A/N: I'm a bit self-conscious with fight scenes so I apologize if it's short or not up to bar. Not much else to say, I think we all know what happens next chapter. :(

TW: Blood, Gore and all that.

Littletooth snaps awake.

Early dawn and the various croaks and chirps from the local wildlife greets him, but he pays it no mind as the horrible stinging dread twists his tummy into knots, no doubt caused by whatever had woken him up.

Something was wrong, he could feel it.

His mother always said that if something was off his heart and body would feel it before his mind knew.

Your instincts are usually on the mark.

He tried to keep his breathing under control as he looked around their sleeping spot.

Slow down, be careful, be vigilant.

Nothing but bog, rocks and dead trees. No one around.

Still dread choked him.

He was about to wake his mother up when a hopper landed on her snout right in front of him, startling the daylights out of him.

He tensed up but after a moment relaxed as he stared at the hopper then it hopped away.

Littletooth let out a soft chuckle.

I was about to wake mother over nothing, I have nothing to worry about.

He then lept off his mother's snout to follow the Hopper.

"Hey, Hopper, come back!"

He followed it into a cave, wondering where it was going.

"Hey," Then it hopped away again, he was going to follow it but got interrupted.

"You again!?" A familiar voice vibrated off the walls, and Cera ran in front of him and bared her teeth at him, "Go away!"

Littletooth froze, watching as Cera turned away with a smirk proclaiming, "That's my hopper!"

"Uh...I saw him first," he said without a second thought.

"Well he's in 'my' pond."

Cera leapt out of the cave and slid down a slanted path.

Littletooth's tummy was in knots again, though he wasn't sure why exactly.

After a quick look around he could not see Cera's Dad anywhere so that wasn't what he was worried about.

He sighed and shook it off sliding down the path after his friend.

He bumped into Cera's back, the threehorn giving him a glare, then all the hoppers in the pond sank into the murky water. A big bubble rose from the pond, a hopper reflected on its surface, Cera pounced on it popping the bubble. Littletooth stared as another one rose and popped as it hit the air.

Then a bubble rose underneath him and he stumbled to get off of it before Cera popped it as well. Then she popped another.

"Over here!" He called her.

"Hey, this is fun!" She said.

Thump.

Over the sound of their laughter, Littletooth had barely heard it though he paid it no mind.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

Littletooth stopped, huh that's strange. "Cera?"

Thump.

"Cera!"

"What?!" She snapped at him, then she grimaced, "What is that noise?"

The ground around them shuttered and quaked, they gasped frantically looking around, the dread hit him harder than anything now, warning screaming in his head.

Then he saw it…

"SHARPTOOTH!"

All his mother's prior warnings could never have prepared him for this moment, this raw intense fear as he stared at the size of this beast, green skin, red eyes and so so many horribly sharp teeth.

Cera bashed into him in her attempts to flee, thankfully knocking him out of his trance, and they both ran back towards the cave.

Though they were cut off and were just barely able to turn and scramble away before the sharptooth's foot slammed down at the spot they just stood.

Littletooth screeched, panic making him switch to sharptooth speak.

"MOTHER!"

"HELP!" Cera screamed.

Frantically they sprinted into dead and decaying brambles, hiding behind a dead tree from the behemoth.

The Sharptooth gave a huff, "Where?"

Littletooth had a second of shock that he could understand what he was saying, he was looking for them obviously.

He backed up, grabbing Cera by the tail with him as the sharptooth came closer, she followed without complaint.

"Somewhere," Sharptooth roared quietly, as he stood looking over the brambles, "Here."

They both backed up, Littletooth pailing as the sharptooth started to climb down into brambles where they were sniffing all the way.

They ducked as the sharptooth pushed a big bramble into the ground, the sheer force and weight alone driving the spikes deep into the ground, Cera was covering her eyes but Littletooth could not look away.

He's seen his mother hunt some unfortunate dinosaurs for food sometimes but never would he think he would be on the other side of it.

He wasn't sure how the sharptooth is not able to smell them from this close, perhaps it was the murky water they were wallowing in, he didn't know. How could he know right now! He knew nothing but fear.

Sharptooth gave a huff of frustration and lifted his head away from their hiding spot. "Go," Littletooth said to Cera, nudging her to move with him.

On soft feet they gently and quietly walked away, coming up to a fork in the road.

Littletooth knew that the left path would lead further into the brambles, perhaps providing safety until sharptooth gave up and left for bigger prey.

"This way," he said, but Cera shook her head with a sound of refusal and ran down the other way.

"Come back!" Littletooth called as he ran after her, "You're going the wrong way!"

They ran out of the brambles and the second they did the sharptooth pounced almost snapping on them as they ran into another sanction.

Littletooth got tangled in the vines, sharp spikes dug into him and he was sure he was bleeding but he didn't care, he only cared about the sharptooth surely right on his tail. He looked and was absolutely right, sharptooth giving a roar, his sharp teeth glinting in the light.

"Come here."

He gasped.

No, absolutely not!

He struggled against the vines, adrenaline and panic pushing him through pain and out of the vines only for them to snap back right into the sharptooth's eye making him rear back in pain.

Littletooth could hear him roar horrible words his Mother told him never to say.

Though not a second after they left the brambles did the sharptooth land right behind them knocking them over to the ground. Sharptooth gave a big huff at them rearing back for a lunge. They did not have enough time to dodge, Littletooth knew in a panic. He knew they weren't going to avoid it, they were dead, it was over. He winced, snapping his eyes shut, bracing for death.

But the jaws of death never came for them.

A large blue tail barreled into the sharptooth's face knocking him flying into the rocks.

"Mother!?" Littletooth said.

His Mother nudged him to his feet.

"I'll hold him off!" She told him frantically, "Run! Don't stop! Keep going no matter what happens!"

Littletooth compiled, running off with Cera, but before he got out of earshot he heard the sharptooth speak yet again.

"Hello again, Serene. What a...surprise?"

"You know I didn't recognize you at first," the sharptooth said as he approached her.

Serene took a step back. "Red-Eye," She growled.

Out of all sharpteeth why did it have to be him!?

"I am quite surprised you're still kicking out here, with the drought and all…"

I could say the same, Serene thought though she did not give him the courtesy of responding to that.

"However, I don't tolerate being hit," Red-Eye said lowly, "You'll have to be punished."

Serene took a step back, teeth bared in a snarl. She had seen her ex mate kill for much less offences, it was perhaps the biggest reason she left him in the first place. Petty as all heck.

"But…" Red-Eye said softer, making her raise a brow in confusion, her pupils dilating in horror when she heard what he had to say next. "If you were to...hold those sap-suckers down while I took my time with them well...I might forgive your transgression."

"GO TO HELL!" Serene roared.

Red-Eye reared back in shock, however when the surprise wore off, he went back to normal standing position, a calm crooked grin forming on his snout, a smile that sent shivers down Serene's spine.

"Have I struck a chord?" He said simply, amusement clear in his voice.

It is then that Serene knew she messed up. She felt a sense of sprawling doom yet she tried her best to swallow it down.

Then he broke into laughter, much to her bemusement.

"I can't believe this! You would degrade yourself by taking in leaf eater hatchlings as your own?!"

Serene flinched, proving his suspicions right.

"You're insane," Red-Eye stopped laughing, voice becoming unnervingly calm, "Though what did I expect from an empty egger?"

"Though there's another thing. If you side with them-"

"-You can die with them."

She only had a split second to react, narrowly avoiding getting bitten as she stepped back. She headbutted him in the head, knocking him off balance again but he didn't fall over this time, recovering quite quickly as well.

Red-Eye lunged at her, taking a few snaps just a few inches away from her face. She snarled at him, smacking him with her tail.

She started to back up as he came for another attack.

He lept at her teeth posed to kill but then he lurched back, Serene fell for the trick and as she stepped back she realized her mistake as there was no land to get a foot hold on anymore and she slipped down a step drop. She landed hard on her side, rolling to a stop.

Serene cringed as her ribs burned under her skin, she definitely broke something, but before she could get her bearings, a heavy impact slammed on top of her, jostling her chest and making her roar out in agony.

She paled as she recalled just how Red-Eye tended to killed his prey.

The following roars of pain echoed for miles.

It made Littletooth stop to look, and for many years to come he wished he hadn't.

That horrible sharptooth was on his Mother's back, tearing into her. He could only watch in terror as he ripped into her flesh and sinew like the ravenous predator he is.

"MOTHER!" Littletooth shrieked, then he ran towards the fight, or rather tried to as someone yanked him back by the tail.

"What are you stupid, RUN!" Cera spat, "There's nothing you can do, but die over there!"

Littletooth didn't want to believe it but she was right, and if he didn't Cera's dull horn jabbing into his side painfully was enough to push him along.

He tried his best to ignore everything, his mother's words a montra in his head.

Don't stop no matter what happens.

She's going to die, he's going to kill her.

Panic rises in her chest, and pain overcomes her back, she screams and roars at the unrelenting pain, rocking her back, eventually throwing her attacker off.

She scrambles to her feet and runs, just runs.

Red-Eye took another lunge at her, but missed as she sidestepped him and reared back giving him a big whip with her tail.

Then she ran once more.

She stumbled as the ground beneath her gave way, the ground burst open as a horrible earthshake rocked the land..

Then Red-Eye jumped on her again pinning her to the ground, sharp teeth dug into her neck, horror shot though her.

This was it, it was over.

I'm sorry Littletooth…

But she only felt a slight pinch, then Red-Eye walked away, giving her smug side eye as he left towards where the children went.

She could feel the blood oozing out of her neck, like a slow trickling waterfall. A vein, he had cut a vein! He planned to kill her slowly. That bastard!

Serene's strength waned as her adrenaline tapered off, and the full force of the pain overcame her. Her mind screamed at her to get up, to stop her ex from harming the children but as her vision darkened, and as she slowly slipped out of the world, she knew she wouldn't be able to. She's not even certain if she's going to ever awaken again.

Save yourself, Littletooth, get away...get...away…

"Earthshake!" Cera cried, though Littletooth had the feeling that this wasn't just a normal earthshake.

The ground underneath cracked and crumbled away leaving a large pit to death in its wake. He gasped, almost slipping into the gap, then he ran off with Cera.

"Where do you think you're going!?" A loud voice roared, then Sharptooth landed right in front of them.

They turned and ran in the opposite direction.

"HELP" They both cried out.

"MOTHER!" He shrieked.

"Call all you want, she isn't coming little one," The sharptooth snarled, chuckling.

They ran up to a part of the land, Cera turned yet Littletooth had to scramble around as he almost slipped off the platform. The ground cracked upward sending him flying to the ground hard, his vision darkened and blurred completely, head pounding.

"Finally," Sharptooth said at last, approaching to claim his prize, though he didn't get too far as the earth cracked and hissed with smoke and fire, knocking him off balance as well, sliding sideways towards the edge of the abyss.

The ensuing boom of sharptooth landing behind him was enough to jar Littletooth back to awareness.

