Saurus Rock: Member Hall of Fame / GOF Awards 2015 - Voting Status
« on: August 12, 2015, 06:57:16 AM »
Hey gang!

It's voting time again and as usual the voting status page is here to help you keep track of your votes (just wondering how may times I could get the word "vote" into one sentence...)

Just to recap, this is how it works. Firstly, you have to have cleared the following criteria:

1. You have a minimum post count of 100 posts.
2. You have been a member of the GOF for a minimum of 3 months
3. You have contributed to the GOF posts and threads within the last 3 months.

Got that covered? Wicked...moving on. Your name below will be highlighted in a particular colour depending on the number of posts you have made or if something requires your attention. Here's a key showing what each of the colours mean:

RED means you haven't cast any votes yet. So...get to it when you can.
YELLOW means one of two things. Either 1. you have not cast enough votes to receive any awards or 2. there is something that you may or may not have done that is preventing you from receiving any awards you might have coming. Sidenotes will go alongside these issues so you know exactly what is it you need to do to grant you rightful passage to your awards.
GREEN means you're in the clear. Your votes have been counted and all conditions have been met. Any winnings owed will be coming your way.
GREY/GRAY (spelling dependent on your current location in the world biggrin.gif ) indicates any other conditions or indications that lie outside of your voting status (E.g. if you wish to be removed from the voting list or have a particular circumstance that has been discussed with admin exempting you from standard rulings for voting). These will also be accompanied with sidenotes explaining the situation.

***Some extra things to be aware of!***

Updates
We are all busy people and from various countries of the world (one side sleeping whilst the other is awaking). That being said, updates will be time stamped as and when they occur. So if your status still reads RED when you know you have cast all votes, be patient and you'll find your status marked GREEN in no time.

Skipping Votes
Next...skipping votes. If you plan on skipping a vote for a particular category, please make sure you mention this IN YOUR POST!! when voting. I will NOT openly assume that just because you haven't nominated someone for a particular category that you are choosing to skip said category. If you are skipping a category, say that you are skipping that category. Otherwise, you may find that your status may not move off YELLOW despite you thinking that you have made all your nominations.

ALSO - please, please, PLEASE! DO NOT EDIT OLD POSTS!!! Editting old posts confuses the process. sad.gif If you make a mistake or need to make a correction, put it into a new post. Believe it or not, this is FAR more helpful than editting an old post. Still confused? Just take my word for it. If nothing else, you are doing me a favour and I thank you in advance! wink.gif

REMEMBER - you can only skip a maximum of TWO (2) votes and still remain eligible for an award. If you do skip two categories, you must vote in the Appreciated Member Award in order to remain eligible for your awards. You need a minimum grand total of 6 votes in order to receive awards. So that's either 6 out of 7 main category votes OR 5 main category PLUS a vote for the Appreciated Member category (when voting for the Appreciated Member opens).

OK guys! Thanks for getting through all that. Below is the status list for all listed members in this year's GOF Member Awards. Any issues please don't hesitate to get in touch with either myself or any other admin. Cheers and happy voting biggrin.gif

Starday Wishes / Happy Birthday Littlefoot1616

Hey guys!

Thanks a lot for all the birthday wishes and apologies for the slow reply. I was away from home for most of the half term holiday week so I didn't get a chance to respond. I hate using GoF on my phone coz everything's so small and it's a pain to navigate.

Still, thanks a million everyone. :D :DD

Just picked up Transistor as one of the PSN's free games this month... great... another 20+ hour RPG to work through atop the rest on the list.

Did finish Resident Evil HD with Jill though... so that was nice :D

Hey Chronicler!

Good to see ya again! Been a while! :D

I do intend to continue with BOSE 2 but at the moment, I'm having such a hard time with work that I just don't get the free time to continue writing. And the little free time I do have, I find myself wanting to do other things away from my PC...like play video games (logic much?! :oops).

I haven't given up on the story seeing as the next chapter has been half finished for months now. Funnily enough, I'm still getting notifications from ff.net telling me people are favouriting both my stories, which is heartening.

I will finish BOSE 2 and I'm really sorry to anyone who has been waiting for me to update it. But work hasn't been kind to my free time schedule. Once I can get a better work/home life balance, I will continue. Please bear with me. It's coming, I promise! It's flattering to know that some people out there still do care. :D

LBT Fanfiction / Preview from an upcoming fanfic
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:00:03 PM »
Took me a while but I finally got around to reading your snippet DH. Gotta say, not only does it dabble on a rather interesting concept of Littlefoot not fully accepting Bron's reasons for leaving him and his mother that day as he mentioned in LBT 10 but the characterisation of both Littlefoot and Mr Threehorn was crafted with immense care and attention. The banter and general back and forth between the two characters was subtle but meaningfully engaging. It was very interesting seeing Mr Threehorn in a slightly different light as the wise elder giving advice compared to the "bash now, question later", hard-headed approach to dealing with things. There's an interwoven backstory carefully hidden amongst Mr Threehorn's words that begs to be explored in greater detail but it was an excellent premise to help Littlefoot come to terms with his warring emotions.

