Howdy everyone!
After months of setting up and hard work, a few of us have completed a Gang of Five tribute to the Land Before Time, by remaking and singing our own version of "If We Hold On Together." Special thanks to Malte, Adam, Tobeysan, Littlefoot Fan, and Amethyst for singing with me! You guys were all awesome.
First of all, don't expect professional singing here! None of us can really sing, but we had a great time trying!
This is for LBT fans everywhere,
Enjoy!

If anyone has any questions on how we made this, feel free to ask away!

Lovely! :yes
Thanks a lot Tim! This is really awesome! You did a very good job when you put this together. I bet it must've been difficult for the different voices to to be adapted so the singing is simultaneous, in particular during the many-voiced refrains.
-
Because of a number of reasons, it wasn't always possible to blend voices together very well. Even so, this project certainly serves its purpose, to bring the LBT community closer. :yes

That was pretty damn good for as many different people as we had performing! :D Drinks all around.

As for me, that drink would be milk. It always is for me ;)

Hey, that was beautiful!
Now all I need to know is who sang what parts. :)
I think each of you are good enough to get past the first round of "American Idol."
How much further you would go, I could not say, as that is mainly up to the viewers of the show. :^.^:
Though then again, getting past the first round isn't easy. Especially with the harsh critic, Simon Cowell. (His choice words have made several people fear singing out loud ever again.)
Anyways, once again, it was beautiful.
I really do think the voices mixed together pretty well.
Well, see ya later. B)

^^Okay, so it basically goes like this:
Malte: Don't lose your way,
With each passing day,
You've come so far,
Don't throw it away,
Littlefoot Fan: Live believing,
Dreams are for weaving,
Wonders are waiting to start,
Malte/Amethyst: Live your story
Faith, hope and glory,
Hold to the truth in your heart,
Malte/Littlefoot Fan: If we hold on together,
I know our dreams
Will never die.
Dreams see us through
To forever,
Where clouds roll by,
For you, and I.
Action9000/Amethyst: Souls in the wind,
Must learn how to bend,
Seek out a star,
Hold on to the end,
Tobeysan/Action9000: Valley, mountain,
There is a fountain,
Washes our tears all away,
Tobeysan: Waves are swaying,
Someone is praying,
Please let us come home to stay,
Tobeysan/Action9000/Amethyst: If we hold on together,
I know our dreams
Will never die.
Dreams see us through
To forever,
Where clouds roll by
For you, and I.
Malte: When we are out there in the dark,
We'll dream about the Sun,
Adam: In the dark we'll feel the light,
Warm our hearts, everyone,
Amethyst/Action9000/Malte/Adam: If we hold on together,
I know our dreams
Will never die.
Dreams see us through
To forever,
Action9000: As high
As souls can fly,
Adam: The clouds roll by
Malte: For you and I...
Did I get that right? :)
If so, I never imagined you to hold that kind of voice, Malte. (Maybe a little deeper than what I heard.)
-
Yep, that's correct. And I thank you for writing that out in full. B)
Based on the punctuation, it looks like you copied/pasted from my lyrics page. :p

Whenever I pick up the phone I run the risk of being taken for my mother or being adressed as Mrs. Pattberg.
Actually my voice is not that high, but if I want to I can get it pretty high or deep.
-
I must say, I give the "Best Singer Award" to Malte for this performance! B)
Basically every note was perfectly in tune, and you sound great no matter what range you sing in. I can't believe that certain members of your family would beg you to stop singing! :p I'm sorry you may sound a tiny bit strange on our song. I applied some noise reduction effects to your recording to remove the "hissing" sound whenever you were singing. As a result, your voice was *slightly* distorted. I kept the level of noise reduction low enough to not change your voice much, but I know it was altered a tiny bit.
I applied a very small amount of reverberation (like an "Echo" effect, simulating singing in a closed space, with sound bouncing off walls) to each of our voices, to better balance them with the musical instruments, and fill out the sound.
-
Just wondering, how come I am not part of it? I am a pretty good singer when not nervious of course lol
I know when they finish the last set of voice overs for the series I believe but I can't tell since I promised Aria and her mum I wouldn't tell any short details about it. They didn't want anything going out from what they told me.

:P: You didn't apply when we were accepting people for this project, back in February. If you want to get in on the next one, for "No One Has To Be Alone", click and apply here: B)

I set up a permanent link to where the song can be downloaded, from now on:

I also changed the link on the first post in this topic.

Hey all!
I have completed an update to our Gang of Five version of "If We Hold On Together". I have tried some new mixing tricks to attempt to improve the sound quality. The previous version didn't have the vocals sitting very nicely with the rest of the music and I have been trying to figure out a way to improve the overall blend.
This is what I came up with to clean up the song a little bit. I think part of the problem is that we all used different microphones in different rooms, but I'm sure it will still be possible to get this to sound good with enough effort! B)
What did I change exactly?
1) I changed the dynamic compression on each of the vocal tracks to match them up more closely with each other, volume-wise.
2) I applied an "Expand Stereo" effect to each of the vocal tracks. This doesn't do anything to the vocal track by itself, since it is a mono recording. What this does do, however, is expand the stereo environment of the reverberation effect, also applied to the vocals. In other words, the vocals now fill up more physical space and seem to resonate more around the music as a whole, instead of from one central location.
3) I fine-tuned some of the volumes and reduced the overall volumes of the vocals, matching them more closely with the music. The goal is to make the vocals and the music sound like they're being played in the same room.
4) I bought some shiny new headphones (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRV600)for mixing on. These are from the Studio monitoring series by Sony, specifically designed for work like this, so hopefully with the help of these, this new version will sound a bit more cleaned up.
The thing is, music is very subjective. I'm sure some people will prefer the older version because the vocals were more pronounced and up-front. Now, they have been blended in with the rest of the music, creating a more homogenous sound at the sacrifice of the "studio mix" sharpness. This is what this song might sound like being performed on a large stage with the vocal mics set to a moderate level. The old version is more what it would sound like if the vocals were pasted on top of music and tweaked until they were really clear! :p
I personally prefer the more natural sound of this new version but it's all up to you! B)
Anywho, here's the updated version:
What do you guys think? Any comments are much appreciated! I'm trying to improve my mixing ability.

Well you all arn't as good as Diana Ross but you're pretty close! This is a lot better than any generic re-edition I heve heard. Great job!!!
