Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone.

What is your guys' favourite LBT character? And, do any of you have a favourite sequel? I'm curious which one people consider the best.

@Flathead770: Oooh!! Is that in Drumheller? I've been there before, although it was years ago.

I'm gonna have to echo what the previous few people said and go with Littlefoot watching his mother die. As I mentioned in my introduction post in the Welcome Center, I cried when I saw that part again for the first time in over 15 years.

Other honourable mentions:
- Pretty much everything that follows the aforementioned scene. When that little pterosaur tries to cheer Littlefoot up by giving him the cherry, and keeps nudging it closer and closer. Littlefoot just stares on lifelessly and doesn't even react, and then the pterosaur's eager smile falls away. And then Littlefoot seeing what he thinks is his mother's shadow on the side of the cliff. Even the scene with Rooter, even though Rooter is trying to comfort Littlefoot, is still kinda sad in its own way. "The great circle of life has begun. But see, not all of us arrive together at the end."

- Littlefoot and Cera's fight. Quoting WeirdRaptor from page 2, who described it best: "The scene when Cera insults Littlefoot's mother... when you saw the rage Cera's hurtful words envoked in Littlefoot. One part of you knows that Littlefoot is better than that while the other half is egging him on to rip her head off. Very emotional."

- After the other kids rescue Cera from the predators and prank her with the tar, and then she leaves them in tears. Granted, I do feel Cera kinda got what she deserved. Still, she's just been through a traumatizing experience, and subsequently gets laughed at and utterly humiliated by her friends, and it's enough to make a normally tough and headstrong dinosaur like her completely break down. It's the moment when she seems to realize how awful she's been, and despite all her bravado, she's forced to come to terms with the fact that Littlefoot is a far better leader than her.

1988 Theatrical Release / Re: Outcut land before time scenes

It's too bad that so much footage got left out. Although that's probably pretty common for films to have a lot of raw footage that later gets removed. Still, some of the cut parts would've benefitted the film, I think, like the full version of the Sharptooth chase, and the travel montage in the middle. Conversely, there are some things I think the final version did better.

The most glaring omission is probably Littlefoot finding the Great Valley on his own after the group splits up... but I actually think the version in the final cut works a little better. It just feels more narratively and emotionally satisfying to me to have Littlefoot seeing his mother in the clouds, and then finding the Great Valley, right at the very end with his friends after Sharptooth has been vanquished. Discovering the Great Valley earlier in the film might've dampened some of the tension.

Granted, the original ending gives more context as to why Littlefoot decides to go back for his friends. But even there, the fact that in the final version, he doesn't find the Great Valley and yet he still goes back for his friends anyway, it makes him into an even more heroic character.

I also agree with what Sovereign said on the previous page, that the original hugging scene wasn't as effective (it worked much better as the film's closing shot, imo), and some of the original dialogue wasn't as polished.

I would've enjoyed seeing the oasis scene, but I can also see why maybe they didn't want to make the themes of racism/species-ism too heavy-handed.

Overall, it doesn't seem to me like anything truly essential was missing from the story for the most part. Regardless, though, I would love to see the uncut version as much as any LBT fan, and it saddens me to think that the extra footage might be lost forever. Oh well. I'm grateful that we have the online script, at least, which gives us a pretty good idea of what the uncut version would've been like.

There's something mysterious and hypnotically alluring about those cels of Littlefoot in the waterfall. That's one of the missing scenes I'd like to see the most.

Oh, I can definitely believe the sequels are better than people say they are. That in itself isn't why I'm apprehensive. It's more that (from what I've heard) they have a more light-hearted tone. Not a bad thing in itself. But one of the things I enjoyed most about the original is how it's a children's film that legitimately dark and sombre in places. It's a unique balance that you don't see too often.

That, and the fact that they're musicals. I personally have never been the biggest fan of musicals. It seemed like a strange decision to me to add musical numbers when the original didn't have them at all.

And more generally, the original film was such a magical, touching, 'lighting in a bottle' experience for me, I'm just skeptical that any of the other films could fully replicate all those feels for me.

BUT, on the other hand, I loved the characters so much that I wanted to be able to spend more time with them, so I probably will watch more of the series at some point.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to my stay.

As for the sequels, I can remember little snippets from a few of them. But, as with the original film (before I rewatched it), I haven't seen any of them since I was a kid. In particular, I know I've seen The Great Valley Adventure and The Secret of Saurus Rock before, and possibly a couple others. It'd be interesting to watch them again now, all these years later. I'll admit I'm a bit apprehensive about it, but kinda curious as well. I'll probably check out films #2-4, at least.

So with that said, it limits my options of favourite character. But I'd probably have to go with Littlefoot. He's such a great, loveable protagonist who you root for all the way. It really feels like you're on this journey with him. Second favourite is probably Cera. I can see why people don't like her, but she's a great foil to Littlefoot, and she has a meaningful character arc. I've always had a soft spot for the "jerk who slowly reforms" archetype.

Hey there. My name's Ian. I'm a 29-year-old dude who resides in Alberta, Canada.  :Mo

I can remember seeing the original film as a kid. My family used to have it on VHS. But then I didn't see it again for such a long time. It often lingered on the back on my mind and I kept meaning to rewatch it, but I just never got around to it...

Until December of 2018, when I finally rented it from my local library and watched it for the first time as an adult, over 15 years later. It'd been long enough that I'd forgotten large chunks of the film. And... dang! I also forgot just how good it was. Immediately I fell in love with it. Such a wonderful story. I'm so happy I re-discovered it. I don't cry often at movies, but I legitimately teared up when Littlefoot's mother died.

And all this eventually brought me here, as I wanted to meet and socialize with other LBT fans.
