... and anonymity is a good thing to have on some sites... many sites, in fact. But on a forum like this... it may not be as good. Now, most of you probably know my first name is "Vincent", but most people recognize "Noname"... and that is the problem.

Even if it is possible to change it to another name ("Aristocles" being the preferred one), most of you still remember "Noname"... although my avatar would be the same...

I'm not sure what to think of this...

I have changed my MSN profile to "Noman/Aristocles", which is a transition from one name to the other...

I kinda understand what you mean.
But its  up to you, if you fell like changing it, do it.
Even though I would probably remenber you as "Noname" for a while, you choose that name at the beggining for anonymity, so its ok.

It's doable, I remember Petrie offered to change Vaan360's name. I think you should have it "Aristocles/Noname" for a while, and keep the avatar and everything the same, to give users some time to adjust to the new name. Then, after a few weeks or a month, you can get rid of "Noname".

Well, it was useful in its own places... not so useful here.

Oh yeah, you might want to put in your signature or member title that you used to be called Noname, so all the archived comments directed to or about Noname still make sense.

Oh, the sig and the avatar will not change, not for a long, long time... :)

As it is, "Noname/Aristocles" will remain on MSN for a week or two... as long as it takes for me to let all significant contacts know of the change. People who know me well on that site will also recognize my contact card pic, which will not change for a long while either.

So what's the call? If you're changing it, what do you want?  I think its better to cut the umbillical and go to whatever new name you want.  Put something in your sig that says 'aka Noname' or something.

The aka noname in your signature for a while sounds like a good idea.   A lot easier, perhaps, to change your signature after a while then asking Petrie to change your name again to remove the Noname part so just the new part of your name is left.   Up to you though.

You get one shot....it doesn't get changed again, so choose wisely.

Noname, if you want to change your username, go for it! :)

I actually thought of changing my username before, because after awhile, I didn't want to be called "Rat Lady" anymore, that's why I felt it as an opinion for people to call me by my first name. :) But I don't think I ever will want it to be changed. People are so used to calling me that anyway, so I don't think it would be a good idea if I wanted it changed.

Oh great... well. I'm going to do this. Since there is just "one shot" (not sure why), I will add an "also known as Aristocles" to my sig for a month or two... then, once I am reasonably certain that people will recognize the change, make the change to the name itself, and change the sig to "also known as Noname" and keep that new part of the sig for a long time.

Changing usernames time after time is confusing.  That's why its one and done.  I think your current move is the smartest.  People know who you are based on what is there now...I don't think changing it is the best move.  Amy has already stated why that's so.

I'll keep it the same until I am eventually known as Aristocles as well... that could be quite some time... If I change my avatar pic, it will be another picture of the Chi-Rho, or some variant thereof. I'm keeping it the same for now.

Do you think "Noname" was a good one? I chose it back when the sites I was one called for anonymity. Now, I usually register to sites as "Aristocles" or "Talos."

Makes no difference what your name becomes fella. You're still the same person behind it. We all know ya as Noname here. Personally, I don't think you should change it. That being said, I guess for different sites you can use another alias. I use 2 different ones but that depends on what I'm relating it to. Still, choice is yours at the end of the day...

Not on this site, no...  heh. What makes a person choose to name a dog after a greek man of bronze?