Speaking of which, the pace of the little piece was brilliant with an equal balance of dialogue and expressive prose. I like how this is a case of "after the heat has died down" of Littlefoot finding Bron and now he's had some time to really think things through, he is not content with Bron's initial story and demands (in his own silent way) to know more about the cutting decision to leave his family when he did. A very interesting concept; one that adds depth to some already well sculpted characters.

A well scripted piece, wonderfully balanced and excellently paced. All with a nice follow up right at the end with Littlefoot heading off to find his grandparents (wanting to find out more no doubt). Nice job! :D

Nope! Never heard of it!

(Jeez! Has it been that long since I last looked at this thread?! Slightly embarrassing  :oops)

Good time to get back in the fray I suppose. Any questions gang? I'd be more than willing to answer! The Inquisitive Quadruped is back! :D :DD

Maybe once you started levelling up and gaining more skills it got easier but at the time, it was just winding me up and I wasn't enjoying my experience. And for me, if you're not enjoying your gaming experience, then it's not the game for you.

Gamers Zone / Wii U
« on: January 26, 2015, 05:51:12 PM »
Having seen the new title line ups for the Wii U, I am most definitely landing myself one sometime in the near future. Ninty are doing their usual spiel (no pun intended :p) for churning out their cash cows but, arguably, there is enough of a different between them and variety between the iterations to be fresh enough to warrant a purchase (I think anyway).

My hitlist so far is (and not limited to):

Mario Kart 8
Super Smash Bros
Hyrule Warriors
Bayonetta 2
Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker
Super Mario 3D World
Splattoon
The New Zelda (due this year apparently!)
New Star Fox

Granted, 3rd party is still a little slim, but at least Nintendo are embracing their own and making some excellent 1st party titles for it. I have no regrets landing my PS4 last summer, but I can't lie that the Wii U has definitely pulled my attention lately.

Ahh yes! I hear you and a few fellow GOF members have been banding together and playing old Civ 4. How'd the game go? Anyone win yet? Any major conquests? You'll have to keep us posted on the happenings :D

Anyway, as for my playings now, gone back on a bit of an RPG binge. Got a few on the go and bouncing between them including:

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix (who came up with that title? Seriously?!)
Child of Light
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls
Resident Evil HD (not an RPG but got enough length to it)

And my friend just got me back into Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn again. Figured if I'm forking out for a monthly subscription I may as well be playing it. :p

Gamers Zone / Critically acclaimed games that you don't like

Everyone's got that big title that they just don't agree with. Mine for year just past happened to be on the top of an awful lot of YouTubers' 10 Best games of 2014 list but for me it just didn't float my boat. That game was Shadow of Mordor.

Now let me explain before I get pelted! The game itself is not adherently bad. In fact, it is solid in its construct, excellent roaming and movement mechanics, the Nemesis system is a brilliant addition and the combat has that gross but satisfying gore fact to it... but there in lies my biggest gripe with SoM.

Whilst the combat is heavy hitting and flows very much like Batman: Arkham Asylum/City's multi-directional fighting mechanics, I just found every battle I was in a chore. The enemies swarmed you in droves and by the time you've dealt with one or two baddies, another flock of about 5 are already on their way to join the fray. On top of that, the enemies are damage sponges. You deliver blow after blow just praying that eventually they'll keel over but reinforcements have already piled in before you've dispatched even one of the lowly peons.

And the roaming bosses only add to the frustration I found. Because they had special attributes that could either be exploited or you had to avoid triggering, killing them was nigh on impossible with the hoard around you. The killing animation for defeating bosses just took far too long and before you could safely strike them out, someone would be ready to attack you from behind forcing you to counter their attack and thus interrupting you slaying your target. Who would, by then, have gotten up, recovered a portion of their health and started fighting again!

Because I found one of the major mechanics of the game such hard work to deal with and I ended up losing out under sheer number of enemies, I felt cheated and completely despised the idea of fighting knowing that I was just going to be swarmed in minutes. As I said, the game is structurally sound in its design, but the fighting mechanics just didn't do it for me. The first rage quit in a long time for me. I'm just glad I borrowed SoM from a friend rather than forking out full price for the damn thing.

As grand as it sounds, and I'm sure we'd all be grateful to see our dino gang return to our screens, I suppose we should be mindful of the format it may take. A new LBT announcement doesn't necessarily mean an LBT 14. Could be a new series of episodical adventures or a spin off perhaps (as long as they don't go pseudo-anime on us like everything else in animation these days...). Still, the prospect of a new LBT project does reignite some fires. :D

Gamers Zone / Alien: Isolation
« on: November 25, 2014, 05:06:16 PM »
Hey gang!

