The Fridge / My Horse Riding Accident
« on: October 06, 2013, 08:28:07 PM »
Yikes!  :o Well, I'm glad you had a helmet on then, but hope you recover from the injuries you did get.

One of the girls I went to middle school with had a horse riding accident; somehow the horse rolled over her legs and all she had to show for it was a giant bruise that took months to heal!  So minor injuries from traumatic incidents like this isn't too unheard of.

1988 Theatrical Release / Remaking the deleted scenes as sketch?

I didn't know exactly where to write this, but yesterday I got The Land Before Time Anniversary Edition and others were saying that Sharptooth scenes were further edited, but mine is exactly the same as my 1989 cardboard case VHS version. I got kind of confused by this.
Yeah, as I mentioned in another topic, I found out that there isn't any difference between the Anniversary Edition DVD and the 1989 VHS.  :cry I don't know if it was already brought up here, but you can look through the sticky-ed thread titled "Outcut land before time scenes" if you want to know more about what may have been cut from the movie.

I hope the work on your scenes goes well.  :)

Thank you!  :smile That means a lot to me.

This looks awesome! Being able to sketch human beings is a gift I personally don't have dino_laugh.gif
Thanks! A lot of people say that they can't draw people, but it's not that hard. It just takes some practice, is all.

I just watched that movie!! Dino_grins.gif
Very nice, you've captured the design of Disney females, I can see. Pardon my nitpick, She has a sort of Ariel-essence, while also distinctly being Eilonwy.
Did you do this all in one sitting? Cuz if you did, I am even more jealous, now Dino_grins.gif
Heh, yeah, most Disney ladies tend to look similar to each other. She does look like Ariel a bit (I think it's because of the big eyes), but in a few scenes with Ariel in Little Mermaid she ends up looking like Eilonwy!   Full circle!  :lol

It's hard to remember since it was so long ago, but I think I may have done this all at once, at least the base drawing. When I'm in a really good mood I can just whip things out like that *snap sound effect*, but some days it takes longer. Like I said before I didn't use reference when I was drawing the pose, basic proportions and outfit, but I think I did go back and add something. Maybe her hair-band-thing and to check how the neckline on her dress is suppose to look.

Quote
That is an excellent drawing. in-yes.gif She does bare a slight resemblance to Alice, as you mentioned, but I think that is mainly due to the generalized proportions that Disney gives to many of its female characters and not due to any flaw in your technique.
Thank you! Alice, Ariel, and pretty much any other female Disney does has giant eyes and the same face proportions. Except maybe Snow White and Pocahontas. And Pixar's Merida.

LBT Fanart / DarkWolf's Fanart Thread

I agree with everyone else here, Littlefoot's expression is particularly well done! This scene is one of my favorites. I especially like how you can see the brushstrokes in the background.

Wonder what Rango said to get himself into such a predicament this time.  :DD
Nice pose on Rango there. Is Chip a good guy or a bad guy? Should I be concerned?  ;)

Visual Art / Other Fanart by Ren

I've finally decided to make a topic for any non-LBT fanart that I do.

Here's the first entry (it may be kinda big).

As I promised babidikrakenguard, here is one of the only fan drawings that I did of Disney's The Black Cauldron. It is of Princess Eilonwy and her magic bauble. The date is not a mistake; I really did sketch this out that long ago, I just now decided to finish it. I sort of had the end credits of the movie on my mind when I decided to put it on faux parchment.
She ended up looking a lot like Alice from Disney's Alice in Wonderland, but that was unintentional. I didn't use any reference.

Enjoy!  :^.^:

General Land Before Time / LBT Merchandise That You Own
« on: October 02, 2013, 09:28:34 PM »
As of right now I have:

The films 1-8 on VHS in clamshell cases
Two copies of the original film in cardboard slipcovers
Two copies of the original film on DVD (one came in a three-pack with An American Tail and Balto)
A Cera fast food toy from 1997

And most recently, while I was at a thrift store finding another original release VHS, I just happened to find a Petrie plush!  :smile Set me back about 50 cents.

This is just a LBT merchandise sighting, but a few years ago when I was visiting a family member at the hospital, one of the nurses came into the room, and guess what she was wearing? Land Before Time scrubs!  :wow

Oh, okay. I was just bringing it up in case it hadn't already been thought of.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll be able to get through it Jrd.  :yes

1988 Theatrical Release / Reused Animation
« on: October 02, 2013, 08:38:19 PM »
As I was on the so-far fruitless quest to find cutscenes in the original film, I noticed a couple more instances of reused animation:

3. The shot of Ducky's father turning while eating before Ducky hatches is the same as at the end where the gang finds the Great Valley.

4. A similar scene, where Littlefoot's grandfather (or other longneck?) is eating at the beginning, shows up at the end right before the credits.

