Title: Star Wars Legends
Post by: Highsoar on May 05, 2017, 10:16:04 PM
Anyone else a devoted Legends fan? To me, that will always be the real Star Wars timeline...I don't like what Disney's making at all. And I'm glad there's a drive to get them to put out more books...it'd be great if Sword of the Jedi could be released, and more to fill the gaps in the Old Republic material and between Crucible and Legacy.

I gave up on "Legends" after the crappy "New Jedi Order" series and the even crappier "Legacy" series.  And since Thrawn is now canon again and KOTOR is become more and more canon by the day, I have no reason to cling to the old "Legends" timeline.  Good riddance to it.

Okay, you hardcore EU fans need to stop being so butthurt. The EU isn't canon anymore, and the Disney Star Wars films are excellent. Deal with it.

I don't mean any offense, but is it really necessary being so aggressive about this. All they said was that they liked the EU. Its their opinion. While I do prefer Disney to Legends, is it really necessary to be so cruel about something they like? Again, no offense meant.

I am a huge Legends/ EU (Expanded Universe) fan. I love Knights of the Old Republic (Revan, Bastila Shan), Mara Jade Emperor’s Hand,  Shadows of the Empire, Clone Wars (Darkhorss Comics), Tales of the Jedi (Exar-Kun, Ulic Qel-Droma), and Jedi Path & The Book of Sith.

I still need to read through a bunch of the old EU books at some point; plenty of my friends have insisted that Thrawn's story is the best of the series. Aside from that, my only real attachment to it was KOTOR I and II...I read some plot summaries for events that were set after the events of Episode VI, but I never really liked them that much and preferred to just think of the series as having ended with that. With the Disney sequel trilogy now out, I can safely say that opinion hasn't changed :p (although I did like Rogue One...well, the second half; the first act was a mess).

Interestingly, George Lucas actually had a similar approach to it all back before he sold the rights; he considered everything he worked on personally as being part of one timeline, and all the expanded universe materials as being part of their own separate timeline, with it being up to the fans to decide which one they personally preferred, which I think is a very sensible approach. Whether the series ended with VI, continued with the EU or with the Sequel Trilogy...it's up to you. :)
