Just to point out, I'm not agreeing with any sort of system which requires you to comment or review a set number of stories to add a review to another.  This is just...nuts.  If I follow a story, like what I'm reading, I might review that story - or I may not.  Not everyone writes reviews.  If I start another story, don't enjoy it, I may choose not to review it and move on to another story.  Happens all the time around the world.  Why are we trying to reinvent the wheel here?

My take:

1.) You vote for what you want...whether you've left comments or not.  It should not have to be a requirement that you've actively reviewed a story to be able to vote for it.  (I've gotten tons of awesome music off of amazon but I'm not writing reviews for every single thing I liked!)

2.) If you don't get a vote...well....tough.  I've posted stuff here before that the view count says people have looked at the thread, but I sure don't have that many comments.  The ones who want to, will say something.  No comments doesn't necessarily mean its bad. ;)  Some people don't get that.

1988 Theatrical Release / Went The Wrong Way?
« on: August 25, 2011, 12:29:00 PM »
^ You could make the argument, that to go "past the mountains that burn" implies you know they are there.  We have no clue how far either group went their separate ways but to go past, you need to go by, so maybe Cera's way would've gotten them there too.  Those cut scenes sure muddied up that line.

I wonder who voiced Rowlf for that segment.  Rowlf was one of Henson's characters as well besides Kermit the Frog, or Ernie from Sesame Street.

The Fridge / Gang Of Five Chat Room
« on: August 06, 2011, 11:24:27 AM »
Peeking at this chatroom thing, I don't suspect you'll get any admins or GOF staff member to join in on it for one reason--you can impersonate anyone.  I have no social media accounts, therefore if I chose to, I could say my username is Malte and pretend to be him (or someone could pretend to be me).  Granted, I doubt anyone here is that shrewd.  However, there's no way to prevent this from happening.  Therefore I think if you want staff to participate in any of this stuff, it'll have to be done through Windows Live (which we all have) and you know you're talking to. ;)

My two cents on the whole thing.

^ Funny you say that, Pterano...my account is pretty old too...six years and about four months.  They say they've removed restrictions on all free users.

I don't see how anyone can offer unlimited storage, but I logged in today to check on a avatar for another forum and photobucket says I now have unlimited storage for free because I'm a fanatic of photobucket.

Huh?

Since when was I a power user?

But anyhow....I can't be the only one...how many here have this new "unlimited" account?

The Fridge / How often do you go to the movie theaters?
« on: May 23, 2011, 03:09:44 PM »
Once at year at most...I'm not a big theater person, and the cost isn't worth my time...about $10 just for the ticket.  Already saw my one movie for the year...POTC 4 on opening day. :D

Most clients at hotels use it for email and contact stuff, not streaming films so I wouldn't expect a hotel to provide a killer connection.

For those who seem to gripe about 5 mbps download speeds and 500kbps upload speeds, realize not everyone lives in an area with more than one provider, if they can even get good service at all.

Computer and Electronics / USB 3.0
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:58:15 AM »
Hi all.  I'm sharing this now, because I have equipment available that takes advantage of the latest usb specifications.  My laptop has usb 3.0 ports, and I recently bought a 3.0 external harddrive for taking to school and back when teaching.

Speeds are at least doubled easily, maybe tripled.  I've seen "up to 10x better" advertised, but that's not true for what I bought.  If the harddrive or object is powered by a/c current and not only the usb port, then maybe you can obtain those speeds.  The harddrive because its portable, only needs usb power, and I'm sure that slows it down.  Its still way faster than my usb 2.0 drives that plug in.

Is the new tech worth it?  If you constantly move GB of data, then yes, its worth it.  For the average user, not so much.  USB 2.0 is plenty fast for many things.  The only thing I believe usb 3.0 might be better at that usb 2.0 can't handle is super high definition videos at 1080p.  I've tried some 1080p videos on usb 2.0 and my new 3.0 drive and I see no difference whatsoever.  Playing through PotPlayer x64 build.

So that's the scoop on the latest stuff out there.  :exactly