Panic overcame him as he tried to scamper back up away from the chasm, only for something to hold him down by the tail. He looked back and saw Sharptooth's stubby claws wrapped around his tail in a vice grip.

"IF I GO DOWN, I'M TAKING YOU WITH ME!"

Littletooth's life flashed before his eyes, yet something other than fear filled him, a sense of determination or was it anger? Didn't matter.

NO, I WON'T GIVE UP SO EASILY!

Sharptooth was rearing back his head in preparation for a bite, but Littletooth was quicker, whipping around, he reached out his neck and bit down hard on sharptooth's arm. It wasn't deep enough to be serious, but it was enough to make him bleed, enough to make him flinch and enough to make him let go.

Sharptooth shreeched out curses, and in one final attempt to take his life, he lashed his tail out at Littletooth.

The tip of it collided with him, sending Littletooth tumbling head over heels, fortunately he landed onto safe solid ground.

He laid there on his side, panting and trying to get his bearings, he heard Sharptooth give one final booming roar, the sound growing quieter and quieter till it could no longer be heard.

It was over…

Littletooth raised his head, spitting Sharptooth's vile life blood onto the ground.

He had always thought blood would've tasted similar to sweet bubbles, but he was completely wrong. No wonder Mother didn't want him eating meat, how does she stand the taste?

Mother…

He needs...to...find her. But he's so tired, he can't move, and physically can't will his legs to push himself up.

He'll rest, he doesn't want to, but he'll rest for a bit then he'll look for her and they'll both head to the Great Valley together. Yes...they will.

But why does he feel that's not the case in his heart?

Sleep overtakes him before he can answer that.

I am back with new chapy.  :ChomperOhhh Fanficion link https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13551313/4/Vale-Guardian

A/N so it's been a hot minute since I last updated my fics. Ehhhh, I've fell out of writing fanfics for a bit, it happens to me sometimes eep. Well, I'm back with this chapter and I have quite a large buffer of first draft chapters for both this story and for among sharpteeth so you'll see those around soonish hopefully.

TW: A little swearing, blood, gore, and character death. Tread carefully.

Word Count: 5,648 Words. 31,136 Characters.

Story Word Count: 18,619 Words. 10,2598 Characters.

Serene woke to a loud sound coming from the distance, in her half asleep state of mind she couldn't really make out what it was. She groaned in annoyance.

"Five more minutes please…"

The sound happened again, only this time followed by something beating in an almost rhythmic pattern of thumps. Littlefoot and Cera were bickering about something or rather but they were too quiet for her to understand them.

Serene raised her head squinting as she looked in the direction of where the noise was coming from.

Oh, it's only Sharptooth…

Thinking nothing of it, She laid her head down intending to go back to sleep.

"HE'LL EAT US. HE'LL EAT US. RUN!"

Serene's eyes snapped open.

SHARPTOOTH!?

Her heart did everything but explode in her chest, as she got to her feet immediately, both her and her son spotting the impending doom at the same time.

All of the children scampered off in the nick of time just before the Sharptooth stomped on the footprint they all had slept in. Serene stayed in place, frozen in complete and utter terror and shock as she stared at the one she thought she had killed, who now only stood mere inches away from her face.

Sharptooth took a step forward leaving behind the crumpled remains of a treestar.

Looking at her now ruined gift seemed to break Serene out of a trance, and in a panic she took a swipe at him with her tail-

-only to faze right through him entirely.

NO!

Sharptooth flinched, but only for a second and that was not even close enough to deter him as he then gave chase after the children

Serene gave another futile swipe, stumbling and falling onto her knees.

I can't do anything!

ANCESTORS HELP ME!

The children ran towards a crack in the wall, Cera slipped through yet Spike and Ducky had gotten stuck, not to mention Littlefoot had not even gotten to the wall yet. The sharptooth landed right behind him, the tremble of the ground made him stumble but he quickly recovered, ran up to the others and tried to push his way to safety.

With all tenses of clarity now buried under panic, and with a ferocious battle cry Serene charged, and at the same time both her and the sharptooth took a mighty leap, Sharptooth in an attempt to claim his prey and Serene in an attempt to bodyslam him.

Serene crashed through him and onto the ground, her momentum so great that it sent her tumbling head over heels through the wall and down the steep rocky slope behind it.

In reality her fall only lasted a few seconds, but to Serene it felt like forever before she tumbled to a stop. Her rapid breaths were heavy, her heart still hammered away and her sight was spinning around and around.

Had she taken a tumble like that while she was still alive it probably would've killed her.

When her heart no longer pounded in her ears and the world stopped spinning, she was clearly able to hear Sharptooth's snarls as he struggled to get through the wall, but thankfully he wasn't able to get anything more than his snapping jaws through the crack.

Serene didn't bother getting back to her feet yet, content to just lay where she was and try to get her bearings.

"Now will you believe me?" Cera spat.

"I'm sorry," Littlefoot said. "We're safe now."

"Nobody is safe with you."

Serene grimaced, avoiding their gaze as she sheepishly wrapped her tail around herself.

She...wasn't lying earlier.

Serene stilted her mind, as if her voice and mind were one and both couldn't find the words to say anymore.

It was all too much right now, too much stress, too many feelings right at this moment, too many revelations.

She was wrong.

What else was she wrong about?

I should've kept an eye on her.

She squeezed her eyes shut, a pained sigh leaving her maw.

"Look…" Littlefoot gasped, then his voice lit up in wonder, "it's the rock that looks like a longneck, just like my mother said…"

Serene stood and turned, her eyes lighting up in awe at the display before her. A tailless longneck made of stone stood on a throne of rock.

A beacon of hope to everyone who sees it.

And hope she received, it almost made her tear up in relief as she chuckled breathlessly.

"We're going the right way!" Littlefoot cheered, "The way to the Great Valley!"

Serene stopped and gazed at the rock that looked like a longneck yet again, with each time she did so it got smaller and farther away, and half way up this mountain it looked like only a hatchling now.

How many times had she stopped now, six?

She looked over her shoulder at the gang lagging behind, Littlefoot was at the forefront however the others had some difficulty with the climb, traveling was much harder while alive she supposed, and harder then that when you are a kid.

Serene climbed up further with eaze, continuing slowly and occasionally pausing as to let the others catch up, she eventually got to the lip of the mountain and pulled herself up onto it. She gazed down into the valley expecting lush forests and crisp water yet...

She found a wasteland.

The ground below was dry and rocky, not a sign or any evidence of plant life in sight, rocky spikes rose up almost blocking out the great circle.

"This is your great valley!?" Cera's incredulous voice echoed across the wind, "You're crazy!"

"I'm leaving," Cera turned and started to walk away.

"Cera, we have to keep following the bright circle," Littlefoot said.

"I'm taking the 'easy' way for once."

Littlefoot jumped in front of her, cutting her path off. "But it's the wrong way!"

Serene felt incredibly awkward standing there as did the other members of the gang, she didn't know what to make of this argument nor did she know what to do about it.

"Says who?" Cera asked.

"My mother."

"Then she was a stupid longneck too."

The other three flinched, and Serene sucked in a sharp inhale of breath. She wasn't upset by her words, she didn't take them to heart-

...but Littlefoot did.

"Take. That. Back…" Littlefoot snarled, every syllable pronounced dangerously.

"Never!"

A dispute over loved ones, especially dead ones, was often violent even rivaling fights for one's own life against sharpteeth, Serene has seen this first hand before. A fight was soon to break out, it was inevitable at this point.

Littlefoot reared up kicking out his feet in a display of pure rage. "TAKE IT BACK!"

"NO!"

Then it all exploded.

Before anyone could react Littlefoot rammed Cera in the chest, sending them both over the edge of the cliff and rolling down the steep slope.

Serene leaped down after them, Spike, Ducky and Petrie landing after her just in time to see the fight Cera and Littlefoot were engaging in.

"Let go of my leg," Cera roared, then she crashed against a rock. She springed back immediately, hopping back into the fray.

The other three tried to hide and look away but like Serene they couldn't take their eyes off the fight going on in front of them, even Spike who hid his face in the sand couldn't get away from the sounds.

"Take that!"

Serene just didn't know what to do, as usual she couldn't do anything. Nothing at all, and that's what bothered her the most.

With one final ram Cera knocked Littlefoot down, she then stepped away with a humph but Littlefoot wasin't done with her yet.

Sucking up his tears he got to his feet and charged at Cera one last time. Cera who was completely expecting this turned to face him and-

A blood curdling scream filled the air.

Cera stared in shock as crimson liquid trailed down her horn and onto the ground.

The other three stared in horror.

Serene froze, her mind overloaded.

Littlefoot had a deep gash in his side, blood poured out of the wound at an alarming rate, his legs buckled underneath him sending him crashing into a sobbing mess on the ground.

Serene immediately ran over to him and curled her tail around him.

"Littlefoot! Littlefoot are you alright!?"

Does he look like he's alright?! She chided herself.

No!

"Why did you- I- I didn't mean to-" Cera stuttered.

Serene gave a dangerous huff, all her instincts telling her to bat away the offending threehorn as if she were an egg stealer, yet she held back, not like it would've mattered considering she couldn't really hit anything, but she was only a kid.

A kid that hurt her kid…

"Just leave us…" Serene whispered bitterly.

Almost like she had heard her, Cera hurried away from them, head hung low in the clearly apparent awkwardness she felt, heading towards the canyon path.

"GO ON! GO THE WRONG WAY!" Littlefoot suddenly shouted, making everyone jump at his shrill voice. He dragged himself to his feet, blood still oozing from his wound, his voice went quiet as he added. "We never wanted you with us anyway…"

Littlefoot slowly struggled his way towards the steep hill leading towards the great circle and tried to climb it. The loose rocks and pebbles made for bad footing and soon Littlefoot's foot sank into one of the weak rocks making him slip back down the slope, a pained whine leaving his lips as he arrived at the bottom.

"Littlefoot, you're hurt," Ducky said, staring at him with a deeply concerned expression, "You really shouldn't be doing that, oh no no no."

"It is way too hard, yes it is," Ducky rubbed her arm nervously, "...and well...Cera's way is easier…"

"I think so too," Petrie agreed, giving Littlefoot a sheepish smile.

Both of their eyes bore into the wounded longneck, silently pleading for him to join them, though their faces both fell even more at the shocked and betrayed expression Littlefoot gave them, a confirmation of what they both feared.

Serene knew what he was thinking, it was quite obvious from his look of disbelief and she had much the same thought.

You're expecting me to follow her after what she's done?!

Littlefoot's expression snapped to bitter anger and without a word he attempted to climb up the slope again. This time however, his anger gave him enough of a push to get farther up the hill then last time. His footfalls kicked up loose rock which tumbled down on poor Petrie who was trying to chase after him.

"Flathead wait!" Petrie called after him, struggling to keep up against the sliding rocks,"No be angry!

Then finally the rough terrain and the sliding rocks was way too much for the flyer to keep up with and he slid back down, voice pleading out to the longneck on his way down.

"Waiiiiiiiiiit."

