Role Play Discussion / What do you want to see in an RP?
« on: March 09, 2010, 10:41:48 PM »
I wonder why such a thread was never created before. Anyway, this thread is for ideas for RPs that you would like to see, or for things in a role-playing game that you think would be a good idea.

It looks nothing like the "standard" awards here. Do I have permission to add it to my sig? I will resize it so that it doesn't take up much room.

Role Play Discussion / Character Deaths
« on: March 01, 2010, 03:56:16 AM »
This thread is to commemorate and remember any dead characters from the RP section, to recount their stories here, and to tell what the impact they had on the plot, on the RP, and on the other characters.

For example, my deceased character of the greatest importance was Vaeri, the lover of Adykon (the main character) and mother of Rhiga (the leading female in my RP.) Her death was sudden and swift, cut down by a magical bolt launched by Dememoras, the main enemy of the roleplaying game. Her passing was more than a tragedy, it made the struggle against Dememoras change from a fight based on justice to a conflict based in no small part on Adykon's personal desire to avenge his dead lover.

Role Play Discussion / Magic RP
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:51:07 PM »
This RP is going to let the character use magic, of any kind they like! As long as it isn't "godlike" or gives them power to raise the dead or break the fourth wall, it should be fine. I'm planning on having the players gather into a Circle of Mages and proceed to do whatever they wish to do from there. The only requirement is that the character be able to use some kind of magic. You can play as any species or race, or even make one up; your character need not be human, bipedal, or even sane! :lol

I won't be able to start this one until I actually have the time to do it. Give it a week or two.

If you are interested, just post a character or characters into this thread, with some basic description of them and what kind of magic they use. I'll add several as time permits.

I'll start a thread here for all other motivational posters, if anyone besides me wants to make any.  :D

Non-land before time posters are best here. Perfect for someone who has little time to make more serious art. I've got some of that in the works, too. A great red dragon, if you all want to know. XD

Role Play Discussion / RP by the Numbers
« on: January 22, 2010, 10:08:16 PM »
This kind of RP is one with at least one player, and a narrator.

The players choose their characters and agree on the setting with the narrator, who makes the opening post and when it is almost done, the closing post. They have total control over the plot except for specific junctures in the story. When these come up, the player writes "..." at the end of the post, and then, the narrator decides to do one of three things; either a number must be chosen, or the narrator gives a list of choices, or he gives a list of choices, one or more of which requires a number to be chosen.

Choosing a number from a range the narrator specifies will produce a result based on what the narrator knows, but the player does not. The narrator gets to choose what the roll is for, and which number, if the player goes above or below it, signifies success or failure. Specific numbers can also have specific significance, such as a number of how many of a certain item is left in a room, or how many items showed up.

Example:

Player: Adykon was walking along the road when an arrow came out of nowhere...

Narrator: Choose a number from 1-10 to dodge the arrow.

Now, let's say that the minimum number needed to dodge is 5. The narrator knows which number is needed, but the player does not. The player chooses a 6. This means that the arrow was dodged.

Narrator: Adykon dodges the arrow, turning to face the direction it came from.

Now, the player chooses what to do from here until the next plot juncture.

Player: Adykon went over to the Dracon and saw that it was...

In this case, the narrator will give a list of choices instead of a number pick.

Narrator: Choose from the following options:

-A male
-A female

Let's say the player chooses the second option.

Player: Adykon turned and saw a female huntress from a dracon tribe, one of the less developed among his kind. Adykon turned to meet her, but she was reluctant to speak with him...

Narrator: Choose from the following options:

-Leave her and walk away.
-Convince her the stay (number roll required)

Let's say that the player chooses the second option. The roll would occur after the player writes up to the ellipses ("...")

Player: Adykon approached the female and tried to convince her that he meant no harm to her...

Narrator: Choose from 1-10 to talk to the female

Player: 3

In this case, the number needed to convince her that he meant her no harm was no more than 5. A six would be a failure. 3 is a passing number.

Narrator: Adykon convinced the female that he wasn't going to hurt her, and he approached her.

