Gamers Zone / DLC in gaming

And now this whole SF X Tekken thing just shows that some companies are not making DLC worth getting.

I always thought DLC was not worth getting anyways. I also agree that Capcom abuse their business ethics for blatant cash grabs but Activision and EA have been doing the same thing as well. It is sad how large companies want to take advantage of gamers that have an emotional investment in their games. Apparently, the money is making them  :crazy

The Fridge / How much do you spend on gas?
« on: March 20, 2012, 10:14:47 PM »
Since I live in Florida, gas isn't too expensive. Therefore, I only spend at least $12 worth of gas for myself and it has to be refilled once a week. I don't drive too often as I only drive to work, and to college. Sometimes the grocery store and laundromat.

The most I've spent so far was during the summer. The amount was $15 dollars because I was going on vacation.

How much do you spend on gas in your area and how much is it? From where I live, unleaded is $3.77.

Gamers Zone / DLC in gaming
« on: March 19, 2012, 02:13:13 PM »
I have just finished beating Mass Effect 3 and...I feel empty. :(
Now people would like to see a better ending as DLC. Will I purchase a DLC with revamped endings? No. Again I'm not willing to spend my hard-earned money on an add-on. It would be adding insult to injury to pay EA more money for what should have been made in the first place. <_<

If I payed for a better ending as DLC like this, I would ensure that every other game released by any publisher will have similar bad endings, so they can sell the good ones purposely as DLC. Something tells me that EA told Bioware to do this on purpose.

Gamers Zone / DLC in gaming

From what I read, Dreamcast was the first home console to use what is known as downloadable content. I was 12 at the time and I never knew what DLC was. I didn't really get into DLC until 2006 which had tons of DLC. However, some the "extras had questionable content. For example: EA charged people for tutorial videos of NCAA 07 Football and Madden NFL07 that were released at a later date. And we found some DLC content on the SFxTekken disc.

Personally, I've never downloaded any add on. Especially, since I already paid $60 to $70 dollars for the darn game! Why pay $20 to $50 for any add on with the game that I bought? Sure, DLC was made to extend the lifespan of a game but that is what online multiplayer is for. Collecting money IN-GAME should get you new characters, new maps, or any other extra content. This DLC trend in the gaming world can have a bad ending if it isn't implemented correctly. I feel that Microsoft, Activision, Capcom, and among others abuse DLC to garner more cash. I know how business works. I just wish they would throw us a bone to their loyal fans. Apparently, game companies are part of an income-dependent industry and will only change if they foresee a benefit to their bottom line.  People pay their hard-earned money to play their published games. Minimum wage will slightly increase or stay the same whilst everything else goes up. Next-Gen consoles are already planned and it won't make any positive outcomes as it will just make development more difficult. How about fixing the long loading times first. It's not like these consoles will have holograms.

I remember a time when "milking" a product on console games wasn't possible.
Regarding used games, I resell or trade-in a used game and I couldn't afford to buy a new game and end up buying another used game. Later on, I may purchase DLC or a $10 online pass and the developer gets extra $ they wouldn't have earned otherwise. Saying the used game market is killing their profits is only looking at 1 side of the story.  Also, when I traded in a game, I just bought a NEW game (At least a game I've never played) at the store, correct? The developer got a sale because I subsidized the NEW purchased item with my own $ from their traded old game That I've already played.

Again, DLC would be a positive thing if it was implemented correctly and wasn't so expensive. Hopefully, in the near future, we will not have to buy music and sound effects as DLC. What do you think of DLC or the game industry?

General Land Before Time / Nostalgia critic reference to LBT
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:07:07 PM »
It's funny that the Nostalgia critic mentioned TLBT in his review for We're back and now This Dinosaur film. We've had a LOT of dinosaur films but the most notable films in todays audience remember are of course, LBT, Jurassic park, and We're Back. Every other film that had Dinosaurs involved but weren't the main focus of the plot are King Kong, Godzilla, Ice Age 3, and probably Journey to the Center of the Earth (1958).

As far as my opinion of Dinosaur goes...I was 12 years old when I saw this film in theaters. I thought it was okay for what it was. Now that I'm older and looking back at this film I still think this is a beautiful film. It was like the Avatar of 2000 because of the graphics. But much like Avatar, the story was somewhat cliched. Unlike Avatar, it was forgettable. Overall, I think this is an average film for the kids. Still, I perfer LBT.

