My and my family went to a yard sale yesterday and I found The Pebble and the Penguin. I have yet to watch as I have been busy with my fan art and fanfictions.

One thing I'm wondering is, why wasn't there ever plans for a sequel, well, there is one spoof of the movie, Happy Feet.

Personally I think that it was good enough to have atleast one sequel (seen it on youtube, that's why I bought it).

Dose anyone here know how much money it made? No word on wikipedia or IMDB.

Other than Ice Age, okay scratch that, it is my currenty fave movie.

My fave character is Marina (as many of you can tell) and my favorite songs are Now and Forver and Marina's version of Sometimes I Wonder.

Far as I know, Happy Feet wasn't a spoof of Pebble and the Penguin. It didn't even have the same plot.

As for how much it made, I'm not sure, but it obviously didn't earn enough movie to warrant a sequel.

Actually if you compare several plot-points in the movies, they appear to be very similar.

Hubie = Mumble, they are both shy at first and both a have a love interest

Marina = Gloria, they both are both beautiful penguins, they are both good singers and they both have a shy love interest.

HubiexMarina = MumblexGloria = They are both seperated from each other for most of the movies.

Mumble and Hubie are both chased by a leopard seal and killer whales.

Both Mumble and Hubie are captured by humans to be taken to a zoo

Both movies are comedy romance and musicials

Neither Mumble nor Hubie can sing

The endings are very similar too, both Main characters get girls in the end and have a child(ren)

The endings both left an opening for a sequel (Happy Feet : Yes  :DD  , Pebble : No :neutral )

They both begin with all the penguins singing and dancing, just the orders are reversed in Happy Feet it was girls first, in pebble it was the boys first

Both movies feature singing and dancing penguins

Found it!

The Pebble and the Penguin (1995)

Budget = $28,000,000

Gross revenue = $3,983,912

Here's the Land Before Time (1988)

Budget = $12,300,000

Gross revenue = $84,460,846

It has a higher budge than first LBT movie (same director). Ice Age (2002) was originally supposed to be directed by Don Bluth, so it proably would've been less than the Pebble and the Penguin.

The chances of a sequel being made when you made that much of a loss on the first film are rather low.

Okay, but if it had a higher budget than the first land before time, why didn't anyone even consider a sequel. Each The Land Before Time movie has made less than the first, but I bet if they made thirteen Pebble and the Penguin movies, each movie would make more money than the last and probaly be liked better. Just like the ice age movies, it might've gone the same way if considered multiple sequels.

Well, if I was a film producer, I would prefer films that are cheap to make yet still sell well. That way you make more money.

Wait, is the budget how much it costs to make or how much it made? I never look this stuff on wikipedia or anywhere else.

I also thought that budget and gross are same thing.

Nope.
Budget=money it took to make film
Gross=money that the film made in cinemas etc.

I have seen pebble and the penguin, although I'll admit it's been a long time since I saw it.  Personally, I didn't really like it that much (aside from Rocco) I was more into the TLK.   However, it was a film that my sister liked...

Happy Feet is nothing like Pebble and the Penguin... That's just offensive :p

No sequel because they apparently lost a lot of money with creating that movie.

pebble and the Penguin had a budget of $28 million and made less than 4 million.  usually they don't make sequels to movies that flop..

Well, as good as it was, I'm surprised it made less than 4 million. I was really hoping for a sequel, but it seems very doubtful. :cry

it has been 15 years since they made Pebble. they are not going to make a sequel, unless its a crappy direct to video or DVd affair.

PATP was just not a unique film and not very interesting...that's why it flopped.  Don Bluth didn't even want his name attached to it if that gives you an idea of what the film became when it was finally shown.

I showed my brother the opening titles of the movie, and here's his comment: "2 minutes in and I can already tell it's crap".

Never judge a movie just by a trailer. Just watch it, I'm serious you'll like. Even people who comment on the videos do.

Happy Feet is to Pebble and the Penguin as what Disney's Dinosaur is to Land Before Time; a realistically computer animated, more adult version of the previous movie.

That's what I said, I even consider Happy Feet a spoof of Pebble and the Penguin.

I'm sure that's against the rules there, scrattelover.

I haven't see this movie myself, but if I've never heard of it then I'm sure there's a reason