And keep the process going from there.

Any questions? If it works, more will be added to the system over time.

The Written Word / A Perfect Day
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:18:42 PM »
The sun rose above the lair of the silver dragon Cilicia. Stretching her muscles, the mighty creature was as large as a small herd of elephants, despite being fresh into adulthood. She was the protector of this region, a place known as the valley of men. Not surprisingly, humans lived here in a series of mountain villages with a central town by the nearby seashore. Cilicia presided over shepherds, merchants, and farmers alike, keeping the region safe from orcs, trolls, and evil creatures who lived just beyond the mountains which surrounded the valley.

Getting up off of her bed of dry grass, Cilicia moved over to the mouth of her cave, taking in all that nice sunlight. It was truly a beautiful day. The sun was out, the air was crisp, and the sunbeams mingled with the cool air of her mountain home in such a way that she could feel their heat, yet still breathe in all that fresh mountain air that her species loved so very much. Truly, nothing would ruin her day, and this was a very special day, for once a month, Cilicia flew down into the valley to meet the humans, who all turned out for such an occasion.

Extending her massive wings, she took off, clearing her cave in just one swoop! Normally, she’d fly right to the village, but today, it was too nice to just head down there so soon. No, this was a morning that was meant to be enjoyed! Flying through the clear blue sky, there was hardly a cloud in sight. As she flew the ploughman stopped his work to gaze, and the shepherd leaned on his staff and watched her, astonished at the sight. They had seen her many times, and every time she continued to amaze them. It was as if she was dancing in the air.

Alas, all too soon, the time for fun came to and end, and as it turned to noon, Cilicia finally ceased her aerobatics and flew down to the town by the brilliant blue seashore, landing gracefully. The local baron and the other town officials ran out to meet her, as they did each month.

“Lady Cilicia, that was a fine show you put on. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Every time you do it, we here in Farport are all amazed, and each time you take to the sky is better than the-”

“Spare me the flattery, baron Dupont.” Cilicia’s voice was soft and gentle, yet revealed an inner strength, and at the moment, annoyance. Dupont was a good ruler, and a flatterer too. She knew that his praise for her was born as much out of a desire to get on her good side as it was from actual amazement. “Are there any cases to try?” she asked, getting down to business. “Yes, milady, we have three criminals this month. A pair of vandals and a thief.” Part of Cilicia’s tasks as protector of the valley was that she would judge criminals. The baron didn’t like having that position taken from him, but it was a condition of her protection. The townspeople lived with it.

Moving over to the stocks, a trio of alleged criminals were bound by the neck and hands to the clever wooden contraptions. All three of them were nervous at Cilicia’s approach. Beautiful and graceful though she was, the dragon had quite a way of laying down the law. “Which one is the thief?” Cilicia asked the baron, who turned pale at the query.

“T-t-he one farthest to the right.” he replied, knowing what would come next. He hated this part, almost as much as he hated-

ROOAAARR-CHOMP! AHHHGGHHH!!

The baron averted his eyes, as did the other townspeople gathered there. Cilicia had bitten the thief in half, and proceeded to noisy and sloppily eat him, only bothering to spit of the wooden stocks when she was done. “Let the other two go. They aren’t a threat to my hoard.”

ëB-but, Cilicia-”

“Lady Cilicia to you, baron!”

“Lady C-Cilicia, was that really necessary?”

“How many times have we been over this, DuPont?” Celicia said as she let out some of her freezing breath into the sky, sending a puff of cool mist up into the air. “Threats, even potential threats to my treasure hoard are not tolerated. Under any circumstances. And speaking of which…”

He had hoped every time that she would forget this part. Cilicia never did. Not once. The “surcharge” for her protection was nothing less than 20% of everything the town earned in each month, and as much food as she wanted from the surrounding shepherd and farmers, no questions asked. As usual, the tribute had been collected in the town square, under guard. The thief Cilicia just devoured had attempted to steal some of it, hoping to recover what he had given into it.

