General Land Before Time / Locations in LBT movies

Can we count places named by the Narrator (or "Spokes Dinosaur," according to the credits)?
Where is the narrator credited as "Spokes Dinosaur"? Every LBT move I have seen credits him as "narrator". I have up to LBT 9 (LBT 7 is missing)

General Land Before Time / which character weighs more?
« on: January 25, 2008, 01:59:49 PM »
I think it is Spike at the present. He just looks so much more heavily built than the others and the fact that he can basically obliterate food just reinforces that.

As adults, Littlefoot will definately outweigh all the others.

As for lightest, Petrie and then Ducky.

I'd would say Littlefoot's grandfather for president.

General Land Before Time / Locations in LBT movies
« on: January 24, 2008, 12:40:41 AM »
As you know I'm in the process of writing an LBT "war fanfic" (DO NOT provide your opinion of it on this thread!! I know Malte disapproves of the idea, but I'm going to write it anyway. :p ) and I need to know the locations mentioned by name in the series.

I know of:

The Great Valley
The Mysterious Beyond
The Big Water
"Chomper's Island" (Where Chomper and his family live)
Saurus Rock
Two Boulder Pass

I know there's more, but I can't think of them. Can anyone help?

General Land Before Time / Visiting the Great Valley
« on: January 17, 2008, 09:14:43 PM »
Quote from: Kor,Jan 17 2008 on  05:14 PM
Instead of just visiting the great valley how about living in both. The idea may sound odd but I got it yesterday.  Living in this world like normal.  When you go to sleep you wake up in the great valley in human or dino form, have a usual day.  When you go to sleep there you wake up in this world and only an average sleep period has passed, regardless of how much has passed while you were in the great valley.  And after a normal day you awaken in the great valley again.  Could be interesting, living in 2 worlds.

I wonder if you'd remember the other life well, only some stuff here and there, or would it seem more like a recurring dream to you with only the current life seeming real, when both are.
Hmm. That's bizarre but REALLY interesting.

I'd rather just be able to fly over it and visit it as a "spirit" (inhabitants do not know I exist, I cannot interact with them, I cannot be injured, I cannot injure the inhabitants etc.)

I have one question: what would be the purpose of supernatural activity in the Land Before Time?
To be honest, I don't know. Perhaps to add an air of mystery?

I'm with lbt/cty lover,

In fanfics the existence of the supernatural varies depending on the writers and their ideas.

In the canon... this is debatable but I'd say there are some supernatural occurances (Cloud formation in 1st movie, Rainbow Faces in LBT 7).

1988 Theatrical Release / You Just Burst My (Happy) Bubble Don! :-(
« on: January 12, 2008, 06:16:52 PM »
Darn, those missing scenes REALLY tantalized me.

It is VERY likely the scenes are permanently lost.

As landbeforetimelover said, if they are on a computer it would take an obscene amount of money to restore them:

Calculation for cost to recover deleted scenes:

Note: numbers are from landbeforetimelover's post

19 scenes x $60-$100 per hour, wages for computer technician x 500 hours =
$570,000 - $950,000

Admittedly, this is just a guess but with costs over half a million dollars Universal will NEVER restore the deleted scenes.

But at that time (1988) it is more likely the movie was hand drawn and computers were not used or sparingly used. Unless the scenes are are found somewhere in the Universal archives it is very likely that no one will ever see the scenes again.

There is much more that can be shown:

1. Explain how Chomper got off of the island and met Ruby, as well as explain the whole Redclaw story.

2. Resolve exactly how Chomper (and Ruby?) will find a way to live together with the plant-eaters, or else show that doing so is impossible.

3. If they are going to end the series, advance time and show the characters in a more adult form, and end the series on the note it began; with the children of the original characters hatching.

4. Remember the "Great Longneck Test"? Littlefoot proved that he could be a good leader in that thing... Perhaps he ought to be made leader of a herd. Maybe he'll merge his herd with Ali's... and have to fight Rhett (Ret?) to get at her.

