The Gang of Five
The forum will have some maintenance done in the next couple of months. We have also made a decision concerning AI art in the art section.

Please see this post for more details.

Make sure you get your stuff off of the old forum!

Just an update to all members:

If you haven't done so already, go and grab those PMs, pictures or whatever you wanted to save from the old forum on zetaboards while you still can.  Betas are coming out of the tapatalk forums (Fiver's Honeycomb is already in beta) and if something goes massively wrong with the transfer you may lose important stuff you one day wish you hadn't lost.  I have no idea when the GOF will be transferred except that it will be VERY soon if the emails are any indication.

This is probably your last call as I can't guarantee what will / will not happen once that transfer is made and you can't get to zetaboards anymore.

Fiver's Honeycomb apparently got Tapatalked recently, and I can only assume that the other boards, including GoF, will follow in short order. If you've missed all of the other warnings up to this point or put it off, I thought it'd be appropriate to give you a final opportunity. We all knew the conversion was inevitable, but now it is imminent. If there is anything you have on the old board that didn't make it here, such as but not limited to PMs or avatars, that you want to be able to guarantee is properly saved, today is the day to collect it.

Ok. I just re-downloaded all my PMs from the old board (I lost a lot of stuff recently to some computer trouble, and that included my PMs from the old forum)

Already saved what I was willing to save weeks ago. Though considering that we're still seeing old members suddenly return and only now find out about this big move, I think we've probably reached a point where we can no longer just hope that everyone who's interested in returning has already returned.

I remember a while ago that one of the admins (I think it was Malte) once sent emails to every single registered member that had zero posts, in an effort to either encourage them to return or simply delete those worthless accounts to free up a few names for future members. Would it be possible to send a mass email to all registered members who have not yet logged in since the big move, reminding them to at least save their old PMs? At the very least, these people should be informed that they still have a chance to save part of their personal internet history before it's gone forever.

That is a good idea. Then again, we don't know that PMs won't transfer to Tapatalk, especially given that they did transfer to the Zetaboards forum from the Invisionfree forum. But on the flip side, we also don't know that they will transfer, especially given that it's looking like they're just going to purge our board and replace it with the one Path Light started.

We have already sent out mass emails, but one more might be a good idea as time is running out for the old forum before it converts over to TapaTalk. I will discuss the matter with the other admins.

Go ahead and check out my fanfictions, The Seven Hunters, Songs of the Hunters, and Menders Tale.

What’s going to remain when the old board gets TapaTalked? Will there still be a forum there that nobody’s using? Will the old URLs still take people to a readable thread? (I’m asking because I want to know if I need to update all the urls on the various Darwin’s Soldiers websites, it’s a huge undertaking and i’d Rather leave them linking to outdated-but-readable threads if possible)

I'm no expert when it comes to forum sites, but I've read the initial conversation thread and ehhhhhhhhhh. :sducky

It boggles me that a company can screw up the site preview with a similarly named site, which probably means they don't give a crap and are mass-transferring the databases via an single SQL command or something w/o the slightest thought of compatibility.

So short answer, and my personal hunch is no, especially since the domain name will probably switch anyway regardless of how well everything is moved.
Would it be possible for swimmers and flyers to get more love around here? Both figuratively… and literally.

Well, we actually went through two conversions (one was from Invisionfree to Zetaboards, then when Zetaboards announced that they were moving to Tapatalk, we switched to being self-hosted), and links to the Invisionfree forum do actually redirect to the Zetaboards forum. However, it's looking like the switch to Tapatalk likely won't be as seamless as the switch to Zetaboards was, so I'd say that maybe stuff will redirect, but DEFINITELY don't count on it.
