2008 GOF Award Winners

This year was unusual in that there was only one "close race".  Otherwise, those who won, won by a landslide in each category.  A big thank you to my talliers, Kor and lbt-ctylover for keeping track of the polls.  Congratulations to all winners and thank you for making the Gang of Five an enjoyable LBT community on the web!

I seem to have misplaced the join year banners for members.  Malte, do you have them somewhere because I can't find them.

There was no Newby award this year. We decided to ax that award for three reasons. One of them is that the situation in which mostly long term members had a chance for an award doesn't exist anymore. More than a third of the active GOF members joined within the last year and it was clear before the vote even started that many of them would be credited for their awesome contributions to the GOF
The second reason was that (same as in case of so many awards) it would be extremely difficult to decide for one of the many candidates for there are so many who deserve the recognition.
And finally the winner of last years Newby award disappeared and is not likely to reappear in the GOF anymore :unsure:
Therefore we decided to come up with a new award for long time active members who not just came to the GOF but also stayed. It will be issued to members who have been with the GOF for at least more than two years (which means that this year the awards for those who joined in 2004 and 2005 will be issued), who posted at least a hundred times, who posted within the last three months, and who were generally active on the GOF since they joined.

Have you tried reloading the page or saving the image you can't see so you can look at it on your computer or open another tab with the picture if you have firefox?

You just go to your profile and click "edit signature".  Then you just put the image url inside of your signature and enclose it with the [img] tags.

here's a procedure if you don't mind setting up/using a Photobucket account:

Right-click the image here and click "save picture as..."
Save it to your computer.
Go to Photobucket and set up an account if you don't have one.  
Upload the image to Photobucket.
Copy the address which appears below your image in the "IMG Code" section on your Photobucket account.
Paste this link into your signature here on the GoF.
Done. B)



For those of you not willing to set up a Photobucket account:

Right-click the image here and click "Properties".
Copy the address of the image completely.
Edit your signature and click the IMG button.
Paste the address into the box that pops up.
Done. B)
