What is the Troodon:

A Herbivore, Omnivore, or Carnivore?

It was originally thought to be a carnivore, but I believe the current theory was that it was omnivorous.

Huh, I didn't know the Hidden Runner was a Troodon. Learn something new every day!!

I used to think it was a carnivore, but I was told there's evidence of it being an omnivore by a very reliable source found at this very site!! *shifty eyes*

Allow me to answer this question by quoting a recent post of mine in which I discussed Troodon's diet:
Quote from: Pangaea,Dec 21 2010 on  01:00 AM
Anyway, my theory is that the filmmakers used Troodon as the basis for the rainbow faces, but made them less “sharptooth-like” by removing the sickle claws (which weren’t as prominent as those of their relatives, the dromaeosaurs, to begin with) and keeping the teeth non-visible most of the time. (There is at least one shot in which you can see a set of pointed teeth in the female rainbow face’s mouth.) Also, while Troodon is generally thought of as a carnivore, its teeth are serrated in a similar way to those of plant-eating dinosaurs, so it may have included some plant matter in its diet, so it’s not altogether implausible that they could coexist with leafeating dinosaurs in the LBT series.
By the way, there's never any indication given that the hidden runner is a Troodon. (As I indicated in my post, I believe the rainbow faces to be based on Troodon.) Although its eyes, nocturnal habits, and overall body shape are similar to, it appears to have no teeth, and only two digits on both its hands and feet. (No non-avian dinosaur is known to have two-toed feet.) Then again, allosaurs, raptors, and even domeheads in LBT have been depicted with two fingers (and, in the domeheads' case, two toes as well), so perhaps we can't rely on the number of digits. It could be based off an alverezsauróa family of fast-running, birdlike dinosaurs whose later members evolved reduced forelimbsóor it could be an entirely made-up dinosaur.

One more thing, JBJB1029: I'm not going to write your fanfiction(s) for you, or give my opinion on every single idea you come up with, but if you had any questions specifically about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life, you can just ask me about it, rather than continually posting new threads in which you ask a single question of the entire forum. (Frankly, I think a lot of people are getting tired of it.)

Pronounced "pan-JEE-uh". Spelled with three A's. Represented by a Lystrosaurus.

My understanding was that Troodon was primarily a carnivore (at least the actual troodon is). Large claws, binocular vision, sharp teeth . . . it's overall body plan is very similar to a velociraptor. It is also believed to be one of the most intelligent dinosaurs, certainly relative to it's size it had a VERY large brain.

Actually I heard that troodon's teeth more resemble an omnivore's or herbivore's than a pure carnivore's.

Dunno exactly what the hidden runner's species is, but IMO it's not a troodon.

Troodons are omnivores, btw. :p

According to LBT wiki, the Hidden Runner actually is a Troodon, but that may not be true.

i stand corrected    the teeth are omnivorous, thanks for this correction, i welcome constructive critisisms  :)  .

but i still stand by my analysis of Troodon as primarily a carnivore. the binocular vision and large 'sicle' claw on the second toe support this as does it's relativley close relationship to dromeosaurs such as velociraptor and deinonychus.

I regard troodon as an omnivore. Primary diet may have been meat (mostly insects and small animals), but I think it would have also dined on some plants, perhaps seeds, primitive fruit (if there were any), etc. As for how much of its diet may have been what, its diet may have been similar to a domestic dog's diet. A domestic dog is basically an omnivore that's still mostly specialized for meat. The diet may have been around 70-80% meat and the remaining plant material.

The binocular vision doesn't always indicate carnivore. Primates have the same thing and most of them don't eat meat.

Not sure what the sickle claw could have been for. It's smaller than a dromaeosaurid's (raptors). Maybe it was used in fights amongst each other, or for holding down small prey. The idea of sickle claws as killing weapons is being questioned, and some new ideas for their use, such as clinging to moving prey, has been considered.
