I don't know what a WEP key is.

Your WEP key belongs to your wireless router, not your laptop.  If you lost it just push the reset button on the router and it should just clear the password.

I had to look it up on Wikipedia. Acording to that they're fairly easy to hack....depending on which version you have. It might be an option worth considering.

EDIT: Or you could just take the experts advice. I advise that more.

Well, most of the time you can just press the reset button on the back of your router, however some manufacturers do something different like make you hold it down for so many seconds or make you punch in the code in a certain sequence.  You'll have to check with your manufacturer if just pressing the reset button doesn't work.

Once I had the same problem. Luckily a cryptic piece of paper emerged from the chaos on the top of my desk on which I had written down the WEP key.

Unplugging the router and disconnecting it from the wall should reset it as well and give you a new key or something when it finds the net service again.

That doesn't work with mine Petrie.  I have to periodically reset my router by unplugging it and plugging it back in again and it never clears my WEP key.  It's good to do that once every 2 weeks or so because it refreshes the connection, but it certainly wouldn't clear the WEP key.  Then every time the electricity went out, you'd have to set up your router again.

Great, how did you manage that?
