Basically, I can get something like this for the LBT Server (though I'd most likely put this on my personal server instead):

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...8011&CatId=4274

I can actually get it for about $300.  Then the 2tb hard drives are $150 each for a total of $1,200 for the hard drives.  I'd end up with 16tb for only $1,500.  That's actually a pretty sweet deal, especially since they'd be 7200rpm drives with 32mb caches and they'd be connected via eSata 3gb/s.  I'd probably stripe 'em seeing as I wouldn't want to mirror the sucker.  Then it'd be $1,500 for 8tb....a significant increase in price to about 18.2 cents per gigabyte.

When my financial situation gets a little better (yeah, it's in the dumps again), I might consider investing in something like this.  Heck, by then 2tb hard drives will probably be like $80 each. :lol

Then I would wait. ;)  16tb is excessive.  Even for you.

I've had 4tb in a single computer before (spanned across 4 hard drives).  I could eat up 16tb pretty easily to be honest.  I wouldn't want to, but I don't think I'd be able to resist.  I know I have at least 70tb of data right now spanned across many computers.  Another 16tb would be very welcome.  I recently slimmed down my data by about 20tb.  Unfortunately, my cousin took up over 8tb of that because he was having some issues and needed to transfer some files to avoid losing them.

I'm gonna look back at this thread in 5 years and laugh.  By then, they'll have 2tb flash drives. :lol

Can I inquire as to what you save that takes 16tb of space?  Your entire DVD collection or something?

lol, I would love something as big as that, as all I have is 40GB worth, and that's not that big considering the fact that I have games and what not XD

It seems a bit like the technology allowing for ever more space is currently running ahead of the media's thirst for space. I wonder which kind of developments are going to reduce the terabit to the level of perception currently held by the gigabit or megabit.

Oh I've got more stuff than you can even imagine.  There's movies and such yes, but that only accounts for maybe a dozen terabytes or so.  Just my programs folder (it just includes the install exe's, NOT the fully installed programs) is several terabytes.  Just random stuff I download occupies the rest of it.  I've got books like you wouldn't believe, all in PDF format.  I've got crap like a HUGE collection of Javascript scripts which is nearly a gig (it's in webpage format with images too).  Several backups of TheLandBeforeTime.org (which is now about 6gb) and other large websites account for a good chunk of space too.

Honestly, I really don't know where all the space goes.  When I format my master computer (which has 750gb on the C drive), I fill it in less than a month.  I just look at my C drive one day and I'm like "WTF, where did all my space go?."  I know I should be a little more organized and careful, but when you get as many files as I do, you tend to lean towards laziness. :p