Ducky grimaced, glancing between both Littlefoot climbing up the slope and the path Cera went down. She did this a few more times, looking more unsure each time. Then she gave a frustrated sigh, her face scrunching up in anger. She completely and utterly resented this situation she was facing.

She was stuck in a rock and a hard place. On one hand neither her nor Petrie wanted to leave Littlefoot behind, but neither did they want to be left behind either.

Ducky sighed again,"Come on Petrie, we need to catch up with the others, we do, we do…" the Swimmer grabbed Petrie's hand and helped him to his feet, and they both ran towards the path Cera went down hoping to catch up.

"Cera," Ducky called, "Cera! Wait for us, we are coming with you, Cera!"

"Cera, Spike, wait!"

With a mighty rockslide Littlefoot came tumbling down with a shout. Littlefoot gave a blood curdling scream as the rocks painfully scraped against his wound.

"STOPPPP" Serene shreaked, sobbing as she begged him painfully, "Just stop it Littlefoot, please. No more, please….PLEASE!"

Littlefoot just laid there breathing as no longer had the strength or will to move anymore, Serene curled around him again inspecting his wound through her blurry tear filled eyes, she looked around for something, anything...but found nothing, not even a single leaf to stanch the blood. She could only pray that the bleeding would stop on it's own.

She gently lapped her tongue across the dirt filled wound, this did not accomplish much yet she hoped her son would get the idea.

And he did, trembling, Littlefoot started to lick his wounds, flinching and whimpering in both disgust and pain with each flick of his tongue.

Yes, yes that's it…

When the wound was as clean as he could get it, Littlefoot's body gave out and he slipped into an uneasy rest.

Rest, my dear sweet Littlefoot.

Serene gave a low heavy sigh but it did nothing to lessen the feeling of dread in her heart.

The ground trembled slightly, raising her alarms. She almost expected Sharptooth to come yet he never did and thus she realized it must have been a natural occurrence.

She stood on her hind legs to get a better look. Over the lip of the canyon wall she saw it in the distance, a big mountain with smoke and rivers of fire trailing down from it.

The Mountains That Burn…

A deep dark frightening chill went down her spine and into her heart freezing her to the bone.

The others went that way.

Cera was leading them into destruction.

Someone should really look after Cera…

Cera was fine, anything down there is long dead.

I. Met. The Sharptooth!

Her heart told her what to do, yet…

Serene glanced back at Littlefoot. His chest rose and fell, the only sign of life, however he almost looked like he was…

Please be okay, she prayed mentaly, Please don't be...gone.

She squeezed her eyes shut, grit her teeth and shook her head.

She cursed as she thundered down the path the others had taken.

"Damn it all, Cera!"

"HEEELLLP!"

Petrie's screams echoed across the fire fields, reaching her ears immediately.

Racing among the hard ground, Serene also heard the calls for help from Spike and Ducky, and when she spotted them her mind went into problem solving mode.

Both of them were stuck on top of a floating rock in the middle of a lake of fire, the platform started to sink into the fire, her breath became shaky at the sight of the trouble they were in.

She saw a rock sticking out of the sand, if she could just push that down then just maybe…

Pushing over this rock would've been so trivial had she been alive, yet as she pushed with all her might it was proving nigh impossible, pain coated her mind yet she pushed through. She tried so hard but it only moved it an inch.

A sharp shrill scream broke her concentration, Ducky and even the normally quiet Spike were screaming out a death cry.

A harsh popping explosion made Serene reel back in surprise, their screams raised in volume then quickly went silent. Ducky's and Spike's horribly burned bodies continued to sizzle as they slowly sunk into the lake of fire never to rise again.

Serene froze staring at where they once were. She dry heaved, she was disgusted, nauseated, she hadn't eaten anything since she died but she wanted to throw up so badly right then and there. The smell, ancestors, the Smell!

Oh, Ancestors…

Ducky was so...so sweet and Spike was her chubby baby boy. They were only children, Spike wasn't even a year old for paradise sake!

Why…

She could hear Petrie screaming again, and she stole one last glance at the spot where they once were before she squeezed her eyes shut, grit her teeth and ran towards where the Flyer's screams were coming from.

I'm sorry!

Serene came upon a broken arch, upon looking down she saw a big tar pit below and Petrie was stuck in it, he struggled in panic and had trouble keeping himself at the surface.

Her head whipped around looking for anything that could help, the only thing she saw was a small dead tree sticking out of the muck, however it was way out of Petrie's reach.

Her heart dropped as she slowly came to the horrifying conclusion that she could do nothing to help.

A horrible trepidation overcame her as she simply watched the Flyer's weakening struggles as he became exhausted.

It didn't take long for Petrie to become so tired that he could no longer keep himself afloat.

With one final push, he surfaced for the last time giving a wretched cry of defeat before disappearing into the murky depths. Bubbles forced their way up to pop at the surface but they soon ceased to appear. Petrie never surfaced again.

Petrie had always been scared and now she knew why, life was cruel…

Serene felt numb, her head hung low and her tail slinked along the ground as she turned and dragged herself off to where she thought Cera might've gone.

What's the point, she's probably dead…

Surprisingly, Cera wasn't dead yet as she heard her screams coming from a cave. She entered the cave and saw quite an odd sight.

Cera was being attacked by a trio of domeheads. The threehorn ducked and weaved as she ran, narrowly avoiding each headbutt they dished out. Serene flinched every time a hit connected against the walls or ground. One single hit could mortality wound or even kill her outright.

"Help!" Cera yelled as she was cornered, all three slowly closed in on her, mouths open and drooling in anticipation.

Were they going to...eat her?!

This was not a territory dispute, they were definitely going to eat Cera like sharpteeth! Weren't domeheads leaf eaters? Apparently these weren't or the lack of food drove them into insanity, either way this wasn't going to end well for Cera.

Wincing, Serene snapped her eyes shut, moved her head away and for good measure covered her eyes with her tail.

And it didn't end well.

Cera screamed in fear then the domeheads made snarls as they pounced on her. Her loud howls of agony and the sounds of her flesh being ripped and torn asunder filled the cave.

Cera's screams faded into gurgles as if her throat had been ripped open, Serene wondered when it would all end.

But soon the gurgles stopped and later after that the flesh ripping and munching was replaced by content growls and snoring.

Serene slowly opened her eyes. There wasin't much left of Cera anymore, she was only a bloody ribcage and skull, small bits of uneaten organs left hanging among the bones. She was completely and utterly unrecognisable.

One of the domeheads was asleep on the floor and snoring after his meal, while another one was sitting against the wall patting his belly and sighing in content, then he softly roared to the third one as if he was chatting with them in sharptooth language.

Suddenly, Serene had flashbacks to finding her son's severed tail in a puddle of blood.

I need to- I need to get back to Littlefoot, she thought numbly.

Serene turned and dragged herself back the way she came, feeling more like a failure then she ever did in life.

The canyon was deadly quiet.

A place now devoid of any sound, not even the dusty wind met her ears. It felt freezing, despite the overwhelming scorching heat.

In her heart she knew she was too late.

There was no hope left.

Littlefoot had not moved since she left him, a small puddle of drying blood lay underneath him.

Serene laid down in front of him, and gave him a nudge. She did not know why she did so, in truth she did not expect him to move and he didn't.

His chest didn't move either.

She didn't have the mental strength to scream or cry, tears fell from her numb eyes at a steady pace yet she could not sob or do anything but lay there staring at her son's body.

All of her children were dead.

And there was nothing she could do about it.

Everything was futile in the end. She had saved him on that day but it only led to this anyway.

The sound of footsteps on the hard ground broke her out of her thoughts. A predator had come to feed. Serene closed her eyes and gave an irritated sigh, slowly getting to her feet.

He may be dead but Serene would be damned if she let this sharptooth eat what was left of her son.

She turned to face the sharptooth, ready to use all of her strength to punish whoever tried to eat Littlefoot, only to find Rooter standing there.

Serene blinked at him in confusion before the anger set in.

"What do you want?" She said, frustration leaking into her tone. "Have you come to mock me? Is that it?"

Before Rooter could say anything, she continued into a rant.

"To come and tell me you were right and that I don't know anything?"

Rooter stared at her with a blank yet slightly irritated expression.

"Well I'll say it then.

I failed.

Some 'Guardian' I turned out to be. I can't even save my Ancestor damned children much less some 'Vally' I've never even seen before.

So you were right all along, I didn't know what I was getting into, are you happy that you were right-"

"-Will you be quiet for five seconds!?" Rooter snapped, cutting her off.

Serene glared at him, yet she went silent.

Rooter gave a mix of a groan and sigh, rubbing his face against one of his forelegs.

"Just...close your eyes and repeat after me…"

Serene gave a burning stare, both outraged and insulted wondering what in the world he was talking about, yet when she saw Rooter's even hotter glare back at her she knew if she didn't humor him she would never hear the end of it.

So begrudgingly, she closed her eyes.

Rooter sighed again. "This…"

"This," Serene repeated, feeling very dumb and still very much furious.

"Did,"

"Did,"

"Not"

"Not"

"Happen."

"Happen," Serene finished.

"There...what did that even accomplish? ...Rooter. Rooter?"

The only thing that answered her was soft snoring and the sounds of Cera and Littefoot bickering among themselves, and also the loud thumps getting closer and closer to their location.

Wait a minute…

Serene looked down and saw the gang laying in the footprint again, most of them sleeping but Cera and Littlefoot were whispering to each other again.

She was about as giddy as a ground crawler who found a fallen tree star.

It reset, everything reset!

Thank you, Rooter!

Happy tears fell from her eyes, and her tail whipped around uncontrollable.

They were alive, her kids were alive again!

"HE'LL EAT US! HE'LL EAT US! RUN!" Cera screamed and ran off.

Wait, SHARPTOOTH IS BACK AGAIN!

The sharptooth chase went about as best it could the first time, not like she could do much to stop him in the first place, no change was needed at that moment.

Serene went ahead of the gang, scurrying up the mountain they were climbing again. And, after a moment of thought, she leapt into the same dry dead valley they were stuck in last time. Then she waited for the others to catch up.

Soon both Cera and Littlefoot tumbled down into the canyon, followed by the other three.

Serene got in between the fight, the feeling of the two passing through her legs felt weird yet she shook it off as she had more pressing matters at foot, like breaking up the fight.

"Littlefoot- Cera!"

"Let go of my leg!"

She winced upon Cera hitting the rock. "Stop this at-"

"Take that!"

Cera gave one final ram knocking Littlefoot to the ground, she gave a humph as she started to walk off.

"That's enough, Littlefoot!" Serene demanded, rearing up and slamming both her forelegs onto the ground to add strength to her words.

Littlefoot gave a glare in Cera's direction, but he only sobbed and snapped.

"Go on, go the wrong way! We never wanted you with us anyway!"

His words were the same yet they were more angry then pained, a relieving change to the timeline.

Littlefoot started his climb towards the bright circle again, having a bit of trouble but not as bad as last time.

"Come on, we have to keep going," Littlefoot called to the others.

"Cera's way is easter."

"I think so too."

