Does anybody else remember The Animals of Farthing Wood?

I actually discovered it in fourth grade as the crummy American tape: Journey Home. Two years later, I found out it was a TV series.

Adder and Sinuous...win. I hate the foxes. They're all idiots. For reasons I am too sleepy to explain at the moment. ESPECIALLY Bold. Gah.

By the way, here's a message board: Farthingwood.net (http://z7.invisionfree.com/farthingwood/index.php)?

This show gave me nightmares. I'll never forget the dead baby mice, never.

A cartoon like this couldn't be made these days, the death count is... really, really high.

It's like the Watership Down of TV series, and it was damn good.

Having read the books as well as watched the TV-series I would say that this is one of the extremely rare cases where I consider the TV adaptation better even than the books. While they did leave out some parts in the TV-adaptation (many characters in particular) they did a much better job in giving characters more personal traits than was the case in the books where only some of the characters are really individual.
They also came up with some own characters for the second and third season in particular.
I liked the first season more than the second and the second more than the third but I didn't consider even the third one bad.
With regard to the dark elements in the story it is more reminiscent of the original Watership Down movie (though with very few exceptions not quite as graphic) and the same goes for the drawing still.
Certain movements of characters are "recycled" a bit too often in some different episodes, but that's a flaw which I don't think needs to be taken too seriously as it is more than smoothed out by good storytelling. They had some rather beautiful music too.

I used to love this series! I've always had a soft spot for animated shows with dark elements, and Farthing Wood is no exception. It may not have been the tamest kid's show around, but that's why I like it.

Thanks!

Now I might remember I was a member of that message board!
