Title: A change in Google
Post by: pokeplayer984 on September 10, 2010, 02:19:28 PM
If anyone hasn't noticed, there has been a change in the coding for how Google now works.  Basically, they've upgraded it to the point where it is almost automatic as you type in your search choice.

For instance,

Start by typing in the search box... say....

Video Games

Once you hit the "V" key, you'll see what I mean by this.

I decided to look up the Google Blog (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/) on this, and it turns out that it's about a new feature called "Google Instant" where basically, it changes as you type.

Basically, they've changed it from an HTML to an AJAX application.  It looks interesting as a set-up and maybe I'll try that one day, but I will admit that I still have a lot to learn before attempting something like that.

In any case, I feel this is a good step forward for Google.  Heck, if it wasn't already cemented as the #1 Search Engine, this will pretty much seal the deal and everyone else who has been doing this will pretty much have to fight over the #2 spot now.  Seriously, Google has officially won.

That's my opinion at least.

What do you guys think?  Let's talk about this, shall we?

See ya later! :)

It's an awful feature and I've turned it off.  It's like someone trying to complete your sentences for you while you're trying to speak and getting it all wrong.  Not to mention on a 1024x768 screen resolution only 3 results really show.  It's very distracting and is bad for longtail keyphrases (which generally hurts small businesses and fansites and helps big corporations).  I can't wait till they trash this.

I'm not very fond of the feature myself. I liked it better how it was before. It's really annoying when I'm typing and I see all these results show up automatically. I like typing in my search phrase, clicking enter, and then seeing the results.

I've got used to this, it's okay for me. Sometimes I save time because I don't have to type in things completely, because Google auto-complete my writing.

For example, if you search for "waluigif", then you'll see "waluigifan" in the list. :D

Noticed it, and am indifferent to the feature.  I usually type the whole thing in regardless of seeing the searches as I type.