"Flat head, no be angry, Waiiiiiiiiiit."

"Cera," Ducky called, walking towards the others with Petrie in tow. "Cera! Wait for us, we are coming with you, Cera!

Cera, Spike, wait!"

Serene watched as they left towards The Mountains That Burn, heart almost dropping yet determination filling her as she got up and went towards her son.

"You have to go after them," She told him.

Littlefoot glanced behind himself, gaze faltering for a second before he grimaced and turned away. "Why should I even bother?" He asked himself.

"Because...they are your herd...Your family...and family sticks together."

"They abandoned me…"

"They made a mistake...they just haven't realized it yet."

Littlefoot sighed and prayed under his breath, "Mother, what do I do?"

Serene knew he was only talking to himself, still his call took her off guard, making her pause for a fraction of a second before she knew exactly what to say.

"Your heart already knows what to do…"

Littlefoot stopped his climb, pausing for many moments, his expression had faltered into deep contemplation before he sighed and let himself slide back down into the canyon.

When he turned, Littlefoot's expression was set in determination, and he bolted down the path the others had taken.

"HEEELLLP!"

Petrie's screams echoed across the fire fields, reaching her ear immediately.

Racing among the hard ground, Serene also heard the calls for help from Spike and Ducky, she wasted no time in pushing her head against the rock near the fire river.

"Littlefoot!"

"Ducky!"

"Help, Littlefoot!"

"Hang on, I'm coming!"

She heard her children call out to one another, and seconds later she felt Littlefoot crash into the rock. It wobbled back and forth and with another shove and a grunt from both they pushed it over into the liquid fire.

Ducky slipped from Spike's back and almost fell into the fire river with a yelp.

Littlefoot hopped on to the rock, grabbed Ducky by her tail and put her back onto Spike's back.

"Quick, this way!"

After spotting that they had not enough room to hop back, and with quick thinking Serene nudged a rock that was floating on the river towards them which the three quickly hopped back onto land with.

Serene wanted to sigh right then and there but there was no time for a break yet, there was another one to save.

They all hopped over the arch and all but crashed into the tar pit, Littlefoot grabbed onto the dead tree with his tail then he grabbed onto Spike with his forelegs as the spiketail moved ahead of him.

"Flathead, Ducky, Spike! Petrie am so happy!"

Ducky climbed on top of Spike's head, her tail clinging around his nose as she leapt into the tar to reach the drowning flyer.

However, her tail slipped and at the same time that Petrie climbed onto Spike's head Ducky fell into the tar.

"Help!"

"Ducky!"

Petrie lurched forward grabbing Ducky's tail as his talons clinged to Spike's nostrils causing quite a bit of discomfort to the spiketail.

"Petrie, pull!"

And as Littlefoot pulled back and up, Serene started to notice the cracks in the dead tree getting bigger, and the whole thing starting to buckle forward. With another pull the tree shattered into pieces sending them all into the tar.

Oh, dear. How am I going to get them out!?

"Help!"

They all screamed.

"Help!"

Cera screamed as a very angry domehead ran after her, slamming his head into the floor as he tried to pounce on her.

Cursed lass got into trouble again, Rooter mused as he watched the chase unfold.

She skidded to a stop as a female domehead cut her off but Cera turned and ran before she could headbutt her, the domehead missing her attack much like the other did.

Agitation hit him yet he immediately swallowed it down. She's late.

Two Domeheads cut her off in a pincer movement with one behind her and one in front. Cera jumped, only narrowly avoiding a crushing blow as they collided with one another. With a scream Cera tumbled down onto the floor, rolling into a clearing

Cera shrieked at the sight of domehead popping up right in front of her, while the other two started to close in, their teeth bared and tongues hanging loosely from their dripping maws.

"Help me, help me. HELP!"

"Ancestors sake!" Rooter complained, "Where is the Vale Guardian!?"

"Right behind you."

Booming thunder cracked from outside like a terrible roar reverberating around the cave, a strange chattering sound followed repeating itself again and again.

Everyone stared at the horribly inky abomination stalking towards them. It's skin was black as night and oozed like fresh tar, it had too many legs, a bone attached to its lower parts, antlers and spikes stuck out of it's head and back, white beady eyes stared out at them as it's trunk swung back and forth.

"What in the great circle is that!?" Rooter proclaimed.

"A work of my creation," Serene said, chuckling as she smirked.

Rooter stared at her like she was out of her mind.

Completely and utterly terrified of said creature the domehead trio bolted from the area, while Cera was frozen in place. She covered her eyes with her forlegs as it stumbled over to her.

"Get away, get away from me!" She cried.

Cera shrieked as it's trunk picked her up by the tail.

"Stop it, let go of me!"

Serene continued snickering, as the two watched. It almost seemed like she didn't care about this situation, or Serene had gone mad, or maybe Cera wasn't even in danger…

Wait a minute.

Rooter had the sneaking suspicion this was a trick.

Cera continued to yell as the monster lifted her higher.

"Help! HELP. PETIE, SPIKE, DUCKY! HELP!" She yelled, covering her eyes with her foreleg again.

"Cera," Ducky's familiar voice met their ears, however it was a bit distorted from the tar covering her "It is us."

Cera hanged there, just trying to catch her breath, a moment later the realization set in, the rest of the gang's upside down tar covered faces giggled and laughed at her, with an annoyed grunt Cera grabbed her tail and yanked hard setting her free but also sending her falling to the floor with a yelp.

"I knew it was you all along!" Cera snapped, trying to save face yet it was in vain as the others continued to giggle and laugh at the tar covered threehorn, "I knew! I did!"

"How'd you get them out of the tar?" Rooter asked.

"It wasn't that deep," Serene answered.

"Oh, get out of my way!" Cera snapped almost stomping over Ducky as she passed them. She closed her eyes and held her head up high, but she wasn't looking where she was going and as a result slipped on a puddle of tar and landed on her belly.

Serene wheezed, joining the gang as they broke into laughter again.

Rooter shook his head and sighed.

Cera stuck her tongue out at them as she walked away and again she wasn't watching where she was going so yet again she smacked her face into a stalactite, earning a small round of laughs from the gang again.

She gave a humph of contempt as she stepped down further into the cave.

The others came up to the edge of a drop, watching as Cera left.

"Cera?" Ducky called.

"Cera, come back!" Littlefoot yelled yet to no avail as the threehorn went away.

Serene went to climb down after her, the Guardian had a hard look on her face, unreadable but... perhaps conflicted?

Rooter stayed behind, preferring to trail the others then to follow her.

Whatever she was doing or going to say to the young threehorn he wanted no part of.

A brilliant waterfall filled the cave with a calming sound, Cera went close to it and settled down just in front of it.

Serene was walking so slow she could hardly keep up with her, yet she didn't want to, feeling as if she could understand her own feelings if she stalled long enough. She didn't know what to feel. She didn't know what to make of all this.

Was she angry at Cera, yes but yet it was more like disappointment.

She was disappointed in Cera.

Sooner than she wanted Serene caught up to her, staring down at Cera with a stern

disapproving stare.

Cera had quite literally been the death of everyone.

She had led them to their deaths.

And even Cera's own.

The image of her son's blood trailing down her horn, hit her.

Over the roar of the waterfall she heard Cera sobbing.

Serene paused.

Cera buried her face into her foreleg as she weeped.

Serene gave a long drawn out sigh, turning away. She paused for a moment before starting to walk back where she came.

She needs time alone.

And I need some time to think…

She stopped once again to look back at Cera for a moment before letting out a hollow sigh. She closed her eyes, her expression became pained then she turned and left to go find where the others went.

Several Years Later…

"Mother, is this all there is to eat?" Littletooth asked, "Why can't I have what you eat?"

His attempts at chewing this horribly hard twig halted under His Mother's horrified expression, he regretted asking that.

His Mother's face softened as she explained, "It's because you're a longneck my dear. Longnecks can become quite sick if they ate what I ate. You don't want to get sick, do you my dear Littletooth?"

He shook his head, "Nuh-uh."

She sighed, "I'm sorry, my dear. The land has been changing. That is why we must walk as far as we can each day, until we reach the Great Valley.

Littletooth when back to chewing on the twig only to be interrupted once again, not that he wanted to eat this thing anyway.

"Littletooth, quickly, come here!"

Doing as he was told, he followed the sound of her voice coming up to a clearing of dead trees.

"Look, up there!" His Mother reached up, his eyes following her movements, something green and luscious at the top of the trees meet his sight, "A treestar. It is very special."

She bit one of the branches and pulled it down with her weight, until it was low enough for her to pluck the treestar with her claws. She let it fall from her grasp, only to glide softly down to Littletooth who was giggling.

"A treestar…" He said in awe, nuzzing against it.

His mother chuckled, "It is very special. And it will help you grow strong."

Littletooth kicked it into the air, watching as it slowly floated back down to earth.

"Where we are going there are so many of these leaves."

The treestar fell onto his head, and he gave a big sniff of it before he blew it off and took a lick of the moist leaf.

"Come along."

Littletooth grabbed his treestar and caught up to his mother who was starting to move forward.

"The Great Valley is filled with green food like this, more than you could ever eat and more fresh cool water then you could ever drink.

It is a wonderful, beautiful place, where you could live happily with many more of your own kind."

"Gee," Littletooth said, "When will we get there?"

"The bright circle must pass over us many times, and we must follow it each day to where it touches the ground"

A worry overcame him and after he threw his treestar onto his back he asked. "Have you ever seen the Great Valley?"

His mother paused, a silence filled the air as she slowly turned to face him, her face held sincerity yet dismay all the same. "No…"

"Well," Littletooth walked up to her, "How do you know it's really there?"

Her gaze softened. "Some things you see with your eyes, others you see with your heart."

Littletooth sighed, "I don't understand, Mother…"

She chuckled, then nuzzled him, "You will my son, you will."

After she pulled away, he took another big whiff of his treestar and prepared to eat it as he licked his lips. He went to take a bite but froze when he heard laughter in the distance, he decided to investigate.

"Littletooth, don't you wander too far," His mother warned.

I won't, he thought as he peeked his head through the grass. The second he did however, a sickly sweet smell made him wince and scrunch his nose up in disgust. The smell was rotten, similar to spoiled food Mother had to eat sometimes, and very much unlike the pungent smell of fresh blood.

He gazed around curious to its source. There were two Threehorns not too far away from his location. One was small and orange, the other was grey and big. Clear parent and child duo. She headbutted into her dad with her little frill and horns accomplishing nothing but confusion for him.

Littletooth squinted, studying Mr Threehorn, on his right back leg was a wound. He couldn't inspect it very well from this far away but the wound looked very angry and painful, it didn't seem like he wanted to put any weight on it either.

Littletooth felt sorry for him, it must be hard to keep himself up, he wondered if it was broken?

Though there was nothing he could really do to help him, so he looked to the smaller one. She had her eyes on a small blue crawler sitting on a rock in front of her. She kicked at the ground ready to charge at it.

