1988 Theatrical Release / Uncut version
« on: July 27, 2011, 03:35:06 AM »
I am from Germany and this version is the full cut movie. That it is uncut is only a rumour, because someone has read that the playtime is 75 minutes.

And if you look into some other forums, even the Don Bluth animation forum, some people state that they own records of the 1995 airing from Finnland and it is also full cut. So this could also be a rumour.

The closeup in the footprint scene is only an greatly enlarged picture of the same we can see in the cut version.

For me the scene makes sense. Sharptooth comes from the left, also in the cut version, and they try to escape the path on the right side to reach Littlefoot's mother. And because they are not able to climb the hill they then took the other way through the thorns.

This scene is from the Search for the GV book, were you can also find some of the other pictures.

Edit: I just re-read your post Dilopho. If by shell you mean a clamshell case, that would be a later release. The original '89 release came in the cardboard cover.

I mean all these kinds.

@Almaron

You forgot this scene:

What is strange here?
The cut movie is 69 minutes long at that is what you can read on old VHS shells.

But Apple said that his version is from 1989 and it seems to be full cut and the same version that we know.

^ Those definitely won't be in there. They were the part of the scenes cut before theatrical release. I'm on the hunt for a VHS that includes certain scenes cut by Universal. Such as the Shaprtooth fight scene where Littlefoot's mother is bit and it's actually shown.
Cuts by Universal?
The fight scenes were the first scenes which were cut before release.

And to be honest if even the first VHS tapes are cut then I don't think that something uncut was released. The only thing that we can hope for is some kind of press release, because such a version could be the reason for the runtime difference in the previews.

Did you also look for the scene where they lure Spike with berries or if Littlefoot finds the GV before the fight with Sharptooth?

The reason for the dinosaurs of different periods in the first movie could be that Bluth and his team didn't know a lot about dinosaurs.  So they took the species which were the most known in the 80s: Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus (in those days Brontosaurus), T-Rex, a pterosaurian.
Only ducky as an hadrosaur gets out of line, maybe it was the only one that did fit in the role of the funny animal.

..., Cera & Spike were Native American ...
Hm, Cera a Native American whose family consists of racists? That is not common for such people. I think that was the way of thinking of white settlers/people from Europe.

In late Cretaceous there was no Pangaea, even Laurasia and Gondwana didn't exist anymore. And in reality even though there would have been migration between the connected landmasses a short while later there would had been visual differences in appearence.

Landscape wise, like I said, it is North America in the late Cretaceous. Lifeform wise it is a mixture between all mesozoic stages and landmasses(mostly NA). And if we took the Dimetrodon from LBT 1 we also have an animal from the Permian period. If we consider the current scientific level of knowledge there are also non existing creatures like featherless maniraptora or the Yellowbellies.

It is the western part of North America. Time-wise I would say end Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) although some species like Stegosaurs were extinct at this time.

I have read somewhere that they used two different background drawings in the scene. That should be the cause for this.

General Land Before Time / What are you watching? (LBT Edition)

There were some good episodes in the tv series at least, such as "The Brave Longneck Test",...

In my mind this episode is somehow nonsense.
He has to do three stupid tests to proove that he is able to lead an herd, although he has done much greater and dangerous deeds before. For example in the first movie he rescued his friends from lava and tar, led them to the valley, made a plan to kill the Sharptooth.

The same with LBT13 when he becomes some kind of smart ass when he tries to teach his wisdoms to the yellow dodos.

Having said that, watching the first movie on VHS. Creates some sentimental feelings.

Ceras trait in LBT to crush stones and other things with her horn is male mating behaviour. But the funny thing here is that she is a female dinosaur.

I just checked and my copy is from 1989. Sadly, it's the cut version.  :(
Is this a normal VHS release or the version you could get at Pizza Hut? In my opinion the only chance for an uncut VHS is, if the production was before the official theatrical screening, like the few books that contain the uncut story f.e. the Illustrated Story.

Are you sure? The cover in his thread about the disc looks like the old one from end of the 80s.
