Visual Art / The Kraken's Gallery!

I love Gurgi and the little Horned King! I've not seen art of them at all (apart from one doodle I did a long time ago that will never see the light of day).

General Land Before Time / The Evolution of LBT Animation

You can break animation changes into groups:

1 - stands alone as the only one by Bluth and co.

2-4 - same style as 1 with Grosvenor directing

5-6 - animation through a different group of people; its a bit sloppy

7 - bright, bright, colors! >.<

8-13 - computer animation and shadow effects are added to the films

This is a very good breakdown, Petrie.  :yes The only thing that I would contest is that, to me at least, the animation style in 7 is not very different from 8-13. The only thing that changed significantly was the inking and painting style.
Come to think of it, any criticisms that I've heard about the animation in 7 are actually criticisms of the coloring, which I am still certain stem from it being the first of the movies to use digital coloring.

To comment on the backgrounds of the later sequels; while they have detail, they seem too sterile and artificial to me. But I think that way about most CG-enhanced backgrounds.

Silver Screen / What are you watching?
« on: July 14, 2013, 08:56:19 PM »
Yesterday I had a movie watching marathon:

Mulan
Tarzan
Balto

One after the other. I hadn't done that in a long time.
Today I watched The Road to El Dorado. I forgot how much I liked this one.

The Fridge / Mobile/Cell Phones
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:19:11 PM »
I only really have a cellphone so my parents (and boss) can check up on me. The only things I use it for are to text my parents, take quick snapshots of things, and as a clock.  :p
My very first phone I got when I was around 16, and I used it until the hinge snapped and the top was dangling by a few wires.  :o

Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:59:31 PM »
I'm not sure why the gap between seasons is so big, but I hope they don't just have a snap back "it was all just a dream" thing.
I mean, I don't think that they would do that, but I don't know.

So, how 'bout them ponies?

I've seen all of the episodes so far, but I wouldn't call it one of my favorite shows ever. (Seriously guys, LBTDiclonius is right; we need to get back on topic. Please? )

The Welcome Center / Hi *waves*

Hello and welcome to the forums!  :wave I'm usually late in welcoming people, but I guess two days isn't too bad.

Do you focus just on LBT when you write fanfictions or are there other fandoms you're in?

LBT Fanart / LBT Fanart by Ren
« on: July 04, 2013, 05:29:48 PM »
I guess I just meant if there were any specific characters that anyone wanted to see, or certain situations or species, because I am running out of pictures that I have already been working on. But your suggestion is good, about having two or more characters and backgrounds.

Thanks for the comment, though!  :) Yeah, that part of his back is kinda ptthhht  :x His shoulder and upper arm are supposed to be in shadow, and I had erased the section of line. So I guess you could say that it is both intended and unintended. As in I intended to erase that line, but I didn't intend it to look that way.  :crazy

The more I look at that pic the more I remember that I didn't put in all the details that I was going to. I mean, I was going to put in a separate color on his 'undercarriage' and more lines, but I just felt bad that it took so long to do so I just finished it. I wish I had more confidence to do things without feeling this way.  :oops

1988 Theatrical Release / Why Littlefoot is a good leader
« on: July 04, 2013, 05:05:17 PM »
I don't have near as much to add, but I think that the main reason Littlefoot is the leader is because he is able to keep everyone together to work towards a goal. He is the most level headed of the group, and was the only one who knew that traveling together was the only way to make it to the Great Valley alive.

So maybe Littlefoot could recognize the strengths and weaknesses the others had, and knew that if they could work together they could survive.

Probably? I mean, if they (the studio) would make a high quality movie but with different characters in the same setting I would definitely watch it, but if it were not, then no.

The focus is always the characters rather than the setting or story
While LBT has put most of the focus on the characters I thought the setting was a main part of it too. At least with the original, but in most of the sequels as well.

1988 Theatrical Release / Spike---who voiced him?
« on: June 30, 2013, 05:15:33 PM »
I looked through the credits and they didn't mention anything, but I'm thinking that it might have been Will Ryan, who voiced Petrie. He's a versatile voice actor, and was already on the payroll, so they may have had him do it.

General Land Before Time / What's the first LBT movie you saw?
« on: June 30, 2013, 04:48:59 PM »
It was the original movie on VHS at my aunt and uncle's house. It must have been around 1991-92 because I was very young.

1988 Theatrical Release / Reused Animation

1. Sharptooth's animation is the same when he's a) scratching thorns out of his eyes and b) shaking Petrie and Ducky (Duckie?) off his face.

I did notice this one. It still holds up well though IMO.

How about Petrie when he is laughing at Cera after the tar monster scare, compared to when he laughs after he throws a rock at Sharptooth? I'm pretty sure that's the same animation, but I'd have to double check.

Edit: I just now checked, and no it is not.  :oops My mistake. I thought it was. Uh, then, kudos to the animation team for not reusing the animation there!  :lol See how I turned a negative into a positive there  :p .

Silver Screen / Captain Planet - The Movie
« on: June 29, 2013, 03:20:43 PM »
You are right, but those shows were at their peak when their movies were made, weren't they? From what I've seen shows that have just ended or have been ended for a while have live-action adaptations, for some reason.
I'll admit I'm mostly thinking about the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie (though from what I've heard, that movie had bad writing, so making it animated wouldn't have saved it).

Edit: That first sentence I wrote sounds kind of mean, but it was unintentional.  :oops I don't know how to reword it.

So, this is going to be a live-action movie?

 <_<

Why is it, that when someone adapts an animated show into a movie, they never make it an animated movie?

Character Discussion / LBT characters....at Hogwarts?????
« on: June 27, 2013, 11:10:57 PM »
I think that, due to the nature of the five main characters of LBT, they would all be in Gryffindor. They all have those qualities, but Littlefoot has them the most (and Ducky does too).

I just don't like how JK Rowling set up the houses of HP. All the main heroes are in Gryffindor, the villains in Slytherin, the smarty-pantses in Ravenclaw, and 'the other ones' in Hufflepuff. I mean, not one Slytherin stayed to fight in the final book?  :rolleyes

The Fridge / What Animals does everyone like?
« on: June 27, 2013, 10:50:29 PM »
My favorite animals include:

Cats - My pets, but especially Cheetahs, Lions, Cougars, Snow Leopards, and Pallas Cats.
Red foxes
Deer - White-tailed deer and Fallow deer.
Dinosaurs - Theropods of any kind, but I like pretty much all of them.
Seals and Sea Lions
Thylacines
Quaggas
Birds - Chickadees, Mourning Doves, Hawks, and Emus.

I tend to like any extinct animal, mostly because I want to know what happened to them, and also because you can't just walk outside and observe them anymore.  :(

I love the Worthless segment of The Brave Little Toaster. I can't believe they wanted to cut it (well, I guess I can believe that  <_< ).

Ohh, awesome use of color on that second pic!  :wow The colors remind me of Conte crayons. I would definitely call it a success!

I guess I have a little nitpick (no, really Ren? ); I think maybe Pterano's head should be colored too, at least his neck and lower jaw. But that's just a nitpick. I'm sure Pterano (the user) will love them!