Littletooth watched in wonder as she charged at the crawler with a battle cry, only for it to fly away, she bashed through a small boulder with ease, and finally crashed into another one which didn't not crumble despite the heavy impact. The crawler landed on another rock, and it flew off yet again as she crashed into that rock. Then she bashed into a very hard rock which stopped her in her tracks, the crawler landing on it right in front of her.

She breathed, baring her teeth in a grin as the crawler buzzed and turned around, clearly annoyed at her attempts to hunt it. She licked her lips, opened her maw wide and suddenly the crawler sprayed her with some stinky fluid and flew off.

Littletooth broke into laughter.

"What are you laughing at!"

Littletooth gasped. The horned girl kicked the ground ready to charge. Accepting the challenge, he jumped out of the grass and mimicked her kicks kneeling down into a pre pounce position.

Then they both charged with a battle cry.

Over their cries he could barely hear some other roars and snarls, followed by heavy footsteps, and the next thing he knew he was firmly pressed against the ground, pinned underneath a large grey foot. The ground was rough and painful and if he was pressed any tighter he would not be able to breathe.

Littletooth squirmed in panic as Mr Threehorn's snarling face came close to him. Too close.

"What do you think you're doing…?" Mr Threehorn boomed into his ear, any wrong answer would spell a crushing death for the young longneck.

"I-I," He stuttered, fear making it hard to speak, "We- We were only playing! I-I-I just W-Wanted a friend…"

Mr Threehorn gave a low growl, Littletooth shuddered, squeezing his eyes shut.

"Let go of my son now!"

"Mother!?" Littletooth squeaked.

Mr Threehorn's expression shifted into confusion then into frightful concern as he looked up, his face paling slightly. His daughter screamed, scrambling to hide under him as a large blue sharptooth thundered towards them.

"The longneck," Littletooth's Mother demanded, "Release him. Now…"

There was a pause as it seemed Mr Threehorn was completely shocked at this turn of events.

"I don't know how your both smart enough to speak leaf eater and dumb enough to think this flathead is your son, but what I do know is that I don't barter with sharpteeth!" He said lowly.

His Mother snarled, "Look threehorn, I've nothing to do with you or your offspring, only mine. Don't make this personal."

Mr Threehorn said nothing, and it only infuriated her further as she took a step closer.

"If you kill him, I have no reason not to retaliate, even if it means we'll both die, and you're wounded," She stated calmly, nudging her head towards his injured leg.

Mr Threehorn took a sharp inhale of breath.

"Let him go and I won't bother either of you, or your herd."

"Yeah, right," He muttered under his breath.

Littletooth's Mother stared at him, as if she was staring into his soul. "I sware on my life. I sware on a blood promise."

Mr Threehorn grumbled to himself, and did not answer her.

She huffed, entirely tired of his nonsense. "Y'know there is a fine line between bravery and foolishness, what side are you on, threehorn?"

Another pause before finally, finally Mr Threehorn conceded, after realising everything was not in his favor at all. He begrudgingly compiled and lifted his foot off of Littletooth. Littletooth's relief at being free was short-lived as he felt the large impact of Mr Threehorn kicking him.

Littletooth yelped as he tumbled head over heels, eventually rolling to a stop. He laid on his back in a daze. He was more disoriented and scared then hurt however.

"Come, Cera," he heard Mr Threehorn say to his daughter, "Threehorns never play with Sharpteeth!"

"Threehorns never play with Sharpteeth!" Cera repeated from under her dad, too afraid to get any closer.

Littletooth got to his feet, running towards his mother, throwing himself onto her snout as it came down to him and climbed up like his life depended on it.

Both parents backed away slowly with their kids, both eyes never leaving each other till they were way out of either's sights.

Her breaths came in pants, nerves a mess as she shook as her adrenaline slowly wore off. As her mind came back to normal, worried anger flashed in her mind, a deep sigh left her as it took everything she had not to snap at her child.

"Littletooth, you can't just mess with others like that. I... might not be able to rescue you next time."

Her son only responded in sobs.

Instantly concern filled her, kicking anger out of her mind completely, is he hurt worse than she thought?! "Are you alright, Littletooth?"

"Why is he being so mean?" He choked out, sniffing, "We were only playing...I wasn't gonna hurt her…"

Serene sighed. "He didn't know that, Littletooth. The herds can be quite aggressive with each other, especially concerning their own children. They never get along with others."

"But you're a sharptooth...and I'm a longneck...and we get along great."

Serene paused, surprised at the insight her son had. On second thought, he did have a point. It took her a while to find her answer."...Some individuals will never get along, and sometimes you can't change that, in that case you can only keep your distance from them."

"I will, Mother," He sniffed, "I'm sorry."

Serene sighed again and frowned.

"It's alright, my son, I just want you to be more careful out here."

Littletooth hummed in agreement, wiping his eyes with his foreleg.

Serene stared at the rows of dead and decaying trees that stretched out for miles, they still had a long way ahead of them.

"Hey, Mother?"

"Yes, Littletooth?"

"What's a blood promise?"

Serene stopped in her tracks.

"Is it like a normal promise?" Littletooth asked.

"Yes, but a stronger one. One you should not take lightly, my dear. A sharptooth will never break a blood promise, if they make one they will keep their word... even at the cost of their own life."

"Oh," Littletooth said, "So this means you can't eat threehorn, even if you're starving?"

Serene almost stumbled at the question. "Oh, I- Yes." Then she muttered under her breath "I never really liked the taste of threehorn anyway."

Littletooth chuckled at that, and Serene only felt like a bad influence.

"I just wish we were at the Great Valley now, though. There has to be some other longnecks I can play with…"

"Well, it's a long way yet," She began walking down a trail that led through the trees, "Pass The Great Rock That Looks Like A Longneck and pass The Mountains That Burn...Still a long way.

But we'll get there…"

For some reason, I really love Topsy, even as a kid I never hated him. He does have his flaws, some of which I have to condemn, but I love him all the same.

Err, I was gonna write something about him, as he's quite interesting in my Littletooth AU, but I didn't feel up to it this month.  :opetrie

Buuuut I finished this today, yeah it has something to do with the AU as well.  :ToppsGrumpy

Of One Amongst Sharpteeth

Book One: Chapter One

Dark clouds blocked out the bright circle’s light, casting a moody shadow over the marsh as a casendo of sky water crashed onto it’s residence.

It was as if the world itself was grieving with her.

A sharptooth, blue as a calm lake, lay curled around her nest, tired violet eyes stung with tears as she stared at where her children would’ve been. The eggs have long since gone cold, shells shattered from the elements as if they had been too weak to withstand life since the start.

You are unworthy to produce an heir to me, Serene… Begone from my territory!

A weary drawn out sigh left her lips.

She’s done.

She doesn't want to try again,

That’s it, no more.

Just like that she lost the hope of ever continuing her lineage.

She nudged one of her eggs with her snout, it fell over and crumbled, nothing inside. She sighed again listless.

Why couldn’t one of them have survived?

One is all I asked for.

Just one.

The rain lightened, and the clouds started to part, as if the ancestors themselves heard her prayer. She looked up to the sky as a beam of light streamed down into the trees. In a haze, Serene stood and approached the light, feeling as if she was in a sleep story.

She made her way through the trees, pushing a branch out of the way with her claws, she found herself in a clearing.

The light illuminated an abandoned nest, a couple of eggs laid smashed and ruined much like hers. She moved them away, freezing when she saw it. A healthy unmarked egg almost glittered as the light reflected across its surface. She pressed her snout against it.

Warm.

Alive.

She let out a gentle rumble.

A moment later, she got a response, from the confines of the egg a muffled squeak answered her.

A giddy joy filled her heart, her lips stretching into a wide smile, her thoughts were of thanking the ancestors for giving her a child.

Gently, she scooped up the egg in her maw, the egg laying safely behind rows of sharp teeth and against her tongue, she then made her way back to her nest in the marsh.

Serene did not know what the egg contained. It could be anything, a sharptooth, a longsnout, fast biter...it could even be something other than a sharptooth, it could be a leaf eater as well.

She grimaced, wondering if she would be able to take care of whatever it was.

Fortunately, she wouldn't have to wait very long to find out anyway, going by the chirps the egg gave her it was really close to hatching, perhaps in a few days time?

The sound of mud being sloshed through broke her out of her thoughts, then she saw an Eggstealer with its dirty hands on her egg. With a flash of fury, she snapped at them.

The Eggstealer was not fast enough to avoid her, its struggles dying immediately under the crushing weight of her jaw.

The egg flew out of their hands, landing and tumbling down the ribs of a swimmer skeleton and out of sight.

Serene tossed the Eggstealer’s lifeless body to the ground, getting to her feet to follow where her egg had gone.

She came up to a small river, just in time to see her egg tumble off a waterfall and land onto a dirt bank. The egg now sported many horrible looking cracks, she feared the worst.

Then the top broke off, and not a moment later another piece chipped off as a small brown tail peeked through the top.

Serene let out a big sigh, it was only hatching, any fear she felt now turned into anxiety as she waited to see what dinosaur it was.

What is it?

What is in my egg?

What is it?

A leg popped out breaking one side of the shell, then the other leg came out breaking the other side as well. Then the rest of the egg fell away, revealing a dinosaur who did a small tumble and landed on his haunches.

He was brown and so little compared to Serene, his body was egg shaped with four strong legs to support his weight, he had a long neck and tail.

A longneck.

Serene hummed with interest, chuckling as the longneck hatching fell back as he just noticed the sharptooth towering over him. He moved and covered his eyes with his little forelegs. She dragged her tongue across his back, trying to clean the leftover hatching fluid from him.

He got up and moved back to try and get away, but she took another long lick on his back, and then he decided he really enjoyed this attention, a big smile coming to his face.

She licked him a few more times, finishing off the last of the fluid and knocking him over, not that he minded. He gave her a lick back when her snout came close enough.

She nuzzled him and he grabbed onto her snout to nuzzle her back.

From this angle so close up to her adopted son she saw something that made her grimace. A broken jagged tooth jutted out from his lip, it almost looked like a little fang even.

“A littletooth?” She murmured, feeling sorry for the little guy. How did that even happen to him?

Her son chirped at her.

Serene stared at him, in confusement before she realized. “Is that your name little one?” Truth be told she had not thought of any names for a longneck.

Her son only squeaked and snuggled her snout in response.

“Littletooth it is then.”

She gently lifted him onto her back, letting him slide into the scruff on her neck.

“Now, you be careful, my Littletooth,” Serene said.

Littletooth only gave a long yawn in response, looking up at his mother’s face before yawning again. He snuggled into her scruff, curling into a little ball as he fell into a gentle slumber.

Serene sighed, getting to her feet and going back to her nest. After sitting down she spotted the Eggstealer carcass she dropped unceremoniously to the ground earlier, she scooped it up into her maw and began slowly munching on it, quickly becoming lost in her thoughts.

How was she going to take care of a longneck?

She had babysat others in her childhood pack before, but they were sharpteeth who ate meat, not like a leaf eater at all.

What could she do?

She shook her head.

No.

She could make this work.