Looking over the treasure piled up, it wasn’t enough to even half fill a chest. “Dupont? Are you holding out on me? Remember the last time I caught you holding out on me?”

Dupont remembered all too well. “No! I swear. You know as well as I do that ships haven’t been coming here as often to resupply!” He was right. Farport derived much of its revenue by supply food, supplies, repairs, wood, and on occasion, sailors to passing ships. The valley of men was not right next to major trade routes, but it was close enough that a ship in need of repair or supply could easily make it there. Recently, a major war coupled with increased pirate activity seriously reduced the number of ships coming to Farport, and thus, there was less income for the town.

“I don’t like it when I get less in a month than I did in the previous one. You know that. If you cannot make up the money, I’ll have to take it from somewhere else.” Now her tone was ominous. The last time there had been this kind of a problem, she went door to door searching for supplies, not caring if she happened to smash the door or the house in the process. “I’ll let it slide this month, but if next month isn’t enough to make up for it-”

“It WILL be made up! I guarantee-”

“-with 20% interest.”

“… you’ll get your money.”

“See to it that I do.” Cilicia spoke, sweeping back into the sky with her mighty wings. Yes, it was a beautiful day alright. A day to remember… a day to remember how a female silver dragons showed up and demanded money from a town in order to keep her from taking it outright. They hadn’t asked for Cilicia or her “protection.” Dupont was capable of leading the forces of the valley against the orcs and others beyond the mountains, the humans didn’t need her. Dupont would have happily launched a revolution against her if his forces stood so much as half a chance of victory, but alas, this was certainly not the case.

On the way back to her cave, Cilicia had come across a flock of lost sheep. Their shepherd must have been quite worried about them. The silver dragon knew just what to do…

BURP!

She took a nap after eating them, lying on her back. Those were some good sheep, and they sure weren’t lost anymore. Stretching her legs, feet, and toes out and sighing, Cilicia’s eyes drooped shut. Nothing would ruin her-

Tweet! Tweet!

-a bird was singing. Off-tune. Fwoosh! A blast of her icy breathe put a stop to that. Now nature was in harmony again in her perfect, beautiful valley. If only the “perfection” would end, the people living there would be happy.

LBT Projects / Land Before Time Photomanipulations
« on: January 17, 2010, 05:59:52 AM »
I'm certain that something like this has been done before. I didn't place this in the "fanart" section because the base images used are not, strictly speaking, Land Before Time media. The drawings I add to this, however. Are. I don't know how many of these I can make, and unless I get my own photos or a copyright free/copyright usable with attribution image, I cannot post these on DA, per their policies. I can however, post them to photobucket and link them here! XD

Here is a pic of Chomper standing on some grass, from the bottom up. You can't see very much of him, save his legs and feet. Still, that was the effect I was going for. These are made using layers on paint.net.

Here's a ghostly image of Tria on the same spot

I've got a new story up! The first chapter of the gigantic 26 or so chapter story! The Tale of Blackclaw covers over 20 years of the life of the Sharptooth from the first movie, from his birth to his eventual death. The first 5000 or so words are up. This is gonna be big...  :DD

Please read and review!

Also, don't forget to read and review my older piece, still not made too long ago:

General Land Before Time / The Big Picture
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:45:32 PM »
What do you think the BIG picture of the movie series would be? This is a very sweeping question, I know. There's no right or wrong answer.

I believe that the first movie had a strong anti-racist theme, yet, the sequels failed to continue it well enough. Very few solutions are offered for what will happen when Chomper grows up, and if the series continued onto adulthood, we would probably see irreconcilable differences emerge, as opposed to bringing them all together in one happy valley.

General Land Before Time / Probable Explanations
« on: December 28, 2009, 06:50:50 PM »
There are more than a few. First, there is the issue of how Chomper got off that island, if and his parents did too. Presumably, because Ruby says that she told his parents that she'd take care of him, they got off the island too, or Ruby's family visited the island at one point.

Then, there is the matter of how Red Claw came to be such a menace. No explanations are given. And why Chomper's parents aren't with him.

There are many others, I am sure.
