Stand on the top floor and huck the box down the hole to the bottom floor. Depending on how sturdy the metal is, the percussive force might be enough to at least warp the metal and puncture a hole to pry it open with the rod.

Mr. Stick remembers how he already dropped metal box down the hole with force. How it didn't get a single scratch.

He tries again.

...

No single visible scratch.

Seems that his own force + gravity is not enough to open this box.

Step 1. Using the metal box as a bludgeon, shatter one of the two lamps on the bottom floor and remove the lightbulb. Shatter the bulb if it isn’t broken already
Step2. Remove the batteries from the flashlight
Step3. Commit the non-blank paper to memory and crumple it up. Shred the cardboard box into a pile with the paper ball in the center.
Step 4. Press a positive and negative end of each battery against the base of the lightbulb. This will ignite the filament.
Step 5. Press the filament against the paper ball to start a campfire. Use the fire to see if the blank paper has a message written in invisible ink/lemon juice. Toss it on the fire for fuel after committing any message to memory.
Step 6. Once the campfire is going, leave the metal box in the fire and stay in the top floor with the trapdoor shut, to prevent smoke from filling both rooms.
Step7. The campfire will superheat the metal, hopefully making it more malleable and damageable via either percussive force or stabbing its weak spot with the metal rod.

So many steps there!

Mr. Stick has to think... Breaking or destroying something in this WEIRD PLACE should be LAST option, only if nothing else can be done. Who knows, maybe we will need to-be-broken item in the future for something...

Mr. Stick made a decision. One lit lamp in lower room should be enough to illuminate the room. He will try to remove the lightbulb and get access to the base of bulb.

Mr. Stick turns off the light before "working" with electrical objects.

Step 1! Go!

!

He tries to remove lightbulb, but it won't move. Seems that it hasn't standart screw base. He can't remove it in any possible way.

He tries to remove lampshade to get a better view of bulb, but it won't move.

Taking a deep breath and gathering his strength, he hits the lamp!!!

He turns on the light to see results...

Lamp didn't get a scratch!

Seems that he failed on the very first step!

It makes Mr. Stick think that architect of this WEIRD PLACE made lamp unbreakable on purpose. To not let him get lightbulb or operate with it in any way...

Examine the flashlight. If it comes with a removable bulb we might still be in business

Mr. Stick tries to remove flashlight tip...

No use. He can only remove batteries.
And he doesn't think smashing flashlight is a good idea. He might need it.

<Ok, small announcement for everyone.

After previous post, I think I can give you one more "hint".
Solution to the puzzle is muuuuch easier that was described in that 7-steps procedure. XD
You don't need some deep knowledge of electricity, chemicals, universe gravity, or any other complex stuff. Not for this puzzle, not for any further puzzles. I try to make puzzles for ordinary people, so everyone can solve them.
Well, there MAY be some exceptions in the future. :) But not generally.

Good luck!>

Mr. Stick checks this possibility.

No. There's no any gap or hole between wall/floor and metal chest. And he still can't move chest an inch to make small gap.

Mr. Stick tries to twist or push weird tool's tips, and handle too, just in case.

No. Nothing can be done with them.

<Let's finish this chapter already, shall we?
C'mon, guys. Think "outside the box".

You already have everything at hand to open this box. There's no hidden or undiscovered stuff in rooms or in inventory items (relating to this puzzle, at least). You don't have to do some modifications to them, don't have to inspect them again.>

Can Mr. Stick shout FIIIIIIIINLAAAAAAAAAAAND at the box? ;)

Flathead770 and I have been discussing this a couple of times over the past few months, but we have no idea how to open the box. We would attempt to remove the rivets by prying open the box, perhaps by inserting the screwdriver from the side and using it as a crowbar?

Can Mr. Stick shout FIIIIIIIINLAAAAAAAAAAAND at the box? ;)

THAT'S IT! This stupid box won't stand against it!

Mr. Stick gives his best shout!

...

..

.

Box doesn't respond to mr. Stick's provocations.

We would attempt to remove the rivets by prying open the box, perhaps by inserting the screwdriver from the side and using it as a crowbar?

Mr. Stick already tried to use every items from his inventory directly on rivets - it's no use. Rivets won't budge.

Mr. Stick tries to find weak spot to pry box open, using his screwdriver-like tool...

No use. There's no single small gap on any side of the box.

Mr. Stick starts to think that nothing from his inventory can make this box open... What else he can use?

<It's over a year now since mr. Stick got that box from safe... And it's still unopened.

Hmm, now I'm thinking...
Maybe you all can't find a solution to this puzzle because, well, it's not standart, and - you could potentially miss one very significant detail, thinking it is not relevant and dismissing it, or not realizing it can work that way.

If no solution will be presented in a week, I will try to use a different approach of giving hints. About this puzzle, at least.
Still - try to find a solution by your own. :) Try to look at EVERYTHING in these both rooms and your inventory. Checking through stuff, don't dismiss them so quickly - make sure it really can't be used for puzzle solution. Try to look at them "at different angle".>