She looked back at her son still gently snoozing in her scuff, beautiful sweet Littletooth.

She would make this work.

A/N: Hoi it's been some time since my last fic, and it's sigh... rewriting LBT 1 again. :spikenotamused

But... things are quite different here.

One night I had the thought, what if Littlefoot's Mom was a sharptooth? And what if she adopted him? How different would he grow to be? I've kinda fallen in love with this AU Littlefoot, he's a bit different in many ways as you'll see in future updates.

How did he get those scars? Well, you'll just have to wait and see...  :thudLOL

Oh, and by the way I drew that and the BG is a pic from Pixabay.

Does anyone else have issues with writing her character? I think I'm doing good at keeping her in character, at least I hope so, but I always have that worry. I see her as this spiritual motherly guardian, nice and kind but does not take crap from anyone.

I wonder how others see her? Is there any strange quirks that just kinda happen when you write her? Everyone has a way of writing certain characters, what's your version of Littlefoot's Mother?

I've noticed my writing is different when writing her, I always use the word Yet a lot, and she always seems to follow her instincts more than anyone I've written for before. Also she's been kind of snippy these last few chapters, but I mostly blame that on stress, seeing your kids hit a dead end literally will do that to you.

To answer your first question I can't remember my first reaction to her dying. In fact I don't remember crying at all during that scene. And as for the second question, it should be brought up again in future LBT content absolutely.

:exactly Heck, I have the same problem as well, I can't remember it or crying either. It takes a lot to make me cry sometimes so...

I have to agree with @Nanotyrannus here. I think word has gotten around and they would much see them as a myth or a scary story much like the hidden runner.

As for The LBT1 Sharptooth, I firmly believe that he was guilty as well. No one can convince me he was not trying to get revenge on the gang, most likely for Littlefoot ruining his eye but I can totally see this as petty as he didn't want to let a bunch of nambi pambi children outsmart him. Honestly, I don't think the gang would have curbed his hunger very much either. Both are in the wrong here, but I can't see Sharptooth getting into the valley as a good thing either. The grown-ups would've just killed him as well, though it would be less risky than the kids doing it themselves.

You must excuse me as I have not seen 13 before, I will watch it at some point but not at the moment.

Though I'm very certain now that this topic will come up in Vale Guardian, I don't know how or when but it's happening.

Also I might write a thing about this topic soon or not whos to say.

YAAAY! AT LAST!  :)littlefootI enjoyed seeing Serene's thoughts on the events of the movie. It is also interesting to see more of her powers. X) I wonder if Rooter will play an important role later?  :FoobieOooooo

@Goldenwind Rooter is one of the main characters in this series so you'll see a lot more of him later, you'll see him in the next chapter as well. He'll have to teach Serene a certain ability in the next chapter.

15
@Sneak  Sharptotoh Hehehe how does that even happen?  :PAli

Word Count: 5,686 Words. 31,473 Characters.

Story Word Count: 12,971 Words. 71,462 Characters.

The Great Divide had parted the dusty hard ground creating a makeshift canyon that stretched on for miles on end. Serene had been too concerned about other things to see how catastrophic the earthshake had been, but now as her and her son traveled alongside it she saw the complete extent of the damage.

Apart from the howling wind, it was eerily silent.

Over the edge led to a sharp drop, leading down into the dark depths where light couldn't reach. One single look at it gave her a fright she hadn't felt since she was a child. It was like she stepped into some kind of burial grounds, and knowing what she knew it technically was.

Was there anywhere to cross over? She thought, craning her neck to look around, with a rounding sigh she conceded.

Perhaps not.

“Cera!” Littlefoot chirped, breaking her train of thought as he ran ahead of her.

It did not take more than a normal walk to keep up with him. She looked ahead of her son to the one he was running to.

A young orange Threehorn stood at the edge of the divide looking down into it. Serene recognized her as the same one she had saved earlier, she was alone and without a guardian of any kind.

Serene must admit she didn't know what had happened to her after they parted ways that day but she reasoned that Cera had attempted to get back to her family. She was stuck on the wrong side of the divide just like they were.

“Cera, Hello!” Littlefoot greeted, happy to see her again. Serene admitted it was a change of pace to see another dinosaur alive.

“What do you want?” She spat.

Of course, that didn't mean that Cera was happy to see him.

“Nothing,” He chuckled, “Where are you going?”

“I'm going to find my own kind. They're on the other side.”

“I’ve looked around this side of the chasm. You can't climb up the other side.”

“Maybe you can’t,” Cera said, then she stepped down onto a slope that led into the chasm. The ground there was dusty and covered in loose rock, it did not look like it would give much traction or make for good footing.

“I'm going to the Great Valley. Maybe, we could... help each other!” Littlefoot had a hopeful, almost excited even, expression.

“A Three-horn-” Cera grunted, toe claws digging into the gravel as she struggled to climb down. “does not need help from a Long-neck-” Cera gave a kick, sending a cloud of dust right into Littlefoot’s face, however that action had caused her to lose her footing and with a gasp, Cera slipped down the slope screaming all the way.

On instinct, Serene reached out and tried to grab her by the scruff only for her teeth to faze right through her.

Serene cringed, sucking a sharp breath through her teeth. She lowered her head into the chasm, Cera was laying flat on her belly at the bottom. She pushed herself up to her haunches, her lip trembled and her face scrunched up in upset. Serene frowned, looking at the Threehorn from different angles, searching for any maladies. She was a little dirty from sliding down here but otherwise, she looked fine, she's just shaken up is all.

“W-well, at least we wouldn't be alone,” Littlefoot called from above.

“Well,” Cera sniffed, bitting it back any tears before they could form, “when l find my sisters, l won't BE alone. So, go away.”

Then she turned and went deeper into the chasm, muttering to herself.

“Three-horns can be very dangerous.

They only talk with other three-horns,

and they only travel with other three-horns…”

As Cera's body and voice disappeared inside of the cavern, Serene’s throat felt tight, motherly instincts screaming with alarm. She was stuck in between a rock and a hard place. On one foot, someone should really look after Cera, sure she was rude but that was no cause for death, on the other foot...she could not leave Littlefoot alone either.

With a sigh, she lifted her head out of the cavern. Littlefoot had his head hung low. He grabbed his Treestar before dragging himself away, Serene slowly following him.

“Littlefoot…” Serene said, “It’s only for the best, the other kinds they... they keep to themselves...remember?”

Her unheard words were more to convince herself, she realized, a futile attempt to soothe her anxieties.

Cera was fine, she told herself, anything down there is long dead. There is nothing partially dangerous if she’s careful.

Serene tried her best to ignore that bad feeling in her gut about Cera, yet she couldn't ignore that something definitely felt off.

The pond was crisp and clean as fish swam too and fro below the surface. It was hypnotic, the rhythmic patterns they made would put anyone in a trance. Serene only absentmindedly stared at its depths, too deep in contemplation to notice the beauty of it.

Littlefoot’s reflection peered back at him with an emotionless stare as he laid at the pond's edge.

How long can this go on for?

Serene has seen this type of sadness before. This was the type of grief that some never recovered from. Some never moved again. It was as if they had died yet they still breathed... but never for very long. She feared a horrible fate would befall her son if this continued for too long.

It would be easier if-

She sighed.

Easier if.

If.

It would be easier if Littlefoot just forgot about her.

Serene lashed at the pool with her tail, expecting a great splash yet receiving nothing for her effort, this only fueled her rage further.

Damn it all.

Her anger was not directed at Littlefoot, heavens no not Littlefoot, she was angry at herself, the sharptooth, the earthshake that separated them all, the whole world itself!

Why?

Why did this have to happen?

Tell me why!?

She gave a sharp huff, crossing her forelegs as she looked away, she tried to let her anger fade but she found even that to be a useless endeavor.

What was the point even?

A splash. Quiet and small as it was, the sound of something exiting the water's surface was clear as day to her senses. Serene opened her eyes to see a young swimmer at the water's edge her big blue eyes staring curiously at her son.

“Hello,” She said, then after getting no answer from Littlefoot she repeated, “I said hello.

A tear rolled down Littlefoot’s face, The Swimmer momentarily frowned as she watched the tear trail off his face and land on the ground.

“What is your name?” She asked then she gasped, “Maybe you cannot talk yet. Huh? Huh?”

“Don’t you know anything?” Littlefoot said, his tone dismissive, “Long-necks don't talk to... uh... whatever you are.” He got up wanting to turn away yet The Swimmer hopped towards him.

“Me?” The Swimmer said, “I'm a long-neck, too. See?”

She stretched her neck out as long as it would go.

“And l have a long tail like you.”

She stretched out her tail as well. Serene stared at her with a confused smile, while Littlefoot gave her a knowing smirk.

“All right…” The Swimmer gave up, sitting down, “I'm not a long-neck. I’m a swimmer, but l am all alone, l am. l lost my family in the big earthshake.”

Littlefoot paused for a moment, “Um... you want to go with me?” He asked with hopeful excitement.

“Yeah!” The Swimmer shouted with a jump, then she quickly quieted herself. “Oh. Oh, yes, yes, yes! l do, l do!”

“All right. Come on…” Littlefoot leaped into the water, he looked back at her, “but you have to keep up.”

“l will keep up. l will.” She hummed, leaping across tree roots as she followed her new friend. “Where are we going?”

“To the Great Valley.” Littlefoot said. “ l won't stop until l find my grandparents.”

I wonder how mum and dad are doing...Serene mused. I hope they're alright. Then she left them behind when she saved her son and-

Ancestors… The last time they saw her alive was the night before her death.

The last thing she told them was good night…

She didn't even get to say goodbye.

Serene gave a heavy sigh, closing her eyes in a pained expression.

“Do you think my family went to the Great Valley, too?”

The Swimmer’s voice brought her back to reality, and Serene reasoned that maybe she should focus on them for now.

Yes...that sounded good.

“Maybe,” Littlefoot said, stepping up onto dry land again, “My mother said it's where all the herds were going.”

Serene hummed.

“Oh, l hope. l hope.”

“My name's Littlefoot.” He said over his shoulder.

“Mine is Ducky. Yep, that's what it is.”

Serene smiled, what a cute name.

Ducky started to hum as they walked on, hum shifting into some sort of song of doots and deets as they bopped up and down, hoping across the dry cracked ground.

What are you two doing? Serene mused watching them with a gentle smile.

“Don't step on a crack, or you'll fall and break your back,” Ducky landed both laughing at the silly game they just partook in.”

Then a loud gurgle filled the air.

Ducky chuckled, “My stomach is talking.”

“Mine too,” Littlefoot agreed, he looked up at a big leaf hanging just in reach, “Hmm. l wonder what this tastes like.”

Like ash and skyfire.

Dry and burnt tasting.

Littlefoot took a bite, trying to pull it down.

Then the fern gave a startled scream.

Serene flinched.

What in the world?

“The tree is talking,” Ducky said.

“No, it issont,” Littlefoot said, his voice muffled due to the leaf stuffed in his mouth.

“You should not eat talking trees. Nope, nope, nope.”

