When I was still new to this community, I was reluctant to check out the TV series, even after seeing all of the sequels. I finally did start watching it back in November and December 2019, although I only made it eight episodes in before I stopped. That was around the time Disney+ debuted, and with it came The Mandalorian. And soon after that came the final season of The Clone Wars. Being the huge Star Wars nut that I am, you can imagine that I got distracted with that instead for a while.

But now I am resuming with the LBT TV series, and this time I would like to make it through all the episodes.

Anyway, today I watched "The Canyon of Shiny Stones". This is one of the episodes I had seen before, but I decided I'd take another look at it. I remember being rather "eh" about it the first time I saw it, but I was a bit surprised to find that it grew on me this time. Certainly not a flawless episode, but all in all it was a pretty fun adventure.

When they play hide and seek, I get a kick out of Ruby counting up with, "One treestar, two treestars, three treestars, etc." Too bad my friends and I never used that as kids. I also notice how Ducky points out that Spike is eating their hiding spot "again."

There's a lot of really good musical cues when the Gang first journeys to the canyon and then when they're wandering through it. Although it's a bit of a shame that so far I've been enjoying the background score more than most of the songs.

The ending kinda annoyed me though. The grown-ups seemed too easygoing and relaxed about the whole thing, considering that their kids nearly died to lava. They should have shown some more initial alarm to see the kids in peril like that. And then it seemed too predictable to me that Cera would end up losing the second shiny stone as well. I understand that it was to establish the message of family being more important (which is a good message), but it still bugged me.

I wasn't crazy about the pilot episode, "The Cave of Many Voices", but this one I enjoyed quite a bit more. It's pretty ridiculous that something as mundane as Chomper's tooth falling out ends up leading the Gang on such a dangerous adventure, but something about that premise actually works really well. There is something darkly comical about the fact that the whole tooth thing almost gets the characters killed twice.

I did notice there was this stock scare chord sound effect that they used three times in the episode (at 13:12, 14:04, and 17:00) which I got a kick out of.

As for the songs, "I Feel So Happy" was pretty corny, but I did like "Fix Your Tooth".

It is said that, if a T-Rex didn't have that tail of their's, they would lose their balance and be unable to do certain tasks that require the legs.  In a strange way, I think Chomper knows this about his species, and understands how important his tail is.

They could have had a maybe funny scene if Tria had found out what Topsy said to Chomper.  Maybe that happened a bit after the episode ended.

Topps's sense of humor was interesting.  But I'm sure most of us have had an uncle or grandfather with a similar sense of humor.

Although I haven't finished watching the TV series yet, I completely agree. Chomper's parents need to make a comeback.

I don't really have any special or unique LBT merchandise, but I wanted to post in here regardless, as I think this would be a good time to share the story of how I wound up with four DVD copies of the first film.

Many years ago, my family owned the original Land Before Time on VHS, although it's long gone now. I'm guessing it was either sold at a garage sale, donated/sold to a video store or something, or else it just got lost during my family's move to a different home, but I don't know for sure what happened to it. I did also wonder if it might still be tucked away in a dusty old storage box at my step-mother's house. I was certainly hoping my old childhood VHS would still be there, even if I doubted it. But, alas, my step-mother checked for me and she didn't find it.

Either way, when I watched the film for the first time as an adult, I checked out a DVD copy from my local library. Of course, then I fell in love with the film and wanted to own it again, so I purchased a copy from Amazon soon after. However, once I got my copy, I ended up being a bit disappointed with it. For it turned out that, unlike the one I'd rented from the library, this was not the "Anniversary Edition" release from 2003 celebrating the movie's 15th anniversary. Rather, my copy was a more recent DVD release from 2015.



Since I realized that I wanted the Anniversary Edition, I ordered another DVD.




But it ended up being the one that I wanted.


Now up to this point, it was only the first film that I owned and had watched recently. Soon after, however, is when I joined this very forum, and not long after that is when I decided I should see the rest of the films as well. So I ordered the 14-film DVD set (which also includes its own copy of the 2015 LBT 1 DVD).



It's a pretty nice set. Although I did find it a little strange that the cover features Etta, of all characters, alongside the rest of the main cast. Flathead770 joked that it makes her look like the 8th main character. Even Ruby's inclusion I thought was a bit odd, as this set doesn't include any of the TV episodes, and her only other appearance is a relatively small one in the 14th film. I guess they were just featured because #14 is still the newest film, and because Ruby is officially part of the Gang now, even if that was only really established in the TV series.

Alas, a few months ago, my Secret of Saurus Rock/Stone of Cold Fire DVD got chipped after I used it inside my computer, and now it doesn't work properly.




So then I ordered another 14-film set as a replacement.


In hindsight, I realize that I could've just ordered an individual Saurus Rock/Cold Fire double feature DVD and it would've been cheaper. Although on the other hand, now I have extra DVDs of the other films as well in case another one of my copies gets damaged. Indeed, I haven't yet unwrapped my newer 14-film DVD set and am currently keeping it in reserve.

But anyway, so why did I want to own the Anniversary Edition specifically? It's because of a little moment here on the DVD menu (which isn't on the 2015 DVD).



On the 'Bonus Materials' section, it plays the music from when Littlefoot and Ducky first meet each other (at 0:50 of "Foraging For Food" on the OST), one of my favourite cues in the film. Combined with the image, it was very emotional for me. There's been multiple occasions when I would open up this part of the menu just to listen to the music and see the dinosaurs embracing each other.

If you watch the film proper, it automatically takes you to this submenu after the credits. I distinctly remember one time in particular after I had just watched the film, whereupon I was already feeling emotional, and then coming to the submenu, which only brought on even more feels.

Yesterday and the day before, I rewatched the Back to the Future trilogy. These movies still hold up.

Well that's why I think it would be nice if there were a few different time options that we could vote on. ImpracticalDino mentioned to me that the current time would be too early for him as well.