Computer and Electronics / MP3 Player Questions
« on: September 30, 2013, 09:48:35 PM »
Just wanted to pop in and say thanks again to all responses.  :) The Sony Walkman sounds like the one that I want to get, but I have to prioritize. There are many other things that I need to save my money for (paying bills, etc.) before I get a new player, but at least I know which one I want now.

This is a little late, but is your dentist absolutely sure that he can't fill the cavity? Because otherwise, if your wisdom tooth wasn't causing you any problems, it doesn't necessarily have to come out (at least that's what my dentist told me).

I had one of mine removed last year, but only because it was causing me all sorts of grief by rubbing against the side of my mouth.  <_< They only gave me local anesthetic and I was awake the whole time. It wasn't near as bad as when I had four pulled when I was a kid. It really almost just popped out.

It was sore afterwords for a while, but it was manageable pain.

1988 Theatrical Release / This is, frankly, quite ridiculous . . .
« on: September 30, 2013, 09:00:19 PM »
Alright, so I spent the first half of today watching the DVD, then the VHS from '89 (taking notes), then going back to the DVD and skipping directly to the scenes.

There are no differences.  :cry

The only things I wrote down in my notes were small scenes where I couldn't really remember them being in the DVD, but upon watching the DVD again I confirmed that they were in both the DVD and VHS. Such as when Littlefoot, Cera, and Sharptooth all fall off the cliff, I could have sworn that the scenes were a bit longer in the VHS, but I don't think they are after going back to the DVD.

When sharptooth jumps on LF's mom's back, it isn't in shadow.
Unfortunately I have to say that the attack is seen in shadow in both the DVD and VHS. However, you all may be forgetting that in both releases, there is a very brief shot of Sharptooth landing on LF's mother's back and getting ready to bite, right before the shadow shot. But everything else is the same. No berry scene, no mirrored shots, and Sharptooth's death is the same length.

Sorry guys.  :( But FYI; if you want to check for yourselves and aren't sure which VHS to get, look at the barcode on the side of the case. The UPC is 047897808647 (Hope that's okay to share).

1988 Theatrical Release / This is, frankly, quite ridiculous . . .
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:14:53 PM »
Recently I rescued a 1989 cardboard slipcase VHS tape of the original out of a box from the library where I work. The cardboard is rather beat up, and I was afraid that it would just be thrown away. What I want to do is to first watch the DVD version, then watch the VHS version, to see if there are any differences.

But before everyone gets excited about the possibilities, I feel that it should be said that all of the 1989 release tapes I've seen have a runtime of 1 hour 9 minutes, which is the same as the 69 minute runtime on the DVDs. So there really might not be anything different.  :neutral
What I think people should watch out for is smaller edits, like longer transitions between scenes. Those would have been more plausibly cut out in later releases. I don't mean to be a killjoy, but everyone I've seen in other threads get their hopes up only to be disappointed.

I do still hope that something will be found.

Hello, welcome back, and nice to meet you!  :wave From what I've seen of your art I like, so I would also like to see your portfolio once you get it ready.
I hope you can get a job in animation. Most places only want skills in CGI now. Unless you know of a place that still really wants hand-drawn (hopefully)?

Trust me, you don't want to see it. It was the first time I drew him, and it shows.  :lol Though I do have a sketch of Eilonwy that's still decent. Maybe I'll upload that sometime.

Your Turbo headshots look very nice and on-model. Thing is, Turbo just looks creepy to me. :confused But your pictures aren't the cause of that.

You could make a fangame with your sprites.  :angel

Computer and Electronics / MP3 Player Questions
« on: September 15, 2013, 12:44:52 PM »
It doesn't have to be an apple product. To be honest, this ipod is the only apple thing I've had. I also have been getting sick of using itunes.

Well, it's definitely not the headphones, so I guess I will have to get a new one. The warranty has long since passed. I'm just so naive about other mp3 players that I don't know of any others that would be as good or better than the one I have now. The stores around me don't have anything but ipods, so I guess I'll have to look online.

Thanks for the responses. Are there any other pitfalls in mp3 player choosing that I should avoid?

Computer and Electronics / MP3 Player Questions
« on: September 11, 2013, 08:11:24 PM »
I have some questions that I'd like to ask concerning my mp3 player, to see if anyone here has any answers or advice.

First off, I'd like to know how long the lifespan is of an ipod. I've had my 5th generation ipod for 7 years now, with no major problems (apart from one song not playing properly <_< ) until a few months ago.

The second question concerns that problem. Around May I had noticed that the sound was only coming out of one side of my headphones. At first I thought that I just needed new ones, so I replaced them. However the problem was still there. By manipulating the headphone jack I am sometimes able to hear out of both sides again, but I have to hold it tightly and sit very still or the problem comes back.

I will admit that it is entirely my fault that this happened.  :oops I tend to obsessively overdo things, and that includes making sure plugs and jacks are firmly attached, and I am sure that I pushed the jack in too hard.  :slap . So I guess I am asking if this can be fixed at all, or should I get a new mp3 player?