Gamers Zone / Spyro (all)

If you're still paying $70 for it, then something isn't right. I got a starter pack for my younger cousin and it was 49.99. A 3 pack of figures is about $30 and a single figure cost $13. Those were the prices I paid for mine when they were first released. The prices may have gone down for the older packs. The starter pack comes with Spyro (magic), Trigger Happy (tech), and Gill Grunt (water). You will need 5 more characters withe elements air, fire, earth, life, and undead to complete the game 100%.If you can buy it somewhere it's cheaper, you would probably spend around $80-90. Again, I'm not too sure about the prices for the figures as I bought mine when they were first released.
The game length is dependant on how much you like to explore in the game. It could be several hours. Of course, they also have adventure packs that come with an exclusive character, a toy that unlocks a new location , and two magic items. There are 4 of those. So I guess gameplay length can also depend on if you're convinced after playing whether or not it's worth it to extend the initial play through.
Yeesh! I think I'll wait until the prices go down. Hopefully, Activision won't pull the plug on this game by the time I try it. Besides, I would be spending a fortune just to complete this game.

Yeah the game does get cheesy at times. It’s quite predictable, the characters repeat animations in-game, and there isn’t that much depth to the characters. No surprises or anything. The game itself is not very complex. The plot is very simple and straight forward.
This quote is what may keep me from spending $69.99 for this game. If it was at least, $49.99 I'd probably try it out. Maybe I'm expecting too much out of this game. Then again, I worked hard for my money so I would expect a bit more. I don't think I would be able to resell the product either. Video games are expensive toys.

If you’re looking for a deep, more complicated game, skip this title. But if you want a game to play for fun and enjoy yourself, then try this game out.
Apparently, this game is for adults whom would like to play Skylanders with their kids. I may try this game out, but I'm afraid I might become bored of it.

How long is the gameplay and How much would it cost to complete the game 100%?

I never said Bruton needed to leave this forum. Nor did I antagonize him. I was just asking if he has anything else to post about rather than post multiple LBT threads that may not need so much as an explanation.

No need to get huffy... :neutral

Gamers Zone / Activisions' earnings and success
« on: February 21, 2012, 11:00:16 PM »
One more thing I want to mention. Activision makes a bunch of money. So what?

The real issue is what they do with that money. If they reinvest it back into their products to give me better gaming, I've got no beef. Let fools waste their money on over-priced collectors editions. However, in 2010 Activision-Blizzard gave out its first cash dividend equal to an amount of about $200 million. Now that's when I take issue - do gamers need to be screwed over so that some fat-cat can buy another ferrari? Or, more realistically, use that money to generate even MORE money and gain even MORE influence in the corporate business world? Now that's when I get ticked off. Because that's just plain greedy.

...Y'know Bruton, I've seen a lot of pointless topics you've made and bumped lately. Not many of us have time or the reason to post into something as pointless as a bee sting scene. We have lives to take care of outside of the internet. Do you have anything better to do that doesn't involve LBT?

Gamers Zone / Spyro (all)
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:52:49 PM »
I've never played Skylanders. I looked at previews of the game and found a lot of old Spyro references. However, I don't think I'll even touch this game anytime soon due to the expensive toy gimmick. Also, I feel this isn't a true Spyro game because his name was never mentioned and he seems like just an extra Skylander. In other words, a marketing tool.

I'm sure this is a good game but is it really worth a bang for your buck?

Sound Off! / RIP Whitney Houston
« on: February 14, 2012, 02:51:59 PM »
Well damn! This month we had deaths from Don Cornelius, Ali, and now Whitney Houston. What is going on here? It's funny that some people blame Bobby Brown for Whitneys' death when they haven't been together for years. Like Micheal Jackson, she had to fight those demons that haunted her for a long time. Hollywood is a rough place.  :( You may end up being a prisoner of your own success.

Gamers Zone / Activisions' earnings and success

If you want to know what has been happening with Activision recently you look up this article.

I've been a gamer ever since the NES days. My first game was super mario kart. I have never heard of Activision until I've played the underplayed game, Radical Rex. Recently, I looked them up and realized this mega company is incredibly successful. On the other hand, they are incredibly hated by the gaming community, too. They were always considered a "cash cow", "masters of milking" and "cash grab company where franchises go to die if they don't sell nearly as good as Modern Warfare."

I have only played Modern Warfare 3 on the Wii and thought this military fps shooter was okay. Yet, year after year of the same game, it gets solid scores from many critics. I always thought Mass Effect 2 was a far better experience for me compared to Modern Warfare 3 but apparently those people that gave Activision 1 billion within 16 days may not think so.

Plus, they have this Skylanders franchise which is selling quite a bit off of a marketable character like Spyro, whom isn't even mentioned by name through the entire game. And guess what? They are already throwing out a sequel of this game for this year.

So here is my question to you all. Why are people hatin' on Activision when all they are doing is selling their products and those people are just buying them up like their pockets are on fire? Why and how can "Activi$ion" be this successful when they really haven't done anything ground-breaking?