This is old news by now but I thought I'd just throw it out there. Has anyone played through, or at least attempted to play, Alien: Isolation? I've only just managed to finish the main campaign and I've got to say, it was a ride well worth taking. I did run a brief stream of me playing the now notorious "Medical Bay Area" of the game and much to the hilarity of the people watching, and guiding me with the odd tip or two when I got lost, I think it was enjoyed.

Given the general concensus of... that other Aliens game... I have to say this is a game that I found most enjoyable when it was punishing me for not thinking things through. The number of times I got NOM'd by the alien was embarrassing but the tension created by sulking around praying that this sodding thing won't suddenly 180 on you as you sneaking past the door it had just entered was palpable. And knowing that the alien was programmed to be "unpredictable" brought me NO comfort whatsoever! (I doubt it was meant to but still...). I have to say that this has been the first game in a long time that has genuinely snagged and withheld my attention unlike so many others that seem more like fleeting fancies. I wanna do some more streams on this, despite having finished the game, because I loved the creepy atmosphere and the tension the game created.

But, anyway, I ramble. Has anyone else had the gaul to give this one a go? Let's here your stories here...

The Fridge / Entire LBT collection for sale

Wow! That's a mighty fine collection he's got there and quite a few distinct pieces too. If it weren't for the fact that I don't have $2.2k to part with, I'd say I'm good with my little collection. Just the 13 movies and a couple of plushies. My Littlefoot goes everywhere with me. He's my roommate seeing as I'm now living on my own this year. (Is that weird? Someone might think that's weird... :oops)

Gamers Zone / Video Game Streaming
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:09:21 PM »
Well, I gave it a shot last night and tried a bit of streaming via my PS4. Didn't get that many viewers (think I had a max of about 6 people at one time) but those who jumped in and were commenting were of a good nature. I was playing Alien: Isolation and squealing like a pansy every time things got tense... which was pretty much the whole time. Started chatting with one Canadian guy about global events at one point all the while being hunted down by the bloody Xenomorph! Kinda akin to discussing cute puppy names during the blitzkrieg! Doubt me streaming will be a regular thing right now due to work constraints but I'd like to play around with it a bit more. I'll let you know next time I'm on Mumbling so you can catch the hilarity of me screaming like an infant whilst getting chased down.  :oops  :D

Gamers Zone / Video Game Streaming
« on: October 18, 2014, 08:06:05 AM »
Hey gamers!

It's nothing new but just figured I ask if anyone's big on things like E-sports, Live Streams, Let's Plays, Twitch TV, UStream etc.? I've only just been dabbling in and out of it recently but it seems rather entertaining.

I've signed up with Twitch.tv not too long ago and, in case you weren't aware, our very own Mumbling has her own Twitch Channel whereby you can watch live streams of the games she plays. I'm a particular fan of her Binding of Isaac videos (such a twisted game to watch but great fun to play). Look her up on Twitch under the name "claydoodles".

On that note, does anyone else do "Let's Play"s or Live Streaming? Since I've acquired my PS4, I've been watching others playing on the "Live on Playstation" Twitch and UStream. Particular hilarity to be had when people are playing creepy games like P.T and the recent releases of Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within watching grown men and women whine and squeal like infants. I've even considered doing a bit of live streaming myself but not really sure on what to do or say. Will be giving it a shot with the school autumn holidays coming up since I'll have some time off work. I just landed Alien: Isolation so might give the world a laugh by screaming and swearing profusely. If you fancy it, my twitch ID is "kokapetl1616".

So what about you guys? You into streaming either watching or playing yourself?

Gamers Zone / Super Smash Bros.
« on: October 18, 2014, 07:51:27 AM »
Despite all the online snaps of people wrecking their 3DS circle pads and fearing mine might end up the same way, I've been loving Smash Bros for 3DS! :D I've just unlocked the final hidden character so I've got the full roster now. I won't lie, given the length and depth of Brawl's Subspace Emissary, the single player modes seem a little streamlined. Enjoyable very much so, but a little cut back. There is always just so much to Smash Bros and they don't spare the little details. Great fun and even better with the idea of having one of my favourite Ninty titles on the go. Win-win as far as I can see.  :DD

Don't hate me guys but I'm on the hype band wagon at the moment.

I'm playing Destiny (flinches and ducks)

If nothing else, it's a very competent shooter with some firm mechanics at its core. As for the MMO parts, they are a bit loose fitting and not that enthralling I'll admit. Don't ask me what the story is about because I don't have a clue. Whatever half-hashed plot that fits around the dry concept of "shoot that thing in the face to win" that goes with most shooters these days is pretty much in play here. Still, it's a good game to play with friends. If anyone's on, feel free to look me up.