5. If enough time passes, Pterano can return.
Exactly.

But I have a bizzare feeling that the LBT sequels will propel it back into the limelight or drag it to a terrible end.

I REFUSE an LBT ending akin to the ending of the Sopranos!! :x

LBT and Kingdom Hearts

I have actually seen this.

Now for some bad crossovers:

Halo x LBT:
Master Chief travels back in time due to a malfunctioning portal and he meets the LBT gang and he discovers that the Covenant are already here and they recruited the sharpteeth on their side. Will the Great Valley Dinosaurs and Master Chief be able to defeat the Covenant and the sharpteeth?

Red Alert 2 x LBT:
I don't even KNOW how this will work out. Might have something to do with the Time Machine in RA2: Yuri's Revenge

Tiberian Sun x LBT:
I don't even KNOW how this will work out.

OT: I once saw a Halo-Odyssey crossover. THAT is bizzare.

General Land Before Time / Favorite Sharptooth in the series?
« on: January 12, 2008, 02:20:59 PM »
I can't vote because I like Chomper just as a character.

I absolutely loved The Sharptooth (original LBT) because he was the most hardcore of the sharpteeth and the fact that he was almost invincible.

General Land Before Time / Guest Character Reappearances
« on: January 12, 2008, 02:10:33 PM »
I would REALLY want Chomper to reappear. He seems so integral to the series

Ozzie and Strut. I do want them to reappear. They were hilarious (especially Strut.)

I wouldn't mind if Ithcy and Dil were to reappear (As long as they don't sing "Who Needs You" again. That song was REALLY an "ouch" moment for me. :x)

Sierra/Rinkus. Hmm. This is tough. As much as I think Sierra is a sadistic jerk, he and Rinkus do have great potential to be the next villians.

The Sharptooth from the 1st LBT. I do want him to reappear, but he's dead (or is he?). This idea is explored in a fanfic that I'm currently in the planning stage of.

I can't think of any characters that do not deserve to reappear.

General Land Before Time / Should the songs be removed?

Who Needs You was the most cringe worthy moment I've had in LBT thus so far.
Yeah. That was an "ouch" moment for me.

To be honest, I'm actually somewhat in the middle, they are an integral part of the LBT series and I do like some of them, but they are occasionally painful and I would enjoy the movies more if there were someway to bypass the songs.

Some of the songs I liked:

"If We Hold On Together" (LBT) is stunningly beautiful, with a distinct sad edge to it.

The song "Always There" (LBT 5) has a distinctly haunting but at the same time beautiful feel to it.

"Friends for Dinner" (LBT 5) plain cracked me up. The part about Chomper not eating Cera "because she's too tough" made me laugh when I 1st saw it and still makes me laugh 7 years later

Should the songs be removed or should they be kept as a integral part of the LBT sequels?

I personally think that the songs should go. I find them somewhat annoying.

1988 Theatrical Release / You will never believe this.
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:17:31 PM »
It's so blatently bad it's hilarious.

I think it might be a joke (a crude one, but a joke none the less).

But seriously, who brings religion into a children's movie?

1988 Theatrical Release / Littlefoot Getting rid of Sharptooth
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:13:40 PM »
I'm fairly sure it was self-defense.

I can't quite see Littlefoot risking Ducky's death for satisfaction.

Why would a Great Valley "purged" of leafeaters be a heaven for Sharpteeth? There would be nothing to eat for them!

I should have clarified that the sharpteeth kept the plant eaters only as food not as fellow inhabitants.

Quote
I really don't see dinosaurs thinking in such extremely human terms as payment, vendetta, purge etc

I can see the these particular dinosaurs thinking in such human terms. The scene in LBT II where Ozzie takes Littlefoot and threatens to throw him off a cliff seems to be driven by solely by revenge.
