked bigger next to her dad at the end of the movie, so she might have grown since then. Maybe it's safe to assume that different species of dinosaur age at different rates, just like today's animals do.
If Ducky didn't look different in size from her siblings, maybe they just age differently? There's a lot to speculate. =)

1988 Theatrical Release / Instead of sequels...
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:36:08 PM »
That certainly is an intriguing thought. I had wondered before, as well, exactly how much time it took Littlefoot and his friends to get to the Great Valley - and not to mention what other obstacles they must have faced during their journey.
I've always sort of looked at it from a "cut-and-paste" perspective, I guess you could say. That anything and everything we didn't see in the film is, maybe purposefully, left to our imagination and that it's up to the viewers to fill in the blanks. In my opinion, it really could be taken many different ways...
For instance, as far as behind-the-scenes scenarios that might have happened to Littlefoot and his friends: how would Don Bluth have created the additional parts of the story? How would fans/viewers have created it in their minds? Or how would todays' filmmakers tell that untold part of the story?
There's so much to consider, which makes it such a compelling topic.
I'm going to have to share the others' opinions though, in that it really would be a "double-edged" sword to actually try and create a prequel/midquel. I doubt it would ever be done, but it still would be interesting if was carried out. Technically, it really could be done - not just done, but done well - it's just sadly unlikely because of the way that people tend to make prequels/sequels. I imagine, that if a Land Before Time movie was made that told about the other dangers they faced while traveling to the Great Valley, it might end up being a watered-down version of the other sequels and wouldn't have the same feeling that the first movie had.
If anything, one interesting way to get a look into the unseen dangers - at least, a version of them - would be if someone would write a good, believable story about Littlefoot and his friends' adventures in the Mysterious Beyond.
In fact maybe there already exists such a story; I don't know. (It's been a while since I last browsed the LBT section of FanFiction.net, which seems to be where most LBT fanfiction is found.)

Hello, I'm Rachel and I'm rather new to this message board.
I had visited it some years ago, but having lost my original account information, I've had to create this current one (I hope I'm not breaking any rules by doing so - I always try to stick to forum rules as best I can.)
Anyway, this is an absolutely beautiful message board (I'm impressed with the design; you really don't always get such "eye candy" when it comes to most message boards) and I look forward to getting to know this place and the members. =)
I've been a fan of The Land Before Time ever since I first saw it when I was very little. I had seen most of the movies afterwards, at least up until the 8th movie.
I enjoy the plots and the characters very much; it's always been a charming and cherished thing in my life, and I greatly look forward to sharing it with others here. ^_^