Serene got a closer look trying to see what was making that sound, then with a mighty tug from Littlefoot, a small creature came tumbling down the leaf, landing right on his snout.

Littlefoot let go with a scream, the leaf smacking back sending the small creature flying back and crashing through the crumbling dry ground, Ducky screamed and hid underneath Littlefoot for safety.

Serene stepped over to the ground that the creature smashed through, there was a small cave-like area below it fell into, she gazed into it seeing two wide terrified eyes staring back up at her.

Ducky looked into the cave as well, “Who are you? Huh?”

“M-my name Petrie,” The Creature stuttered.

Ducky giggled, “Petrie, huh? Funny name.” She backed up letting the creature come into the light and that is when Serene saw what he was.

He was a young flyer.

There's a lot of children running around by themselves, Serene grimaced.

“Uh, l--l flied?” Petrie said hopefully.

“No,” Ducky frowned, “You falled.”

“l falled?” Petrie fell to the ground dramatically, chattering excessively to himself in frustration.

“You cannot fly?” Ducky pointed to the fern he was on earlier, “Then how did you get up there?”

“l climb.” Petrie hopped in the air mimicking a climbing movement.

“But you're a flier, not a faller.” Littlefoot said.

“Hard thing to fly,” Petrie groaned, pouting.

“l guess it is,” Littlefoot said.

“We can't do it. Nope, we cannot,” Ducky added.

Serene gave a sigh, rolling her eyes with a smile.

Guess we’ll have to take him with us as well.

...

How many has it been? Rooter has long since lost count. The death toll seemed much like this cavern, long, terrifying, and seemingly never-ending.

Perhaps he had gotten lost?

That could be true, however, he wasn't looking to leave just yet anyway.

There was no need to rush, this job did not require speed, he could just take things at his own pace for the most part.

Light cascaded across the cavern, revealing the body of a large Sharptooth lying limply across the rocks. Rooter recognized this one immediately.

“Seems you’ve finally met your end, Red Eye,” Rooter said, “Was it worth it?”

A sound filled the air as if contradicting his statement. It was subtle but Rooter heard it all the same, it sounded like an intake of breath, and he took a step back foot hanging in mid-air, disbelief filling his features.

“You’re... You’re not actually dead are you?” He put his fore-leg back on the ground giving a sigh, “No...no your not.”

He heard the sound of a yelp then skidding and before Rooter could turn around he felt a weird sensation but a familiar one, someone had passed through him. He was rather lucky he was incorporeal right now otherwise a blow like that could’ve hurt whoever was going at that speed.

An orange Threehorn rolled to a stop not too far from him.

Rooter sighed. What is Cera doing here?

He’s not a babysitter.

Where was the Vale Guardian when you needed him?

He grunted.

Ugh...He forgot.

The light shined on Red Eye’s sleeping form again, Cera gave a shriek, the sound causing rocks to break off from the ceiling, and ran away.

Rooter covered his ears with his forelegs, sneering with a bark, “You’re going to cause a cave-in if you keep doing that!”

Cera slowly peeked from being a rock, shaking like a leaf, she slowly stepped forward eyeing up the Sharptooth. After seeing that Red Eye was unresponsive, Cera’s face turned into a naughty smirk and she hummed slinking forward.

Rooter watched her approach with a raised brow, “What are you up to, kid?”

Cera stared up at Red Eye’s head, pausing for a moment.

You’re not going to-

Cera stuck out her tongue at him and rammed his snout.

Of course, you are... Of course, you're going to do that.

Then she rammed him again, then a third time, the fourth time she bounced off his snout and ran some distance away. She stopped and turned, kicking at the ground in preparation for a charge.

Rooter simply stepped out of the way and shook his head, he thought of the many ways this wasn't going to end well. And as Cera charged, he counted in his mind.

The Sharptooth's eye snapped open, pupil shrinking upon seeing the small Threehorn in front of it.

Cera skidded to a stop with a scream, after finally kicking enough to gain traction she turned and ran in the opposite direction as fast as her little legs could carry her.

“That serves you right!” Rooter shouted after her retreating form, “Go on, get!”

He held no concern for her at this moment, she’ll be alright with that head start she got. Rooter stood sighing and shaking his head disapprovingly as he watched Red Eye push himself up to his feet.

This will never end at this rate.

...

Serene kept herself at the front of the pack, keeping vigilant for dangers. She sucked in a sharp breath through clenched teeth. She tapped Littlefoot with her tail in warning.

A low dangerous snarl filled the air.

“Quiet,” Littlefoot shushed his friends, “Stay low.”

All three crouched behind a big tree root, a large Sailback stepped into view revealing its sharp teeth with a snarl. It gave a flick of its tongue tasting the air, the smell of the swamp air masked any scent of the gang so it passed by looking for its next meal elsewhere.

Serene didn't let her guard down till it roamed out of sight.

She gave a sigh of relief.

It’s gone. We’re safe now-

A distant roar met her ears.

Ah...I guess spoke too soon.

The sound was strange, even the gang paused in their tracks when they heard, it almost sounded like...like it was from underground?

Serene’s face scrunched up in bemusement.

What made that sound?

Littlefoot shook it off and moved on.

Petrie hopped up on his tail and scurried up his back, neck and onto his head hiding under the soft Treestar, Petrie sighed in contentment.

“Oww,” Littlefoot growled, “Petrie, get off!”

Petrie peeked out of the Treestar, laying in a lazy pose, “You got nice flat-head. Flat-head,” He giggled.

Serene rolled her eyes.

Littlefoot cleared his throat. “My name is not flat-head. My Name. Is. Littlefoot.”

Petrie gasped, “Littlefoot!?” then he wrapped the Treestar around himself like a blanket.

“Are you just gonna stay up there?”

Petrie gave a huff as he tried to flatten the Treestar against Littlefoot’s head. “...Yes!”

“Well, you can’t!” Littlefoot tried to shake him off, ”You’re tearing my Treestar.”

Petrie gasped in horror.

“It is very special, very,” Ducky, who was rocking on the ground, explained. She got to her feet and looked up at them. “His mother gave it to him...She did.”

“Oooooo,” Petrie moaned in awe, picking up the Treestar and nodding. “Mother present. Very important. Oh yes. I keep safes. Don’t let nobodies touch.”

Then the flyer rolled up the Treestar and held it over his shoulder then he walked back and forth on Littlefoot’s head like he was patrolling a territory border.

“Yep, Petrie,” Ducky said, “You keep it safe. Yep yep yep!”

“Nope nope nope!” Littlefoot disagreed, “I’m not a carrier, get off!”

Littlefoot grabbed the rolled up Treestar in his mouth and started to walk.

“You're a flyer, now. Start. Flying!” Littlefoot said as he started to pick up the pace.

“Open your wings, Petrie!” Ducky ran after them flapping her arms trying to be supportive “Open!”

Petrie made noises and pleaded to stop while trying to hold on for dear life as Littlefoot kept running. Ducky continued to give support and Littlefoot told him to open his skinny wings and that he could fly.

Serene walked after them. “Now, Knock it off you two,” She called after them.

“DANGERRRRRRR!” Petrie shrieked.

“Where?” Ducky, who was now on Littlefoot’s back, asked.

“Th-th-there! Ahead!”

Serene looked in front, spotting the skeleton of a long-dead dinosaur, but before anyone could think Littlefoot skidded on the mud and rammed his back into the skeleton's rib-cage. In panic Littlefoot ran as fast as his legs could carry him, all the while the skeleton still clung to his back.

“It’s just bones!” Serene called out to them, yet to no avail as he continued to run haphazardly. An unfamiliar scream filled her ears and she saw Cera running towards them as well.

Littlefoot hopped down a little hill and upon contact with the ground, the bones flung off of him and at Cera knocking her flat on her back.

There the Threehorn laid, trying to catch her breath.

“Cera! It’s you…” Littlefoot said just as out of breath as her as he approached, “What happened? Why are you so frightened.”

“Frightened? Me?” Cera asked smugly as she got up and went under Littlefoot with a laugh.

Cera’s smugness was definitely a front if Serene ever saw one. Something had happened to her after they separated. That roar from earlier...did that have something to do with her? Why was she so panicked?

Cera shot back, “Why are you so frightened?”

“We’re not frightened!” Littlefoot said, then he added to the others, “Are we?”

“Nope, nope!” Ducky chimed.

Cera slid back down and faced the others. “Well, you should be! I could be with the other Threehorns but I chose to come back to warn you…”

From what?

“I. Met.”

Cera hopped towards them.

“The Sharptooth!”

WHAT!?

Petrie gasped and scurried up to hold on to Littlefoot’s neck. “SHARPTOOTH!!!”

That’s...No, that’s not right.

“Come on Cera,” Littlefoot said more calmly than Serene could ever be at this moment in time, “The Sharptooth is dead. He fell down into the big underground.”

“And that’sssss. Where he met meee,” Cera said.

That’s a lie. She’s lying.

“Ohhh,” Duck was in awe, “Dear, brave Cera.”

She has to be lying.

“Dear, brave Cera,” Petrie repeated much to Littlefoot’s shock and annoyance.

Because if she isn't lying…

“Yes, I am brave,” Cera said smugly.

Then...

“Sharptooth is dead!” Littlefoot exclaimed.

“My father told me that flat-heads had very small brains,” Cera countered with a sneer.

Serene was thoroughly flustered, only barely comprehending the conversation. Her mind was in overdrive, fuzzy and dismayed, eyes darting around like a crazed animal.

Cera hopped on a log. “I was all alone with him in the dark…” She said, Petrie gave a whimper.

There was no possible reason that Monster could have survived the fall and yet she was so worried at that prospect of being wrong about it.

“Just the Sharptooth and me…”

Cera was obviously playing it up, but all lies at least had some truth to it.

Maybe she had found his corpse down below-

Something called in the distance, similar to the roar she heard some time ago.

-What was that!?

Everyone else seemed to ignore it, however.

Ducky hid under the piece of wood Cera was standing on. “I could hear him breathing,” Cera breathed heavily adding a little growl to it. Ducky yelped and hopped up top of the piece of wood, Cera approached her.

That roar from before, what if…What if that was him?

“I could see his one big ugly eye looking for meeee.”

Serene shook her head, she doubts it, nothing is making sense.

Ducky gasped, and Cera added another breathy growl. “What did you do? Huh, huh?”

Her head is aching.

Cera turned, “I walked right up to him-”

Serene closed her eyes trying to get a hold of herself. No need to panic. It’s fine.

“-I looked him straight in the eye… and said…

AURGH!!!” Cera roared pouncing on the end of the plank with all her might.

Ducky, who had the misfortune of being on the opposite end of the plank, was catapulted into the air with a yell.

DUCKY!?

Acting on instinct Serene lept after her, following where the young swimmer flew. She climbed up and over the edge of an opening, that opening had led to the outside where Ducky had landed not far from her.

Are you alright little one?

Ducky was a little shaken up but otherwise fine. Serene took a glance behind her, noticing the sharp decline she had just jumped up from, that was more a cliff-face how did she-

Loud snoring filled the air, breaking her out of her thoughts.

Littlefoot called Ducky's name yet both her and Serene were focusing on the snoring emanating from a tuft of grass.

Ducky entered the grass with a “Helloooo.”

Serene looked in from above, spotting a stark white undamaged egg; the source of the snoring. Ducky also discovered this after putting her ear up against it.

“Hello?” Ducky repeated.

The hatchling inside responded by bashing a crack on its shell, and not long after a green face with two lazy eyes peeked out at Ducky only to disappear back into the egg.

Serene chuckled, a typical child who doesn't want to get up in the morning.

“You should come out. You should,” Ducky climbed onto the egg, “You are late. Yes, you are. Yep yep yep.”

All she got in response was another snore.

After giving a glare, Ducky grabbed the loose part of the eggshell and tossed it off, looking into the egg’s interior herself.

“You are all alone,” Suddenly the green face emerged from the egg revealing a slightly beaky snout and the same lazy eyes staring back at Ducky, “Are you not scared?”

The newly hatched dinosaur gave a big yawn as their egg fell backward, they simply laid there with their tongue flopping out of their mouth.

“We’re going to the Great Valley,” Ducky said while removing the rest of the egg, “You can go with us. Yes, you can.”

With the last part of the egg on top of them gone, the hatchling’s little bumpy tail flopped down.

“Uhhh… You are a Spiketail so we will call you Spike.” Ducky stepped out of the grass with a giggle, Serene moved her head from the grass as well to give him room.

Spike then popped his head out the grass and the first thing he did in life was... to take a big bite of the grass, devouring roots and all. Then he took another bite, then another swallowing a mouthful down in seconds. Then he reared up and took another bite, he eyed the last two tufts, whipped around, and stuffed the last parts in his mouth and down his gullet.

He had eaten all of it in less than a minute.

My, what an appetite.

However, they had found another problem as the spiketail decided that his old hatching site was a good place to take a nap. There was no moving him now, and they certainly could not carry him.

Ducky stared at him wondering how to solve this predicament.

Littlefoot called for Ducky again.

Serene started to look around the area, humming.

Hmm, I wonder if there’s any sweet bubbles around.

Now that Serene thought of it, she had never seen such a group of dinosaurs traveling together in all her years.

A Longneck.

A Threehorn.

A Swimmer.

A Flyer.

And a Spiketail.

All heading towards a single goal. All heading to the Great Valley together.

Even though she had never seen this before, it felt right, as if everything is as it should be.

The group walked together, Spike being lured by Ducky with Sweet Bubbles, for a long while they walked till they all came across a small waterfall trailing into a small river below.

“Hmm...Treestars grow where there's lots of water,” Littlefoot mused his gaze following where the water flowed, he head lowered to get a better look, “If we followed this water…”

Petrie sniffed then climbed onto Littlefoot’s mussel, closely followed by Ducky. “Humph, no green foods here and I still hungry.”

“I’m still hungry tooooo,” Ducky moaned.

Littlefoot pulled his head back from under them, sending both falling into the small river.

Littlefoot paused and sniffed the air, “Can you smell something?”

Petrie sniffed while Ducky laid on top of his head.

“Sniff-Sniff- I- Sniff- I-Sniff-Sniff- I smell- Sniff-Sniff- I smell- Sniff-Sniff-Sniff- I smell…-Sniff- Hmm...Ducky.”

“You smell me?” Ducky giggled.

Serene rolled her eyes, sighing playfully.

"Come on you two."

Littlefoot and a yawning Spike stood at the precipice of a cliff where the water trailed down into.

“I smell water, I smell...“ Littlefoot said, giving a big sniff “Treestars!”

Serene gazed down into the land below and a wonderful sight met her eyes, a small bountiful amount of fresh trees lay at the bottom of their perch.

“Oh look, green food!” Ducky chimed.

“The Great Valley,” Cera cheered, “I found it!”

“Cera!” Littlefoot blurted, annoyed with her, “Stop it.”

Cera chuckled, “I found it.”

A low rumble filled the air, driving worry into everyone's hearts.

What was that?

Serene looked back over her shoulder, paling when she saw the source of the sound.

“Earthshake!” Littlefoot yelled, “We’ve got to get out of here!”

Oh, that’s not an earthshake Littlefoot…

“That way come on!” Littlefoot, Cera, and Petrie scrambled through the opening and tried to climb their way down the slope, leaving Spike and Ducky stuck behind.

“Spike, hurry up,” Ducky pleaded with him.

“Ducky, Spike! Get out of there!” Littlefoot called.

Ducky froze, staring in horror at the approaching danger.

Suddenly a herd of Longnecks bashed through the rocks and rushed down towards the trees below.

Serene stole a glance behind herself and when she was certain that the kids were alright she sprinted ahead of the Longneck herd. Somehow she beat them to the trees, she gazed around frantically as she tried to think of something.

She needed to save a tree, just one tree for them.

There she saw a small lonely tree, perhaps they would miss that one. Or perhaps she would have to make them miss that one.

Being a Vale Guardian gives you abilities that many do not possess.

She made a Treestar appear out of thin air and she could make a tree disappear as well...or maybe…

Serene curled herself around the small tree, and she focused on it deeply. Imagining that same tree only colored differently, a different tree altogether, she felt a heavy strain on her body and she grits her teeth trying to bear it. Even though she struggled she was still aware that the Longneck herd had now arrived and was quickly chewing through all that the trees had to offer.

One of them approached her tree to eat, only for them to flinch back in horror.

“Poison Bubble Tree!”

One of the other longnecks gasped.

Serene grinned under the strain.

Yes… she’s done it.

Thankfully, Serene did not have to endure this much longer as the longneck herd quickly finished off the other tree and set off elsewhere. When she was sure the last one left, she let go of her focus.

Her legs refused to hold her up any longer and she crashed to the ground, body feeling heavy as a rock.

She laid curled around the tree she saved, barely noticing how that the tree went back to its normal state, a stream of light streamed in from the opening of the leafless trees above, she laid her head on the ground, eyes slipping closed as she tried to catch her breath.

I just- I need to- I just need to...Rest…

The next time Serene opened her eyes she was met with the strangest sight. Littlefoot was standing on top of Spike, Ducky was standing on Littlefoot’s head and Petrie was held up by Ducky.

What in the world?

Did- Had- Had she passed out?

Possibly.

Serene still felt so weak at the moment, she could not do much else then watch as her kids tried to grab a bite to eat all the while Cera was crackling in laughter at the absurdity of the situation.

“You four look so ridiculous,” Cera said.

Petrie wobbled up top but still managed to claw at the leaves on top of the tree knocking them to float back down to the ground. Spike who was interested in the falling leaves started gobbling them up, and when he had a mouthful he backed away leaving Littlefoot to try to cling to the tree only to eventually fall back down on to Spike’s head.

“Ducky, Petrie, come down here we got green food!” Littlefoot called to the last two still clinging to a hanging branch at the top of the tree.

Ducky gave Petrie a big smooch on the cheek before letting herself fall down into the soft pile of leaves below.

Finally, the branch broke, sending Petrie falling down to the earth, the others called to him to open his wings and fly, yet he only opened them not giving a single flap and thus he only slowed his descent. Littlefoot gave a huff of breath to try and keep him up but to no avail as the flyer gently landed on the pile of leaves.

“I flyed?” Petrie asked, hopefully.

Ducky sighed, looking away.

“Oh...You’ll get it next time, Petrie,” Serene said breathlessly.

Littlefoot wandered to where Cera was. “Come on Cera, we’ve got green food!”

“I can get my own green food,” Cera said.

The Threehorn kicked the ground and rammed the tree in front of her. She butted it a few more times getting more and more frustrated with each hit.

Serene gazed up.

There's no leaves in that tree…

She gazed back to her son to see him grab a bunch of green food in his maw, waiting for her to charge again. When Cera hit the tree again Littlefoot tossed the food at her.

With a smirk, Cera took a big bite of her food. “See. I can take care of myself.”

Littlefoot gave a lighthearted sigh as he watched her move away.

“All by myself,” She said walking over to a small yet flat rock platform, “and I’m not afraid to be alone.”

The others started to finish their meals, barely paying attention to the boasting Threehorn girl.

“I know my way to go. And I’m not afraid of Sharptooth!” Cera laid down then she added, “I hope he doesn't eat any of you.”

“Don’t worry,” Littlefoot said to the others, “There isn't any Sharptooth.”

Scared, Ducky beckoned Spike to follow her.

Finding that she needed to find a better sleeping spot, with great difficulty Serene slowly got to her feet, she still felt heavy, she slowly approached the others.

Most of the gang snuggled up against Cera, while Littlefoot stood alone watching sadly, he sighed, “There isn't any Sharptooth…”

With his head hung low Littlefoot walked over to a large footprint in the long since dried mud, he crawled inside of the print and laid down face falling into that depressive gaze again.

Serene stared at him, oh my dear sweet Littlefoot…

However not very soon after, she heard the little pitter-patter of feet and saw Ducky jump into the footprint and walk up to Littlefoot to snuggle into his neck, a small smile on both of their faces.

Then Petrie walked to them as well and climbed on top of Littlefoot's head.

Then with a thump that shook the ground, Spike came to spoon against Littlefoot’s back.

Serene craned her head away to where Cera was shivering in her sleep. She woke with a startle, looking around as she wondered where the others went. After seeing them all in the footprint, Cera wrapped her fore-legs around herself as she shivered further, unsure if she should join them.

“You too little one, come along.” Serene waited for Cera to follow.

Both walked over to the foot-print, Cera climbing in to slide under Littlefoot’s belly, and Serene gently curled around the footprint. She gave one last look at the snuggling young ones then she rested her head on the soft ground, giving a long drawn out sigh as her eyes slipped closed.

And she rested in the company of Littlefoot and his friends, feeling safe and content for the first time in a long while under the night sky.

I don't know what to add here but I was just editing Vale Guardian and I came across this...

With a smirk, Cera took a big bite of her foot. “See. I can take care of myself.”  :cerasmug

Well, I can plainly see that you can not take care of yourself, Cera, as you are so inclined to nibble on your own toes.  :ceramad

I also remember laughing about misplacing My for Me and imagining the cast as pirates but I can't remember where that happened.

Hmm... Could I join? I was thinking of either being a dinosaur from Pterano's group that perished from the 7th movie or I could try out being Cera's mother or Petrie's father. I have so many ideas.  :littlefoot:)

@Goldenwind

Sure absolutely.   :^^spike

Hmm, the dino from Pterano's group has the tragic edge I enjoy reading about, though having a Mother/Parent kind of group has its perks heh. If I had to pick I would go with Dino from Pterano's group and Cera's mother although if you can handle it I'll probably give you all three maybe.

Prompt Idea: Draw the gang in an AU of your choice. Will you draw them as Space explorers? As dragons? Vampires? Dinosaurs living in Ancient Egypt? Who knows only you can know. Bonus points if you show how different the Great Valley looks in your AU.
